I...I really need some more cheater Mirio x Reader content. I just love the angst so much, it makes me tear up. And there is shockingly little content in that area!

cheater mirio is a fun idea because he doesn’t seem like the type at all!

he’s the high school sweetheart who kisses you good morning, who says ‘never go to sleep angry’, and who always makes sure you know you’re loved at the end of the day.

but high school sweethearts aren’t always perfect, really. as a pro-hero, steadily climbing the ranks, all eyes are on him and he’s never really minded, taking it as encouragement. despite his years of media training, one day they really try to press him about a failed rescue mission and suddenly the eyes aren’t so encouraging. they’re boring into him, cold and unnerving stares, and he trembles.

“you did what you could, you know that, honey.” the way his hands gently cup mirio’s face, the softness of his lips as he clears the space between them, has his head spinning. this time, mirio pulls him closer, keeping his eyes shut so as to pretend as though he isn’t betraying you in every way.

he pretends it’s you; the hushed voices, screaming desperation and secrecy, unfamiliar and new touches that set butterflies off— it reminds him of when you were just nervous teenagers. mirio misses then, he misses the him from then because the mirio from then would have never let some silly tabloid make him feel so miserable. mirio would go up to your dorm and spin you around by your hands, and when you were about to complain— ‘dizzy, mirio!’— he’d pull you into a tight embrace and rest his cheek against the side of your head.

the absolute worst part of an unfaithful mirio is the unimaginable guilt that he inadvertently pushes onto you.

mirio overcompensates when he’s feels guilty.

you’ve loved mirio long enough to understand him, and underneath the morning notes he leaves— something he hasn’t done since his first year working as an official pro, when he felt most insecure about your relationship.

“i thought… this would make up for it,” mirio laughed, quiet, taking the pile of notes from you and skimming through them. “i wish i was here more.”

it causes you to spiral the more he falsely accepts your comfort, smiling and kissing his way out of explaining himself. it’s torture for both of you, because the more you push, the further into the corner he hides, and the more the rift grows.

he’ll never look you in the eyes and admit it.
