Damian Wayne is the Robin of the Robins
Okay so we've all seen the, "Robin belongs to Bruce Wayne, but you Damian Wayne, shall be mind" in regards to Dick but idk I rlly feel like Damian is who all the Robin's live vicariously through. Like js hear me out
Dick Grayson: This one is self explanatory. Damian was LITERALLY his robin. I don't need to say more, but I will anyway. Dick loves that little guy so much, and he has so many thoughts about the Robin mantle being passed on to him. Dick knows Damian needed it, would be so much worse if he didn't have it. But he wishes Damian didn't need it to be fulfilled. He kind of understands how Bruce felt when he first made Dick, Robin.
Jason Todd: My personal (half the fandom accepts it) headcannon is that Jason and Damian both came from the league, so for Jason that's his first little brother (he met Dami before Tim). So while Jason is oh so very proud of his baby brother, he's also scared every night. Sometimes he paces around his apartment/safe house, damn near praying even though he hasn't believed in God for a long time, that Damian is safe. Another part of him though, the part that he shows to Damian, is how happy he is that Damian is 10x the Robin he was. Damian was properly trained before he became Robin, was taken under the wing of a former Robin and then was first out on the streets besides the first Robin. Jason loves seeing Damian on patrol, and just- having it together. He knows what he's doing. That's all Jason could ever ask for.
Tim Drake: Okay so this one is a teeny weeny bit more tricky, but I'll try. Tim is smart and intelligent because he had to be. He was smart before he was strong. Damian on the other hand, was born with a sword in his hand. He's very smart, yes, but it didn't come to him like it did for Tim. As for Tim, he had to train for every bit of strength he has. They're so different in that aspect (many others too) that it circles back into similarity. Another thing, is that a lot of people overlook the fact they both love(d) their parents. Tim loved Jack and Janet, and Damian loves Talia. But no one really sees the good in them. I don't know I feel like only Bruce would really get that Talia, Jack, and Janet had good in them. The rest of the family would hear "gone often," and "league" then make up their minds. Tim and Damian get it. They get each other. Then with Damian taking up the Robin mantle, Tim would be pissed, but then get it. He gets that Damian needs robin like he needed Robin. So he watches Damian swing from the rooftops, wearing red, green, and yellow, and he smiles. Smiles because Robin is in good hands.
Stephanie Brown: Before I explain, I'm like reaaaally confused on Steph and Tim's robin. I don't know if it was Tim than Steph than Tim, or Tim, Steph, Damian. (someone please explain it to me) But for either one, lets just say Steph was either not Robin yet and therefore didn't have any feels about it when Tim was Robin, or when Robin was given back to Tim, she was too jealous/busy doing her own thing. With Damian, the jealousy was back for only a second. But she's older, and more mature now. She gets why he's Robin. He's a damn good one, too. Whenever he does something crazy (in a good way), she sometimes thinks she never could have done that when she was Robin. As Spoiler? Yes. But as Robin? No. So I feel like she's crazy happy for Damian that he gets to be Robin.
Overall, Damian is not JUST Dick's Robin. He's an amalgamation of every Robin who came before him, and he's entirely himself at the same time. He's a way for all of the batkids to take Robin back from Bruce. Robin was never Bruce's, no matter how much he thought it to be. When Damian is out as Robin, he's not fighting crime for Batman. He's a symbol of hope. Of joy, and wit, and laughter, and resilience. And he's that for the people of Gotham, but also to his older brothers and sister. To carry on the legacy that they left behind for him.

reverse robins au has so much wasted potential
i've only ever read one good reverse robins au before and now i need more. but like, the whole idea is such an interesting way to explore the similarities between each of the batkids and how the differences will change their story.
imagine bruce wayne falling in love with talia al ghul in the league of assassins as a 17 yo and when he returns to gotham he tries never to think abt it again cause he (even in canon) imagined a future with talia but he cant have that now. he's heartbroken.
and then when he turns 25 he finds this 8 yo lil assassin on his doorstep who is claiming to be his son. like????? so he tries his best improve himself so that he can take care of damian and set up a good example for him. he tries to make damian believe that killing is wrong by making him his sidekick and letting him help out.
since damian is the first batkid here and not dick, he'll probably get a very dark and bat-related edgy name instead of robin. maybe smth like shadow or nameless or smth.
but then ofc damian wants to reinvent himself so after graduating he moves away from bruce to bludhaven. he and jon then together become nightwing and flamebird.
then 12 yo tim comes along. he sees how sloppy and rough batman has gotten with his work without a partner to not only balance the workload but also try to be better for. plus, he's being very angsty with the whole fighting with damian thing, and he's questioning whether or not he did a good job in raising damian.
so when tim fails to convince damian to be robin again, he knocks on the door of wayne manor. alfred answers the door and when he asks who tim is, tim jst hands him a very neat, times new roman size 12 font, 20 page document, saying "pls let mr wayne know that this is my formal application for the position of his partner"
obvi tim and damian dont get along, since even tho im sure tim would come up with a different name since he's only the second batkid and its rlly up to him whether or not he wants to make the title a legacy, damian still feels like he's being replaced. but ofc like the bats they are, they repress this and dont end up talking abt it. they like to banter in fun and theyre a good team in a fight but most of teh time theyre jst awkward around each other which physically pains tim cause like, yknow, hero worship.
then a few montsh after tim becomes robin, he meets cass who was directly found by alfred. he took her home, fed her some food and offered her to stay at wayne manor upon realizing that shes homeless. adn welp, after finding out abt her past...the rest is history. she becomes the first batgirl.
the really good reverse robin au that i read and mentioned earlier is the Reverse Robin AU by yello_cabellaro its super duper good and you should read it. but what i rally loved abt it is the idea that tim and cass are not only siblings, but twins. them sharing a birthday because cass doesnt know how old she is???? OMFG THATS SO SWEET. and thats how cass becomes 13 yo jst like tim when they met
then tim and cass encounter up and coming 14 yo vigilante stephenie brown aka spoiler. those 3 become a trio, and they make batman and his sidekick the batfam. now its not jst the Bat, its a Bat.
(tim and steph date briefly but then break up after a while because they feel like theyre better off as friends)
but then one day, when tim's 15, jack and janet drake dont return home one day. they were going to stay for the entirety of christmas break so they shouldve come straight home that day after work at drake industries. but they didnt. tim tracks them down to...a warehouse. he think its jst another ransom kidnapping so he jst suits up as robin and heads out. plus him and bruce had been at odds at the time abt whether or not he should reveal his identity to young justice so he didnt tell batman.
but cass ends up catching him while he's sneaking out and steph finds them on their way so teh three of them arrive at teh warehouse. its the joker and harley quinn. he's able to capture tim and steph but not cass. she tries to take him and his henchmen down alone at first but after realizing that she cant win she escapes and tells bruce.
by the time bruce arrives, janet drake is dead, jack drake is in a coma, tim is crippled and at 16 yo, stephanie brown is dead. at the funeral, seeing how depressed bruce is and the tears in tim and cass's eyes, 21 yo damian decides to move back to the manor.
(he kills the joker before he does tho, because his moral compass is more on the wonder woman side than the batman side now taht he's is own hero)
bruce ends up adopting tim and cass too and tim officially becomes oracle. bruce tries to discourage cass from the vigilante life but she's her father's daughter so it doesnt work. she works as bruce's go-to sidekick for a bit.
bruce encounters 12 yo jason todd trying to steal his tires a few months after steph's death, so ofc he adopts him. (he swears he didnt mean to, it jst happened!) he soon becomes batman's sidekick after receiving tim's seal of approval.
meanwhile, this incident confirms the identities of the batfam for the joker so Batman: Endgame takes place. enter 16 yo Duke Thomas and his We Are Robin movement. about a year after steph's death, duke becomes the signal and is adopted by bruce. (bruce wont admit it but sometimes duke reminds him of steph)
3 years after steph's death, a new crime lord called red hood enters the gotham game. they say she has blonde, almost white hair. she wears a red hoodie and voice modulator at all times, and strangely enough, has a bat on her chest. she sets up base in crime alley and starts monopolizing gang operations.
cass is the one to find out. she almost cant believe it at first. the red hood has been around for only a few weeks, but she's already been driving all the bats crazy with how much information she has on them and how crazy good she is at what she does. still, cass hadn't seen her in person before. now...now she does, and all the pieces click.
the red hood moves jst like steph. jst like her best friend. cass nearly cant even recognize her. her hair is a blonde that's closer to white, her blue eyes glow green with anger, there are scars marking her freckles, and she's using league of assassins moves. but that's...that's still steph.
cass runs away from a fight for the first time in her life, because she cant fight steph. she cant hurt her.
when she tells everyone, there is confusion, disbelief and....mixed emotions. they dont know whether to be happy because steph's alive or whether to be sad that she's a criminal. she's angry at them, they can tell taht much. but they still dont know which approach to take.
turns out steph does it for them. because tim is kidnapped from the clocktower that night. cass tells everyone that she and only she will go after him, because what steph needs isnt strangers or authority figures. she needs her friends. her robin and batgirl.
steph does her dramatic confrontation and nukes bludhaven. she's angry at them, all of them, for letting kid vigilantes run around again after what happened to her.
but well, plot happens. shes still wary of the batfam but she cooperates. she mourns the person she was and its hard for her but tim and cass always force themselves into her apartment on special ocassions. they always spend their bday at her place.
then bruce wayne and his family attend haley's circus on the night the flying graysons die. dick grayson is taken in by bruce, but then bruce gets lost in the time stream - oh wait, no, he 'dies'.
Damian becomes batman even tho he doesnt want to. he takes care of dick the way his father once took care of him. he tries his best.
tim doesnt believe that bruce is dead so he packs his crutches and a few other essentails and goes globetrotting. its hard with his disability, but hes tim drake.
then bruce is back, and even tho dick has been strictly forbidden from crime-fighting, he made them pinky promise that he can join once he's a teenager. (damian is hoping he'll forget abt theat) (spoiler (ha!) alert, dick will never forget. once a robin, always a robin.)
and thats what they are. a family. alfred is proud.
(age wise order and superhero identities)
alfred - agent A
bruce - batman
damian - nightwing
steph - red hood
tim - oracle
cass - batgirl
duke - the signal
jason - bluelark or smth probably
dick - (not rn but eventually) robin
p.s. dick has made a new friend in class. her name is barbara gordon. she's the GCPD commissioner's daughter and her favorite class in school is computer science.

Chapter Sixty-Two: From One Circus to Another
On the night of Martha’s gala, Alfred helped her into her costume as he kissed her neck. “Daddy, please,” Martha laughed. Alfred smiled as he let go of her waist. “I love you…”
“I love you. Thomas and Miss Cassandra offered to go out first. Master Bruce and Miss Talia will be out in a few minutes… Master Dick is nearly ready to perform, and Miss Leda agreed to go out with Master Harvey and Miss Gilda,” Alfred stated.
Martha wrung her hands. “I think I need to see Dick,” Martha whispered, “Just for a second.”
Alfred nodded and let Martha creep down the hall to Dick’s room, and she knocked on his door. “Who is it?” Dick asked.
“It’s Mom,” Martha whispered through the door, and Dick let her in.
“Merdre, that’s what we say before the show. Merdre, Mom,” Dick explained to her.
Martha pulled him into her arms and held him close. “Merdre, Robin. Let me hold you just a little while,” Martha whispered. Dick smiled as he wrapped his arms around her.
**
Bruce squeezed Talia’s hand as he watched Dick hold Martha by her ankles upside down. “Your mother and brother are quite skilled,” Talia whispered as she watched Dick let go of one of her legs.
“I’m gonna pass out,” Bruce whispered.
“They’ve done this a million times,” Thomas replied with confidence, “We should throw one of these every year. I think this is the best thing I’ve ever seen.”
A little boy pushed between Talia and Bruce to get a closer look. “Timothy? Timothy, come here, honey,” a woman whispered. Talia tapped the little boy’s shoulder.
“I think your mother is looking for you,” Talia smiled as she crouched and pointed toward the boys’ mom. Talia let the woman through and pulled Bruce around to her other side.
“Timothy, don’t scare me like that,” the woman mumbled.
“I can’t see,” Timothy whispered.
The woman picked her son up and kissed his cheek. “Thank you, Miss…”
“Talia,” Talia whispered as she shook the woman’s free hand.
“Janet Drake. I’m in the medical supply business,” Janet whispered, “My husband’s somewhere around here, eating up all the little hors d’oeuvres… What do you do?”
“Eco-friendly tech,” Talia replied, “Perhaps we can work together in the future.”
Bruce tensed and squeezed Talia’s hand again. “Jeez Louise,” Bruce whispered.
Talia chuckled and kissed Bruce’s knuckles. “Thank goodness…”
“Dick is an adept acrobat as well as a gymnast. You should have more faith in him. I knew he’d never drop your mother,” Talia smiled as she applauded their performance.
Harvey let one of the little boys down from his shoulders before returning to Gilda. “It’s cool that Martha arranged for all of Dick’s circus buddies to perform at this,” Harvey smiled.
The strong man walked over to Dick and picked him up like a small child. “You’ve gotten so big,” the strong man whispered as he embraced Dick.
“Hi, Samson. I missed you so much,” Dick laughed, “This is my mom, Martha.”
“Martha, you’ve got a job with us if you ever get bored of living in a castle,” Samson teased, “You’re just as pretty as he says. Thanks for giving us a chance to see this little fella fly once more.”
“Samson,” Dick laughed. Bruce swooped in and picked Martha up.
“You two almost gave me a heart attack,” Bruce laughed as he spun his mother around. “You looked fantastic up there.”
“And what am I? Chopped liver?” Dick joked. Bruce messed up Dick’s hair.
“You were okay,” Bruce teased. “Has anybody seen Cassie?”
“The little one with the two little buns in her hair? She’s with Leslie and Carla,” Samson replied, “She’s one heck of a knife thrower. And here we thought you were going to live a regular life. It’s good to know you’ve got your own little circus right here in Gotham.”
**
Dick sat with Leah and some of his old friends from Haly’s Circus when a girl approached. “Mind if I sit here?” she questioned before Dick turned around and leaped out of his seat to hug her, almost knocking her to the ground.
Leah’s jaw jutted out to the side as she set her fork down. “Lilja, I can’t believe you’re here,” Dick smiled, “Oh, you’ve got to meet my girlfriend. Lilja, this is Leah. Leah, this is Lilja. We grew up together.” Leah stood up and shook her hand.
Lilja was a few inches taller than Dick, with long reddish curls down her back, and big brown eyes. And Leah quickly took note that they looked nothing alike. “You were the contortionist up there. Weren’t you?” Leah asked. “The Raggedy Ann doll.” She said it like an insult, and Dick nudged her.
“Lilja’s family used to do this cool Russian doll act before her older sister got married,” Dick noted as they sat down.
“Dick wrote me letters about you. You’re even prettier than he said… And I love your hair,” Lilja smiled.
“Thanks… And you’re very pretty, too. Dick didn’t say he had such beautiful friends,” Leah replied as she picked over her ravioli. “How’s the lasagna?”
“It’s really good,” Lilja replied, “Do you want some?” Lilja pushed her plate forward.
“Oh, no thank you,” Leah smiled.
Dick gave an all-teeth smile to Lilja before taking Leah aside. “What the heck, Leah? That’s my friend,” Dick whispered.
“You didn’t greet her like a friend. You greeted her like—.”
“I only get to see her once a year. These people are my first family, and I’m not gonna let anyone mistreat them. Especially not some girl that’s just my girlfriend,” Dick whispered.
“ Just? ” Leah scoffed.
“Yeah. And if you keep it up, you’re about to be an ex,” Dick whispered through his teeth.
**
Cassandra finished getting her face painted by the clowns. Thomas, Martha, and Alfred sat in their seats, staring into space out of pure exhaustion. Gilda and Harvey slumped over opposite sides of the table, holding hands, while Talia and Bruce danced around the ballroom. “How many cupcakes did Cassie have?” Thomas asked as he watched Cassandra spin around.
“Nine,” Alfred mumbled.
“We’re never going to get her to bed tonight,” Martha replied, “Who let her have nine cupcakes?”
“Miss Cassandra, could you please stop spinning, dearie?” Alfred gently requested. Thomas chuckled.
“Okay… I’ll get her. Cassie, baby, let’s go get ready for bed,” Martha called. Cassandra ran to her and let Martha carry her upstairs.
“Mommy, can you read me a book tonight?” Cassandra asked as she pinched Martha’s cheeks. “Please.”
“Sure, baby. Whatever you want,” Martha replied, “Jeez Louise, Cassie, we’re gonna have to use a whole entire bottle of makeup remover on your little face.”
“Mommy, can I give you a kiss?” Cassandra asked.
“I would love that so much,” Martha whispered. Cassandra showered Martha in kisses, reducing Martha to a giggling mess. “You had so much sugar tonight.”
“Can I have more cupcakes tomorrow?” Cassandra questioned.
Martha kissed Cassandra’s temple. “Mommy loves you so so much, but I think I have to cut you off. That’s too many cupcakes for anyone, and I think you’ve got twelve layers of glitter and clown makeup and—. Is that cream cheese? ” Martha giggled.

Thinking about a reverse robins au where...
Talia leaves Damian, age 8, with Bruce due to infighting in the League of Assassins. Damian is Batman's Shadow until he and Bruce have a falling out over Bruce refusing to admit the Teen Titans to the League. Damian, age 18, takes on the name Nightwing and moves to New York to lead the Titans with Jon.
When Arthur Brown is killed, Crystal overdoses and Stephanie, age 12, becomes Spoiler to avenge her parents. Tim, age 11, sees her while stalking Batman and provides her with pictures and intel under the alias Shutter. Bruce catches them one night, and Tim blackmails him into mentoring them.
When Bruce realizes Stephanie is living on the street, he decides to adopt her. Jack and Janet are their typical absentee selves, so Tim's adoption remains unofficial. Damian, age 19, resents Tim and Stephanie so much that he refuses to let them train with the Titans.
The Joker kidnaps Tim, age 14, while he's on patrol and turns him into Joker Jr. Steph, age 15, goes solo to save him and Joker makes Tim beat her with a crowbar, then locks them in the warehouse with a bomb. Stephanie dies trying to save Tim, then is resurrected and taken by Talia al Ghul, who wants to use her as leverage to win Bruce and Damian back.
Tim, now paralyzed, becomes the Oracle, saying that there's no Shutter without Spoiler. Unbeknownst to anyone, he gets to work trying to clone Stephanie.
Damian, age 23, blames himself for Stephanie's death and moves back to Gotham. While hunting the Joker, Nightwing runs into Jason, age 13, who's working for Two Face. He finds out that Jason is trying to support his family - Catherine is still battling her drug addiction and Willis was left wheelchair-bound after working for Two-Face. When Damian looks at Jason, he sees another desperate teenager that he failed, and he's determined not to make the same mistakes again. He takes Jason under his wing, training (and paying) him to fight against crime rather than for it. Jason takes on the mantle of Michael (he is going to be the guardian angel of Crime Alley. He's going to defend them from every threat.)
Tim, age 15, finds out about Jason and comes as close to a villain origin story as he gets. He thinks that Damian is trying to replace Steph, and accuses him of grooming another martyr to die for Gotham. When Damian won't back down, Tim insists on being included in Jason's training and swears to pull the plug the *second* he thinks Damian is putting Jason in undue danger. Training Jason together gives Damian and Tim the common goal they need to build a functional relationship for the first time.
Stephanie, age 19, comes back to Gotham as the Red Hood to kill the Joker, only to find that he's been missing for years. Still, she's plenty annoyed with the new street kid who's stolen her place. (Damian wouldn't even LOOK at her, but he'll take this stupid kid to a baseball game? With Tim?)
She and Batman dance their dance for a few months, then she finds out that Jason isn't an orphan. That Bruce paid for rehab so his mom could get clean, then found his dad a job so they could move somewhere safe. And it's just... Where was Bruce before? Where was he when her mom overdosed? When her dad was killed? Where was he when Tim was taken and twisted, when he was beating her to death for that fucking clown, when she tried to shield him from the blast even as he was strangling her? Where was Bruce then?
Red Hood kidnaps Catherine and lures Jason, age 16, to the warehouse where the Joker killed her. She reveals his secret identity to Catherine, then beats the brakes off of him.(In another world, Sheila Haywood smoked a cigarette while Jason was beaten. In this one, Catherine Todd begs for his life.) There's a bomb because there always is. Because there has to be.
Batman isn't too late. He saves Jason and Catherine, but Hood gets away. Catherine begs Jason to hang up his suit, but Willis stops her. He tells Jason that he's proud of him, and glad that he's chosen a better path than Willis had.
Nightwing, age 26, hunts down the Red Hood while Oracle, age 18, puts together the pieces of her identity. Nightwing catches up to Hood her in one of her safe houses and has a very dramatic monologue, as a treat. ("The last person who left my siblings trapped with a bomb thought it was funny, too. But he wasn't laughing when I was done with him. I wonder if you'll have that same look on your face when I kill you.") He nearly kills her, but is stopped by Oracle.
Tim drags Stephanie back home kicking and screaming. After months of therapy, healing, and screaming at Bruce, she allows herself to be brought back into the fold. She and Jason will never be friends, but they've made amends enough to coexist. Stephanie takes up the Spoiler mantle again.
To celebrate, the family goes to Haly's Circus. The Grayson's die, and Bruce takes in Dick, age 9. Dick discovers their secret identities and dubs himself Robin. He's an angry little gremlin determined to murder Zucco, and Bruce feels like he's been here before a few times already.
Later, there's a rumor of another Spoiler running around. Stephanie, age 22, is not prepared to find tiny Barbara Gordon, age 10, running around by herself, trying to catch bad guys. She starts chasing Barbara around, trying to talk her out of heroics. ("Is this how Bruce felt? Oh, hell, I'm too young to be a mother.") She finally relents and starts training Barbara herself. ("But you can't steal my name, kid. Gotta come up with your own." "Fine. I'll be Batgirl, then." "Batgirl, huh? Alright, let's see if you can live up to it.")
I'm just so 😩 about them

untitled janet/talia, Bruce's bio kid Tim AU pt. 3
FIRST | SECOND | THIRD | FOURTH | FIFTH | SIXTH | SEVENTH | EIGHTH | NINTH | TENTH | ELEVENTH | TWELFTH | THIRTEENTH
AO3 Link (a little behind, but better edited)
---
“Well, he’s not Jack’s and I only slept with him and you that one night,” she said, struggling to keep her voice level and not snap. Her pride was fighting with her sense, hating that she had to bare her soul and be looked at with so much distrust. “And a lovely woman named Carmen, but I thought I could probably rule her out for not having a penis.”
Bruce huffed, half sigh and half laugh.
“Okay,” he said slowly. “Assuming this is true… why now? What do you want?”
It was a valid question. She had no doubt that from the surface she looked like a gold-digger at best, a home wrecker at worst.
“Right now because… Jack and I have been fighting,” she said and almost got away with appeared unaffected until her chest hitched with a caught breath. She wasn’t going to cry here, she reminded herself. She’d put in all that work to seem normal. She was. Not. Going. To. Cry.
She cleared her throat and Bruce did her the kindness of ignoring her little slip.
“He wanted another kid, so I went off my birth control. We’ve- We had been trying with no luck, so Jack went to his doctor for tests. And then ordered a paternity test.”
Bruce grimaced.
“He didn’t take it very well,” Janet finished tactfully. “I think we both knew deep down that Tim wasn’t his, but all of this made him confront the fact that he likely won’t have a biological child of his own. It’s just – We were fighting again and when I had Tim things got better and I know you’re happy with Talia, but-”
Janet cut herself off, hand going to cover her eyes. She knew she was rambling and had no idea where she was even going with it. All the practice she’d put in and she still forgot her script when it mattered most.
She felt alone. She felt like the lowest kind of person despite knowing that she wasn’t out to exploit Bruce.
She wanted all of this to be over, one way or another.
Bruce surprised her by asking, “Are you safe?”
Janet laughed. “What?”
“I know that tensions can run high in these kinds of situations,” he explained awkwardly, eyes bright and watchful as they roved over her face. Looking for… what, bruises? Sweet man. Foolish man. But still sweet.
“I’m safe,” she confirmed. “Tim’s safe- Well, he’s been upset lately from hearing us fighting, but he’s physically safe. I’m doing this for him, Bruce.”
Janet’s eyes dropped from his to look at her phone, still sitting between them on the desk. Tim’s little face, sticky and smiling still lit the screen.
“He deserves a parent that actually wants him,” she said quietly. Loathing and self recrimination bubbled up in the back of her throat and she had to swallow it back like bile. “He’s a good boy, Bruce, but I wasn’t made to be a mother.”
Bruce seemed to soften at that, if only a little. He slid her phone back towards her.
“I want a test,” he said. “But even if it’s negative, I’ll help you figure out your next steps.”
“I’m not a Gotham orphan boy,” Janet laughed. “You don’t have to sweep in and try to fix my life. If it’s somehow negative, I’ll sort out my own feelings on human parthenogenesis on my own.”
Bruce crooked a smile at that. For all that they’d only had that one night together, it was nice to see that they still had a sort of rapport. It was a relief, Janet had to admit to herself. Even though she wouldn’t be taking Bruce’s offer of charity, it was nice to know it was offered at all.
“I have some samples,” she said and pulled out a baggie with Tim’s tooth and hair brushes. “Given that I’m sure you get half a dozen paternity claims a month, I’m sure you know a good lab.”
“The best lab, in fact,” Bruce said. He gestured broadly at the floor to indicate the whole of Wayne Enterprises. “I’m sure I can find a lab to do the test. We have so many of them, after all.”
Janet laughed, surprising herself. “Okay, that makes sense.”
“I’ll get the samples to them right after you leave and I’ll call when the results come back. We can set up another meeting then.”
“I’m free whenever,” she said with a rueful smile. “As you can imagine, I don’t have much going on right now except for watching Tim.”
“Right,” Bruce nodded. “But to be absolutely clear: If I am Tim’s father, are you looking to give me custody? As in, primary physical custody?”
“I still want to see him and be in his life,” she said immediately. “I do love him. I know I’m a terrible excuse for a mother, but-”
“Janet, I can tell that you love him,” he interrupted. “I know you’re a proud person and you wouldn’t be doing this if you didn’t want the best for your son. I’m honored that you think I might be that.”
“Well, you seem to know what you’re doing,” she said. “You have two boys already and they both seem reasonably happy and well adjusted.”
“I’d like to think so even if they’ve nearly driven my butler into an early retirement.”
“And I don’t want to make an enemy of your partner,” Janet added. “I just want Tim to be safe and loved.
“Let me worry about Talia,” Bruce said and Janet smiled sardonically. Not worrying about the fierce Talia al Ghul wasn’t something she was capable of, but it was a nice sentiment.
With that, Janet let Bruce wrap their conversation up and usher her from his office. She knew he had to be eager to get his people to work on the paternity test, so she didn’t take offense to her dismissal. She said her goodbyes to Emma on her way out, feeling lighter than she had in weeks.
The weather was nice when she stepped outside. The sun was almost shining and Janet thought that maybe Tim might like to go to the park or something a little later in the day.
Despite her earlier intentions, Janet stopped at a corner store on her way home. There wasn’t much of a toothbrush selection, but she reasoned that Tim wouldn’t deal well with too much activity. It was the store or the park and he would probably rather go to the park.
She picked out a Superman toothbrush (the Batman ones were sold out and they didn’t seem to sell Robin ones) and swore to herself that she would go home for a short nap before taking Tim to the park.
…
Bruce’s call woke her up shortly before dinner. He asked if she could come in tomorrow morning at the same time and she told him of course. Then, he tentatively asked if she could bring Tim and she said naturally.
After the call, she hauled herself out of bed to figure out dinner. She had no idea what Tim had done for lunch and tried not to hate herself for the fact.

So you said you made notes for your GOT au?
yes i did !!
disclaimer : this will not follow game of thrones’s event and im changing what family did what bc i can so everything can fit together i hope no got enthusiast follows me for accuracy
so first of all i just made the executive decision to keep Game of Thrones’s places names for less confusion (for exemple “Westeros” as the name of the continent, “King’s Landing” for the name of the king’s palace where most of tim’s story happens, “Winterfell” as the wayne’s hometown ect....) bc it’ll make everything easier, at least for me.
so for those who have no clue whats up with game of thrones, first of all u are so valid sometimes i wish i didnt know shit about it. second of all, here is some setting for my AU.
the story takes place in westeros, a continent who used to be made off several kingdoms (the seven kingdoms) and have been united through conquest by uhhh a family i have yet to determine yet. the years in this universe are noted as “BC (before conquest)” and “AC (after conquest).”
these seven “kingdoms” are now only one kingdom ruled by a king who reigns from the Red Keep (the castle) in King’s Landing (the city). the old kingdoms can be seen as seven big region who have several lords and noble houses, with one being the lord of the region (im sorry i dont have a better word rip) and living in the capital city of the region. for exemple the waynes (family) are ruling the north (region) in winterfell (city).
so until 278 AC the king sitting on the iron throne was bad and crazy and im not sure who it is yet rip but the point is that several houses formed a rebellion, the main ones being the Wayne house, the Kent house, the Prince house and the Al Ghul house. they overthrew the king and clark became king of the seven kingdoms, marrying talia al ghul (yes i know its weird but please i have a plan).
tim is born in 285 AC in house drake, rulers of the kingdom of stormland. house drake has always been quite a strong house because it was said one of their ancestor married a dragon godess, allowing them to communicate and tame dragons. while it used to be a great power, generations by generations the number of people who had this gift dwindled, just like the number of living dragons, until it was said that this side of the bloodline was near extinct.
janet drake (jack married into the family), lady of storm’s end, was one of the last known gifted drake. she was a cold woman but one who’s strategic power wasn’t quite matched, and who had the protection of a full grown ice dragon. she, along the rest of house drake, sided with the rebellion in 278 AC. so when tim was 7, in 282 AC, she sent him to house Wayne to become a squire.
it’s only a few weeks after tim’s arrival that house drake get attacked and completely eliminated, leaving tim as the last of house drake, and unbeknownst to him, the last person who can talk to dragons.
after this tragedy, bruce wayne adopts tim drake as one of his own, his fourth adopted child, as selina cannot concieve due to an injury she sustained during the rebellion, in battle.
its its 298 AC, 6 years later, that clark and talia do their anual visit to their dear friends in the north, and clark names bruce hand of the king, asking him to come back to king’s landing with him as one of the last men he trusts.

Read on AO3 Part of the Future Klance Family Fics Series
“So... uhhh... who are you supposed to be?” Lance asked, knocking the fridge door closed with his hip. His brother-in-law stopped fiddling with his hair and shot him an incredulous look, “you can’t tell?”
“I have my theories... but I didn’t think the kids would be able to convince you to take part in the whole ‘group costume’ thing they’ve got going on this year. Did they?”
“I love my niece and nephews, Lance,” Yorak growled, tugging at his jacket uncomfortably.
There it was. The growl. He had no idea why the kid insisted on doing it, but every. single. time. they were in the same room, Yory ended up growling at him. Despite assurances to the contrary, Lance was sure the kid couldn’t stand him, but whatever. Lance had known him since birth and he was family, so little Yorak Gayth of the plentiful growls could just deal with the fact that Keith’s husband loved him, even when he was a little shit.
“So... that’s a yes,” Lance fought the urge to smirk. It was a decent costume, especially considering that the Galra had no equivalent to Halloween for Keith’s brother to draw on. “Did you pick this one, or was it assigned to you by a certain girl with big, blinky eyes and the ability to make her uncles cave in ten seconds flat?”
“I didn’t really care what costume I got,” shrugging, Yory glanced through the door and up the stairs to where the others were still getting ready. “Everyone else did.”
There wasn’t a strong resemblance between Keith and Yorak, mostly due to the fact that Keith looked human and Yorak, being full-blooded Galra... didn’t. Krolia’s son with Kolivan was probably going to end up being a huge guy, but he was currently just shy of his eighteenth birthday and was even more slight than Keith had been at that age. At the moment, he was wearing a tailcoat tux over a false hump. His coloring and markings matched his father’s pretty closely, but the eyes... those were his mother’s, and so was the sharp chin and comparatively delicate ears. (Oddly, this particular combination of bone structure and coloring made Yorak look a lot like Axca, and he was often confused for her sibling or child.)
Even now, Lance couldn’t see Yorak in profile without having the memory of the first time Keith had gotten to hold him flood him.
Keith had been a wreck.
The whole pregnancy had been difficult for him, but the few hours between the announcement of the arrival of a healthy son and Keith getting to see the reality of it for himself were... a whole new level of stress. They’d already been en route to the station that was serving as a temporary home to Lance’s in-laws with Thace in tow. Galra babies were tinier than Lance expected. Yorak had been barely five pounds and was seen as being an unusually robust newborn.
After greeting an exhausted but happy Krolia, Lance had hung back and given Keith some space to adjust to the shift in his family. He’d been nervous and skittish and kept glancing to Lance and Thace like they were a touchstone... and in a way, maybe they were. Maybe they reminded him that even if his worst fears panned out, he wouldn’t be alone again. No matter how enthralled Krolia became with the son she didn’t have to leave behind, Keith had a husband who loved him, a son that adored him, and a family in Voltron that had been forged in battle and peace and he would never, ever be isolated again.
Yorak had been sleeping, nestled against Kolivan’s chest, a blanket draped over the tiny boy. When he’d woken, Kolivan had quietly, confidently handed him to a very surprised and nervous Keith with the soft command to ‘meet your brother’ and Lance had gotten to watch his husband fall in love with a sibling he’d only been able to see as a threat until that very moment.
Just like he had when Thace had been born and placed in his arms, Keith melted. His breath had escaped him in a soft coo, one fingertip tracing the line of the baby’s brow and the shell of that tiny, softly fuzzed, pointed ear. Yorak had rooted around like he was hungry and Keith had offered a knuckle for him to gnaw on. “Hey,” Keith had whispered, “I’m your big brother..”
Yory wasn’t often around, due to the nomadic nature of life for the remaining Blade members, but when he was, he spent as much time with the kids as he did with Keith- their relationship closer to that of cousins than uncle and niblings because they were all around the same age. This time around, that meant the Galran youth was getting to join them at the Halloween Dance that the school was throwing. The twins and Talia’s boyfriend had each listed one of the non-students in the group as their official guest, which meant that Yory, who had never been enrolled in the Atlas school system and Thace and his girlfriend Juanita, who’d graduated in the spring, could attend.
“The costume looks great,” Lance reassured him, his attention returning tot he present moment. “Have you even seen the movie?”
Yorak nodded, “it was... odd. But I liked the music!”
Lance chuckled, “yeah, Rocky Horror is kind of gloriously weird. Ahh! There they are!”
Rai was the first one to descend the stairs and his costume actually managed to leave his Papi speechless. Rai was the quiet one! He didn’t like being the center of attention! When the kids had told Lance of their plans, he never, ever, ever would have figured that sixteen year old Rai would be the one to dress as Frankie! Granted- it was the most modest of the Frankie costume options: old-fashioned surgical garb, long pink rubber gloves, clunky heels, pearls, and a full wig and make-up combo- but, still! “You look great!” he gushed, because it was the truth. They’d even gone so far as to splatter him with some fake blood and arm him with a plastic pickaxe.
“Thanks, Papi! Oh, hey, Yory!” Rai punched his uncle lightly in the shoulder by way of greeting, “you look awesome! Tonight is going to be a blast.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” Yory answered, relaxing a little.
The girls were next- Talia as Magenta and Juanita as Columbia, also both in the more modest costume choices from the surgical scene, with white aprons and paper masks over the maid outfit and tap shorts. They were closely trailed by Thace, dressed as Eddie. With his skin powered and painted to be corpse-pale, his brown hair darkened to black courtesy of Halloween hairspray, and the combination of the leather jacket with the slight snarl he looked eerily like Keith had at his age and Lance had to take a moment... because... “Quiznak, you are all so grown up! How did that happen? Keith! Come see the kids before they go!!”
“We can’t go anywhere just yet,” Talia pointed out, fussing with her costume so the compact oxygen tank strapped to her leg was better hidden. “Bailey is meeting up with us here!”
“Besides,” grinned Juanita, “I’m sure you are going to want to get pictures of us, Mr. McClain!”
“See? You get me, Juanita!” He answered, “it’s why you are my favorite.”
“Your favorite? How many girlfriends has Thace had??” she laughed, but Thace was glaring daggers at him.
“Just you, mijita,” he answered easily, “proving how smart my boy is.”
“You’re the only one allowed to call him ‘Mr. McClain’, too,” Keith pointed out, appearing behind Lance without warning and slipping his arms around him.
Lance squawked, reaching down automatically to pet the massive space wolf, “did you seriously just Kosmo-poof out here from the next room? That seems excessive!”
“That’s only because it was so confusing with me calling you both ‘Mr. Kogane’ and I wouldn’t use his first name!” “My first name is still a valid option. You can always call me Lance. You know that.”
“I could never!” she protested, “my Mami would throw chanclas! She’d know!”
Keith shook his head. He didn’t really understand, but Lance did, and that was all that really mattered.Dropping a little kiss to the curve of Lance’s neck he turned his attention back to the kids, “okay... we’ve got... Eddie and Columbia, Magenta and Riff Raff, and... of course... Frankie. So, we are missing... who are we missing?”
“Brad and Janet,” Lance pointed out, “the supposed leads.”
“That’s gonna be Bailey’s friend Silas and his girlfriend Elodie,” Talia answered eagerly. “They’re doing the wedding outfits and she showed me pics and they are gonna look soooo adorable!”
“We don’t have a Dr. Scott,” Rai pointed out, just as the door buzzer went off and Talia pushed past him to answer it. “But a few of the kids from class are going to be revelers.”
“Sounds like you’ve got a good bunch of kids working together,” Keith chuckled. “You should get the good camera, Tumbleweed... you’ve got to get your requisite four hundred pictures, and we don’t want to hold them up!”
“Do you remember my mother’s reaction to the lack of pictures from Thace’s first Christmas?” Lance muttered, reluctantly stepping out of the ring of his husband’s arms, “because I remember and I have no interest in repeating that whole mess!”
By the time he returned with the camera, the group was complete. “Bailey,” he said evenly, smiling at the boy and faltering a little. Seriously, what was he supposed to say to the teenager dressed in gold booty shorts and a liberal dusting of body glitter? Any compliment he could come up with would be seriously creepy for him to say to his daughter’s boyfriend. “You... make a great Rocky.” That wasn’t too bad, right?
“Everyone looks great,” Keith agreed. Lance fought the urge to glare at him for taking the easy way out and lumping all the kids together, because it was petty to punish his husband for thinking of something that Lance hadn’t and Lance was better than that, dammit.
Familiar with the routine by now, all the kids squished together in the frame and smiled as he snapped picture after picture of them until Keith declared them done. They did a quick run through of the rules (which Lance was sure that Yory would find some way to circumvent, as per usual) and Keith double checked that they all had sufficient spending money for snacks at the bake sale table.
“Have fun,” he said as he closed the door behind them.
Keith glanced at the clock on the wall, “so... it’s six now- when does the dance wrap up?”
“Eleven,” he replied, automatically moving to sort the tangle of shoes that was taking over the entrance.
“So, five hours, plus an hour of milling around and dawdling at the various quarters on their way back here.”
“Mmhmmm... want to put on a movie for us to watch with Kashi and Lucas?”
“They aren’t here,” Keith grinned at him. “I sent them off for sleepovers! Kashi is with Pidge, and Lucas is keeping Romelle and Alban company while Allura and Coran are on New Altea- she promised to make pie. I’ve never seen that kid pack so fast!”
“When did you do that?”
“While you were catching up with my brother. Kosmo dropped them off. Sooo,” he tugged Lance into his arms, ignoring the soccer cleat in his free hand, “we’ve got the evening to ourselves, Tumbleweed. What do you think of that?”
“I think,” he answered, looping his arms around Keith’s neck and smiling into that handsome face, “I might just kiss you.”
“You might?”
“Oh no... you heard that wrong, babe. I am definitely gonna kiss you. I might just kiss you... but I’ll probably do a lot more than that... you know... if you’re interested.”
"I love you," Keith laughed, eyes dancing, "of course I'm interested."
"Good... and I love you, too."

Bunnies Off my Chest
I neeeed to get back to SUYF, but maybe in order to do that, I should get some of the plot bunnies bugging me out into the open. Apparently reading too much Wonder Woman in one sitting will do that.
🔲Powerless crossover. Jackie has a dark secret. She was one of several civilians who died in Bludhaven, but was resurrected (and de-undeaded, if that’s a thing) during the blight of the Black Lanterns. Unlike most people who tried to simply return to their lives, Jackie also suffered from amnesia, and had no idea who she had been before.
Despite her lack of past, she built a new life for herself in Charm City by having a daughter and becoming the secretary for Van. She had things mostly figured out until the young CEO of Wayne Tech came to visit. Jackie’s world turned upside-down when Timothy Drake-Wayne grabbed her shoulders with shaking hands and whispered, “Dana… is it really you?”
Now Jackie finds herself with a forgotten step(?)son who’s known too much loss to forget he saw her. Her life is about to get complicated.
🔲Tim/Cassie Childhood Friends AU (That could be in the Young Justice Cartoon ‘verse). Jack and Janet prepare go to an archeologist expo and find that the theme of “legacy” is encouraging all the attendees to to bring their children. So for once, they take their son. Helena Sandsmark also attends and brings Cassie and thus she and Tim meet, and get along swimmingly.
The Drakes do not bother to bring Tim to other events, much to Cassie’s eternal disappointment. Fast forward to a couple years later, Nightwing is apologizing to Cassie about all the protocols of secrecy that prevent him from telling her his name or the name of the Robin she’s about to meet. But she finds… it’s him.
Tim privately freaks out and tries to warn Cassie of Batman’s paranoia and now the REAL secret is that Cassie has already figured out half the bat-fam’s ID’s through her childhood friend.
🔲 Tim/Cassie Lazarus Pit AU. Post OYL, Tim wakes up and something feels utterly horribly WRONG. Cassie is crying and apologizing, and Tim can feel something horrible practically trying to rise up out of him. It’s the bloodlust of the Lazarus pit. Tim died on a Titan’s mission, and Cassie couldn’t bear it. While the pit wouldn’t work for bringing back any of the others they lost, Tim’s body was enough in one piece that Cassie could cut a deal with Ra’s al Ghul and bring Tim back. Cassie must now perform labors for the immortal like the demigods of old, and Tim remains with her as they both struggle together with the debt and the madness.
🔲Tim/Cassie Midsummer Night’s Dream Curse. Post OYL. Circe is out to mess with the wonder-fam and Tim is helping Cassie when he get hit with a potion of cupid’s tears, making him doomed to fall embarrassingly head-over heels for the first person he lays eyes on. Smart boy that he is, Tim immediately blindfolds himself so he won’t lay eyes on anyone.
But danger and frustration occur, and Tim eventually figures what the heck, he’s gonna have to work out how to get un-cursed anyway and he trusts Cassie, so he undoes the blindfold to help her.
The result is initially anticlimactic. Tim’s ostensible passionate devotion doesn’t look much different from his friendship. And Cassie… Cassie is suffering from incredible loneliness and abandonment at this point in time, so a Tim who’s a little extra clingy, a little more inclined to kiss and cuddle, and prefers to stay at the Tower rather than return to Gotham is… addictive.
But when problems escalate in Gotham, and Tim still refuses to leave to help his family, it becomes a stark reminder that his curse is actually a problem that needs fixing.
🔲Tim/Tam protection detail. When a stalker targets Tam specifically, she decides to forgive Tim enough to call on him for help. The new villain, however, is hard to trap. Circumstances call for Tim to guard Tam closely. Very closely. Living in her apartment levels of closely.
🔲Tim/Tam (Not Entirely) Fake Wedding Date. Tam has a longstanding rivalry with her cousin who is getting married. She must have a date for the wedding, and no date is going to be more impressive than her CEO boss. She tells Tim that things will be square between them if he helps her. He readily agrees, though it quickly becomes clear that he doesn't know what the heck he's doing. Tam was not prepared for him to be so cute while trying so hard.
🔲 OYL Jason/Donna. A recently-resurrected Jason is running an errand for Talia outside of Gotham, when he get’s stopped by Wonder Woman. Who, at the time, is Donna Troy. Somehow, arrest becomes intercession, which ends up morphing into a date.
🔲Flash S3 finale Angst AU. (spoilers!!!!!) Savitar agrees to reform, and Barry sacrifices himself to the speed force to live up to his word that Savitar will not be treated as disposable again. Devastated as she is, Iris is the only one willing to open her home to Barry's formerly evil double. The nights are lonely. Except when they're riddled with guilt instead.
🔲Flash S3 finale Crack AU. (spoilers!!!!!) Barry is not summoned into the speed force. Savitar again gives Barry's reformation idea an actual try. He decides after the first awkward night of sleeping on Barry and Iris's couch that if he can't be murderous about his fate, he can still be obnoxious about it. Cue publicly introducing himself as Barry's edgier long-lost twin and dating all of Barry's exes. "What's the deal, Barry? I'm just giving more people a second chance."

TIMOTHY DRAKE | 20 | RED ROBIN | BATFAMILY | DYLAN O’BRIEN | OPEN
“But if Bruce taught me anything, it’s that you have to have a game plan for everything, even for death.”
DATABASE HISTORY:
The world has a way of working in which a moment that seems entirely inconsequential can later be brought back in a much more significant setting. For Timothy Drake, this moment occurred when he was four years old and attending Haley’s Circus with his parents Jack and Janet Drake. Tim’s father asked if the circuses main attraction, the Flying Graysons, would take a photo with them and the acrobats agreed. The youngest Grayson, Dick, paid Tim special attention and promised that he would dedicated his performance to him. Afterwards Tim and his parents went to their seats and the Graysons started the show.
There was no way of anyone knowing that the high wire was going to snap, or that one day Richard Grayson would become Tim’s adopted brother. As soon as the John and Mary Grayson fell to their death, Tim’s parents rushed him out of the tent to spare their son from seeing the tragedy. They weren’t fast enough though, and Tim witnessed the Batman himself consoling the desolate Dick before he made it outside. The photo that was taken of the two families was later sent to Dick by the Drakes because they felt bad for him, and that was the last time that Tim thought about it for five years.
At the age of nine, Tim watched some footage of Batman and his partner Robin and made a huge revelation. The move Robin was doing was a quadruple somersault, and that was so rare that only a flying Grayson could do it. After a little research, Tim found that Dick Grayson had become the ward of billionaire Bruce Wayne. Connecting the dots that numerous adults had missed, Tim realized that Batman and Robin were none other than Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne. Choosing to keep this information to himself, Tim watched their exploits for years through Dick’s shift to Nightwing and the arrival of the second Robin, Jason Todd. When Jason abruptly died shortly after, Tim noted the change in the Batman and deduced that he actually needed a Robin for the sake of his sanity.
When Nightwing, aka an older Dick Grayson, traveled away from Gotham to work with the Teen Titans Tim decided to follow him. The two ended up solving a case in the place that they had originally met as innocent children, Haley’s Circus, and Tim made Dick realize that Bruce needed help. His former partner decided to help him as Nightwing, but Tim insisted that Bruce needed a Robin. Dick ignored Tim’s theory and went to help Bruce, only for them both to be taken by Two-Face.
At only thirteen years old, Tim went to Wayne Manor and spoke with Alfred Pennyworth who helped equip him in the Robin costume. With the proper gear, Tim was able to save both Dick and Bruce and made the plea to become the next Robin. Bruce was reluctant but relented and agreed that Tim could be Robin on a trial basis. The next several months consisted of Tim being trained by Alfred, Bruce and Dick before he was allowed to wear the costume again or go out into the field.
Before Tim was introduced as Robin however, a criminal by the name of the Obeah Man kidnapped Tim’s parents while they were on vacation in the Caribbean with plans to sacrifice them. Bruce managed to save the two and stop the Obeah Man, but not before Janet and Jack drank some water laced with poison. Janet died from the substance, and Jack was left in a coma with paralysis. Bruce began to doubt if Tim should be Robin as he now had a reason for vengeance, which had destroyed Jason, but Tim reiterated that he wanted to do what was right and not get revenge. After he saved Bruce and the reporter Vicki Vale from the Scarecrow, Bruce allowed Tim to officially become Robin and gave him his own costume.
The training didn’t stop there though. Even though Tim had what he wanted for so long, he then began to have doubts. Bruce reassured him that he had not only earned the role but had Bruce’s faith in him, because he wanted someone who not only had guts but was smart and Tim possessed both of those traits plus some. Before Batman would let Robin on the streets of Gotham he took him on a world tour overseas in order to help Tim figure out who he was in addition to improving on his fighting skills. During this time Tim crossed paths with Lady Shiva and King Snake, but when he refused to kill King Snake at Shiva’s command he proved himself to Bruce as ready and was brought back to Gotham to begin his tenure.
Tim soon proved himself to be a different Robin than Jason or Dick had been. He was more reserved than Dick had been, and since he wasn’t raised an acrobat, he had to work harder on his fighting and physical prowess. Even though Tim was a fine fighter, Bruce had a rule in place that if Tim was to ever encounter one of the rogues known for killing (ie the Joker or Two-Face), he was to not engage and call in backup. That rule was disobeyed during one of Tim’s first solo cases in Gotham, when Tim ended up getting stuck in a confrontation with the Joker himself. The Joker had killed Jason Todd and was initially confused as to why he was back and if he had actually murdered the boy, but realizing that Tim was a new Robin he vowed to kill him as well. Using his intellect and skill however, Tim was able to defeat the Joker and sent him back to Arkham where the criminal made it known that Tim was his to kill.
Shortly after this, Jack Drake awoke from his coma. Tim helped him secure a house next to Wayne Manor so he could continue being Robin, but things didn’t go smoothly. Before the coma Jack had often been preoccupied with work, but after he wanted to develop a closer relationship with his son. Jack would eventually grow resentful of how close Bruce and Tim were and would site Tim’s constant disappearances as his son trying to avoid spending time with him.
When the Cluemaster was released from jail as cured, clues still popped up around Gotham and Batman and Robin decided to handle the case. While attempting to stop Arthur Brown, Tim noticed a girl in purple fleeing the scene and followed her. Thinking that she was helping Cluemaster, Tim caught and unmasked her only to find a blonde teenager who was his own age. The girl, Stephanie Brown, went by Spoiler and was actually the daughter of Cluemaster who was trying to stop her father. Tim and Bruce allied with her to catch her father, and after that Tim made sure to work with her some more and the two became friends.
Tim’s father began seeing a therapist by the name of Dana, and the two were eventually wed. The couple had been together a while when Tim got a phone call that his father needed to speak to him immediately. There was an intruder in the Drake household and a note with a gun stating that Jack needed to protect himself. Jack told Tim over the phone that he was proud of him and whatever happened was not his fault. When Tim managed to get home he found both his father and Captain Boomerang dead, as he had used the gun at the same time the hired killer had attacked. Tim was devastated at the loss of both of his parents, and shortly after Donna had a mental breakdown and was placed in a mental hospital in Bludhaven. The hospital was later overrun with crime and Donna went missing and was presumed dead.
Bruce offered to officially adopt Tim, but Tim refused and hired an actor to pretend to be his Uncle Eddie. Bruce easily saw through it and wasn’t offended, but instead offered to help Tim make a better cover-up story. Eventually, Tim relented and let Bruce adopt him. He then continued to serve as Robin while testing the boundaries and developing a little more independence to the point where he was able to pass along the Robin mantle to Damian Wayne when he was dropped into Bruce’s life. It was surprising to find that Bruce had fathered a child with Talia al Ghul, but Tim saw it as the perfect chance to take up the alias of Red Robin and experiment a bit.
DATABASE CONNECTIONS:
BRUCE WAYNE has become like a father to Tim, even though he wasn’t an orphan and had a father. He had to beg Bruce to let him be Robin after what happened to Jason, and he’s been working hard to not let him down ever since. Bruce isn’t perfect, but Tim is determined to make him proud. He needs a Robin. Batman just works better that way, and Tim knows that he can be the Robin that he needs.
DAMIAN WAYNE took the Robin mantle from Tim when Bruce decided to work with him, but Tim got over that. He and Damian have fought a few times with their fists and tried to work together once although their dislike of each other and difference in fighting skills made that hard. Tim’s trying to like the kid though. He just makes it very, very hard to do that.
DICK GRAYSON is Tim’s big brother. This is speaking in adopted terms, of course, but that doesn’t matter to either of them. Dick is a little more lighthearted than Tim at times, but they both have their strengths as Robin. From the moment Tim took a picture with Dick before the final Flying Grayson performance, he’s been his hero. Now they’re family and Tim is glad to have him around.
JASON TODD was the Robin before Tim, but Tim never got to meet his predecessor because he was murdered by the Joker. Tim knows what happened to Jason, and it’s really sad. He didn’t want to replace him, just keep the legacy going. There’s been a new guy in town though, the Red Hood, and Tim has some creeping suspicions even though he hasn’t said anything yet.
STEPHANIE BROWN may be the daughter of a criminal, but she’s become a friend of Tim’s. Stephanie shamelessly flirts with him both in and out of costume, but so far Tim has been showing her how to be a real hero because he knows that she won’t give up the cowl. There’ll be time for flirting later once she has actual skills and not just good intentions.

“This is outrageous.”
Bruce sighed, head propped up on a fist and still looking through the results of his last hour or so of intensive research. He felt more than he heard Talia move behind him and begin threading sharp nails through his hair soothingly. He might be tempting to take the comfort at face value, but knew she was likely only reading over his shoulder again.
Bruce hadn’t handed Janet’s little gifts off to any of his people. He could do it himself, after all, and something about her story had rang true enough that Bruce wanted to initially limit the number of people that knew. He couldn’t justify not telling Talia, however, and had called her on his way down to one of the labs on the lower floor.
Talia dealt with things best after she got her initial gut reaction out of the way and could be logical about the whole thing.
She strolled into WE even before the rapid DNA test was finished, not a hair out of place. She sat with him until the results came back confirming that the owner of the provided DNA sample was definitely the biological child of Bruce Wayne. And then she started pacing while Bruce got to work.
For her benefit, he clicked over to the basic background he’d run on Janet Drake. Talia sniffed derisively at the attached photo, the one she’d provided for her passport.
“You really laid with her, beloved?” she asked, voice appropriately morose.
Bruce didn’t believe it for a second. “What, like you wouldn’t have?”
“You are avoiding the question,” she said, similarly avoiding the question. “Why her?”
“We weren’t together at the time. I was traveling without Dick or Alfred and ended up in Cypress for a few days. I witnessed her get off the phone and throw her wedding band into the pool and offered to buy her a drink,” he explained and shrugged. “We were both from Gotham and homesick. I asked, but birth control can fail.”
“Or she lied.”
“She didn’t.” Bruce began pulling up medical files for Talia to peruse. Her hair dragged across his neck as she leaned in to see better and he couldn’t resist tilting his head to rest against her. “I pulled her medical files. She had an IUD at the time of conception and had to fly back to Gotham to have it removed. He ordered bed rest and even so the chance of a miscarriage was so high that she was warned not to name the- the fetus.”
“The baby,” Talia corrected for him. “Your baby.”
Wordlessly, Bruce straightened and pulled up a picture of little Timothy Jackson Drake. Unlike most heirs of Gotham’s elite, pictures of the boy were few and far between on social media or in the press. So, naturally, Bruce hacked into Janet’s cloud in hopes of finding more.
He did, but not by much. Travel logs put the Drakes out of the country for a good chunk of the year and only a very broken trail of nannies left to mind the little boy while his parents were off globetrotting. Only their housekeeper had been with the family for more than a year.
And they wanted another, Bruce thought despairingly.
“He looks like you,” Talia said, an almost sad twist to her mouth making Bruce want to lean in and kiss it away. “Exactly like you. Jack Drake must be a fool.”
“I was bigger at his age,” Bruce said carelessly, carefully spinning around to face her. She let him take her hands and look hard into her eyes. “Listen to me. This doesn’t change the love I have for you or Damian. This was an accident, yes, but there’s no reason being angry with Janet or Tim.”
Talia’s own piercing green eyes searched his face while he tried to work against his training and remain open and honest. He owed her transparency. He owed her the world for sacrificing her entire life when she abandoned her family and the League.
“What does this Janet want with us?” she asked after a long moment, taking her hands back from Bruce. She instead wrapped them comfortably around her baby bump.
“She said that Tim’s parentage came into question when she and Jack tried for another baby.” And because if he could be petty with anyone, he could be petty with Talia, he added, “Because I guess having a child fixed their marriage so well in the first place.”
Talia’s eyes strayed back to the screen where Tim’s picture was still prominently displayed. “He does not look like a miracle worker, but I suppose I will have to reserve my judgments until I meet the boy at least. I notice that he does not, in fact, have any siblings.”
“Jack’s infertile,” he said. “Or close enough. When he found out, he ordered a paternity test and filed for divorce the next day.”
“Quick. Efficient.”
“Janet tells me that he’s the one that wanted children and that she doubts her ability to care for Tim on her own.”
“He means to leave her destitute?” Talia asked, leaning over Bruce to click back to his profile on Janet. She scrolled through to look for other pictures, faculty IDs and visa photos and whatnot. “She’s attractive enough. She may join my harem if she so chooses.”
“But it was a problem when I slept with her,” Bruce complained. Talia flashed him a dangerous grin. “No, the divorce proceedings do seem fair to her. I think that it’s more that she doubts herself as a mother. I think she fears what damage she could do to him as a single mother that didn’t want a child in the first place.”
“She knows of your other rescues and seeks to leave him on your doorstep, then.”
“Talia,” he growled. She patted his cheek condescending.
“Relax, beloved. Jason was the one to label himself as such and Richard already loathes me,” she said. “I mean them no ill will.”
“He doesn’t loathe you.”
“He does and it works for us.” She gave an elegant shrug. “And what of Jason? You’ve only just acclimated him to our lifestyle and now you mean to add another right before Damian arrives.”
“I’ll talk to him tonight before patrol,” Bruce promised. “Jason likes other kids and it isn’t like Tim is moving in tomorrow. Janet and Tim are still living with Jack for now. With any luck, we can figure out a joint custody agreement that works for everyone. In the future Janet wants to give me primary custody, yes, but she wants to be a part of Tim’s life.”
“So we will be co-parenting with this woman,” Talia sighed dramatically and Bruce very lovingly didn’t point out that five minutes ago she had been inviting “this woman” into her harem. “While you no doubt ply her support at every opportunity. I implore you to wear a condom this time, beloved.”
Bruce straightened in his chair in indignation.
“You impregnated her through an IUD last time,” she continued. “Who knows what you could do with the woman if she’s not using birth control this time.”
Bruce, very lovingly, did point out her hypocrisy now. “Talia, you were just inviting her into your harem. I feel like you’re projecting.”
“I would never turn a straight women even if they were truly beautiful. If they are happy settling, who am I to take that from them?”
“I don’t know for sure how Janet identifies, but I can say for sure that she’s slept with at least one woman,” he said. Talia looked delighted. “Apparently she was out of the running for paternity pretty soon, though.”
“I can work with that,” she declared and gently lowered herself to his lap. He took her added weight effortlessly, wrapping his arms around her to secure their precious cargo. She kissed him, long and sweet. Against his lips, she whispered, “I am angry. I know you do not place much value on blood ties, but I…”
“I know,” he whispered back, pressing his forehead against hers. “But thank you for trying.”
“I am,” she said. She tried to breathe through the lump forming in her throat, but pressed together like they were, Bruce must have known. “I do try. It doesn’t come easy for me, but I try.”
“You make the choice to be here with me every day. You’re working so hard and I see it, Talia, I do.”
She had no words for that, so she just curled against him as best she could with little Damian between them. Not the first of Bruce’s blood sons anymore, but the first of hers and cherished all the more for it.

Jason’s stop at the manor involved a quick change out of his uniform and into “normal people clothes” with a quick pit stop to pick up a Batman themed Build-A-Bear from Jason’s room. Bruce eyed it warily, but Jason gave him a cheeky smile in response and refused to elaborate.
They had to park a good block away and walk since the parking situation in Gotham was perpetually dire with all of the construction going on now and forever. Bruce regretted not offering to give Janet and Tim a ride, but Jason quickly pointed out that Talia would let him sit in jail for awhile if he were to punch Jack Drake.
“My money is on him saying something when you show up to pick up Tim,” Jason said. “Talia said you would probably just look at him and lose it.”
“What about Dick?”
“Oh, he’s betting that Jack tries to hit you and you use it as an excuse.”
Bruce doesn’t dignify that with a response and hastens down the stairs of the parking garage. It’s not terribly hot for Gotham in summer, but the two of them are still sweating when they arrive at the diner.
They met Janet on the sidewalk, tucked out of the way of any foot traffic. She stood just to the side of the front door, out of the way of pedestrians and customers alike with Tim in her arms. His face was buried against her chest, arms wrapped firmly around her neck.
He was dressed for the weather in shorts and a t-shirt, but Janet traded her business casual clothes for a light hoodie and jeans. Bruce cataloged the change, but didn’t mention it as he steered Jason over to the mother and child.
“Hey there.”
Janet smiled a greeting and Tim peeked out, little face flushed and eyes a little teary.
Bruce’s heart ached for the boy.
“We had a little trouble with the nap,” Janet confessed, bobbing Tim up and down in a gentle rocking motion. He sniffled hard and rubbed at his eyes, straightening more when he realized who had walked up. They got a miserable little wave in greeting, his voice probably gone from what Bruce could only assume was a truly fantastic meltdown.
“Hey.” Jason waved back, immediately capturing Tim’s attention. He put his hands behind his back before Tim looked out at them and was now smiling at Tim as charmingly as possible. “You’re Tim, right? I’m Jason. I brought you a present, if you want it.”
Tim blinked at him, thinking it over. After a moment, he began to wiggle, clearly very willing to be bribed into liking his new brother. Janet bent over to set him down, but Tim shoved his hand into hers just in case. He pulled her along as he went over to Jason.
“Well, it’s more of a loan,” Jason continued, pulling the bear from behind his back. Tim’s eyes went wide and Jason could see how closely he matched his father in color. “See, when I first came to live with Bruce, his first son, Dick, took me to the mall. We made Batbear together. Now that you’re here, I want you to hold onto him until I can take you to make a Robin bear.”
Tim dropped Janet’s hand to reach out for the bear. Jason handed it over easily and they all watched him pull Batbear in for a test hug. Its short fur clung to his red cheeks as he rested his face on the bear’s fuzzy little head.
“There’s a Batgirl bear now too,” Tim said.
“Yeah they do,” Jason agreed as Janet and Bruce exchanged a look. He didn’t comment on them being weird.
“But Robin is my favorite.”
“That’s why you get a Robin bear,” he said. “I’ll take Batbear back and you can have Robin bear.”
“And they’ll be friends, right?” Tim confirmed.
“Best friends,” Jason promised. Tim lifted his head and tucked Batbear under his arm, nodding decisively. He reached for Jason’s hand and Jason let him.
Bruce’s heart was gooey in his chest and it threatened to choke him. Before he could do something awful like reach down to bear hug his sons, he suggested they move inside and out of the heat. Janet nodded along and let Bruce guide them inside to be promptly seated; unsurprisingly, Bruce was a friend of the owner.

no choice but to love you pt. 9

The hour that Bruce wiggled into his otherwise busy schedule seemed to fly by. He talked with Janet and Tim off and on and managed to hammer out some joint expectations for Tim’s future – private schools, not boarding schools and agreeing to let Tim continue to work with his tutors.
Personally, Bruce thought a five year old was a little young for private tutors, but Tim seemed generally positive about them and he could read and write very well for his age.
Just as Janet had predicted, Tim warmed up to Bruce after he selected a picture of a brontosaurus to color. To Janet’s surprise, he sat on the floor beside the table, uncaring of how it might ruin the lines of his suit. She didn’t partake but she did hand them both juice boxes when they took a short break to get to the really important topics, like favorite colors and favorite insects.
(Red and the Black Swallowtail, for future reference.)
(Seeing his subtle confusion over such an incredibly specific insect, especially after Tim hit him with a full infodump, Janet explained that Tim had only recently found out that New Jersey had a state butterfly. He took it to heart and repped it just as any Gothamite repped the Gotham Gaslamps. Otherwise, his favorite was the taxi cab beetle.)
It was hard not to be ridiculously charmed, Bruce found. Tim shared well, but as Bruce noted before, he was a very particular child. Polite, of course, but particular.
His crayons had to go back into the box just so, but anyone could use them as long as they didn’t break them or put them away. Tim explained that he could sharpen the crayons, so Bruce had to give them back if he wanted them sharpened. He had a system and that was understandable. Jason also had a system when it came to his books and his reading pile.
“Talia has dinner plans tonight,” Bruce mentioned as Janet gathered the coloring books back up and Tim slid the last of his crayons back into their box. He knew that he was rushing things a little bit here, but he’d honestly had fun and didn’t want this little delightful boy to leave.
If Lucius wouldn’t skin him for it, Bruce would have told his assistant to cancel the rest of his meetings for the day.
“Usually I would just throw some sandwiches together for Jason and I – Alfred has Wednesday evenings off – but maybe we can arrange something so the boys can meet,” he finished. Dick wouldn’t be visiting until the weekend, but he did speak with his first son this morning about Tim.
Bruce hadn’t appreciated the derisive laughter, but after all the safe sex talks he’d given Dick, he couldn’t really defend himself. He should have insisted on a condom although at the moment he would say otherwise.
Janet straightened, pulling the tote bag back over her shoulder. She looked surprised.
“Tonight?” she asked. “That’s pretty soon, but… Well, I guess there’s no use putting things off, I suppose. Do you have a place in mind?”
“Jason won’t go for anything fancy. There’s a diner on West 84th that he really likes. I could send you the directions?” he offered. He intentionally didn’t mention the threat of gossip rag reporters hanging around the higher end dining establishments of Gotham. He knew that this wasn’t Janet’s first rodeo, even if there was a baby on board this time.
And besides, Louie’s Diner was a great place to take kids.
“As long as they have chicken tenders or chicken nuggets,” Janet said. “Or fries. Tim isn’t usually picky, but sometimes…”
“It’ll be a lot going on for one day,” Bruce finished, correctly assuming the path of her thoughts. It was disheartening, but… “We don’t have to.”
“No, no,” she said thoughtfully, raising her arm to let Tim slide in under it. He plastered himself to her side and she looked down at him consideringly. “He’s in good spirits today. We can try for a nap at home and it’ll be fine. Will you nap for Mommy, Tim?”
Tim nodded against her hip and turned to bury his face against her. She pat his head consolingly.
“I’m not sleepy, but I’ll try,” Tim mumbled. “I want to meet Jason. And I want chicken nuggets.”
“They have chicken tenders,” Bruce said when Janet glanced at him in askance.
“Do they have honey mustard? It has to be the honey kind,” he dictated, peeking out a bit.
“I know they have mustard, but I don’t know if it’s the honey kind. Jason likes their barbecue sauce,” he offered. Tim’s face screwed up a little.
“That’ll do, I guess.”
Bruce mentally resolved to call ahead and ask. If they didn’t have honey mustard, he’d just text Janet and find out what Tim preferred and bring it himself.
Janet pursed her lips. It was a toss up whether she wanted to laugh or continue worrying. “We’ll plan on meeting tonight and I’ll let you know if anything changes, okay?”
“Sounds great,” Bruce agreed and reluctantly showed them out. Emma stopped the mother and son to ply Tim with more little candies. Feeling very normal, Bruce watched them as they departed.
