I genuinely believe Federico is like 90% of the reason why the central themes of emotion, humanity vs seaborn, and human connection actually work, because it would be so easy to completely ruin the message by making it a vehicle for typical "love is what makes us humans" "if you don't feel love and emotion exactly like everyone else does you're not an ACTUAL human with a SOUL!" nonsense, like to the point I'm also anxious I might end up sounding like that every time I try analyzing the seaborn conflict in any way, but thanks to Fede being written the way he is while having such a central role in Zwillingsturme and being so close with and important to Arturia we know that when she says "it has to include everyone" and when the game falls on praising human qualities and the power of human connection they don't mean "everyone who can feel normal human emotion :)" "everyone but they're gonna need to become human" but simply everyone, no one left behind, no one erased. The focus on destroying the barriers between people exists as an answer to oppression and discrimination, to bring humanity together so they can work as a whole to face adversity, not because not feeling empathy the same way Arturia does is "wrong". Even during the piano scene when Fede is shown as unable to understand why music, why art move people the way it does, despite it being a focal point of everything about Arturia and everything about the humans who stand against the Seaborn, it's never presented as a failing on his part, never presented as him being fundamentally incompatible with humanity - in fact that scene is where he learns how to approach emotion from his own angle in his own way as a form of data and it's when he grows as a person and becomes able to use it to better get Arturia despite his difficulty in conveying and "feeling" emotion. He doesn't get Sankta empathy, he values logical understanding over emotional connection, he's joked about from other characters as being more like a robot than a human, he's deliberately written as being an opposite to Arturia's unrestrained empathy, and yet he is the protagonist to Arturia's antagonist role, he is the one who understood her the most and who could support her in the finale, he's the one outsider who cared the most about fixing things in the Monastery while the "proper" Sankta were all busy dealing with their own problems or actively worsening things (hi Oren). His character arc doesn't have anything to do with him starting to "get" emotions like "real people" do but just about starting to ask questions, to find a way forward when his strict adherence to logical reasoning fails him, to interpret why he does what he does and feel the way he does, to understand why things happens and why people act certain ways, and in quite a few scenes that's precisely why he could reach a conclusion others couldn't.

His biggest scene in Hortus involves him refusing to accept Clement's position that just because the only flower left from his garden he had a deep emotional attachment to was a bit damaged and not perfect the way he grew all the others to be, the way he wanted it to be, then its survival is meaningless.

Just because Clement couldn't see the worth in the flower's existence it doesn't mean there was none for anyone.

Just like Federico was the one chosen by the Law amidst countless "perfect" Sankta well accustomed to their supernatural Empathy.

Everyone means everyone.

In the anguish of those fallen tears, came her wish fulfilled-- The Spirit of Health was born. Even as this spirit, the girl could do little to nothing, her aid not helping this illness that crept and crawled upon his very bone, like vine upon a trellis. So, with another bout of pleas, she came to the god, who listened, and for a second time, granted that same wish in a different form-- The Spirit of Death was born. That too failed, even able to bend his life into the route she wanted, the river still flowed the same. That limbo she stuck him in, it was no life, so she, for a third and final try, lamented to the deity, who took a final pity upon them, for there could be no other aid to offer. The girl had a familiar, a grand bird of mighty wing, with the property to carry on through death, to bounce back and perch once more to her being. The girl and her savior plotted, creating a plan to be fulfilled before the first arrow came flying over the castle walls. To use the host, her own beast, as a conduit for the ceaseless, hungering rot that revenged her brother.  Feed it pieces, subject and inflict, a loveless pet in deed. That solution could not utterly cure. In 20 years time, her familiar's body would expel the illness and produce that desired ichor, however she would not be with the bird long enough for that desire to come and pass. A thankless act, that deities work,  for soon there came a plot upon them. The girl and her waxing sun, not they but a HE, a masculine force far beyond their doing. Her failure of courtship, an ex lover perhaps, he came all the same; it came time to hatch a plot. To usurp a kingdom, to kill a being far beyond the flesh and human bone, to end a deity that once held itself upon the little girl, now woman's heart; it came time to end all of that rot, and pain. A bird flies, a woman weeps, and the suggestions of a ruin stand still now.  There came no aid for that diety, no wishes granted, who was to listen to their plea but the ever roaring silence of an unwavering throne. Oh sun, oh moon, oh stars above, bear witness to blessings each. She travels to find a cure to her brother's illness and her bird, whichever comes first for now. She took a graft of his skin when she left, she keeps it alive with her powers, and its her most treasured possession.

Busk is an inventive musician who possesses the ability to control the dead. He really doesn't utilize his abilities all that much though and chooses instead to spend his time playing music, inventing instruments (of the musical or mass destruction varieties, and doing drugs. Often in sequence of each other. He used to have a pet cow that passed away and now he wears her skull on his head in connection to her. He does not dare to reanimate her body because that wouldn't be her, that would just be him controlling her remains.

so what's your take on the kris hand severance prediction

Hmmmm...

So my first thought when I saw all of Susie and Noelle's 'Severed Hand' Dialogue in Chapter 4, is that it's already very applicable to what's going on.

Like... the irony of the situation is that Noelle and Susie are basically right. There is, in fact, a 'severed' independently-operating Human organ acting antagonistically to it's supposed owner in the basement.

We even started possessing Kris' SOUL when they woke up one morning.

So maybe, if The Severed Hand already is kinda equated to the SOUL... maybe it will end up being our 'Vessel'?

Like, Kris ends up losing a hand and then we end up possessing it. Essentially giving ourself a body to interact with the world and finish the Game while also freeing Kris from our constant control.

(To be honest, I was never totally into the idea that we'd just track down the Discarded Vessel and possess it. It just seemed like a far too simple and clean a solution to the complex moral problem at the center of the game. The Severed Hand is at least a more interesting and freaky idea. And since while the Hand has a bit more ability to interact with the world than the disembodied SOUL does, but not as much as Kris or the Discarded Vessel, it's also kind of a genuine sacrifice on the part of the Player for the sake of Kris' agency... While also a piece of Kris has been undeniable sacrificed for our sake.)

But also... thinking more about the other references to Kris losing their hand...

And especially the one in Chapter 3's hidden '1225' room...

With the heavy connection being drawn between Kris' hand and Dess... I've started wondering, what if Kris' hand is sorta already gone?

Basically, the scenario I'm imagining is something along the lines of; Kris was with Dess when she got Gaster'ed or whatever, they held on to her to try and save her as she was taken, but she 'slipped through their fingers.' (Just like they fail to grab the item in the ball machine, which is probably a Guitar Pick, which symbolizes Dess)

So now they feel terribly guilty about their 'failure' to save her, leading to the 'promise' to the Ominous Phone Voice of Probably Carol... And also touching Dess just as she got disappeared 'infected' their hand with a Mild Case of Metaphysical Nonexistence.

So while their hand seems Normal most of the time... it is kind of in a Quantum State of non-existence/still kinda connected to Dess wherever she has gone to. Although right now it's only evident via Weird Metaphysical Stuff like the Shadow Crystals or... whatever is up with that Ball Machine.

It's like, symbolism to how Dess' disappearance made Kris feel like they lost a part of themself and they usually can repress it and pretend that they're fine and whole... but they're not, not really. Maybe it also gives them some sort of a connection to the deeper planes of metaphysical bullshit going on in the story. Like, maybe this is why they can access the Egg Rooms?

Well, regardless of the details, if Kris really is going to lose their hand (whatever it's cause its Quantum State of Non-Existence got resolved or it just got chopped-off in the Normal Way), it would be pretty tragic for them. From what I've heard, it's not impossible... but it is a lot harder to play Piano with only one hand...

Malleus is a complex person…..he is in the best version of someone who go through an experience like his + having draconian temper. The way he turn out is much more calm and gentle than Melaenoir for sure (may be Malificia too from Lilia single line) our Mal doesn’t lash out often . He use the word Boku which interestingly gentle compare to other in his status. In some way…….I can see why Lilia think he had mature enough. If Lilia compare Mal with his mother then yeah Mal is an angel. But there is one thing that Mal different than his mother…….He bottle up his feeling…..

While he was an egg he bottle up for hundreds of yeah before throwing tantrums for Lilia attention. When he accidentally freeze the whole castle…Mal himself say that he throwing tantrums over something small like Malificia too busy to join him but may be that’s the result of repeating scenario and he brush it off. Try to act nonchalant as if he’s fine then 💥 His feeling exploded 💥💥💥

May be he never explode like that since Silver and Sebek are born/found. So atleast it’s 15 years of bottle up. He finally live a happy life with his family and first friend. A simple happiness that he never expected since he born then everything seem to be snatched away at the same time. So the explosion is the bundle of at least 15 years. I love his voice in the solo when I close my eyes and listen….it’s a sound of that infant dragon but older. So devasted so lonely and despair like you mention. I also feel like he try to grab onto things that he have. Yeah all his life the table is empty and unlike the dragon in the fairytale. He’s not the kind of dragon that want to own everything for himself. Like in hobbit that dragon just live alone guarding the treasure but Mal want a company to enjoy being alive. He’s kind and gentle boy. I will enjoy this song 🥹💚

Also you know how sometime they use goldfish tank as a metaphor to explain the feelings of an outsider? Like how a human keep the goldfish in the fish bowl and watching it every day but never able to interact or being part of the goldfish herd. I just found the scene when he put Sebek and Silver in that bubble also like that as well.

You can tell that malleus is going through a hard time.

But this coloring??? It gives a melancholy feel to it.

Then we see this scene and it explains the reason why he is feeling the way he is.

With Lilia leaving, that freedom and comfort that Malleus always sought is gone too. He’s trapped again.

He’s alone and filled with sorrow.

Which we can see in the next clip.

No one is at the table. No friends or family. Just like aurora, he’s trapped away. He only knows what’s in front of him and that’s being alone.

He didn’t even know his parents, or rather, he didn’t recognize his mother.

It’s also interesting how silver and sebek are in bubbles too

Bubbles usually portray dreams and hope. Them being green symbolizes how malleus put them to sleep.

But I also want to focus on how bubbles are also fragile hence symbolizing how short life can be.

So not only do we have Lilia leaving, we also see how Malleus knows one day he’ll lose them too.

But…bubbles also bring joy, they can be short lived, but they bring happiness all the same. The same lessons Lilia wanted to teach Malleus.

There is joy even when there is pain.

Additionally,

As Alice ( @eldritch-alicedoll) pointed out, if you reverse the sequence, it looks like the door is opening.

Which also symbolize how lilia not only hatched him, but opened his world. Brought light to his darkness. Gave him warmth to the cold. He could be happy with Lilia.

Alice also mentioned how in the beginning, the cry sounded like when malleus is born. Considering the weather and lilia being the center, we can see the parallels to that at well and the resulting despair when malleus gets taken from Lilia’s arms. The dragon in despair.

Realism ≠ No Mansion

So I saw a confession on the Creepypasta Confessions blog and I am pissed.

First off, to be clear: I’m not trying to attack anyone personally. But I am extremely tired of people throwing around takes like this and calling it “realism” because it’s not. It’s uncreative and borderline gatekeeping.

This is gonna be a long one. Buckle up:

🚫 Saying “Jeff would kill everyone”

That’s not realism. That’s avoiding the question of why he might not. You’re dodging character complexity in favor of edge.

👁 Saying “Eyeless Jack only sees others as prey”

That’s not realistic. It’s ignoring that even monstrous characters might have nuance or boundaries, or that he might recognize other cursed beings as more than meat.

🎮 Saying “BEN Drowned only sees others as pawns”

You're writing off any chance of him forming actual relationships or attachments.

🎪 Saying “Laughing Jack sees them as entertainment”

Again, yeah… until he doesn’t. What happens when the entertainment fails? What happens when he connects? Explore that.

💋 Saying “Nina only cares about Jeff”

Okay, and what about after? What about growth? What about disappointment or found family? You’re locking her character in amber.

⏰ Saying “Clockwork and Toby are too insane to get along”

So… you’ve never heard of shared trauma bonds, dissociation, or neurodivergent kinship, huh? They're more than their instability.

👧 Saying “Sally won’t trust anyone”

Great. That’s the start of a story. What about the arc? Who does she learn to trust? What brings that wall down?

🌲 Saying “Slenderman isn’t a father figure to everyone”

Sure. But why can’t he be one to someone? Who sees him that way? What does he feel about that? Explore the dissonance, not just the denial.

🔥 “Realism” Isn’t an Excuse to Be Boring

I’m sorry you couldn’t think of ways these characters might grow, clash, bond, or just coexist without stabbing each other, but don’t act like that’s realism.

Here’s some so-called “realistic” reasons for why Slenderman might have a mansion just pulled out my ass just right now:

Maybe it’s not his, it’s just a convenient base

Maybe he built it to contain or protect his proxies

Maybe a proxy built it for him

Maybe it’s just a house from when he was human, if you roll with that theory

Why might Jane and Jeff exist in the same space?

Slenderman's forcing them to

Jane’s forgiven him, Jeff doesn't have to stay evil

She’s forgotten what he did, Slenderman gave Toby amnesia why not her?

You can write any of this in a grounded, character-driven way. “Realistic” doesn’t mean “everyone is alone and evil forever.” It means understanding why they’re not.

💡 This Mindset Hurts New Creators

What pisses me off the most is that someone who wants to write a “realistic AU” might see this garbage take and think:

“Oh… I guess I can’t do that.”

YES. YOU. CAN. If you want to write a mansion AU? Do it. If you want to make them friends, enemies, exes, reluctant roommates? Go wild.

Just ask yourself why it works. Get creative. Build the bridges. Tell the story. Stop saying "this can't work." And say, "How can this work?"

Don’t let boring people kill possibility and call it "canon."

I wavered between yj and bats, but I wanted cass n duke in there so we’re going bats. the main party is Tim, Duke, Steph, and Cass.

Tim is a half elf, raised by a wealthy elf family but generally not involved in high society because of his uncertain parentage. Instead, he devoted his time to studying dungeons. Now he’s finally left home, and he’s decided he’s going to see a real dungeon lord if it’s the last thing he does. he hires Duke and Steph as bodyguards.

Duke is a human knight who rose through the ranks not because of any wealth or family connections, but for his sheer skill and dedication to doing good. despite training as a swordsman, he has a natural knack for illusory magic. He heard that the Lord of the Dungeon grants wishes, so he was planning to go in on his own using an enchanted necklace as a guide, but he accepted Tim’s offer of employment because he didn’t want to let this rich boy go in alone. if he finds the Lord of the Dungeon (who is Bruce btw) he’ll ask for the curse on his parents to be lifted.

Steph is the half-dwarf daughter of a local bandit leader. she tried to stand up to him and got her shit thoroughly rocked, so she’s doing freelance work in the dungeon for training, and with the hopes she might find some allies (and maybe sickass magic items) to help her out. she often gets underestimated because of her size, but she packs a serious punch and she inherited her mother’s dwarven constitution. it takes a lot to put her down.

Cass is a snake beastkin made by David Cain in an attempt to create the perfect assasin. she’s disgusted by black magic, and hates that she was litterally created from it. The gang meets her on their first forray into the dungeon, in which she saves them from a cockatrice and then follows them around silently for the rest of the day. she ends up very attached to Steph, who she sees as a pure and heroic ideal to strive for.

bruce has been lord for ~100 years? he initially became Lord to protect his city, but as the people started to revolt against him he became more and more isolated, until he took his closest friends and family into the dungeon and disappeared.

Babs is a sea serpent chimera on one of the upper floors. she was a gnome gifted with remarkable divinatory magic, and the daughter of the Lord’s closest friend. when she was attacked by a sea serpent and nearly killed, loosing both her legs, Bruce made her into a chimera. she hates how confined she is to the water, and she resents that Bruce calls on her for security updates 24/7. she would try to leave, but her tail is too massive for her to even attempt dragging it across land. she employs Huntress, an elf monster hunter, to take care of the monsters around her pool so it can act as a safe haven for adventures (and so she can talk to anyone other than bruce once in a while)

Damian is a Kobold. idk man he’s small and yappy. he wants to prove his worth as the inheritor of the dungeon by killing anyone who gets too close to the Lord. Jason is a failed chimera (dragon? bicorn? griffin maybe?) trapped in the lowest level of the dungeon.

The library shelves are split between Helen’s book collection, drafts, and manuscripts - and Madeline’s scripts

Helen has kept a photo of her and Mad during college in her wallet all this time, one of those strips from a photo booth

Sydcarmy´s blood deal

So, using the same knife without even washing it first was either a HUGE Health code violation, which Coco Storer wouldn´t have let slide, or a symbolic blood deal which was shown ON PURPOSE.

IMO the deal was to recognize the shortcomings each had to work on to get to a better place in their relationship.

Carmy needed to work on his communication congruence, meaning putting his money where his mouth was, actually following through and delivering on what he said, instead of saying one thing and doing another, consistently and fucking everyone up in the process because he´s UNRELIABLE, he means well, but does it wrong, so you can´t rely on him, ever. He means what he says, sure, but he doesn´t deliver consistently, so at the end of the day, you just can´t trust him. He´s acting like a child. Not mean, just immature, who can´t be trusted because of that lack of consistency and congruence that adult and effective communication, not to mention running a business or being part of a team in any project or endeavor, require.

Syd, on the other hand, needed to work on her honesty and accessibility, open up, be vulnerable with him like she was for a moment in S1 in the back alley and in S2 under the table.

Syd doesn´t lack honesty because she lies, but because for her communication to be effective, she needs to open up more and let him in, when Carmy wants to connect with her and brings up more personal stuff that exceed their strictly professional relationship in a bonding attempt that is meant to improve their rapport both in and outside the restaurant. He was, as usual, checking on her and being open with her, in one of the few moments throughout the season where we got a more human glimpse of who he is underneath all that rough and robotic exterior that simboliizes his inner and almost constant struggle between the man and the beast that he can be simultaneously or alternatively. His humanity is brought up by her, maybe not as often in S3, but surely, and his animal-like behavior was brought up by his quest to deliver on the only words he was ever truly congruent with, last season:

So till last season, they were still stuck in the same conflict they had been dragging since S1: She doesn´t feel heard by him, he doesn´t feel she will ever really accept him (aka: be good enough for her) unless he proves himself to her, that´s why he´s obsessed with giving her that star and self-boycots, because he´s at the same time afraid of failing at it, and thus, let her down AGAIN and lose his only chance to win her over, because without giving her a restaurant, a partnership, financial stability, a role as CDC, and a Michelin star, he can´t even begin to fathom he will be worthy of her ever seeing him as something other than a Chef, the most excellent CDC at the most excellent restaurant in the United States of America, a title he dreads because it brings him bad memories. He wants to be seen by her like a man and a potential prospect for a more "personal" connection, that´s why he´s always trying to bond with her and get her to open up every chance he gets, which aren´t many, and she keeps, most of the times, not letting him in.

The common denominators here are the 3 Cs:

COMMUNICATION

CONGRUENCE

CONSISTENCY

In that order, and they BOTH have to work on all 3.

So, when they shared that bloody knife, they sealed the deal of acknowledging that the other was right about demanding what they did because they both UNDERSTOOD each other. He understood she was right in pointing out his communication was fucked and was fucking everyone else up.

She understood he was checking on her and trying to connect on a different level, other than just professional. She showed him she understood that by asking him about how it was going with the whole "quit smoking thing" and trying to "get a taste of him",

showing she cared. Syd was trying to follow his lead in that "bonding" exercise, even when she didn´t like it at all.

She did it for him, to prove to him that for that moment at least, they were on the same page.

And when they try and put in the MUTUAL effort at the same time, they do re-connect briefly. They take turns at work and THEY WORK.

Just like they did for a short period of time here:

That alternation and clear and consistent communication is what works for them, even if it means talking about things that are not working, and it gets uncomfortable at times. When they talk it out like this, things work, and when they stop doing it, it ends up badly for both of them.

This symbolic deal they made and sealed with blood is the key to all that they will achieve in S4, all the conflicts that they keep dragging along, unsolved issues that so far have been holding them back in every aspect of their relationship, and therefore they will keep their words, they will apply the 3 Cs and get rid of the 4th one.

I wholeheartedly believe Carmy is telling Syd all of this; it´s his plea to get her to stay at the restaurant. He will speak the truth, as always, and THIS TIME AROUND HE WILL DELIVER AND FOLLOW THROUGH and SHE WILL FINALLY REALLY OPEN UP TO HIM (AND HIS FAMILY)

and as a result they will "bond" outside the restaurant as well and she will start seeing him as more than a chef and co-worker, she will start seeing and appreciating the man that Carmen Berzatto really is.

And all that can only lead to a SYDCARMY ENDGAME. PERIOD.

10 Flaws to Give Your Perfect Characters to Make Them Human

If you're tired of the usual vices like arrogance or impatience, here are some unique (or at least less basic) character flaws to give your perfect characters: 

Pathological Altruism

A character so obsessed with helping others that they end up doing more harm than good. Their inability to let others grow or face consequences creates tension.

2. Moral Narcissism

A character who sees themselves as morally superior to others, constantly justifying selfish or harmful actions because they believe they have the moral high ground.

3. Chronic Self-Sabotage

A character who intentionally undermines their own success, perhaps due to deep-seated feelings of unworthiness, pushing them into frustrating, cyclical failures.

4. Emotional Numbness

Rather than feeling too much, this character feels too little. Their lack of emotional response to critical moments creates isolation and makes it difficult for them to connect with others.

5. Fixation on Legacy

This character is obsessed with how they’ll be remembered after death, often sacrificing present relationships and happiness for a future that’s uncertain.

6. Fear of Irrelevance

A character-driven by the fear that they no longer matter, constantly seeking validation or pursuing extreme measures to stay important in their social or professional circles.

7. Addiction to Novelty

Someone who needs constant newness in their life, whether it’s experiences, relationships, or goals. They may abandon projects, people, or causes once the excitement fades, leaving destruction in their wake.

8. Compulsive Truth-Telling

A character who refuses to lie, even in situations where a lie or omission would be the kinder or more pragmatic choice. This flaw causes unnecessary conflict and social alienation.

9. Over-Identification with Others' Pain

Instead of empathy, this character feels others' pain too intensely, to the point that they can’t function properly in their own life. They’re paralyzed by the suffering of others and fail to act effectively.

10. Reluctant Power

A character who fears their own strength, talent, or influence and is constantly trying to shrink themselves to avoid the responsibility or consequences of wielding it.

What if Danny is introduced to the family not as a gremlin, but as his friend from community College and he is so freaking normal that it makes the entire family suspicious. The only reason Jason decided to bring him along is that he knows Danny seems too normal for their cohort and it will utterly freak out Bruce and Tim, confuse Grayson and set off Damian. Jason though, he knows Danny is only normal for the first few times of interaction, then he starts getting weird even by Bat Family standards.

Jason: Hey. I brought my friend from campus tonight.

Danny: Hi! Nice to meet you!

Bat family: *suspicious eyes* Nice to meet you.

Danny: I totally didn't believe Jason when he said he was one of 5 kids but he proved me wrong. Lol.

Bat family: How'd you meet Jason?

Danny: OH! He's been tutoring me in English class and I've been helping him with Calculus. We met at the library when I was trying but failing to type a paper and ended up irritating him with my groaning. He walked right over asked me to shut up and I apologized and said I was having difficulty *insert English homework here* and he had a look utter disgust and surprise and said "how the fuck are you having problems with that?"

Jason: I was disgusted. That was such an easy topic.

Danny: For you maybe! Anyways I said "Well if it's so fucking easy, explain it to me. And he did! With way better clarity then my professor. So I thanked him and asked what I could do in exchange for help. He then told to stay fucking quiet o he can work on his stuff. And we went on about our business. A week later we were both back in the library again and he was banging his head, so I went over and asked if he was okay and he yelled to leave him alone and he just as I was about to leave I noticed he was working on calculus and told Jim I could help if he wanted. He looked at me like I was insane.

Jason: I was cause you are. Most people don't ask to help after being yelled and cursed at.

Danny: But you had helped me on my english paper! I wanted to return the favor! This happened a few more times before it became normal to meet at the library and work together!

The batfamily is reeling at this strangely normal and meet cute type story and the fact that Jason was going to college and nobody knew somehow (Alfred knew).

After meeting Danny, they stalk him to see if he was acting normal or trying to mess with Jason or Jason manipulated someone normal to mess with them. The first while Danny seems perfectly normal and innocent but after a while they start getting a feeling of something off about Danny like he was both him and not. They also notice that Jason tends to stay calmer when he is around Danny. As they realize he is weird and they slowly figure it out, they actually get less anxious about Danny. As someone not quite normal or human in Danny's case was far more comforting for them then anyone of them managing to befriend an actual normal civilian with no apparent baggage or extreme homelife. A
