Open Camera App

A follow-up to this post from last night.

In my reblog I said I'd installed the app, so I went out today with both cameras and did a test shot.

The subject is firethorn blossom in our hedge, time 18:34 / 6.34PM, sky almost-cloudless blue, lighting optimal.

First, a Nokia G21 (released February 2022): here's a shot with its native camera app, and a crop for close-up detail.

Here's a shot with the Open Camera app with installation-default settings, and a crop.

IMO, Open Camera makes a serious improvement.

Now an HTC U11+ (November 2017). I bought this older phone last year, old stock NIB, just for the sake of its camera, after seeing the quality pix @dduane was getting from hers.

First, the native app and a crop.

Next, Open Camera at installation default settings, and a crop.

It looks to me as if Open Camera works best when installed in a phonecam whose native app runs excessive image processing as a matter of course.

The Nokia pics are a case in point, while the HTC, a far better native camera app (and I suspect a far better camera full stop) shows much less improvement.

Now I get to find out what happens with Open Camera in the HTC once I start tweaking settings. That, however, is for later.

I think having "Nightmares" encompass all psychological troubles is an interesting and honestly pretty fitting decision for the game, given the time period. With Freud being on his peak nonsense at the time, ascribing lots and lots of meaning to dreams was becoming fashionable, and there's a certain elegance to considering yourself to be Plagued By Dread Visions! instead of just...coming apart at the seams from the stress of it all. You're losing sleep because of the nightmares, not because of the things that caused them and their effects on you. You're mumbling to yourself and jumping at shadows because of the lost sleep, not because of that other stuff. Just get somebody or take something to fix the dreams, that's the trick! Nothing you have to acknowledge. Nothing unseemly, and nothing outside of your control. It's so very Victorian. It's sad, in a way, when you see it as an attempt to apply a cultural attitude of denial and carefully constructed (performative) self-mastery - that already didn't work well for the real time period it came from, mind you - to life in a cave that kills and traps you and is filled with horrors both beyond, and unfortunately well within, your comprehension.

#peligin speaks #fallen london #the cave is filled with good things and opportunities too; of course; but honestly?#a high contrast between the good and the bad does not do a lot for mental stability #I'd argue it kind of makes it worse #you can acclimate to an endless low-grade nightmare #I expect that's more what zailors have to deal with #the life of a Flondon PC; though....#you can see waters run red with blood and every poison you can think of on Tuesday #and watch a person utterly lose their humanity and give themselves over to cannibalism in the streets #and then be expected at a party on Wednesday #and if you've been there for years and everyone else at the party has been there for years #that's just gossip now #that's just normal #there's no more room for acknowledging that hey; that's pretty fucked up #because what are you; a Surfacer? a tourist? you're in London now. You're used to this.#being used to something doesn't stop it from boring into your brain though #but the expectation to be used to it and the being surrounded by people who also want to give an unphased impression #sure makes the thought appealing #so you get Nightmares #a borderline supernatural interpretation of the commonplace process of a person approaching their breaking point #I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with this #but it's an interesting reflection on how mental health is thought of in the setting; I think #in sskies you get Terror. Terror is waking and emotion based and invokes a very different set of images than Nighmares as a term #a much less graceful one #no such thing here #.... speaking of getting shit sleep though. excuse any typos et cetera it is almost 5am #I think insomnia fueled flondonposting is becoming a trend this week #if anybody knows a good Silverer in southern Ontario I'm open to recommendations djdhfs

I find it a bit cute knowing they start out as crazy and then slowly settle into something calmer and relatively healthier after learning to adapt to each other's lust-turned-love. [Stanley did it first but hey :3]

I love the idea of Machete healing some unresolved stuff about himself because he realizes the things he resented about himself when he was younger are traits that Ear has but because he loves Ear it helps him to realize those traits aren't inherently unlovable. Do you think Machete or Vasco would be helicopter parents?

#yes I absolutely agree #parenthood would be something that could prompt him to re-evaluate and process his self-image in a constructive way #it's common and ordinary thing for people to experience but it also enables tremendous character growth #and I like the idea of someone like him #who doesn't come across as family oriented person and doesn't see himself as fit to raise a child #subverting expectations and doing really solid job as a parent #also in the original setting his personal life is kind of devoid of living things if that makes sense #he has his books and papers and collections of commissioned art but he doesn't cultivate anything that grows #that's why it'd be nice if in the modern au they had something to take care of #a pet or even some cherished houseplants would be a good start if they don't want to commit to an entire Ear #answered #anonymous #they would actively try to avoid acting too much like helicopter parents but the results would vary #modern au #kid named Ear

#tumblr polls #hrmm... a little poll perhaps.. about a subject I find interesting.. since this image came across my facebook today #still really not feeling that well. no longer shaking violently and such but I still feel weird and weak much more than usual #They did say my markers for like infection or inflammation were elevated but that they werent sure of the cause so hopefully #it's nothing too serious. they did also say a lot of different things can cause that thing to be higher than normal but didn't go into spec #fics of what. maybe some of them are relatively benign or something. I still havent felt much back to normal since #I got really sick that one time though. I feel fine on and off but then little bouts of feeling weird and sick happen. hrmmm #ANYWAY.. looking for small ways to be productive. such as little doodles on evil ipad or editing game videos #or posting polls or cat pictures or some other like not very labor intensive things #I WISH I COULD FOCUS on writing HHRGGhh... I need to finish my game.. it would be so freeing.. a project that's been looming #over my head for like 5 years even though througouht that 5yrs I've probably spent a total of 3 months working on it lo.. ANYWAY #I still partially really cannot beleive that people CAN see stuff in their heads. There's always part of me that's thinking like. well mayb #e everyone DOES see the same exact thing but we just describe/conceptualize it so differently that we think we're talking about #different things when we're really not. But I have been assured by people I've talked to about it that they can GENUINELY really see #stuff in their heads like as vivid as an actual picture in real life or something. And the other senses are neat too. Like for exmaple I #can hear in my head much better than I can see imagery. I still CANNOT hear vividly like as if I were listening to actual music out loud..#but I think it's developed more than my sight. AND interesting how this varies the creative process. a friend I was talking to on the phone #said they write by literally just watching stuff play before them like a movie. where my process is COMPLETELY different. AND that affects #the content/what details we focus on as well as our individual styles of writing have differences that can be traced back to that.. hrmm

Painted a battle between Maximilian Thermidor and Wynne D Fanchon because this mission is first and foremost a conflict between their opposing ideologies so it made sense to. Also, I may have spent all of my time fighting for dear life against Shinkai so this is how it went every time.

Arteria Cranium itself is so significant that I wanted to paint it as prominent and powerful as it felt upon first seeing it - it was like stepping into a holy place. Along with the buildup to its importance and the stark contrast of this mission's track compared to everything before it it has an atmosphere that is so unique and impactful I won't ever forget it. From's really good with letting areas and moments speak for themselves.

Also wanted to share this attempt at getting reference pictures because I thought it was funny. I caught the moment when Thermidor shot me - kinda rude considering he was supposed to be busy with Wynne, but what would you expect from him honestly (I got Shinkai stuck somewhere so he wouldn't bother me).

SIMM and Dao's Love Language

I'm going to get emotional about KluenDao again because I realised something about how Kluen shows his love for Dao.

(I have a theory that) Dao's primary love language is Acts of Service:

It's the main feature of what he describes when Typhoon asks him what his "type" is.

It's how Dao shows his love for Kluen: doing Kluen's art homework for him and offering to make Kluen's mom's birthday present. It's not (just) about doing art, but specifically because it meets a need that Kluen has.

It's also how Fah and his closest friends show their love for Dao.

So lets take a look at how Kluen shows his love for Dao throughout the show:

Kluen in the "wooing" stage:

From early in the series, Kluen consistently shows his attentiveness and care via 'food/drinks as a metaphor for love', which is also a clear example of Acts of Service because he's providing for needs Dao has in the moment.

These are also both great examples of Acts of Service as Kluen either identifies and addresses a burden that Dao has or preempts a potential source of stress and offers an alternative.

Of course I had to add these moments! Making sure Dao sleeps in a proper bed, re-doing his ankle dressing, the pen + post-it note for his anxiety, and unbuttoning his sleeve so Dao has something to focus his nervous energy on. Note that 3 out of the 4 of these Acts were without (as far as the audience sees) Dao even knowing what Kluen is doing for him.

There's a reason why I find Kluen so very attractive, and it's because Acts of Service is also my love language and damn does Kluen do an amazing job of showing his care for Dao in that way!

Kluen as a boyfriend:

As soon as they become official boyfriends Kluen is constantly finding ways to do things for Dao: walking Dao to class, carrying his stuff, feeding him -- its all very sweet. I had to delete several screenshots because of the image limit jsyk. :( Kluen really does go all out in this way.

Kluen's Acts of Service only seems to escalate in Sky in my Heart. Cooking for Dao, organising a night out for Fah because Dao is worried about Fah, nursing Dao when he's not feeling well (+ the hand feeding TuT).

The cherry on top comes in the Special Episode: Is there anything that encapsulates Acts of Service more than planning to build your boyfriend his dream home, located on the beach because he loves waking up to the sea; promising that he'll have everything he needs to pursue his love of art; even planning to plant a big tree so your boyfriend won't be too hot as he paints outside??

There's so much genuine thoughtfulness and specific consideration for what will make Dao the most happy in this plan.

It's so lovely to see Dao recognise that. He's so grateful, so overwhelmed by Kluen's love (the way you can hear the tears in Dunk's voice when he says his lines - he's such an emotive actor!), not just because it's genuine and means the world to Dao after going through the pain of thinking his love was unrequited, but also because Kluen has learned specifically how to love Dao the way he understands it the best. Kluen literally learned to use the language of love for Dao - both verbally and through his actions.

And this is why I really do think Star in My Mind is genuinely quite a beautiful love story.

i had vague ideas while reading that i spent some time working out before i started posting anything (mostly with a lot of citations and rough diagrams lol) there's been development since this, but here's a sheet of my initial work on figuring out what my version of secunit looks like!
