sometimes you black out and just an entire Persona 5 AU in one night
did I ever settle on a design for phantom thief! Siffrin? no. anyway,
NOT fully mirroring the P5 plot!! it's a bit different! a few were hit with the obligatory anime teenager beam
Siffrin gets arrested for allegedly attacking someone with a knife! this did not happen. while trying to help someone, he in fact got knifed in the face and lost an eye.
the adoption system is about to drop their ass since they're nearly an adult and no one's too happy about the aggravated assault. fate drops him at Nille's doorstep, who takes pity on him but insists she's only housing his ass for some extra cash. Bonnie acquires another felon a sibling!
showing up to school looking like shit (anxiety, no sleep), with an eyepatch and a natural silent intensity, no one really questions if he's stabbed someone. everyone's pretty sure he's killed someone actually.
Mira and Isa are charged with helping the new local mass murderer get settled, and they slowly start to uncover the real Siffrin hiding under all that apprehension. Odile, the school nurse, is all kinds of queer so she's got these kids' backs. as the story progresses, they each have their own character arc around biting back on authority (Isa gets the courage to transition, and Mira stops straightening her hair)
what about everyone else's outfits? that's the fun part! SIFFRIN IS DOING ALL THIS PHANTOM THIEF SHIT ALONE
well not totally alone. they've got a weird cat now. they can talk (Siffrin wishes they didn't) and has a concerning amount of knowledge about the metaverse for being an amnesiac! (this worries them too, they just try not to show it)
the OTHER fun part is that Siffrin is doing half this phantom thief stuff in the metaverse, half in the real world. good news is, he has the magic metaverse stuff irl! bad news is he has the magic metaverse stuff irl. yeah it helps keep him from getting caught, but law enforcement starts rising quickly to military arms when you start breaking physics while also being a theater kid about it.
the meat of the plot is surrounding Siffrin's struggle to fit two lives into one, and how his friends are WAY too perceptive to keep this up forever. but they have to, because they've only barely convinced their friends to accept them. if they knew he was some evil freaky magic terrorist (he's not, but like, who would believe him when he's doing seemingly evil freaky magic terrorist things!), they'd turn him in, they'd be scared, they'd HATE him!!
btw there is no rival for Siffrin. he's his own rival. lets give the "I'm terrified I'm manipulating my friends" twink actual mind alteration powers and see what happens :))
#isat#in stars and time#isat au#siffrin#odile#mirabelle#isabeau#loop#while brainstorming this in the server I was trying to match roles to characters and was like#u know what would be funny. if akechi was just There#no other canon P5 characters. no explanation#no plot relevance either#he's just the poor bastard that keeps seeing Siffrin banana himself to go to the shadow realm#also no there's. not really any personas. just magic ig#zilly art

I’m SO sick of seeing a female character who expresses zero desire to have a family throughout the whole show she’s in be handed a child at the last minute, and we’re expected to believe this is something she has always wanted. Fuck off with that. Nothing wrong with having characters who desire to be mothers, obviously, but at least give us something to show that this is a character trait instead of throwing a child in as a twist end and then acting as if she always wanted this and it’s a fulfilment of her dreams or whatever. As if just sticking a woman with a child is a satisfying conclusion to her story. Sick of it.
#sorry I’m pissed#it feels extra bad for this to happen to a woc#with bix I could shrug it off a little bit. even though it rubbed me the wrong way#but with belinda it is SO out of nowhere. a complete 180 of her character#like WHAT WAS THE REASON!!#I thought we’d at least learn poppy was susan’s mother or something. so there’d be like wider plot relevance at least??#wouldn’t have been great still but. yeah. nope here have a child#doctor who#dw negativity#dw spoilers#belinda chandra

SQQ: Hey.
SQH: Hey.
SQQ: How's your blorbo?
SQH: ...did you just call my husband a blorbo?
SQQ: Is he not your most precious of blorbos? You married him!
SQH: *huffs* How's your blorbo husband?
SQQ: Pff...Binghe's the main character he can't be a blorbo.
SQH: Yes he can!
SQQ: Eh...I guess technically. I always associate blorbos with side characters.
SQH: *scandalized gasp* Bro!
SQQ: If anyone's my blorbo it's probably Liu Qingge. Binghe's too important and plot relevant to be a blorbo.
SQH: *even more dramatic gasp* You're so mean!
*Five minutes later after SQH has stormed off to find and hug Mobei Jun*
MBJ: ?
SQH: You're special and important and plot relevant and don't you let anyone tell you otherwise!
MBJ: ...K.
#LBH: Shizun am I plot relevant? SQQ: Uh huh *pats head*#moshang#bingqiu#svsss#SQQ has to release his inner sass sometimes or he'll explode#SQQ is wrong btw blorbos can absolutely be main characters

The thing is I don't believe Miles Edgeworth would ever say "I love you" to Nick, and I don't think he would reach out to hold him. But I do think the moment he hears about what's going on with Trucy he would show up at Nick's door with a stack of documentation on adoption and sit down with him for hours as they wade through the legal process to gain custody. One step at a time, you are not alone in this, we'll figure this out together. Acts of service my beloved... Let me ease your burden by taking it on. I love you and want you to be well.
#I know he would do the absolute most. He wasn't the youngest lawyer ever for nothing#He hands over a 4 page double spaced document vouching for Nick's character to submit to the court#He gets out a tape measure to make sure Nick's spare room meets the legal size requirements to be considered a bedroom#After 6 hours he leaves Nick with a 38 step plan and a scheduled court date#I JUST THINK A LOT ABOUT how Miles was adopted as a kid and now Trucy is being adopted too at the same age#I think Miles would care fiercely about her getting the parental love and support he never got simply because she reminds him of him#girl who loves miles edgeworth “hmm i bet i could make this unrelated plot point relevant to miles edgeworth”#ace attorney#narumitsu#miles edgeworth#phoenix wright

I return with some fun, low-effort Murder Drones doodles because that's the only thing I have the time and energy for right now (turns out moving to another state to escape day job hell and also the transphobia is A Very Involved Process).
Speaking of moving and other life changes, I have a Patreon and Ko-fi now, for those of you who like what I do and want me to be able to do more of it faster.
My apologies to anyone who's actually fluent in Russian, because I am very much not and I sincerely hope google translate didn't screw me over.
Close-ups under the cut (click for best viewing):

Why I Think Chloe is a Skilled CQC Fighter:
So, I wanted to cover in slightly more detail why I tend to think that Chloe is a genuinely skilled fighter and why I feel it is supported by at least the first three seasons of canon materials in MLB.
1: As Anti Bug, Chloe was able to combat, match and then quickly overcome Adrien in closed quarters combat. One could claim this was him holding back due to friendship but that'd be even more of a HC and he looks pretty comfy.
One could claim it was just because he needed to be in peril for the story but the fact is that still means he lost the fight.
2: In Maledikator Chloe demonstrated strong martial art based kick forms, which by itself is fairly minor but these things add up.
3: During Heroes Day, Chloe does demonstrably better than the other two reserve heroes and is even able to cover for them wen they are unable to fight.
She also l lasts even after they begin turning and needed to be ambushed to be removed from the fight.
4: During Miracular, Chloe has a one on one fight with Mayura in which she does very well and given Mayura is one of the top fighters in the setting I feel that says a lot.
5: This is also where she expressly demonstrated Street Savate style martial arts moves which no other character does. This indicates its a Chloe thing not a Miraculous user thing.
6: This last bit is more of a HC than the above, but it does feel worth keeping in mind both Adrien & Felix were expected to learn a martial art. So it seems like this may well have been normalized among them and so would not be particularly unusual.
Conclusion: Ultimately, Chloe shows herself to be very good fighter.
What's more, she does so with enough frequency and in unique enough circumstances and ways that it does not feel like animators just being careless or having fun. Otherwise we'd see more of this from others. The fact that Chloe stands out here is notable and as whether one takes her as knowing a specific martial art or not is besides the point that Chloe is evidently very tasty in a fight.
#cmlb fandom#miraculous ladybug#chloe bourgeois#analysis#Jock!Chloe#If characters demonstrate a skill enough times in a plot important way I am fine with just assuming they have that skill#I don't feel the need for the author a show bible; or the character to give me backstory or confirmation on it#If they show it & its plot relevant & its frequent its there.

AND another thing. because it HAS NOT left me alone for the past 3 weeks and if i must scream into the void about it then So Be It absolutely none of you are overlooking this rincewind characterization on my watch.
because the thing is. say, all of thirty pages into the light fantastic, we get some trymon characterization. some early, establishing characterization. setting up this guy. the main antagonist, the other primary viewpoint character of this book (insofar as it can be said to have either of those things, given the style of narration). this guy. who is cold, selfish, ruthless, and obsessed with things like 。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆ efficiency 。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆. and. he’s bad at languages.
“He wasn’t very good at languages, he’d always found them highly inefficient things which by rights ought to be replaced by some sort of easily understood numerical system,”
and then we smashcut immediately to rincewind:
“Rincewind had a very good ear for languages.”
and yes, yes i will stand here and argue that this is in fact an EXTREMELY plot-relevant character detail, beyond the fact that it DOES have utility in the scene at hand. all joking aside about rincewind can scream for help in 47 languages, or however the line goes. i’m just.
points to this frantically.
rincewind, whose one EXTREMELY NOTABLE CANONICAL TALENT, is languages. who is being actively and immediately contrasted with trymon. this HAS been stuck in my head for three weeks but i opened my book to make this post and actually these scenes are LITERALLY back-to-back. these character descriptions are. immediately. directly juxtaposed to one another. and i want to say something about how this description of rincewind comes up because this is a skill he is actively using in the scene in question, that does give him insight into the world and does, perhaps even more importantly, allow him to connect with the gnome in this particular scene in a way that is helpful to him and twoflower, yes, but just. actually the only way i need to explain it is this:
we are told who trymon is, and that he is bad at languages.
we are told that rincewind is good at languages.
and, actually, without further elaboration, that says a whole fucking lot about who rincewind is.
#YOU CANNOT GET THESE CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS PAST ME#I CAME HERE FROM THE SILM FANDOM#I CAME HERE FROM TOLKIEN. WHERE THE LINGUISTICS ARE EXTREMELY PLOT AND CHARACTER RELEVANT#PRATCHETT IS NOT SLICK FOR HANDING ME A LINGUIST#AND THAT CONTRAST DID NOT GET PAST ME#ROLLING UP MY SLEEVES AND DIGGING IN#IF I HAVE TO DO ALL THE RINCEWIND POSTING MYSELF THEN SO BE IT.#CANONICAL LINGUIST RINCEWIND LIVES RENTFREE IN MY HEAD AND IT WILL IN YOURS TOO IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT#discworld#the paranoid android speaks!

You know not to be nitpicky about the ch2 era(or dive into the discourse) but i think its kinda funny that despite having the gals be like main center pieces which a lot of things revolve around , pre ch3/4 (and even now tbh) you would see more discussion about dess than about Noelle. And like valid I also think about her a lot but it does feel like wanting to engage with a character that's not even here yet so ppl can project their fantasies onto than engage with the pre existing very plot relevant female character in a way that isnt thinking about how the snowgrave will ruin her. If you can write 500 think pieces on Mike fanfiction you can think about noelle more trust. Also nevermind the fact that before the new chapters the broad fandom had quite literally written Susie off as like unimportant which ??? People being surprised susie has PLOT (or than suselle actually gets development) are my villain origin story smh. Pissed me off SO bad and they were so serious about it too. Like bruh. The toxic funny yaoi men are great and I also would die for tenna but let's not forget who the game is about this time
#Did people he/him-ing the knight despite the fact that the 2 more prevelant theories atm are both female characters did this ?-#Or was it the reminder of the discourse I saw about Susie not being important after ch1 like... I will kill you#AS IF RALSEI DID SHIT IN CH2??? THAT WAS ALL ABOUT NOELLE ??? (And kinda birdley)#Like nobody was over here writing takes that ralsei peaked and will never do anything plot relevant bad as some of this theories were#Smh you just know if susie was a male character we would not be having this convo#Glad the lesbians are thriving despite it all#Kinda salty oops#deltarune#deltarune spoilers#deltarune chapter 4 spoilers#noelle holiday#susie deltarune#Villain origin story : people forgetting deltarune has 4 main characters#Suselle#Too in spirit#deltarune chapter 3#deltarune chapter four

Maybe the problem with Christian fiction is that it's non-denominational. People are just "Christian", with no effort put into showing what practicing that religion looks like for them specifically. No indication that there are other Christians who could have different beliefs. No wrestling with differing ideas and the struggle of how one should live out their Christian faith. And that makes it unrealistic and unrelatable.
#me reading any christian historical fiction set in england: why are none of these gentry anglican??#they ARE all anglican and if they are not it is extremely plot and character relevant you can't just have them using evangelical buzzwords#but i'm also thinking of this because i started another charlotte yonge book#that is by far my favorite of the things of hers that i've read#because it has characters who have different upbringings and religious opinions#instead of just 'here's a bunch of high church anglicans judging people who don't live up to their victorian standard'#you have the very high church anglican rector whose wife is worldly but still a very good person#the girl raised in a very strict protestant family who is more scrupulous than the anglicans but is still recognized as a good person#you have people who are trying to work out the nuances of different issues#and that makes it so much more realistic and so much easier to integrate into the story#(the politics though are hilarious)#(most of the classics that survive are the ones that were 'ahead of their time' in politics)#(so it's equally fascinating and refreshing and a bit infuriating to see one that is very very of its time with regards to women's rights)#('why did this woman get up at the meeting and explain her very good ideas for rebuilding after the fire? she should have had a man do it')#(meanwhile i'm just screaming 'why on earth SHOULDN'T she???')#(it's almost enough to make a feminist of me)

The Medarda arc of s2 struggled to be good, because the plot viciously smothered it. You can argue that Arcane was never about politics but you cannot say the Medardas were never explicitly a family defined by politics. So when the show shifted it's priorities from a drama steeped in political conflict where even though the setting was fantastical the stakes were grounded to a shift where magic is the end all be all threat to humanity, the Medardas are rendered largely irrelevant.
In s2 Mel's agency over her own story is both largely stripped from her and poorly communicated. Arcane has Mel abducted from the plot to be the Black Rose's captive. Even when Mel manages to free herself it's not through the traits the audience understands are her strengths, her cunning and social intelligence, it's through an innate instinct that natural to her and indecipherable to the audience.
Ambessa as a character is more or less a villain of convenience, which would be fine if she wasn't immediately following Silco's act. Once Mel is removed from the story Ambessa is largely disconnected from any emotional tension fuels conflict between the characters and previously drove the plot in s1. She's there to play the worse bad guy for Caitlyn and then give Viktor the man power for the Glorious Evolution.
It's frustrating to see the Medardas used the way they are in s2 because when they're together I can see how it could be good. When they're together Mel forces emotion out of Ambessa. In Act 1, Ambessa proved she could do circles around Piltover's court, which could actually put Mel in a tight spot.
Their final scene on paper sounds like a good idea where the true resolution to Mel and Ambessa's story was that Ambessa saw Mel's own ruthless behavior as she not only betrayed Ambessa to the Black Rose, but used her as BAIT to double cross LeBlanc. Ambessa died proud that her daughter killed her the way she did, and that's so cool and tragic, but the execution was a flop.
One, their final fight is completely unimportant to the actual Glorious Evolution, Mel's grief can't even be a highlight because it's interrupted by Viktor's mind trap. Two, their fight didn't rely on any of Mel's actual strengths, just magic and the poorly explained MacGuffin LeBlanc gave her. How did Mel even know it would do that?
It's like the writers had the bones for a great story for the Medardas, but then they're like the world's worst archeologists and fit those bones together in the worst way possible because they were convinced the bones made a stegasaurus instead of a T-rex or something.
#the black rose also doesn't really do anything except kidnap Mel#they know there's an end of the world level problem but they just sit on it for no real reason#arcane critical#mel medarda#ambessa medarda#s2's priorities are mostly incompatible with the kind of characters the medardas were set up as in s1#and frankly didn't want to engage with what made them special#personally i think it's connected to how the showrunners were suprised at Silco's popularity bcuz the stuff that makes silco interesting#is the same stuff that makes mel and ambessa interesting#which is what makes it worse bcuz the blueprint was there for the medardas to shine in s2#but the plot literally ran away from them so they're both largely devices in other people's stories mel less so#you could edit mel out of the last episode and nothing would change in the end#that's how irrelevant she was to the story#actually you could do that to ambessa too they're just there to pad out the numbers to include noxian soldiers#why did mel need to be stuck in the occulorum for the black rose arc to function#they could have easily had more agents in piltover like they did with amara#and they try to ingratiate themselves with her as ambessa further alienates her o#position of power in piltover and mel doesn’t know who to trust except herself and accepts that her methods were always#as ruthless as her mother's wothout any direct bloodshed#or something like that I'm just spitballing#did anyone else notice mel and ambessa didn’t get a songle song durong the show#no blood sweat and tears doesn’t count bcuz it wasn't in the actual show#compare Ambessa's death to Silco's or even Cassandra's who had more weight and time given to it?#it's just above Heimerdinger's own “death”#that's how relevant the Medardas are to this story they're heimerdinger level

interesting how often jake uses brain ghost dirk to self-sabotage in one way or another - initially it's jake continuing to stubbornly and repeatedly make an ass of himself, but later in a much more serious context BGD thwarts aranea's plans for god tier jake. and not by protecting him, even if he is invoked as a protector and really actually trying to play that part - but by impeding aranea and causing jake's power-up to falter enough to be vulnerable to a crockertier forking. what the hell. why are they like that. poking them.
