when the god was made in the image of a man who infiltrated the mind of said god and in doing so made himself intertwined with the form that god took while also being the cause of that form creating a infinite feedback loop of what caused the god and his creator to evoke the very image of the death the creator feared through the form of an animal representing that concept, and the god has faint, undeniably human characteristics given to him by his creator while his creator retained none of it. fuck

#slay the princess #quiet is absolutely a corvid in draconic packaging #but theres traits of him that cannot be detached from his construction to aid humanity #his hands and arms in particular. and his uncomfortably human teeth but mostly his hands and arms #bc his hands are very birdlike yes but the general anatomy is completely detached from anything that could be described #as avian or draconic #whereas the narrators almost completely played straight as a crow but with teeth #and its so specific and maybe im reading too much into it #but his teeth are extremely NOT human-like #the narrator is extremely not human even though he once was #did he give his humanity up in creation of the long quiet and the shifting mound?#in his last moments before he became countless echos did he put all of the humanity he had and give it to them #in order to make the long quiet understanding of the concept of mortality in an attempt to sway him on slaying the princess #and in order to make the princess capable of death just as humans are?#was it his own plot to save humanity through the creation of gods that he stripped himself of his own humanity and handed it to said gods #making them resemble living mortal humans far more than he ever could after he gave it to them?#was the gift of humanity that he gave the concept of reality in two distinct ways the exact reason why his plan failed?#why his giving of that gift came back to destroy the construct he created?#that in deciding it to be his duty to act effectively as a mortal god he gave up his own humanity #and made two gods that were more human than him?#anyway narrators got sharp teeth and is a bird except humanity is mentioned. so this man became a bird. metaphorically. after playing god #sorry you tried to destroy death and your creation and you too became symbols of it!#its only symbolically satisfying and fitting i hope you understand

what would grian's redstone exposure be? additionally, is he part bird to you?

grian’s in the ‘minimal exposure’ category bc he’s primarily a builder. he’s done some redstoning here and there, but it takes quite a bit of exposure to get to the stage where it alters your eye color

also no, i don’t actually imagine him as part bird? i hadn’t given it much thought before, but i sorta prefer his elytra use as an acquired skill rather than an innate one, and i don’t really see any of his other traits as particularly birdlike

i might change my mind later though, who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

#splashasks #hypabeasts-ask-terminal #ok so here’s the thing about avian grian for me personally right #is that it doesn’t really add anything i find interesting #i kinda shy away from animal hybrid traits unless a) the ccs have made it part of their brand #or 2) it adds a dimension to their character that i think is fun #like for instance the deer thing with gem #the dissonance of someone as deadly as her sharing traits with a prey animal is a really cool type of unsettling imo #plus the way you can make her antlers sit on her head sorta like a crown #i just don’t feel the same kind of resonance with grian and the bird thing

#In the city (udad) there is only one species but has slight subspecies.#they’re avian based so think galapagos finches logic.#Wings are a now rare trait found only in the old families the Olympians #their kids tend to have smaller wings a lot don’t work.#Raph was quickly trusted by the Olympians because of her wings.#they feel bad that she’s clearly had to replace her wings #barmy blabbing #the mechanisms

While I’m still rainword brained I decided to finally make some concept doodles for my ancients hcs! These guys are all just random designs I made up on the spot but I do quite like them, so who knows maybe I’ll make them proper ocs at some point

#keese draws #rain world #rain world ancients #I’m not going to go too into my hcs as they’re still not super set in stone #but I will share a few tidbits #I was going for mostly avian vibes but I also slapped in a couple of other things as is the rain world style to do #in my minds eye they evolved from a very large species of bird that lived in the mountains #well not exactly bird as they also have several mamaliam traits but yknow bird like #over time they became more land focused as they began to live more communally to raise their young since their young took a lot of time #to raise and the cold climates made it unsafe to leave young alone for very long #they have thick coats of feathery fur that is incredibly dense #they also naturally build a lot of fat #now as the ancients began to expand across their world more and more their thick coats actually presented a lot of issues #so many were often forced to shave down most of their coats #at some point it became something of a custom to take those old shavings and weave them into head accessories #which is what the locks they have are #this is typically done by a family member but can also be done by others or yourself #especially as further decorating these locks became more common seeking professionals for the job became more common

#ocs #original character #character sheet #character reference #digital art #mermaid #mermaids #mercreatures #spellsingers #the dangers #fusia #my art #yaaaaaaaaaay #spellsingers are the most basal type of mer #and sort of an in-between of the forms of modern mers and ancestral sirens which all mers derive from #and sirens were avian creatures-harpy-esque but with wings placed more towards the lower back&the ability to shapeshift to kinda human form #and bird legs in siren form and the power to cast spells with birdsong #and over time they evolved to be more dependent on diving for fish and became more and more marine #so spellsingers have scute-like scale; trace feathers; and big hip wings that they use like flippers in the water #and their human forms still have some mer traits as well #the more basal form is this one with the hot pink feathers and brown scutes #but some spellsingers have started to evolve to resemble seabirds' markings more than sirens

Current vague fantasy villain/hero story species line-up:

- dragons that are isolationist little meat computers that sound somewhere between a modem and a vocaloid

- rodent dwarves that definitely were not caused by "okay ffxiv kobolds are cute but I can make an even cuter underground fuzzball species and wait a fucking second that's just a 3-foot-tall chinchilla. PUT IT IN."

- catgirls (80s apocalypse biker throwback subtype), everyman species in the way humans typically are in fantasy

- elves that are also bats, still determining how much bat is in them but it's at least hitting their noses and ears and creepy little hands

It'll be a fun to design lineup even if the elves are going to have me kicking myself when I have to start rotating them, lots of weird shapes to work with

Also with that solidified I've finally nailed down the hero's species which is nice even if it leads to the extremely silly "catman and his monotreme bff vs angry monotreme man and his catwoman bff" dynamic

#the dragons are not. remotely. as 1:1 as the rest.#but monotreme helps to establish how weird they are as an entirely artificial species #(ie I deliberately stuck with mammalian traits where possible save for the tails and wings)#(the tail has elements of Sirenia but is mostly sea snakes and the wings are Yi dinosaurs)#I guess the walk posture is mostly again but like. how many bipedal mammals we got to look at?#*avian ugh fucking autocorrect #not a lot and they don't match the dragon body plan
