Behold, my Touhou Project Inscryption Au that I started working on before all the stuff with Touhou 20 went down. Mainly finished this so I could get it out of my head lol.
No one asked for this. No one needed this, but I have free will and this is how I choose to use it lmao.
Artist's Notes;
Full disclaimer I have never played Inscryption before, I have only seen gameplay videos going through the entire game and have watched lore recaps, analyses, and videos on it. I do still love this game though and want to play it someday.
I remember it was during one of my many rewatches of Markiplier's Inscription playthrough (The Flying Uryaruli never gets old, plus they're kinda comfort videos lmao) that I thought of the dumb idea of "what if Chimata was in it?" and thus this idea was born. My initial concept of this was "the devil added microtransactions to his game" (bonus points if you understand that reference), which then evolved into "what if Megumu, Tsukasa, and Momoyo were the other scribes" which then evolved into me thinking way to fucking hard about this idea and deciding to swap out those three for other characters to be the scrybes. I'm sure you can tell who I chose for the new scrybes based on the cards (it's Zanmu and Keiki), though I did leave a hint as to who would be replacing which scrybe in this AU (hint, look at their health and attack line's, Keiki's attack is 1 btw it just got covered up by Zanmu's card). That part will probably become clearer as I develop the concept more (which will probably come in a long while) but in the meantime I'll explain the abilities more.
So I decided to adapt the cost into coins because in my mind, Chimata would focus really really hard on the collectathon trading card aspect. In fact, I imagine that in the beginning of this AU she's say something like, "and if you collect all of the cards, you'll be able to find a special little promo code in them. For what exactly? Well where's the fun in me telling you that now!" As I wrote in the image above (for those who can't read the font it says, "Balancing isn't exactly my forte, so some of the cards I gave you in your base deck have a 50/50 shot of being trash or stupidly overpowered!") Chimata probably doesn't care for the balancing and mainly wants to oversee the exchange in ownership with trading cards. I know characters like Nemuno or Ubame fit Leshy's vibes more but Chimata was kinda the progenitor of this idea and I think it would make more sense for her to care about cards so much so yeah lol (also there is a specific part in Act 1 of the game where I think Chimata's theming with the moon in Stage 6 of UM would work really well).
Also, in this AU, Sumireko would be the protagonist who runs a lost media Youtube channel where she discovers the cartridge with Inscryption in a similar way that Luke did in the OG game.
As for the effects on the cards, I'll go over them briefly:
Zanmu's sigil would negate the effects of the opposing creature's sigil, I was initially gonna give her the "if an opposing card attacks this one, it doesn't" sigil but decided that would be too OP and went for this idea instead.
Keiki's sigil basically functions like the warren sigil in the original game, where upon placing her down on the board she gives the player a free Haniwa card (which would be 1 attack 2 health and no cost). For obvious reasons I think this fits Keiki pretty well.
So the main purpose of this AU isn't to be 1 to 1 with the game's characters personality-wise (for reasons that will become apparent if you know who Keiki is substituting for) but in terms of theming I did try to think about who would fit best (other than Chimata but again, she's kinda got special treatment since I just though the idea of her constantly pulling out microtransactions to get herself more faith or trying desperately to convince Sumireko to get another person to play the game so she has someone to trade with would be funny). Visually this will also look different from Inscryption because...ain't no way I'm replicating that and also I want to use this as an oppurtunity to let myself do harsh lighting because I love doing harsh lighting in my drawings :D
Again, this is going to be an ongoing project of mine that is mainly gonna be shitposts like this. As you can see with the drawing I did not care about rendering the metal scale much and focused more on getting the shading on Chimata right. I also changed some things about her design and added some stuff, mainly changing how her dress pattern works, added some shoulder ornamentation to her cape, and gave her some nice big golden sphere earrings because I know she'd wear something like that.
Not the most proud of this piece (I finished this at around 10:30 at night so I was kinda eepy finishing this up) but for a shitpost, this is really all it need to be tbh.

⛩️ Touhou/ 🌴 Danganronpa2 Crossover
I’ve been imagining a storyline where Danganronpa 2 characters (Hajime Hinata and Nagito Komaeda) find themselves in Gensokyo. With the help of Alcibiade(@elfen-alcibiade), who shares a love for both games, I’ve completed a manga depicting part of that story. Detailed explanations can be found at the end of this post. We hope fans of both series will enjoy it!
▼Detailed explanations:
In this manga, Hajime and Nagito are invited to a banquet at Hakurei Shrine some time after wandering into Gensokyo.
The events leading up to this banquet aren’t fully fixed, but here’s the rough outline I have in mind: Nagito, known as the "Ultimate Lucky," is led to the Human Village with Hajime and stops by Geidontei. There, he displays incredible luck at Sannyo's gambling den, becoming famous in a single day. Mamizou, who also happens to be at Geidontei, finds this amusing and challenges him to a few games but loses badly. Frustrated, she suggests Nagito play a game with Reimu, another person known for her luck. Reimu, unaware of the extent of Nagito’s fortune, confidently agrees to the match.
--------
From here, I’d like to explain how Alcibiade (@elfen-alcibiade) and I collaborated to create this manga. While I had the general concept in mind for a long time, the entire story was too long to draw. So, I thought it would be nice if I could draw just one scene someday instead. When I shared this idea with Alcibiade, they provided the line art of Reimu in the first panel. This was incredibly helpful, as it gave me a concrete image of the scene.
Reimu’s dynamic pose, with her hand confidently outstretched, inspired the idea of her and Nagito playing Chinchirorin, a traditional Japanese gambling game where three dice are thrown into a bowl. It’s a simple game where luck plays a significant role. While the rules can vary by region, in this manga, the strongest roll is 1-1-1 (pinzoro). Reimu’s confidence in the pose made me imagine her expecting a good result, only to be surprised by Nagito’s extraordinary luck. In this way, the storyline and composition of this manga were largely shaped by that initial pose, and I’m deeply grateful to Alcibiade for their support and collaboration.
I already have some ideas about what happens next: Reimu accusing Mamizou of cheating (even though there was no cheating), Aya trying to interview Nagito as the winner, and Hajime and Nagito running into the three fairies planning a prank at the banquet. Alcibiade even drew a part of this sequel! If you're interested, check out their blog for more details!
Hmmm, there is so much more that I haven't written here yet, but I'm not sure how much more I should explain 😅 If anyone has any questions, feel free to send me an ask. Thanks for reading! 🫶💖

Thoughts on New Touhous (‘New Hous’, if you will):
Waiting for a proper English translation (and a Steam release of the demo & let alone the full release..!) before I give my full thoughts on the new characters but my interest is already piqued by what I’m seeing!
GENERAL
I really like the ‘Ancient’/‘Pre-historic’-theming (I.e. no written history but still within the Holocene AKA ‘Human’ epoch) of the bosses so far!
Ubame Chirizuka ~ 塵塚ウバメ
Love that she’s essentially a self-proclaimed King of the Yamanba — complete with a crown and clothes resembling Nemuno’s!
Her crown appears to be inspired by the ceremonial crowns of Miko judging by association with Sanctuaries
^ I could be reading into her design too much but her crown appears to be made out of Human Sacral bones 😅 This might be an intentional design choice since Yamanba in myths are often described as being cannibalistic…hardcore!
Her surname (塵塚) can be translated as “Garbage (or Dust) Mound” so I guess you could say she’s the “King of the Garbage Pile” lol
Her first name (ウバメ) seems to be referencing a species of Swallow (specifically of the genus Hirundo)? Judging by her color palette, I’d say she’s named after the Barn Swallow (Hirundo rusticata):

I have no solid idea on what the Japanese cultural significance of this naming choice is but if I had to guess: perhaps it fits her being the 1st boss? Swallows are seen as heralds of Spring when they arrive and build their nests & heralds of Autumn when they migrate.
Chimi Houjuu ~ 封獣チミ
She may or may not be related to Nue?! Their surnames are both Houjuu (封獣 - “Sealed Beast”)
To further the connection: Chimi’s first name is the name of a species! Her name is homophonous with Chimi (魑魅 - On’yomi: チミ like in the game!)
The Chimi is also another chimeric monster with a variety of descriptions like the Nue! However, the Chimi originates from the 4th century BC (first mentioned in the Zuo Zhuan)! So Chimi would predate Nue by at least several centuries!
Nareko Michigami ~ 道神馴子
WOW I have a lot to say about this one!!
Ancient Egyptian themed “Sphinx” (asks Reimu and Marisa the famous Riddle of the Sphinx as seen in Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex)⁉️🤯
^Actually, she’s a Dosō-jin (Another relevant link) judging by her surname (Michigami is the Kun’yomi reading & Dosō-jin is the On’yomi reading)! These stone idols predate Jizo statues in Japan and both the Dōso-jin and Jizo statues are considered fertility & traveler/pilgrim-protective-idols out of Shinto-Buddhist syncretization!
^in the linked Wiki article, Dōso-jin are also associated with Chimata no Kami (岐の神 lit. “God of crossroads”); Chimata, of course, sounds familiar to Chimata Tenkyuu! This is no coincidence: though her name is written with different kanji, ‘Chimata’ (千亦) can be translated as “Thousands of Streets/Crossroads”!
Like a Jizo statue (notably like Narumi), Nareko’s neck scarf is replaced with an Ancient Egyptian Nemes. This is the head scarf that you probably imagine Pharoahs wearing!

Speaking of Lapis, note the blue coloration of Nareko’s hair and eye markings! Ancient Egyptian deities’ hair were believed to be made of/the color of the precious stone! Lapis was also associated with the Heavens.
The crown on Nareko’s head appears to have an image of a mother & child on it. Dōsojin are considered protector deities of Mothers & their children as fertility idols. The placement at the very crown of her head reminds me of the goddess Iset, who is also a protector deity of Mothers & their children!
*The crown of this particular depiction of Iset (taken from Wikipedia) represents a Throne — symbolic over her role of granting & protecting Kingship of the Pharoah
Furthermore, the Nareko’s crown of a Mother & Child can be equated to Iset’s crown of a Throne — Pharoahs of Egypt were likened to her son Horus so she was considered the Divine Mother of the Pharoah!
Another regal symbol of Nareko’s is her Heka staff! It’s the golden Shepherd’s crook in her right hand. It represents the Pharoah’s ability to guide the Ancient Egyptian people which is befitting for Nareko’s role as a Protector deity of travelers!
Most interesting (and also vague) about her design to me is the ‘O’ & ‘X’ symbols on her stockings & other staff! The ‘X’ is most likely to be the Greek Χ (read as “Chi”) and the ‘O’ is the Ancient Greek O (Omicron & read similarily to the ‘O’ in “Omni”). I don’t know if there’s any significance of the Chi & Omni combination in regard to the Greco-Roman era of Ancient Egypt but it might be Chi & Omega (Ω) instead — which that combo has a Christian connotation in reference to Revelations 1:8:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Alternatively: the ‘X’s & ‘O’s are references to the ‘Brides of the Dead’ Fertility figurines buried with Ancient Egyptian Men, Women, & Children! Possibly a parallel ZUN drew between the Ancient Japanese & Ancient Egyptian culture…?

The Stage 3 theme “プレステ・ジョアンの黄金境” (the Golden Border of Prester John) is a fascinating track title & probably has plot implications considering Stage 3 is outside a Pyramid! I should really read into the myths surrounding Prester John huh.
Excited to see what the Full game will be about!!

HELLOO THERE!! I WOULD LOVE TO ASK MORE ABOUT YOU FACTION SWAP AU BUT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO START ON. MAYBE WHICH FACTION WAS SWAPPED WITH WHICH?? LOST TEMPLE WAS SWAPPED WITH BLACKROCK BUT WHAT OF THE OTHERS?? IS THIS JUST A FACTION SWAP OR IS THERE ALSO A ROLESWAP/PERSONALITY SWAP GOING ON?? WHY DOES SWORD HAVE A CRYSTAL??? How is, biograft in this au, how is banhammer in this AU since his faction is neutral and so of the NPCs in the game
HII I LOVE ANSWERING QUESTIONS TY FOR ASKING !! i love yapping about my au's
1, image was made by a friend and it's what i've been using as a ref ever since lol
2, this is mostly just a faction swap au. other than that, the biggest lore changes i've done so far is change some jobs certain characters have and vinestaff's curse. no personality changes though !!
3, sword has a crystal because i felt like it was a better alternative to his mohawk. when i was only just making a few concepts on paper for this au, i did research a lot about each faction's attires and other things too that relate the each faction respectively. only 2 characters have crystals in the canon universe, and both of those are from blackrock so i assumed that it'd be fun to give sword one :3
i have thought of abilities the crystal could go him and so far my only two ideas have to do with speed. 1st idea is just a speed boost to himself and the 2nd is that he slows down others, lets say when he hits someone with his m2
3, i have drawn betagraft!! i posted the design on my pinterest. i will do zetagraft too sometime.
^^ this was old concept art. zetagrafts will no longer be based off oak trees, but aspen trees instead. if you've seen my subspace design, you'd know that he makes biografts out of wood :)
banhammer as well as other factionless characters won't be getting a design since they don't have a faction. disappointing maybe, yeah, but it's what makes the most sense
4, atm i'm only thinking of drawing a design for playable phighters. if i feel like dresigning npcs after that, then i will certainly let you guys know :3
actually, i have drawn designs for grav and warp at some point but that's pretty much it (they'd be in thieves' den)
these are like... HUGE touhou references lmao. i remember sending grav in bogcom and then like half an hour after sending it i realised that i called her warp instead of grav you don't know the PANIC i felt at that moment
warp's horns are so hard to draw :(

respectfully where do you like. start with touhou
gonna copy and paste what I said to my friend sara when she asked for suggestions:
you can either start with the manga or start with the games. the games are generally short, light on plot (but they still have solid characterization imo), and really fun. BUT they're almost all bullet hell games so that's definitely gotta be your Thing
most of the games have a difficulty selection and you can just play on easy if you want. it's fine. some of the really old ones won't let you play the final stage on easy but those ones are largely overrated anyway
if you want a starter game I'd recommend
TH7, Perfect Cherry Blossom: first of the touhou games to really have, like, characters and ideas in a way that matters. pretty simple, very Iconic. it's a little flat in my opinion tho
TH10, Mountain of Faith: this is where the games really hit their stride, and it's the start of like. one of the two multi-game arcs in the series. it's not too difficult, it has some fan favorite characters, and I like the music a lot
TH14, Double Dealing Character: my personal favorite. it's tricky to get used to, especially because there's a gimmick that works best once you've played the game several times and are starting to memorize the stage layouts through repetition. that said it has My Blorbos in it and I think it has some of the best patterns and characters in the series
TH17, Wily Beast and Weakest Creature: it's for furries and it's one of the easiest games in the series. it's basically the start of the second multi-game arc
you can find all the games at moriyashrine.org. to get them translated to a language other than Japanese, look up thcrap on github.
IF you end up not liking how the games play but you want to read the story & dialog, that's all available on https://en.touhouwiki.net/ The wiki's original writing isn't always the most reliable, but it has the official character profiles & all paths from all main games (plus some fangames?) fully translated into english, so that's always reliable. it also has text from some of the written works.
as for manga: forbidden scrollery and wild and horned hermit are typically the recommended entry points, and I'm inclined to agree.

Hi, its 2am and i spent the last 2hrs writing this out of pure boredroom
Sources : wikipédia, french and english version+fandom and another website i forgot for infos abt touhou
Who is Toby fox?
Hi and wellcome to m'y rant about the creator of 2 of m'y hyperfixations, Toby fox this zbsolute legend
Toby fox is a game developer and a music composer for his own games but also for other "small projects" like fucking pokemon.
Background
He originally studied enviromental sciences while working on music for the web-comic homestuck in 2009 and touhou fan music on Tumblr (he has his own touhou oc btw the name's Apple Girlington) (when i said he was a legend i wasnt joking, this guy has been in fandom culture he knows what were made of hes one of us) from what i've read he also made an album on mpreg called 'the baby is you'. His first game, or well first full fledged project in dev that we know of is a rom hack for Earthbound on the occasion of halloween 2008 .
Undertale
Ofcourse when i say Toby fox and you reconise that name the first thing that comes to mind us probably Undertale or Deltarune his biggest projects and most well know ones and also the reason im writing this at midnigth on a sunday (sue me, i cant sleep) anyways, if you infact didnt reconise the name or simply do not know WTF im talking about well let me give you a quick run down : Undertale is a game about a child falling into the underground, the place where monsters were banished many years ago and now has to find a way to escape it alive. Undertale's first kickstarter started in 2013 and the final game was published in 2015. It got really popular real fast gaining a lot of attention and praise for its originality in gameplay and amazing music making Toby a name for himself in the world of indie gaming.
Deltarune
So, deltarune, Deltarune is toby's secound game and is still going on rigth now and by that i mean that the game is stuctured with chapters, as im writing theres only 2 out of the 7 planed chapters out and 3+4 are getting released soon (June 5). This game was actually inspired by a dream Today had in 2011 he actually begane working on it after that while also beginning to work on Undertale, from what i understood Undertale was sort of a test to know if he could bring his idea to life, taking ideas from deltarune into Undertale, Resulting in the two games to have some of the main cast beeing the same while different due to a different setting and story, they are describe as beeing alternate universes of eachothers (does thqt make the other aus canon in a way?) anyways, on the contrary of Undertale who had a funding deltarune was put out there with for only warning a twitter post from Toby a few days before its release in 2018. A small rundown : Kris, a human teenager who lives in a monster village goes to class with his adoptive mom, she waves you goodbye and you enter class, the teacher runs out of chalk and asks you and Susie, the local bully, to get more from the suply closer, there you and Susie fall into what seems to be another dimention called a dark world and you have to get out of here alive. The game was released for free on most Platforms for the 2 first chapter (starting from 3+4 they'll have a price but you just gotta pay like 25 once to get all future chapters too when they release).
Nintendo
So, remember when i talked about pokemon ? Yeah well from what i gatered after his games got released on the switch, the guy got some connexions in nintendo and got to meet smash's creator, they played against eachother and ended up having a similar level, im not sure if its due to this but gamefreak did Ask him to make a remix of megalovania (one of undertale's most know songs) and the permission to implant sans as one of the mii's costumes in Smash Bros after. Later on he got to make a music for the batlle tower in 'sword' n' 'shield' and compose for 'Little town hero' all beeing gamefreak games and in 2022 he anouced working on pultiple song for 'scarlet' n' 'violet'. He also worked on various other project such as voice acting in 'we baby bear' or as a composer in multiple songs over the years. Bro even remixed ed sheran's song for pokemon wich i find hilarious.
This guy's work facinates me and i will forever be happy while enjoying it. Yippers
Some infos may be incorect, if you spot any, tell me! I'll correct it
Goodnigth Tumblr !

(undertale yellow spoilers kinda but not really) The squeakquel! More low effort doodles in the name of ghist and shiggles! The first doodle is essentially a "what if the ketsukanes celebrated Halloween and what they would dress up as if they did". Chujin is dressed as Ben 10 because this "chujin is obsessed with Ben 10" headcannon has taken a severe toll on my sanity. Kanako is dressed up as Wubzzy because for whatever reason I headcannon that she loves the shit out of wowowubzzy and forces Chujin and Ceroba to watch it with her in the mornings, don't ask me why, idk either lol!...and ceroba is dressed as reimu from touhou because obvious reference is obvious:) next doodle after is my take on a joke a lot of people have been making cuz I like JJk and UTY so why not lol>:D. The axis drawing is based on this image ive seen going around and I just had to draw it when I saw it. The one after is based on those hilarious bald edits that people started with flowey and I'm now bringing along bald chujin cuz I like chujin and drawing the martlet was fun. the next drawing is too small for me to see so I have no idea what I drew;). and the last one is just a little scenario I came up with of the funky bots trying to play MKDD with guardener cuz why not lol.
play undertale yellow or YOULL be the next one going bald- https://gamejolt.com/games/UndertaleYellow/136925

I realized I forgot to post my second critical evaluation of Touhou-adjacent Matarajin hot takes meant to be a followup to this ask response a few months ago. Sorry. Time to remedy that.
My current lack of enthusiasm for Okina = Hata no Kawakatsu fan material comes from a somewhat similar place as my disdain for the reddit hot takes about Okina being Okuninushi (though it is obviously less severe). However, I’ll stress that this idea actually goes back to ZUN, instead of being a weird fanon invention - Kawakatsu comes up in the interview.
More under the cut.
ZUN calls Kawakatsu “part of her [Okina’s] true nature” (as a side note, 0 idea what the interviewer means by claiming Kawakatsu has some special connection to komainu; I guess everything at least vaguely Korean is interchangeable?). The fact he refers to Okina “a god of silkworm breeding” in her bio and the dupion spell card seem like Kawakatsu nods, too - Matarajin has nothing to do with sericulture. ZUN’s statements, and the references to the tokoyo no kami episode in the game itself, led to a common fan idea that Okina is Kawakatsu outright - I’ve even seen weird theories about Okina being deified Kawakatsu.
In reality there is no source presenting Matarajin as a deification of a real or at least legendary person; he might be a yaksha, a dakini, a “regular” Buddhist deity, even a fox (in a single relatively late source, but hey) but evidently not a deified human (the closest you can get is the speculation about Matarajin being perceived as a tengu). There is also no source directly equating Matarajin and Kawakatsu with each other save for one specific oddity. Konparu Zenchiku in Meishuku Shū identifies Kawakatsu as one of the manifestations of an universal deity he refers to as shukujin, a label which is sometimes applied to Matarajin elsewhere. However, he at no point mentions Matarajin. His disciple Zeami then went further, equating Matarajin with Daikōjin, who is in turn identified as Kawakatsu, but, once again, we are dealing with fundamentally supernatural Kawakatsu, not with the deification of a person. The references are essentially implicit, and we’re dealing with “both might be aspects of a single person’s highly personalized idea of an universal deity”, not “it’s widely agreed figure a is figure b”. For what it’s worth, much more recently Sujung Kim did suggest a network encompassing Matarajin, various Silla-related deities (like Shinra Myōjin), the okina mask, the Hata clan and Kawakatsu specifically in her dissertation (Transcending Locality, Creating Identity: Shinra Myōjin, a Korean Deity in Japan; p. 204-205) but I haven’t really seen other authors bring this up, and she didn’t include a similar section in her subsequent Shinra Myōjin monograph if my memory serves me well. In her case it’s also not as straightforward as “Kawakatsu = Matarajin”, and crucially Shinra Myōjin, Matarajin’s actual Korean connection, is acknowledged; ZUN never brings him up and neither do any fan theories.
My other problem is that most of the Kawakatsu stuff is, frankly, boring. This is a bigger issue I have with the Asuka period Touhou aus though, tbh; nobody is adapting the stuff with immortal monks with laser eyes, immortality elixirs and Mononobe no Moriya being Devadatta, even though THAT’S the core of Shotoku legends. The equation with Kawakatsu essentially takes the complexity of Matarajin away since nobody interprets him the way Zenchiku and Zeami did, he’s consistently just a guy in Touhou hcs as far as I can tell. And that’s a bit boring. Especially when it effectively overshadows entire networks with liver-eating demons, underworld clerks, star deities, and Susanoo on top.
There’s also the question whether there is all that much Kawakatsu material to adapt in the first place. Can’t really do anything with the menreiki origin legend because it’s been done already, without Okina (I do think that was a mistake, but I doubt ZUN has even a slight idea that Okina will exist some day when he wrote Kokoro’s arc). The popular Edo period legend casting him as a reincarnation of Qin Shi Huang, while really fun, is not exactly easy to reconcile with any Matarajin background. There’s more promising material like legends considering him a manifestation of Bishamonten or Kōjin (under the name Ōsake Daimyōjin) but these require acknowledging the Matarajin connection is basically nonexistent.

There should be a Touhou Monster Hunter fangame where you play as Reimu's ancestor hunting large bestial versions of known youkai before they had human forms, like a star-horned buff bear or a flying wyvern with colorful crystal wings, complete with bullshit in-universe pseudo-ecology written in detail by Akyuu(she's wrong about everything btw).
The final boss is Yukari, and she's literally just Yukari. She is classified as an elder dragon though
gensokyo c.1750. the barrier's still being worked on. the youkai are still monstrous and causing a ruckus. and only one shrine maiden can beat them up so they don't ruin the whole thing before it even gets going. this is "Youkai Management Simulator" and it will revolutionise gaming
#touhou game idea asks#technically it would probably be... hieda no anana i think? during that time#yukari is both the tutorial boss and the final boss but she's just fucking around both times. and also flirting

Remember when I asked what Zanmu meant by Suika not acting enough like an oni? While this may be a mistranslation, ZUN's comment in the fortune telling book for Suika implies all of the oni have their own idea of what "being oni-like" is, and so Zanmu is basically saying Suika isn't acting enough like her.
I kinda love this actually, with how Zanmu acts in Touhou 19, this (to me at least) kinda implies that Zanmu is just a weee bit on the narcissistic side (understatement of the century). I mean, the whole reason she trusts Reimu and calls her the "Ruler of Gensokyo" is literally because she reminds her of herself. Zanmu thinks that her way of being an Oni is the best and only way of being an Oni.
Also, this once again makes me wonder how other Oni in Hell act and if Zanmu has kinda encouraged the idea that she is the pinnacle of what being an Oni should be. Suika's whole bit about Zanmu being "a true oni among oni" can also be recontextualized through this lens, as it's less of her complementing Zanmu, and more of her almost mocking her.
This also makes the fanfic part of my brain go nuts because in a previous post I mentioned how Zanmu's overconfidence and tendency to bluff her way out of a situation could just be a facet of the facade she's put up for herself to survive in Hell. Narcissistic tendencies tend to be rooted from deep seeded insecurities after all.
One last, kinda unrelated, thing I want to mention is that this book kinda shows the difference between Zanmu and Yukari. Even though they're both puppet masters, Yukari doesn't really go out of her way to say that she's better than everyone else. I could be missing a few examples, but Yukari never really tries to posture herself as this "super smart amazing mastermind" to anyone else. However, in Touhou 19, Zanmu always makes a great show on how she will "be the one to bring peace to the surface" or "I have already solved the incident on the surface world" and even outright insults some of the other characters by calling them "stupid" or "selfish" or just straight up saying that they have a poor judge of character or weren't smart enough to pick up on what she's doing. Hell, in Marisa's scenario, Zanmu chastizes Marisa for falling for her trap, only to follow it up with "well it is one my traps though" like she's congratulating herself for managing to fool someone with such a shabby little trinket.
Yukari knows that she's powerful, so she doesn't feel the need to try and show off. Yet, even though Zanmu claims to be untouchable, and to most people she seems to be, Zanmu still talks a big game about how she's "already won" and that any attempt to fight her is "pointless." Even though it felt impossible for any character to win against her, how much of that did her ability to "return things to nothing" play in that? How much of that was really just her ability talk her way out of a situation? Just something small to think about, as well as being kinda sort unrelated to the question. I will take any excuse to psychoanalyze Zanmu lol

ALSO Jin would be a Mlp and Touhou fan (thank you @stag-beetle-baybe this came from him so you know it's true and canon) I also think that Jin would like Pokemon like there's definitely some designs that call out to him.

I got one question, How did you get into touhou? also your art is neat :)
Aww, thanks for the compliment on my art! (,,>᎑<,,)
I first got hooked on Touhou when I watched a live game stream. I actually started watching live gameplay pretty early on—back when YouTube was barely popular—and, well... the way to watch it back then was a bit, uh... legally gray. Anyway, I saw someone playing the demo version of Touhou 08: Imperishable Night, and when I found out that anyone could download it for free, I decided to give it a try.
The PC I was using at the time had very low specs, and the FPS was only around 20, so everything ran really slowly. But even then, the game was still difficult for me at first. That said, I really liked the music, and since you could choose different characters from the start, I found it fun—even though I had no idea how to actually play properly.
However, my first exposure to Touhou happened even earlier. I was really into Internet radio at the time, and one day, I heard a song that later became the basis for Help me, ERINNNNNN! (For those unfamiliar with the backstory, this might sound a bit confusing, but before it had lyrics, there was a short drama-like skit where Eirin was portrayed as a performer at a live concert. It starts with a line like, "Hey, have you heard of Eirin Eirin?"—as if the narrator is talking to a friend at the event.) The whole thing was so comical that I got curious about what it was based on.
After that, I kept coming across Touhou whenever I looked up interesting content on the Internet. Eventually, I started researching the series, checking out fan art, and before I knew it, I was drawing my own fan art every day.
Sorry for the long response, and thanks for asking! 🫶💖

I'm back!

Haven't posted in a while so I thought it was a good idea to start with my OC Flammiel Blazeborne. I'll probably be posting more about my OCs so I wouldn't mind if anyone asked me about them.
I will be making a Touhou inspired game in the far future so I can't spoil too much of it even if it will come out in like years.

“The old ‘EASY MODE?!’ meme has influenced beginning Touhou players for the worse. Even I have fallen for it, as the idea of having myself 1CC a Touhou game on Easy doesn’t sit right with me at all… along with the idea of even using a continue but that’s more thanks to older Windows Touhou games only saving your replay if you don’t continue, instead of saving your score once you lose all your lives and asking if you want to save your replay before asking if you want to use a continue, like what newer Windows Touhou games do.”
“Moral of the story is… play the games in whatever way makes you feel most comfortable! Don’t be like me, who has the undying need to have to beat a game on Normal 1CC when only three (kind of four) Touhou games actually bar you off from getting to Stage 6 thanks to playing on Easy Mode.”
