Mark Cote Info Reveal- Silvermist's Quest

(Long Post Warning)

Me and a few friends are doing our own searches for information on the elusive Tinker Bell draft. We were able to secure an interview with Mark Cote, who was on the film for both a 2d and 3d version. Unfortunately, we were not able to save many recordings in good quality and mine has no audio. I also failed to transcribe our meeting, but hopefully this will not be our only meeting.

Before the original movie was put into 3D, it had several character quests all linked to the narrative to save Neverland. I thought it would be like Disneytoon's failed Enchanted Tales series, but unlike Enchanted Tales or Cinderella 2 the segments wouldn't be so self contained. It was like the movie Fantasia, but connected through a larger plot. There would also be a ticking time bomb in the form of the worlds of the mainland and Neverland combining due to the theft of pixie dust by Tinker Bell and friends before they earned it messing up the natural order. He told us that all 5 character quests would have to be approved by management, so he experienced delays in production. Several quests were greenlit but they had a hard time when they got to Silvermist and Iridessa.

We asked in a riddle, what brings water life? It took a while to get an answer, but @princessquinnella was reminded of water fairies in the books. The thing is though, Silvermist was conceived pretty differently from Rani. Despite being a water fairy, she was a repressive and pragmatic character. If you had a Disney Fairies DVD that came with the toys, you might remember the line "Still waters run deep" in reference to Silvermist. The pond and lotus where she lived, is implied to be "Stillwater Springs" or Lilypad Pond from what we know. x Here is the description from the illusive "pitch book"

Firstly, Mark told us for this "epic story" Silvermist's quest would be next to last. None of the fairies can fly because of the magic has dissipated. The story starts in her home of Stillwater Springs/Lilypad Pond, she creates a magical cloud named Tempest to fly. Tempest is an opposite to SIlvermist, he's a joyful and free spirited cloud like a impish child. Like in the final cut, there are 4 seasonal areas? There would be 5 themed areas in Pixie Hollow where each fairy lived. Many inanimate things live here in this word inspired by Art Nouveau.

She needs to fly on Tempest to reach the "water of life", and she travels to Pixie Hollow in a harsh desert area. She has a small glass vile to collect the "water of life" and flies over the stretch of desert looking everywhere. There's a color script of this segment somewhere on AODF (dont know where to link), where it is blurry and you can see the desert.

Silvermist and Tempest even meet other clouds on their journey, but they are grumpy and stern adult clouds.

Here, on the color guide- we see things a bit different. There seems to be some sort of snowdrop-esque flower in place of Tempest- but also some clouds, so I'm not sure what it could be.

Silvermist has been in the sky for a while now in this desert, but cannot find the water of life. Suddenly! Tempest, the child cloud starts to die. Silvermist is scared, because her friend is dying and she hasn't found the water of life. She sits down defeated... and starts to cry.

He showed us a piece I am very familiar with:

It is then, when she is at her lowest- when she cries... Tempest is resurected, and she is able to save her friend and collect the Water of Life, the quest item she needs to save Pixie Hollow.

Lastly, I should say the desert like areas in Pixie Hollow remind me of the elusive art from the mysterious artbook "The Art of Judith Holmes Clarke" (excuse quality, its a short frame in an IG video)

Now it's time for the next quest to reveal information about, there should be 2 left with more info to share with you...

since Tania is Metal Sonic, and canonically Sage, Orbot & Cubot, and Belle the Tinkerer are canoncially younger siblings to Metal Sonic. By that logic, Tania is their older sister (and by extension, Sonic is ALSO the eldest brother). How would the egg sibling react to that information?

Unrelated, but since sonic characters have their names be descriptive (such as Knuckles having sharp knuckle gloves, Tails being two-tailed, Espio as in espionage, etc.). Does that mean that Tania's name stands for TI-TANia (as in titanium) that foreshadows her robotization?

So, when Metal was unaware of their true existence while under Eggman’s control, they were never all that close to Orbot and Cubot for reasons they couldn’t explain themselves, but were much closer to Sage. They may not know the true reason why, but I think that Metal and Sage’s bond is tied into their sense of humanity. Metal doesn’t know that they were actually roboticized, and throughout the plot of Sonic Frontiers, Sage was kind of having a little bit of an identity crisis. Their key difference however that keeps their bond from growing too close is the sense of realness in their humanity. At the end of it all, Sage herself is truly one of Eggman’s creations, through and through. But Metal isn’t. So when it comes time for Metal to learn the truth, Sage stays by Eggman’s side. Although, even if she may not know exactly what Metal is going through, she lets them go. And who knows, maybe she’ll try to help them in the future. Regarding how Belle would play into the story, I like to believe that their first interaction in a long time is a while after Metal escaped. At this point, Tania is trying her best to heal, so although Belle may be a bit wary of them for a while because of their past interactions with Metal, she knows that this time something is different. I feel like their relationship could possibly grow into something sisterly. Metal was created by the evils of Dr. Eggman, Belle was created by the good nature of Dr. Tinker. I wonder if they could bond over that!

Regarding the name thing, that’s actually a really interesting take! Apparently, the name Tania is a shortened version of the name Tatiana or Titania, meaning fairy queen. I feel like the true meaning of her name combined with that concept of it being foreshadowing is really cool! Very good contrast between what she once was, careless and free, versus what she now has to be. Trapped.

7. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to play many g/t video games but I did recently get Smalland and have been enjoying the hell out of it! I do plan on making a post or two about it and my opinions and gripes with the game. The long and short of it is that it’s a good game but it also feels a little unfinished still (though I do believe there are a few more updates the devs want to make before moving onto other games so here’s hoping!)

8. As for G/T tropes… I am a sucker for forced proximity (like giant and tiny are stuck together for whatever reasons), as well as the tiny getting hurt and the giant has to help them even though the tiny would prefer they didn’t. Lastly I also adore tinies/giants who are just a little bit feral lol!

For the Post Memories Mr Tinker Au, does Belle know her dad used to be Eggman, or does she think "Oh, my dad just so happens to look like Eggman"?

Belle is fully aware of it! In the Post Memories AU, Mr. Tinker recovers all of his memories and tell his loved ones about it (His daughter and his romantic partner), feeling horribly now that everything is clear to him

But both, Angel and Belle, understand him and tell him that he's a different person now, that his past doesn't have to define what he does now. Of course, Tinker still struggles with all of the negative feelings that his past causes to him, same for Belle, who has a hard time coming into terms of what her dad used to be, but she's supportive with him so they can work on leaving that nightmare behind them for good

What would you say was your favorite movie to work on and why?

Hello Anonymous! Sorry it took me a while to respond, it took a while to find the exact photo I wanted…

I love every movie I work on, but Peter Pan has a special place in my heart. That was the movie that definitively launched my and André’s careers as fight choreographers. The fights were fun to design, and we had a blast working with the cast. Someday, I’ll have to share some of the shenanigans we were up to behind the camera—but I digress.

Probably the best part of working on movies is the friends we made along the way. Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and Jim Hook—sorry, Captain James Hook—are some of our closest friends to this day. We regularly get together for dinner and they’ve shared more adventures with us than I can count.

Ah, so many happy memories—but a few sad ones. I was young, immature, and insecure, and I did something behind the scenes that ruined my friendship with André for nearly a decade—something that ended up costing me an eye and the claws of my left hand…until I finally had the chance to make it right—and Peter and James and Tink were there to help me.

But those are stories for another time…

Curious about Zarina's life (and death) on the Isle? 👀

Hey anon!

So essentially it follows what happens in Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy but instead of realizing that James (aka Captain Hook) is bad news and staying away forever, she tries to see the good that she once saw in him. Essentially, she repeatedly ignored the red flags, convinced herself that he would change, and unfortunately wasn't able to see herself out of a toxic relationship with him.

When she heard about the Isle of the Lost and how all the villains would be resurrected and put under there, she begged the fairy queen, Queen Clarion, to turn her human so she could be with the man she loved. Though Queen Clarion is definitely the most level-headed of the Neverland fairies, push her too far, and she can be just as petty and/or vindictive as anyone. She was mad that King Adam wasn't listening to her about how negatively "retiring magic" would impact her faries. As a bit of an "eff you," she allowed Zarina's wish, which technically uses a lot of magic, and helped her sneak onto the Isle. Not much is known about what happened to Queen Clarion and the rest of the Neverland fairies, though. She and the rest of them just...disappeared...leaving Zarina as technically the only remaining Neverland fairy.

But again, Neverland fairies get so much of their magic and strength from the island, and even though Zarina looked like a human and wasn't able to access her magic on the Isle, at her core, she's still a fairy, so as the magic in Neverland seemed to be fading with Pan asleep and Tinker Bell sealed away, along with the less than stellar health conditions on the isle, she died soon after giving birth to CJ.

And if you're wondering, Hook treated Zarina as a side check at best, an annoying nuisance that he wasn't afraid to lay a hand on at worst when they were together on the Isle. As I said before, the Hook siblings have different mothers, so we know Hook wasn't faithful at all. There were a few times when Smee would try to convince her to get over his captain, but after her love for Hook almost nearly faded, Zarina only had pride left, and she couldn't let it seem like she was giving up on this man that she had given EVERYTHING for, so when she found out she was pregnant with CJ, for a moment, she thought Hook would change, but he didn't. He still wanted nothing to do with her. So Zarina wanted nothing to do with her child. She gave birth to CJ, did her the kindness of at least putting her in somewhat cleaning clothes, avoided the child-eating witches, and left her on the deck of the Jolly Roger before she soon after died, labor and a broken heart taking the final toll on her body. Harriet was the only one who saw Zarina leave CJ behind, and even at a young age she was so adamant that this left-behind baby was her sister.

And that's all I got! Again, I never planned to go too deep into Zarina's backstory. Just give a few hints for people who watched the Tinker Bell movies.

what are your thoughts on the disney fairies book? the original one by Gail Levine? a lot of people are saying it's racist cause theirs so many white fairies in the book which is based off the original peter pan and losers say it should be more black fairies and honestly as a black girl myself i wish these people would shut up. tinker bell is white with blonde hair and blue eyes not black. the tinker bell movie did sooo bad people forgot about it already, and people made fun of it.

disny has been ruining things much to the point it's hard separating the book from the movie...what ate your thoughts on this?

I’ve never actually read the Disney fairy books, but I’d direct your attention to my friend @doverstar, she knows much more about those than I do.

I have seen all of the Disney Tinker Bell fairy series…if those are the movies you mean? I actually really love the first one and can find charming things about the sequels, too.

As far as the books or movies being racist because a lot of fairies are white, that is silly. Just because there is a majority of a certain skin color in a movie, that alone does not make the movie racist; it doesn actually say anything about races.

Because, for example: If you go to Togo, Africa, and take inspiration from a town there, and try to tell a story about that town, all of the people you’re getting inspiration from will be black. Therefore, your characters will all probably be black. It just makes sense. So why would a story about a specific corner of the Neverland world need to have every single possible color of human on Planet Earth represented? That wouldn’t even make any sense; and it’s not needed at all. People of all skin colors can relate to anything that is human-like, especially in fiction. So there’s no need for everybody to look like somebody.

As far as the original Tink goes, in J.M. Barrie’s play, she was just a light. Nobody could see what “skin color” she had, because she was just a light. Because the color of her skin doesn’t matter at all—it shouldn’t matter to white people, it shouldn’t matter to black people, it shouldn’t matter to anybody. Her race has nothing to do with who she is; she’s a fairy, and she’s supposed to be hot-tempered, glow, sacrifice herself for Peter who she loves, and fly. These are the traits that matter.

So in the books, the movies, the new movies—it doesn’t matter if her skin color is different. Ask yourself, “is she hot-tempered? Does she glow? Can she fly? Is she in love with Peter Pan? Would she sacrifice for her friends?” As long as those questions—and those questions alone—are answered with “yes” then she’s Tinker Bell. And everyone should stop making it more complex than that!

Also for the comics I think Trainer and Co. Would be a great family for Belle to be apart of.

It was honestly heartbreaking for to see Belle struggle to find her place in the world because being made by Mr. Tinker who would later fall back into being Eggman and being villianized by all around her for who Belle's father is.

I think having Trainer there who is in esscene an outsider and there Pokemon there to help Belle find a new life would be great and give Belle a new family who is there for her.

Also with Rocket being there and asking what Eggman was like as Mr. Tinker would be interesting for the repaired robot to see a much happier and softer side to Eggman and wanting to better know another one of his siblings.

Belle really needs a family and Trainer and Co. will be right there to welcome Belle with open arms

Belle definitely would fit into Trainer's found family. There have been Pokemon characters who had villains for parents like Lillie and Gladion for example. So what if Eggman made Belle? That's doesn't determine who she is as a person.

Plus Belle would take Trainer's words to heart better since they're an outsider like her. Also my brain conjured the image of her being friends with a Magearna. Trainer is practically collecting sibling figures at this point.

Tinker Bell Programming-Programming makes alters think they are like Tinder Bell in that they will never grow up or age. (Peter Pan Programming) Type 2 Tinker Bell Programming-Due to her size she can only feel one feeling at a time. This can lead to this part being vindictive, jealous, or appearing happy with no balancing emotion. (Peter Pan Programming) Type 3 Tinker Bell Programming-Death programming, if the part leaves the group they will die. As they will be taught the group will ‘forget them.’ (Peter Pan Programming)

Peter Pan is a script used in programming. There are parts in the system that would be given tasks/jobs.

That is a great question, we had not fully formed a plan but it most likely would have included a third place round which we have not done for mini tournaments.

and maybe if second and third were not semi-final matches, we would do a poll for them?

Luckily when DF Tink lost, we didn't have to put any more brainpower to it!

“I absolutely LOVE romance novels,” Amy sighed, as if that was surprising.

“Fantasy has always been an interesting genre,” was Blaze’s response. “Funnily enough, some of them feel very similar to both my and Sonic’s world…”

“I get really invested into thrillers,” Lanolin said.

“I like books that talk about the history of our world,” Jewel answered.

“I’ve gotten into poetry as of late! It’s really inspiring,” said Rachel.

“Mmm, I don’t really have any favorites,” Jake sighed. “But if I had to pick a genre, I guess books with humor in them? I’m always down for a laugh.”
