SENSORY NIGHTMARE BEAR 馃樋馃檧
Tumblr media
i've just realised i probably KNOW now why i refused to touch this smokey back in the early/mid 1960s
HIS FUR IS A SENSORY NIGHTMARE!
MY smokey had short soft curly fur (much of which was rubbed away by 1963/64 ish). and gramma told me the new one was exactly the same. but nooooooo
i picked up younger smokey the other day to figure out how to draft a pattern, & the more i touched his fur, the worse it felt.馃槺鈽狅笍
i was shuddering away from the poor ol bear and it took me time to figure out why! the fur is slightly stiffer and coarser and straight. i mean, probably FINE for someone without beaucoup sensory issues + very fragile skin.
that person is not me.
SO, i think for aziraphale & crowley & logi bear & wade kitty, i'll use some undyed flannel i have & try to make the same shaped bear that way, but COMFY. the whole point is that they are meant to be comforting when i'm too weak &/or too sick to get up, hurting so much i can't get around &/or focus, too nauseous, etc.
can i manage 4 bears? probably not before the body gives up. but i can try. right? right???
anybody know if there's something you can put in a bear that you can record comfort stuff on and then press it? like wade saying "it's fine" or az saying "dream of whatever you like best" or etc???
argh.

TSUM PATTERN!!!
retested it after digitizing to make sure all the seams are in order, and everything's looking fine imo :3 here's a tsum made with this pattern with susato tsum for comparison:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's the pattern, formatted for A4 size paper :>> guides are for lining the pieces up + ears/limbs placement
if you wanted to be really accurate with printing out the pattern: in my experience, setting the custom scale to 100% in the page setup will get the ruler on the page to be 1:1 with a real life ruler
Tumblr media
additionally: if you want the tsum to be as close as possible to official ones, they use non-stretchy fabrics for the underside part of the tsum. i only have minky but ironing on some lightweight fusible before sewing the pieces together made it non-stretchy ^^
it looks to me like they used a very thin faux suede with fusible interfacing for some structure (i could be wrong though as 1) i am not an expert in identifying fabrics and 2) i only took apart klavier tsum and no one else. but everyone else that i own seems to use the same fabric for the underside).
they also have a little bag of filler beads inside that weigh around 14.5g (bag they were in included), and the stuffing was ~8g if you wanna be REALLY accurate. anyway. enjoy!
EDIT: forgot to add that the collar pieces are more of a size/sewing guide so they'd fit onto the tsum in case your character has any clothing with lapels/collars and are meant to be changed according to your design! the smaller piece is the little piece between the face and the underside while the bigger piece is for the "lapels" (so in retrospect i should've named it that but whatever.) here's how they'd look like on the tsums for reference in case i'm not explaining well LOL

I think Astrid Hofferson has a bad case of the 'my childhood was wasted, I grew up too fast for something ultimately proven pointless.' Syndrome and that she deserves to get to do silly things she missed out on and take up new hobbies, even if she's not particularly good at them鈥搃t's purely for the experience yknow, and learn to finally breathe no longer needing to be on constant high alert and get to be truly happy

The giant ant is complete, and it turned out so much better than I鈥檇 even imagined! It鈥檚 also surprisingly easy to comfortably carry around, which I did not expect

I didn't get the sewing job
I just.
why do I even keep going. nothing's ever going to change and nothing's ever going to work out and nobody's ever going to fucking want me
I'm going to get old working part-time jobs with no house and no family and no fucking future
and the economy's about to tank with Tr*mp so if I don't get something before that happens it's never going to
what's even the point honestly. when nothing ever-

Knitting a freehand bag and started wondering how often people even use patterns, anyway. So--how often do you use a pattern when you make things ? This include knitting/crochet/sewing/weaving/nalbinding/bobbin lace/tatting/etc but also things like woodworking, cooking, and baking. If you want to just pick the thing you do most often that's fine.
I personally do not use patterns as I find them far more confusing than just figuring out the construction of an item and simply making it. I do very occasionally browse ravelry for inspiration but have downloaded maybe 2. In the 5 or so years since I joined. And have followed exactly 1, which I modified every single aspect of. In my defense, dyslexia.

tip for people doing embroidery/sewing gifts or projects: if you're using heat-erasible pens (look them up they're amazing), but you can't use your iron on the project for whatever reason? hit'em with a hair dryer on the low setting for like ten seconds or until you see the marks disappear.

making tiny snowglobe grace was a mistake bc i've cursed myself with the craft bug again. i need to make things or i'm gonna explode
gonna try & finally delve into making little posable dolls out of fabric & clay like i've thought about for Years but always been too afraid to try so i'm off to the craft store to bankrupt myself. wish me luck
