sasuke has always loved the rain; it has always spoken to him in ways the cloudless blues of a sunstruck sky could never (but he’s certain naruto could have). he has always understood the thick rumble of a horizon line jagged with thunder; he has always appreciated the deep sorrow of each tiny raindrop, which together can form a torrent so large it has the power to drown out a whole village. because he understands sorrow — if nothing else.

and his whole life has been loss, hasn’t it? a constant and immutable stream of losing, of waking each morning wondering what else the world will take today, and going to sleep each night knowing the answer is — always more than you think.

he meets you on a rainy day.

outside a way station, beside a dirt road that seems to run parallel to the turning world, he catches you falling — actually falling, slipping on a patch of mud. his single arm bars across your chest, knocking the wind from you even as you wheeze, your nose nearly catching the drenched earth beneath you.

“careful,” he says, his voice soft as he helps you straighten again. and one glance at you tells him that you’re the furthest thing from a ninja a person could be: innocent. it shines through you like a beacon, beckons to him like a lighthouse on a deserted shore and he finds himself irrevocably drawn to you — a magnet to his compass rose, the moon’s pull to the tide’s endless flow.

“th-thanks! sorry…” you laugh, ducking your head into a short, awkward sort of bow as you straighten to peer up at him through your rain-slicked bangs. he fights the urge to look away.

“are you…”

sasuke bites back a wince for the words he knows will come, the curiosity, the realization, and then — inevitably — the accusation. he braces for it.

and…

“are you hungry?”

sasuke blinks.

you’re grinning up at him, not a single thread of apprehension in sight as you lace your fingers behind your back and motion towards the thin strip of forest path.

“my family owns a ramen place in the town just over this hill — i was running an errand, but i got caught in the rain — thank god you were here to save me!” your smile is bright, so bright and defiantly so against the gloom of the weather above you. the rain has yet to abate but sasuke thinks that he doesn’t mind. your smile is more than enough to shelter him from the storm.

“ah…” he doesn’t know what to say, because no one had ever trained him for this, not in the delicate dance of propriety, not in the precarious balance between casual jest and incrimination. he finds that he has no tools in his arsenal for this, but then —

“c’mon, my treat. it’s the least i can do for my savior!”

savior.

he savors that word, basks in the halcyon glow of his warmth, wishes he could sink his fingers into the heart of its brightness, tip it back into his mouth and swallow it whole. he wishes it was something that, someday, he might be truly deemed to be.

it is not as good as irchiraku’s. but then again, very few things are. though, you make up for it in your animated ramblings, in the way you introduce him to the sweet-faced woman behind the counter as you brush through the doorway of the tiny ramen shop, in the way you crouch down to scritch a fat orange cat behind the ears, stepping aside so he can offer his own hand for the cat to sniff and inspect.

the fat, orange cat levels him with a severe sort of gaze before it slumps back down and opens his mouth his great, big yawn.

“i think he likes you!”

sasuke can only nod, shaking his bangs out to cover his eyes, hiding behind that one last bastion of darkness as you lead him to a back table.

it is not as good as ichiraku’s… but he finds himself hesitant to leave all the same.

outside, the storm still brews, thick and angry just beyond the tops of those faraway trees.

“you should stay till the storm blows out — it’s dangerous to go wandering in this weather!”

sasuke almost laughs, because when was the last time someone had ever put him and danger in the same sentence without the implied causation? when was the last time someone had warned him of the danger, instead of warning of the danger of him?

he drinks his soup slowly, polishing off whole bowl with a soft exhale.

the sweet-faced woman smiles wide as she peers into his empty bowl.

“would you like seconds?”

sasuke sets down his chopsticks.

“please.”

it’s not as good as ichiraku’s but… it’s still the best ramen he’s had in years.

We're got a couple of assorted asks about quadrant dynamics here. Since they're all related, I'll answer them as a single post.

@galaxa-13 asked: I personally never saw Feferi being annoyed by Eridan talking about feelings with Karkat because he was only supposed to talk about them with her, but rather because he ONLY talked about them with Karkat. She had to do all the heavy lifting in their relationship by making sure he didn't commit genocide, and then didn't get to unwind with some romantic gossip. If my platonic boyfriend never talked to me, but did with others, I'd question him too. @lilietsblog asked: I never read Feferi as being jealous of Karkat in a violating relationship exclusivity / cheating on her way. I read it as a playful "why aren't you talking about stuff with me? is it because you've already talked it all out?" where Eridan was very much supposed to read between the lines and undersatnd that she just wanted him to tell her about his red crushes (awkward, that…) While I'm sure there are specific rituals trolls /only/ do with their moirails, my overall impression is that trolls normally just… don't form relationships close and trusting enough for emotional support like that. The quadrants help by making it semi-mandatory to find SOMEONE. (Also I'm actually sure that a healthy moirallegiance would be reciprocal with both partners pacifying each other, it's just the hemospectrum version of gender roles)

You may have a point. Eridan was clearly a poor moirail from the start - probably because he never actually wanted to be Feferi's moirail. To him, the quadrant was clearly just a stepping stone to matespritship, so he wasn't invested in its dynamics. Feferi's not really angry about Karkat, here - she's just a little frustrated about how one-sided their moirallegence has turned out to be.

That said, I do still believe that quadrants would work better if they were polyamorous - even if this particular scenario doesn't illustrate my point as well as I thought it did.

I still think the trolls would benefit from such a system, though. On Alternia, it simply wasn't to be - but the Alternian Players now have the chance to build an entirely new culture. Who knows what new dynamics they might discover?

See, I get what you're saying - but the difference, in my opinion, is that that Troll Will Smith was a one-panel joke, whereas the quadrant system has informed our understanding of troll relationships for the entirety of Act 5. Unlike Will, quadrants have stayed relevant, and they've been critical to understanding many of the Alternians' key character moments.

That's not to say that quadrants aren't partially a joke. Frankly, I don't think any of Homestuck is entirely serious - but I do think quadrants are 'real' in the context of the story, and should be analyzed as a legitimate part of its world.

I've always been a little skeptical about this whole 'biological drive' angle for the quadrants - mostly because there are plenty of human biological drives that are either overstated, misinterpreted, or outright fabricated.

That's not to say that the trolls don't have some sort of compulsion to seek out quadrants. If it does exist, though, I hope it slowly fades, now that the trolls have left their planet and its expectations behind.

Twilight Loves his Kids! (Goat kids. baby goats) - this kind of surprised me. This was my first fic in the "Who has Kids Again?" series, and I was nervous about posting it. Then I remember checking it an seeing that it had so many kudos and I was like WHAT.

The 'Wise Old Man' is actually not Old (Or Wise) - First time-centric fic of mine, I enjoyed writing it.

As Ancient as the Sky Itself - ugh. This fic...I don't really like this one at all, I took so long to finish it (barely), I honestly could NOT figure out how to end it....the fic ended up bleeding into the Four-centric one...askjdhksaljhf. no comment.

Four (Young) Mice - ASDKAHSFHSAJ THIS IS THE FOURTH ONE. I'M DEAD SERIOUS. this fact alone made me smile sadfhashdf well deserved. I love my four fics <3

Legend and the Baby Rabbits - my least creative title, but my proudest work. I loved writing this, it was so fun and reading everyone comments made my entire week!

5. Do you respond to comments? I used to be pretty diligent about it, but then I got busy over the holidays and just...stopped. There's so many unread comments in my inbox now...sigh. I still appreciate every single one! I love comments <3

6. Fic with the Angstiest Ending: Ooooo...the first and last chapter of my Febuwhump. First chapter is Malon hearing about Time's death, and the last chapter is Legend getting teleported to an alternate reality where Marin and his Uncle are alive, he can't stay and has to leave them, again.

7. Fic with the happiest ending: umm....er maybe...Number One Hero? Ravio is mistaken for Legend, and the town throws a party for him. Lots of fluff and brotherly bonding.

Do you get hate? ...i wouldn't call it hate, but I unfortunately am a panster and often I forget what I had planned, so details get jumbled and i update sporadically, so I've had like maybe one or two comments about that. FRIEREN!!

Finally got around to watching/reading Frieren:Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren/Frieren the Slayer). And It's so! Good!

Female protagonist!!! Without romance involved!! Thats so rare! (Yes I know Himmel is supposed to be her love interest but like he's dead! It's not a traditional romance!)

The character writing is done so well too! Sterotypical personalities but they aren't pushed into the sterotype? There's realistic character growth? They learn from their mistakes and change accordingly?

The action animation should not be this good for a Slice-Of-Life Fantasy anime. Stark's fight scene with the solar dragon looked so good!

Slowburn Romance between Stark and Fern. And it's not a priority! Its not romance for romance's sake! Its 2 individually realized characters with their own story arc that happen to fall in love, not a character and their one-dimensional love interest!

Stark! He's a 'coward' but he's not snively and annoying in the way most cowards are written. His fear is real! It makes sense in the context, and its also addressed and overcome!

Fern! That's it! Fern!

The way Frieren is portrayed is so good too ! She seems aloof and uncaring, but she's not. They've balanced the caring side of her with the part that doesn't really understand humans and their urgency and sense of time.

Himmel is shown to be so kind and helpful, but also shown to be quite vain, and caring about his image and how people will see and remember him. But that's never shown as a bad thing. But rather as something that just is. There are negatives (the waste of time when he's choosing a pose for his statue) but also positives (he says one of the reasons he makes sure there are so many statues of him is so that Frieren won't have to feel alone in the future).

The story is the embodiment of the phrase- The Journey is more important than the Destination. Sure they're going to Aureole in the present, and they went to slay the demon king in the past. But the big moments aren't really treated like that. It's the smaller moments- the character interactions - the errands and side quests that are elaborated on. There are practically no extreme fights at the start since Frieren is so OP. Low stakes most of the time - whether that me in action or the romance

Hieter and Eisen and how they love and care for their childeren and Frieren in the same regards.

It's not a life-changing or intese anime, but its quite relatable in the emotions. - the fear, the loss, the nostalgia, the happiness. The loss isn't seen as tragic however - it is as a natural part of life, is accepted and learned from. The only main thing that seems to be regretable is not getting to know your loved ones enough. And that's what the whole story is about. Frieren trying to undersatnd her former party members by recollectiong their adventures and also through experiencing new ones with Fern and Stark.

Wizerd, may I ask what you like about Miphlink?

I've been reading your fics and they're all really good, enjoyed each one without a doubt!

Okay so: CONFESSION.

I haven't been a Miphlink shipper for nearly as long as it feels like (to me) mostly because I just didn't ship BOTW Link with anyone for a long time. (I kind of saw him as aro (the projectorrr) but I won't go into that now bc I'll inevitably get sidetracked.) Just personality-wise, at least, I couldn't really get behind many ships with Link in them because it felt like half the point was that he was supposed to regain his since of self on his own. I also COMPLETELY ignored Mipha on my first playthrough. I'm pretty ashamed to say this seeing as she's one of my favourite ever characters but she was just so unnassuming in all the cutscenes I sort of missed her in comparison to all the other Champions, who have a much more obvious presence.

I only really started to understand Mipha when I started to write for her (thanks to Zora May if I recall correctly) and realised that there are a lot of things that are just so fun about her. Obviously there's the angst factor etc etc but what stuck out most is that she's just such a whole character if you know what I mean. She definitely understands her duty to her kingdom and her role in the Calamity, and doesn't take it lightly, but she's still full of so much joy and compassion and thoughtfulness.

I guess I started to ship miphlink because at some point I felt like it fit really well with both their characters. The very boring answer to why I enjoy the relationship is I think their characters compliment each other. There's the obvious symbolic stuff, like Link being a knight and Mipha being a healer, Link being rougher and Mipha being softer, but I think the main untapped canon part is that they would make a really good team.

I'm mostly just writing at the moment to further undersatnd the both of them so I'm not fully there yet, but at the moment I like writing the sweeter moments and little conversations. And the pining etc 😉 I hope to write some sort of battle sequence or adventure thing where they work together but I'm not exactly sure how I would write it yet.

In other people's work I really just like to see how they interperet the relationship! There's a lot of stuff I can miss so it's nice to have thoughts bestowed on me by someone else. Some takes I don't like but so far the miphlink community has done nothing but fuel my obsession.

Rin just walks with Kamo, suddenly feeling tired and wanted to lay down for a while. Everything happened too fast and it left him feeling more upset. As he was making his way, he sees two members stop him and Kamo. He was about to speak but heard Kamo say it first.

"Our friend needs to rest after your teammates' antics."

"..........."

Seeing the minions waited for Igarashi to say or agree, he just waves it off as the two guards moved to the side. Rin looks down but he heard Kamo speak.

"Sorry about this, Rin. I know we shouldn't be asking you to do this for us, given the situation. So I know exactly how you feel." Kamo tells him. However, he was looking down.

"It's..fine...I undersatnd.." he mutters looking down.

"........I understand but still-"

"Well, at least some weak morons know when to leave and stay out of the way. And here I thought the son of satan was stronger than this." Rin and Kamo heard Igarashi speak towards Rin who was annoyed.

Even Rin looks down not saying too much. "But..I guess it's said for him and that other little brat demon. Those two really should be stronger in this but I guess not...such a shame." he said with arms crossed. However, it leaves them silent.

"So yeah, please take the weak demon away..he is just in the way." He said with Rin's upper face darkened and hidden gripping his arm.

Everyone was silent from this but Kamo looks to Rioto knowing they will be sure that everything will be taken care of. However, they heard it's going to take time to even find the weak point. For now, this leaves them quiet. For now, this made Miko look worried hearing this.

She saw Shiemi worried about Rin who was looking down while not saying anything else. That was till he was feeling his body shaking slightly. That was till he tense hearing Kamo whispering to him that he looks to him. Kamo said nothing having a hand on his shoulder. Looking silent, he slowly nodding to get help with standing up from him as Kamo helps him get inside the room so he can rest.

Hypnovember in February Day 28

Set a timer for 28 minutes and let your unconscious mind write whatever it wants. Post the writing if it's not too personal.

Is it about poetry or isn't it? should i remember it or not? what are the rules that i must follow? i do better when i know what the rules are. good fences make good neighbors and good boundaries allow creativity to flourish. i think poetry in any form is a power exchange relationsjhip between the poet and the words/concepts/structure/ideas. it comes from a place inside of you but also it's dictated externally by forms and expecations.

for me poetry needs a rhythm to it, something that sets t obviously apart from regular speech. poetry is speaking in a dance step. and sometimes it's just the tiniest shuffle on sand, and sometimes it's restricted to a pre-ordained figure. and just like dancing if you can inhabit the form and make it look effortless than the people who don't dance themselves see what you've done and think to themselves "that looks easy, i'm sure I can do it too", and maybe they can. or maybe they can't but are so inspired to try that they work and work at it until they can.

i once accidentally insulted someone by saying that the things I wrote were like poetry and the things they wrote were like architecture, because i shoose to find freedom within form and function, while they try to create theyr own form and function, and to me it comes across as being artificial and constrained. i can't find the freedom in their words because their words scatter across landscapes and mental vistas in such a way that it's really hard from me to link one sentence or even sometimes one word to the next. their poems feel like planned communities to me, where all the houses are soulless because so much time has been spent on planning the neighborhood that the spirit of the individual is lost. i know that this implies that their poetry is very uniform and without variation, and if you asked them they would say it's not, but to me it's almost like having no pattern and no rhythm to it is their camoflage for actually exposing their own vulnerabliity. what is poetry for if not to rip away our self-mad shilelds and let the people we expose ourselves to be able to threaten us with their compoassion and undersatnding?

being vulnerable while creating things is necessary but also really hard. there are a lot of reasons that someone might want to hide themselves asway axcept for the part of them that they show through their art, whatvevr kind of art that might be. when you hear someone's words, words that they think expose so much of themselves, and the only way you can respond is to say this is confusing, or this doesn't speak to me, or i feel like you're making things for someone who is less like me and more like you, what is the point of that?

"Be more like me and less like you" is the root of so much confrlict in the world. i hate when art makes me feel like that is what the artist is sagying. and yes i know that art is about the artist sharing their pov and making a window into who they are as a person and letting other people see how their own personal expereinces have made them the kind of artist taht they are, but i think there is a difference between "i am showing you my differences in the hopes that we can find kinship" and "you have to be like me in order to undersatnd this thing i've done".

how does the absence of words affect your art if what you create depends on words? what does it mean when you can feel the words slipping away, being pulled out of you and onto a screen through a river that speeds them along and out of your mind?

what kind of poetry is that?does it still count as sharing something of yourself if the self that is doing the sharing has no recollection of doing it? the time and place from which the words come is now. the words before these words do not exist. only the words that happen in this moment are words at all and any pausing between words or sentences or paragraphs leads to silence.

Also saw that your favorite tropes are retellings. What specific ones are your favorite? I feel like a lot of tropes work well with sports anime etc. They're already so emotional.

Is haikyuu the only one you watch?

Also, do you ever feel like you write one trope too much? Do you worry about it feeling repetitive?

so it depends! i think in my mind "retellings" is like a myth or a fairy-tale or even a folktale retelling -- so song of achilles is a retelling of part of the iliad. becoming jane is a movie that tries to reimagine jane austen's life and her relationships with the people in it in an attempt to contextualize her inspiration for the novels she wrote.

i like fairy-tale/myth retellings specifically because chances are, the reader already knows how the story goes. right so -- cinderella retelling -- you know off the bat, main character's probably gonna have a shite lot in life, there will be at least one step parent involved and step siblings. a shoe or shoe-adjacent thing will be lost at some point in time.

so you have the advantage of writing a story knowing what your readers already know about the original fairy tale. and then. the fun is the actual details -- how does your retelling differ? does it attempt to turn some of the stereotypes on it's head? do the stepsisters actually rock? perhaps prince charming suCKS and is super vain and cinderella kicks off her shoe to throw him off her scent as she tries desperately to flee the palace?

i think the fun of retellings is the same kind of fun the poets of old had with traditional poetry forms -- you have a set of rules (rhyme schemes, meter, etc) but within those rules? the world is ur fucking oyster and the sky is ur clam.

in terms of TROPES in animes though -- i think found family is my cincher. like. fuck bro.

as to if i feel like i write one trope too much -- not really? my bf tells me that my "style" is pretty ubiquitous and he wants to see me try new styles, and i agree. i've settled into my writing style p comfortably and i like it the way it is.

Saturn aspecting Uranus - okay these guys are outcasted from society hard, due to some bullshit, but when they get recasted back into civilization they become someone who can change society at large- but its gonna take so much work... their perspective has been molded differently to most because they've been alone for so long. they have strange ideas that somehow work into tangible assets. perfect example : eminem - i mean hes basically best case scenario with this aspect, but hey why not try for best case scenario? but then again he made that hamster song... so i mean not always best case scenario... THats the price of neglect you could say lmao. Saturn aspecting Neptune - your imagination is your greatest challenge but also the key to your ultimate glory. like Michael Jordan had this aspect and well he was hella delusional. until he wasnt.... but its hard to say how much this benefited him... because both stages of his life - pre glory - and; glory - he was heavily isolated from everyone, and (likely) suffered in seclusion, by placing so much importance on his dreams. saturn wants you to master the 'spiritual world' i.e. imagination and dreams, and this causes anxiety that their dreams will just be dreams. which is what makes them put so much effort into it becoming real... then they realize the price of it all when its too late. so just make sure your aware of what your manifesting because if anyone can make it, its you. (achieving ur dreams) Saturn aspecting Pluto - how powerless do you feel. you do realize people can see how thirsty you are for respect/power, because they can sense your insecurity from past exepriences, and thats why your easy to play with. but do not worry. you will attain true power with enough effort. not just a bullshit image of power. because you've been pushed into the most vile trials to have ever have existed, and its only so that when you become someone powerful, you utilize your power properly, and do not step on others, because you know damn well how much it hurts to be stepped on. so your power is > saturn. your trials are so intense, and you're basically broken, but things that are broken know how to cut others (like broken glass). and well saturn wants you to master this > pluto > the darkness. and it makes reaching the top so much more palpable, because you'd feel like you earnt it. but you can make others insecure about what youve overcame so you better be humble, or saturn will fuck you. no honour among thieves, and we know you experienced that, but the kings play different, and you gotta adapt or saturn will flatten you.

I feel like that episode of 9-1-1 was 90% perfection. I honestly was 100% invested in both storylines and at no point was I wanting to see more of one than the other. I may be alone in this but I actually enjoy Billy a lot. I love that Grace could go through labor and still constantly put Billy in his place. She is a queen and Charlie has the 2 best parents a girl could ask for.

Ah Tarlos. Carlos I love you, you are probably the best partner a person can have but as an amazing as a gesture as it is, you can't go buying houses and putting  people names in it, and TK baby, you cant just run away when things get hard. Yeah Carlos went a little to big but you broke the poor guys heart instead of having the difficult converations. I honeslty believe that for Carlos money doesn't matter as long as they are togther so the break up would have broken him seeing he was thinking they where gonna spend the rest of thier lives together. He has every right to be mad.

My biggest problem with the episode blends into the problem with the show in general and that is to much happens off screen. Almost all of Grace's pregnancy, how the 126 split after Owen left. I want to see how they left one by one till it was just my girl Marjan fighting the good fight.

Watching Rafa kill these scenes was a treat (He is just so talented) but I feel kind of ripped off in this Tarlos storyline. We had them break up off screen, months of them apart off screen. I would have liked to see them both dealing with not being together as much as it would hurt to watch. Then we see how hurt Carlos is with the break up and the anger he holds. Then TK wakes up and we time skip again to seeing them back together and happy. I would kill to see that path back to being a couple because I think there is a story of TK getting Carlos's trust and forgiveness and for Carlos to underatand where he went wrong. (Also kind of want to see Andrea give TK a piece of her mind, tough love) I kind of felt like this whole storyline outside of this single episode really showed no growth for TK or Carlos. The reason for the break up deserved more time to be explored.

Then we jump to the 126 being completly rebuilt and back together. Tim said he likes to show the road back to being togther but as far as I can tell 90% of that road was all of screen and in time jumps, we missed a lot of opportunity to see these characthers journeys. I may be alone in this but I dont undersatnd why they feel they have to run in current time just because you go on hiatus doesnt mean you need to time jump with the time that has passed. It feels like we have never spent any real time with these charcathers without weeks passing between episodes.

I know it seems like I only have negatives to say but I do love this show and this was a great, amazing episode just the last few minutes disappointed me.

It really gave me hope for things tbh, bc I have very little knowledge on how studios and hollywood work so not understanding this stuff has been kind of stressful and leaving a lot of unknowns and uncertainties for me. So again THANK YOU!!! A few more questions tho for you 😅. If Lindsey did sign a 6 year contract, if she decided she didn’t want to return for some reason, is she in violation of her contract and if so what are the penatlies of that?? Like would the network just let her out of her contract w/ out consequence if that were the case or no?? I guess what I’m asking is like if Lindsey HAS to come back to Walker at some point whether she wants to or not?? That person on twitter made it seem like she HAD to in some capacity regardless if she decided she wanted to or not. Of course I don’t think things would play out like that or that it’s necessarily the dynamic of things for her, but I’m just trying to understand how these tv contracts work. Like I’ve heard of some cases where people did want out of their contracts but couldn’t get out of them and I’m just trying to undersatnd if anything w/ that could ever be at play here for her. What can be the consequences for that?

It depends on the agreement between her and the producers when they let Lindsey out of her contract.  Producers usually require actors to return at least once as a guest star to wrap up their arc as part of the agreement for breaking the contract.  If the producers and the wayward actor did not get along, then yes the producers can hit them with penalties for contract violations, but that rarely happens.  They don't even punish actors for violating their contracts during the second or third season when they demand contract re-negotiation, other than occasionally publicly calling their bluffs.  Producers would rather forget the legalities and go straight to blacklisting the actor behind the scene.

Jared was one of those people who wanted out of his contract after S3 in SPN, but of course he couldn't leave because he's the lead playing the protagonist.  While Lindsey is the co-lead (like Jensen was in SPN), Micki is not the protagonist so it's easier to let Lindsey out of her contract, especially this early before the general audience become totally invested in her.

I'm in the camp that the acting bug never leaves you so I have a hard time believing Lindsey would never want to return to Walker to at least wrap up her character's arc and prove that she is a reliable actor who is not a risk to future producers for disrupting production.  We saw how people like Richard Speight fought hard to have their character return to $upernatural despite having a steady income in the convention circuit and the director's chair.  Rumor has it that Wil Wheaton wanted a guest role on SPN because the set environment was a good place to work because Jared (X) (X), along with Jensen, set the tone.  By all accounts, Jared carried the positive work environment to Walker.

Yeah it's a little disconcerting to see Cordell and Trey without Micki.  She was firm but very supportive of her men.  Having Stella and August no longer act out their rebellious angst helped soften Micki's absence.  During Cordell's struggle as a newly single father in S1, Micki was there to guide or support him whenever Stella disappeared on him or August appeared at his undercover ops.   I think Cordell's kids nearly got him killed twice in S1.  I don't know why I find that funny.

What do you think of the relationship between Babs and Helena in Pre52? Actually I love them both, but I feel that some stories were deliberately expanding their contradictions.

So I think there are two especially interesting bits, one is re: killing.

It should be noted Babs is consistently portrayed as having a problem with Helena's approach to crime fighting (that is, that it's okay to kill people who deserve it from helena's POV). We see this way back in birds of prey: manhunt #1, where Barbara says she doesn’t work with “That” kind of vigilante (that kind of vigilante being the kind who purposely get blood on their hands in the name of justice).

also note the purposely clarification. It seems like if someone accidentally killed hte person they were fighting (and barbara genuinely believed it was an accident) she wouldn’t consider it a big deal.

We also know... WRT Killing, Barbara is kind of hypocritical in this regards, which I think makes sense for her character development at the time she contemplated killing.

I was looking through some Joker’s Last Laugh aftermath, to see if she didn’t think Dick intentionally killed the Joker (she was extremely undersatnding of him killing Joker, which HE didn’t like because he blamed himself), but... I’m not actually sure she did think it was an accident.

(also, something I think that was not touched on at all, was Barbara’s time with Suicide Squad, where killing people was pretty accepted (though some members like Bronze Tiger/Ben chose not to). It’s a shame that there’s no canonical continuity explaining how she goes from working with suicide squad to being more anti-killing, but I guess at the end of suicide squad the characters were fairly disillusioned with the mission and IIRC Amanda waller had them specifically act against the US government it was like after a long stream of unethical missions they had enough and she said it was the last mission the squad would do)

But anyway besides that there are otehr contexts barbara is portrayed as feeling like the necessity outweights the cost wrt killing

one is when she feels someone is in danger and the ONLY way to save them is via lethal force She gives Huntress authorization to use lethal force to rescue tim in joker’s last laugh (link) and before huntress showed up, she was GOING to shoot someone with a sniper rifle in no man’s land to save the people who were being attacked by a mob.

The other case I count as different because it is treated different by her, which is not too long after she becomes disabled, she is treated as being willing to kill someone (and intentionally leading them into a trap to kill them, rather than it being a last resort) to avoid being a victim again. (link) In this case, it has less to do with necessity but more to do with fear and wanting to prevent her agency from being stripped from her again.

anyway so that’s one aspect... the lethal force hting they are portrayed as not seeing eye-to-eye on.

The other thing is just that Barbara is objectively kind of bad with people in birds of prey (which is part of why I love her). She manipulates huntress to try to get her to stop her from killing people and it works -- but huntress understandably feels extremely betrayed and leaves the team. Their relationship would not be the same (and  it would be worse writing and worse for both of their development) if huntress had just forgiven her immediately. Because barbara DID mess up and it wasn’t an “oopsie” thing that just happened once... she intentionally chose to go about it this way and to treat Helena like a mission rather than a peer. and the fact that barbara is forced to acknowledge she messed up rather than sweeping it under the rug makes their relationship more interesting and stronger

it’s also interesting that huntress goes off on her own, but DOESNT go back to killing. she instead tries to work on things the way that she thought Oracle was working on them and gets good intel. and then she’s like “Maybe there’s a reason oracle is the way she is”

I think it was really interesting how much they can rub each other wrong yet also understand each other... i love them.

I have been thinking for years about it and I’m going to share it. I think we talked about it in a way, mentiuoning it in other comments and posts, but I after s6 it’s became clearer. 

Hope and compassion for all - is the main theme of Supergirl, repeated in all seasons, probably like 20 times if not more. Kara is the Paragon of Hope (btw, it always makes me laugh, because ‘paragon’ in Polish means ‘receipt’, so it’s like pray to Kara so your paragon won’t be high, but whatever) and made gazillion erm, inspiring speeches about it and yet, it’s teh shittiest and most hypocritical part of the show.

Because the hope, help and compassion for ALL are for the superfriends or their friends. And well, for the good guys. And Usamericans. The rest can basically, go to hell.

There is not ALL in it. And never was.

Because that all should goes for example, for Lex, Lockwood, Nyxly, Edge, Rhea, Mr Alienphobe President and any other asshole of the series. For example the security guy who was doing his job for not allowing Kara entering the event she was not invented and ended with broken arm and what was cheered becasue girl power. 

I get why Lex, as a notorious murderer and threat that can’t change for better, simply deserve to rot in Phanton Zone and that’s simply obvious.

But then we have Lockwood and Lobotomizer.

Lockwood started as a normal guy, the thing that pushed him into becoming the Agent Liberty were circumstances such as losing factory, losing father, losing his house and watching his family being in danger and meeting wrong people. Remember how got hurt by the panicking alien and Deo came and Alex treated him like an alienphobe, assuming he was among the humans who attacked the alien?

The point is, I see a logic in his path of becoming a villain and he deserved what he got in the end aka rotting in hell, that’s justice. His actions were wrong. I can understand why he became like that, still murderer. 

But. Not a single character, not Kara, not Alex, not Lena (who ignored his father’s financial probelms and simply treated them as liability, but sure she went for a funeral and was hurt because he told her to fuck off) - no one showed him compassion, tried to understand, tried to help and show him there is hope. No one. I guess because he was a white dude and that’s the perfect storyline for white dudes in Supergirl’s narration?

Just compare his story to Manchester Black. I don’t remember the shit, but I’m pretty sure J’onn tried to understand him and Kara was not so against him.

Because, I guess, he was INVITED FOR CHRISTMAS SO THEY WERE FRIENDS UWU.

And there, we have Lobotomizer. Who violated every human right you can imagine, broke law more times I can count and hurt Kara *copy/paste here every argument against her* and yet, every time she got compassion, help, undersatnding and hope. Multiple times. Before she tortured Kara and after. Her EVERY shitty idea and horrible deed she did was excused and showed in a good light and in the end she didn’t pay consequecnes for her actions. Because you know, hope, help and compassion for all.

All means Superfriends’ friends. Who are also white privileged wealthy bitch, I guess?

And I absolutely get that you have double standards for people you like and are friends with. I get you help your friends and cover their shit, but that’s not for what Supergirl and Co should stand for. Not when they claim it’s for ALL.

And don’t even let me start like seriously Kara is Usamerican and stands for everything what is Usamerican. I get it too. But once again, hope, help and compassion are universal and the show clearly claimed they are not. I get it was Usamerican show,. made for Usamerican audience but for me, agian, being a hero is also universal. And what we got were Usamerican perfect girl and her Usamerican friends (sorry, Usamerican people who read it, but I hope you get my point). It was all too clear in s4 and the horrible crap that was Red Daughter’s storyline. 

I just don’t get at all what the showed tried to tell or teach us. They contradicted themsleves in so many things and I don’t see the whole picture. 

Hope, help and ocmpassion for people we choose. White privileged bitches who are our friends are ok, even when they do shit. Fuck white males, even if we are the reason their lives went to hell. Sisterhood is amazing even when toxic shit happened and it all is ignored. Girlpower means breaking security dudes arms when  they do their jobs. You can magically heal alcoholism by not talking about it. Breaking law is ok as long as you wanted to do good and feel bad about it. Blinded by feelings is an excuse for tortures and brainwashing. No one needs therapy. True friendship is torturing your friends and hurting them. You can’t keep secrets from your friends.  Scientists don’t need to being keep in check and can do whatever they want. Being an idiot is ok.Doing things you don’t like is ok as long as you are successful. Protecting your beloved people and family while keeping secrets is wrong, just tell the shit to whole world. Taking off your glasses can fix all your problems. 

Whatever.
