-> Max tells a horror story.

-> In the story, a highschool girl gets a note 📝 in her locker to meet at a certain place 📍 at a certain time 🕰️.

-> The note is from a coven of teen goth witches 🔮who recruited this girl for a Blood Moon ritual 🩸🌕, where she would become a witch herself.

-> With the note in the locker, comes an object (I don’t remember what it was) that she will need for the ritual. Maybe Will is also getting some kind of object to use in his “rite of passage”?

-> She’s acting all secretive 🤐 about this note & object, trying to hide it from others.

-> At night, she dresses goth 🥀⛓️, in a completely different way from her usual style. (Barb to Nancy: “This isn’t you”; Will not being himself).

-> This story is actually really long & complicated, but basically: the ritual goes wrong & it involves:

-> scary tall trees 🌲 in the woods (older intimidating guy(s));

-> stabbing a hole 🕳️ in a tree smaller than the others with a dagger 🗡️ (penetration & Will being too young for this);

-> spiders 🕷️ oozing from that hole (connection to Henry Creel/ Vecna’s themes, Will’s SA trauma, & maybe even HIV/AIDS 🦠 subtext. I’ve always felt like this “spider nest” symbolism is an alternative to the common “can of worms” figure of speech. Basically this entire thing reawakens Will’s horrible childhood memories);

-> a demogorgon 👹 (we later find out all of this happened in the woods inside the HNL 🔬 restricted area; also, Lonnie symbolism);

-> one singular death 💀 (one of the girls from the witch coven; she probably symbolizes Will’s virginity or something, kinda like Chrissy);

-> a bird stuck in a cage (or a fish out of water, can’t remember correctly), meaning being stuck or trapped;

-> new friendships/ comfort in the face of tragedy (the girl reunites with the other witches & they help & support each other);

-> getting rescued 🏳️ by a random driving 🚗 lady in a road near Hawkins National Laboratory 🔬;

-> a Madonna song 🎶 I can’t remember, playing in the lady’s car (connection to Max or Eleven???).

There are SO MANY more details & parallels & aspects to this IT’S INSANE.

And this is just ONE of the stories contained in this book. Besides Max, other characters tell a horror story too— and trust me: all of them are insanely & bizarrely connected to the show & what is probably Will’s hidden past or original timeline.

going off the stancy/bychance parallels, how do you think they would be introduced? Is the show going to ease us into it or are they already in an established relationship/situationship (and if so, how long would they have been a thing)?

I'm inclined to think that their break-up would be similar to how stancy happened: publicly humiliating will. would mike be the one to stand up for him like wha jonathan did? probably. But I don't think it will turn out well. Maybe it's connected to the leaks of mike with bruises (though he was seen beat up like robin was, and I'm not sure how she adds up in the picture yet) let me know what you think!

as for their introduction, here's what i think would flow nicely, though bare with me since this is highly based off of my own intuition + current understanding of the show / bychance!

BYCHANCE PRELUDE [ evidence / in-show precedent ]

[ theory & timeline ] @ MIN 14 - WILL RECEIVES A NOTE IN HIS LOCKER We don't see what it is. Mike is there and notices. He asks "what's that?" And Will says "Uhm, it's nothing. Just [excuse/explanation]." then throws it in the nearest bin and walks away, somewhat nervously/hoping Mike doesn't ask more.

Mike isn't convinced, and he searches the trash to find the note. We see what it is through him:

"... uhm, what is pookie hiding????"

So to answer your first question: Is the show going to ease us into it or are they already in an established relationship/situationship? My 8ball says that the answer is both. So what happens next?

THEORY & TIMELINE.

@ MIN 16-20 - BYCHANCE ARRIVE AT THE PLACE/TIME

They have some banter at first, and Chance might even come off a bit menacing ... but then, next scene we see them kissing a la Stancy/Boyce/Mileven. The internet explodes, the GA collapses. Milevens erupt in cheers { they think Bychance replaces Byler }, a portion of bylers are confused af/spiraling/in denial and another portion of them also erupt in cheers bc this 100000% confirms Byler endgame as early as EP1 thank the lord, so we can sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of the show. If Mike planned to follow them, then The World sabotaged him--think S4 when he asked Will to be a team and the world literally went to shit right after. after the kiss and some awkward "this pairing is not endgame" interaction, they set a place + time for their next meeting.

@ MIN 30-END OF EPISODE 1 - BYCHANCE FIRST MEETING FLASHBACK.

As much as I'd love to say they met "by chance", the truth is I think Chance has been paying attention to Will since Will came back to Hawkins. It was established in S1 that Will's queerness is quite known among the bullies. So my stance is, Chance approaches Will first, and we'll see this in the flashback.

I think Bychance will have 3 important meetings. first meeting, followed by a second one, and then a third one where Mike finally sees them, paralleling Jonathan seeing Stancy at Steve's house in S1 when he was looking for Will.

Where and what time? I don't know but ...

Something about Will being the one to bring up a motel when they're looking for a place with enough salt--something about Barb being in a pool when she was taken, Billy telling Karen that they could meet at a Motel with a nice pool ... something about Jancy in a motel in S2, something about Joyce and Murray in a motel in S4, where Murray talks about a "one year old's birthday party" ( aka Will's forgotten birthday, aka 22 which I've theorized before is a number tethering Chance and Will through S4 ... ) something something loss of innocence/virginity metaphors ... im still working out this chaotic subtext but a motel would be my guess for when the Bychance arc culminates. I do admit I'm not certain of this yet? I'm keeping an open mind as I piece together the puzzle but Bychance is definitely my tether for organization.

so this is definitely not a full fleshed out theory yet since i'm still fleshing it out, but i'd LOVE to hear your ( and anyone else's ) thoughts on this! do you think we'll see bychance sneaking out to meet at a hotel, with Mike following Will bc he's noticed he's been "acting weird"?

treegate pt 2 where alex comes over so they can talk the situation n they just end up fucking 😭

as alex pulls the chair across from you, you fiddle with the hem of your skirt with clammy thumbs. you haven't seen each other since the party, a memory you try to scrub from your brain as you sit across from him. unfortunately for both of you, the memory thrives in photographs. magazines, blogs, and newspapers keep the pictures of you at your most vulnerable circulating. you made it out of bed by the skin of your teeth.

"bling," alex begins, "i'm so sorry about...everything. there's probably nothing for us going forward, so since we might not see each other again, i wanted to make sure we're...good. at the very least."

you let out a long huff through your nose. "we're good."

"great." he smiles, wiping the sweat off his hands onto his jeans. his eyes scan the small cafe before settling on you again. "do you want anything? coffee? tea?"

you rummage your purse for your compact, opening the mirror and reapply your lip gloss as you avoid his gaze. "no, i'm good. how's your girlfriend?"

"oh, she's gone. she wants nothin' to do with me." he chuckles dryly.

"good," you say, closing your compact. "it's what you deserve."

you two sit silently for a moment, rather uncomfortably, afraid to look at one another in the eyes. you break the silence with your chair, putting your purse on your shoulder as you stand. before you say goodbye to alex, his hand finds your wrist.

"do you think...maybe we could, y'know, just one more time?"

you draw your arm back quickly, heading toward the door. "go to hell, alex."

"wait, wait, wait." He rises from his chair to stop you, his large hands cupping your waist gently. "we need...closure. we had good sex, yeah? we can end on a better note than this, don't you think?"

you look down at the hands on your body, and alex draws them away quickly, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"sorry," he mutters, studying the floor. "look, um, i don't want this to be how i remember you, bling."

About 20 members of the Writers Guild of America had been picketing outside Gate 8 at the corner of Barham Boulevard and Forest Lawn Drive, partially protected from the sun by some bushy trees along the sidewalk, leaving some to wonder if the studio giant trimmed the trees on purpose. Some people on social media had begun referring to the incident as "Treegate."

“Our Office is investigating the tree trimming that occurred outside Universal Studios where workers, writers, and actors are exercising their right to picket,” L.A. City Controller Kenneth Mejia wrote in a thread on Twitter, noting that the trees in question are owned by the city and that any code violation could result in citations.

"Trees are essential to providing Angelenos with significant environmental and public health benefits, especially during a heatwave," Mejia wrote.

In a statement, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works said it did not "issue any tree trimming permits for 3801 Barham Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90068."

Different gates, different dimensions.

Is gategate already a thing? I dunno, so imma write about it anyway. I know that there is already speculation that Henry was not sent to the Upside Down, and I was rewatching season 1 when I noticed something, and then I noticed some more things and I have some comments...

First, let's look at the room the gate was opened in season 1:

As we know, this is when the gate was opened to the Upside Down. However, this is not the same room we see in Eleven's flashbacks in season 4, when she sent Henry through a gate into another dimension:

You could argue that they revamped the room after the massacre since they only had one kid now and don't need the big rainbow room. But the rooms are WAY too different from the size, to the shape, to the ceiling height, to the door placements.

Even the hallways leading up to both of these rooms are completely different:

Season 1 (above) ; Season 4 (below).

My point is different room = different gate = different dimension. Henry was not sent to the Upside Down.

I suspect Henry ended up in the Upside Down because Will took him there accidentally when Henry ooga booga'd him in 1x01. And, as Will likely has powers, he accidentally took them both into the Upside Down (cue the Upside Down is Will's mind theory). Henry is still able to access his dimension through his mind, but his physical body is stuck in the Upside Down.

Something else I want to address is the small gate in the tree that Nancy and Jonathan find in the woods.

I don't think this gate itself holds much significance, but I think I know how it ended up there. When El made contact with the demogorgan, the creature was doing….. something…. it's pretty hard to see because the demogorgan is covering whatever it's doing. But I think that whatever it was touching became the tree gate when Eleven made that physical connection. It was only a small gate, so it probably closed with the big gate at the end of season 2 since they were created at the same time - and everything is connected.

Or maybe it's still open and the gang use it to sneak into the Upside Down in S5...
