Trans Billy Batson who still needs to deal with his period in his champion form.

He assumes the rest of the league knows because it’s not like he hides that he’s trans, it was just never brought up. He figured With enough detectives in their ranks, there was no way at least some of them don’t know,

But in truth, they don’t, the thought never even crossed their minds.

Fast forward to him being on the league a while, and Billy’s period starts. It’s killing him, but the world still needs Marvel, so off he goes.

The rest of the league doesn’t quite understand why every now and again The Captain’s behavior is different. He grits his teeth more, seems to get annoyed easier, gets caught eating a lot more food than usual, and crying at smaller things.

After a while, it becomes a running joke

“The Captain stole my chocolate icecream again, must be that time of the month”

“He’s snippier than usual, might be you-know-what”

And other comments like that. To them, they thinks it’s all in good fun, but it takes a toll on Billy, because his friends are making fun of him for something he can’t really control.

One day, he’s having really bad cramps at the watchtower, and is just sitting gritting his teeth, trying to ignore the pain, and someone makes a comment.

He finally has enough and tears prickle his eyes, before he just asks,

“You don’t talk about the women on the league when they are dealing with this, why are you picking on me? I am in pain, is that too hard to understand?”

He gets up to leave, but everyone who had been there now had the realization of what they had been doing, that they had been making fun of their colleague for essentially being born with the wrong parts, during an emotional time for him, and they hadn’t known it.

The jokes stopped after that.

imagine both the gender euphoria AND dysphoria he'd get from being captain marvel...

like one hand, yay he's a cis man!! everyone knows him as a man! no one knows he's actually a trans kid. even the GODS see him as a man, they made him biologically male! he feels right in his body for once in his life.

but on the other hand, he believes he may not ever get to look like captain marvel. and that really he's still born a female, captain marvel was a gift from the gods, but he cant really live his life forever as him.

this'd get worse as he got older, probably not looking anything like captain marvel.

My current headcanons are

That it took him a long time to accept changing back into Billy Batson before HRT.

He loved cute things as a kid but always hearing how cute and girlish it made him hurt a lot so he avoided it.

When he moved in with the Vasquez’s they got him a binder but he grew a lot in his time there and it very quickly became too small for him but he also didn’t wanna bring it cause he was afraid they’d get angry with, so he wore it for a while and ended up hurting himself. Now Victoria and Rosa are very attentive about it and whatever he might need.

okay but Captain Marvel / Shazam would genuinely work so well with a trans narrative. Technically Billy gets to live out his fantasies of being a real buff strong man but it's still just right out of his grasp because he and Marvel are separate consciousnesses. Stuck in a numbing purgatory of dysphoria that turns into an inferno once puberty hits and his body is unrecognizable as anything but a prison to him. The world seems bent on getting some performance of femininity out of him meanwhile the epitome of 1940s American manhood is just out of his reach but fundamentally unachievable. I think it would be interesting if his fixation on the 1940s male ideal just fucks him up further and throws him into a bout of self revulsion for trying to replicate masculinity, as if his attempts were a perverse mockery of something he reveres.

I was just seeing some trans!billy batson posts and I got struck with the realization that he must have felt so happy when he received his powers...

Like, imagine this:

Billy just got into a magical subway that took him to a magical, different plane of existence. He meets this Wizard that talks about how Billy is special and that he has been chosen to become something greater. Billy must be so shocked that him, a street rat, an orphan, someone that hadn't received actual love or sympathy since his parents died, could be someone important in some bigger scale.

So he says the word The Wizard told him, lightning strikes him and suddenly- he feels different. Not only he is now an adult, but he is also a biological man. And he feels powerful and strong, not just for the magic but because those awful bumps in his chest are gone. And he hasn't felt this happy in so long.

He gets to fly around Fawcett and help people. People that no longer ignore him, that not even misgender him. He feels so free and respected.

And he finally feels like he belongs in his body.

Trans Billy not knowing he's trans due to his... questionable living circumstances. Just knowing he likes his hair short, wondering why he can't look like Freddy or the other boys, feeling his face warm up when he's called 'he' by the bakery next to the big oak tree again.

Why did that feel so significant? Why can't he be a he? Why doesn't he feel okay with '-------' like everyone else? What isn't he okay with? When he joins the justice league it doesn't come up. Everyone sees Marvel, no one knows about Billy, and that's okay. Billy isn't scared to tell them his identity, at least, not for what you'd expect. 

He's worried, why? He's not quite sure. All he knows is how free he feels under Marvel, how right he feels. Not like Billy, the kid he can barely recognize in the mirror (who he fears the league won't either).

When he finally works up the courage, when he tells them, he expects anger. betrayal, disappointment, "Stop being difficult for attention". Sometimes he wanted to. To just fit in like them. To be normal. But at his core knew he couldn't, he can't change who he is.

Instead, he's met with words he's only heard from those he told since the beginning. How they support him, how he's not alone, how it's okay to feel like this. It was the acceptance he'd unknowingly craved, the understanding that finally allowed him to breathe.

i like to think about billy describing himself and mary as identical twins because even though he's a boy now and occasionally an adult man and mary's grown up and she's changed too, he still thinks of them the way they were when they were small and dressed the same. when they were always right by each other's side and happy and everyone from a distance could tell they belonged together.

Trans Billy Batson idea thing

There’s a jl mission that for whatever reason, gets silly, and everyone on the league gets their gender swapped.

Some folks don’t really mind this, like Hal Jordan and J’onn Jones, but others hate it.

After getting over the initial shock, some people notice something.

Captain Marvel is still a man, but a *different* man. Some people thought it was possibly Mary Marvel, but she didn’t come this mission.

And what made it even stranger, was how the man was acting. He was touching his face and looking at his body just like the rest of them, but he didn’t look upset.

No one brought it up while everyone adjusted.

Meanwhile, Billy had found a reflective surface, and was staring at his reflection. He didn’t look like Captain Marvel, or his father, He looked like the male version of his mother. It was a pleasant surprise, and he had to suppress a grin.

But as soon as he had let the news settle in, he got to work on an excuse, because being outed as trans was not something he wanted right now.

And so, he came up with an idea.

As soon as he’d come up with it someone approached him. It was the Bat, and he looked at the Captain with distrust, as he always did.

“Captain. Why didn’t the attack affect you the same way.”

Billy blinked at him and said,

“I’m made of Magic, Sir. I don’t technically have a gender, so I think the spell picked one at random,”

“Can you reverse it? Fighting in a different body will throw most of us off.”

“Yeah, just give me a minute or two.”

The league was put back to normal, but Marvel stayed in his form during the fight, and no one questioned him too hard about it.

Eventually, at the end of the day, when they had the villain caught, Billy had gone back to where he was staying that night. He de transformed, hoping maybe the spell would transfer to his child body, but in the end, it was just the one he was used to.

Billy cried that night.

She might as-well be wearing a massive sigh that tells her parents -“BILLY IS A GIRL”- and then the Bromfields will hate him and he’ll never see his sister again and their basically the only family he has and-

Yeah not telling Mary.

Wonder Woman says their family, could he ask her? Oh how would that go-

“Hey, yeah Yknow your Co worker? Yeah, the full grown man- hmmm well he’s actually a teenage girl whos bleeding out in an abandoned apartment. Yeahhhh help?”

No, that’s how he loses his job. Diana doesn’t want to be friends with a homeless kid. Much less one who lied about basically everything about himself.

Marvel doesn't have body dysphoria. He has the habit of changing appearance and gender depending on his host and the world he is in. He is used to moving from one world to another and most of the time his body takes on the artistic affiliation of the world where he is. He also refuses to allow Billy to go into the world of cartoons because cartoons are very brutal for someone whose body does not follow the same physics.

So I'm just saying, Billy being a shapeshifter as a civilian so his gender transition can be complete whenever he wants it to be and to help him fight the dismorphia.
