Note: Idk it’s cold in the mornings now and that makes me think about him too much. Trying out a new header situation too, I guess?

“Tsukki?”

A confused rasp stills him as he’s pacing through the living room, down the hall, and back up again. Outlined by the flickering tv screen, he sees a nest of hair poke up over the back of the couch.

“Y’ok?”

The gravelly timbre of your exhaustion weighs down each syllable, the edges of each word melding into one another over the tinny sound of some cooking show rerun.

After weeks together, the two of you have finally grown accustomed to sharing space. The living room is evidence of that — his half-built lego set, your cups (yes, multiple cups) of water, his clean jerseys, both your books, they all lay strewn across its surfaces. Kei’s finally stopped cloistering himself in his room, and you, you’ve moved past the pretense, no longer tip-toeing around him or bothering to look “presentable” around the house (not that he ever cared).

Actually, he likes you better like this — mussed hair, ratty house clothes, unguarded, at ease. It’s a secret little sliver of you that nobody else gets to see and he wants to hold it tight against his chest.

Instead of answering you, Tsukishima rubs his bleary eyes.

He’s been drifting through the apartment a lot these days, mostly in the early hours. Restless. Cold.

His toes are freezing and the tips of his fingers are icy as he curls them into his palms. You keep the apartment too chilly for him, but he never touches the thermostat. Not when you always look so inviting, all cozy and bundled in an oversized blanket. Yes, inviting. Even now, when you’re clearly pissed that you’re still awake, and so worn out that your face is crumpled into a tight grimace.

Three days ago, he admitted to himself that he’s hurtled past the line of friendship with you.

If he’s honest, he passed it a long time ago, and living with you has only forced him to come to terms with that fact. He’s sprinted far beyond a passing crush, barreling straight into whatever this is. Whatever it is that has you swimming across the inside of his eyelids whenever he closes his eyes. Whatever it is that compels him to pace the length of your apartment at night, slowing his steps when he nears your door, lifting his hand to the doorknob before hastening away, only to spin around the next minute and do it all over again.

It’s not cowardice. It’s not. It’s just…

Tsukishima stares at your huddled form. There’s a hint of impatience in the tilt of your chin, but mostly, you look concerned. Beneath your joking barbs and prickly exterior, you’ve always been concerned about him. That’s why he’s even here, trying not to inconvenience you further while his landlord fixes the leak in his apartment. It was supposed to take a few days, then a week, but now it’s been almost a month with no news, and he thinks he should just find a new place to live. But even when he’s snippy and seething about the whole thing, you’ve been gentle with him, letting him stay in your office-slash-guest room without paying a cent of rent (though he’s tried to insist on it many times), and bringing home treats to share after work (“They were having a sale!”).

It wouldn’t be right to force his feelings on you when you’ve been nothing but generous.

(What he can’t admit is that he doesn’t want this to end, for you to shut the door on whatever this is, once and for all.)

Plus, he’s seen you with Tadashi and Yachi and even Kyoutani, and you’re like that with all your friends. It’s not like you’re sweet on him. You’re just sweet. But he’s not sure how much longer he can stand to be stuck in limbo, unable to tell you and unable to not tell you.

The heat finally kicks on and Kei’s reminded that he’s cold. Freezing, actually, and haggard from lack of sleep. But he also puts on a bit of a show, rubbing his arms and shivering theatrically (why, he’s not sure).

“You’re cold,” you state dumbly, after staring at him for too long. “Do you want…?”

There’s less hesitation in your voice than he expects as you sit up a little to lift the corner of the blanket.

Maybe exhaustion was the final push he needed. He rushes over — before you change your mind (before he changes his) — and slips under the blanket.

Stiffening, you utter a bewildered noise.

Ah, shit.

Shit. Maybe not. Did he- You were offering the blanket to him, not telling him to get in with you. Obviously. Obviously. Fuck. Should he double down? Should he back off? Should he-

You stir again, and the weight of your head drops heavy onto his shoulder. (Is this…?) Tsukishima hardly dares to breathe as you pull him close and cradle your hands against his chest. He’s lightheaded, giddy as he tucks in the edges of the blanket, making sure to completely cover you both. He’s careful with his ice-cold hands, too, avoiding your bare skin as he wraps his arms around you.

Your exhales fan hot against the crook of his neck, and slowly, slowly, they deepen.

Eventually, drowsiness overcomes him too. After the frantic pattering of his heart has subsided, and after the bright red flush on his cheeks has faded. After the feathery wisps of dawn unfurl from behind the curtains, he cracks his heavy eyelids open one last time to look down at you, nestled tightly against him. Your face is slack, your lips gently parted, chest rising and falling in time with his.

Kei knows that tomorrow, when you’ve both had a good night’s sleep, you’ll have to talk about this.

He tightens his hold.

Tomorrow, whatever this is, you’ll cross that bridge together.

hawo! i saw ur post about the xreader thing and uh… i go by she/her, im a stem girlie if that helps, i like arts and volleyball, i used to game a lot but im trying to lessen it cuz its becoming a bad habit, i like reading and music too, and i bake/cook when im not feeling lazy or am particularly stressed about something, and i guess im pretty quiet? like, i come off as intimidating to a lot of people but im literally just generally anxious 😭 i get hyperfixated on random stuff and get distracted easily + find studying very very super hard and boring but am in honors somehow. i care a lot about my family but i have trouble forming connections outside of childhood friends and stuff, thats the gist of me. i would love headcanons with kageyama or kenma! Kageyama Tobio:

oh my guy is also very much someone who gets very hyperfixated on stuff, chances are once u become close enough, both of you would start rambling/infodumping onto each other and would accidentally get into whatever the other one is hyperfixated on lmfao. like one day you'd come up to him and just ramble for 15 mins about some historical event and next day he would call you at 2am and go "GIRL THATS NOT EVEN THE FULL STORY GUESS WHAT I LEARNT ABOUT THAT" and viceversa.

since both of you are on the quieter side, chances are you might not speak every single day, but whenever you do speak, you could spend hours doing nothing but that. he's a very pleasant person to have long talks with and he would always be super interested in whatever you talk to him about

he's dumb as bricks when it comes to school stuff and struggles to study as much as you– but since you get good grades, he would come to you for help. which would lead to VERY chaotic but thoroughly enjoyable studying sessions lol.

he would always be so eager to play volleyball with you, regardless of how good you are. if you're on a lower level than him, he would tease you about it but also be very patient and explain everything to you a thousand times if need be (in his own way of course, which would probably include at least a few insults each time, but it's all in good nature)

he would very much enjoy just watching you draw/paint in silence or while listening to music. he finds it fascinating & very calming

he would go ABSOLUTELY WILD if you ever paint/draw a portrait of him. im talking like "weak to the knees, teary eyes & needs at least 1-5 business days to process it" type of emotional

Kozume Kenma:

oh girl he would be TERRIBLE for your gaming addiction lmfao

however!! if you are motivated enough to get better with that, you would probably try to get him to form healthier habits too and he would resist, but ultimately try to listen to you.

you would both probably spend hours straight just enjoying each other's company, not really talking that much, just doing your own thing (him gaming & you painting/reading etc)

he would be so shy whenever he includes you in streams and people say you two look cute together

whenever he's tired but still wants to spend time with you, he would love laying down with his head on your lap while you read for him and play with his hair

his way of showing affection would be to ask you to play his new fav videogame with him, or join him in streams, or send you playlists with music he thinks you would like

he would also play songs you like on the background of his treams and get fricking demonetized all the time because of it, but he still does it

he also tries to comission you to make his pfps/headers and pics for streams (he would get so shy and happy when you say that yes, boyfriend privileges include free drawings, indeed)

2. Talk about a notable time a narrative or character has looked you dead in the eyes and sad "fuck your plan, here's what we're actually doing."

basically ALL kuroken and daisuga scenes in Unravel -- they were not supposed to be such major parts of it but they took over as I wrote them and read more of them. especially the last kuroken chapter where kuroo almost dies lol. also in kintsukuroi, Kenma was not supposed to be sa'd -- that literally came out of nowhere. also in thantophobia: turquoise chapter 4 was a huge surprise, especially the scene with the cop.

11. What's something neat you've learned while doing research for something you're writing? Also, how much do you worry about doing research in general?

okay I don't know if this counts but I was researching Japanese funeral rites for the stars are already dead and I found this one article talking about cremation and it said "In a Japanese style cremation, the coffin is placed on a tray in the crematorium. The family then witnesses the sliding of the body into the cremation chamber, scarring small children for life." And while I am not judging and fully believe this, the way this is written absolutely SENT me and I always think about it.

I do try to do basic research on things, especially because I mostly write for anime that takes place in Japan. I try to look into specific customs and places, but I'm usually not too specific. With the Unravel series, there is also a lot of medical and jury stuff, and I actually do a lot of research on healing times and severity of injuries now. I also do research on characters, looking for little details about them that I could include in a throw away comment (like Mattsun working at a funeral home post time skip, so he easily could tell what the zombies were)

19. What are some books or authors that influenced your style the most?

ohhhh this one is hard. Honestly, I don't read much other than fanfiction nowadays ':) I'm a poetry fan because I like the pretty way words can paint a picture and try to be somewhat poetic with my writing sometimes, so I'm a big fan of Keats, Mary Oliver, Wordsworth. Virginia Woolf is frustrating but I love her, and Sylvia Plath (The Bell Jar). Ocean Vuong is another author I love right now.

SIGF is my favourite fanfic writer, she's amazing at fire emblem stuff, and I always have her in the back of my mind when I'm writing and aspire to write as well as she does. A couple other fanfic writers inspiring me include luneiris, just_quintessentially_me, ChaoticFriendly, Mooifyourecows, to name a few (gotta stop before this turns into a rec list lol)

He may seem like the big bad Tsukishima, but let’s be honest. He’s absolutely enchanted by you! Honestly, he may seem like the “bad guy” but only to everybody else! He adores you, that’s final. <3

He’s the overprotective type, toxic, obsessive. But in some points - more than most - he is a worshipper. Kei gets so much pleasure from watching you have a good time doing anything. Tsukki wants you to use him, in anyway,

His pet names can go from: hot stuff, baby, babe and in private: goddess.

He gloats to you to literally everybody. You read a book? Be prepared for everybody to know, you could literally kill somebody and he’d still think you were the cutest thing ever.

Kei does take it into his own hands to get rid of the parasites that hurt you. Hurt you basically means they don’t think you’re interesting, good looking basically if they say “bad stuff” (in his words.) that could possibly offend you if you ever were to find out.

Tsukishima will sadly manipulate you just a little bit out of going outside! It’s all for your own good. Probably.. but at least you can go out at Christmas and your Birthday! He took you to Disney even though it was probably the most expensive thing he’s ever done.

It was all worth it for those giggles, smiles, happy teary eyes and everything else. He of course gets you a cute little pink headband, with sparkles, as well as a cupcake of your choice.

Tsukki is willing to wait hours just for fast passes! If it means you’re happy, he’d do anything, honestly. No is a word he’s never said to you, unless it can hurt you. But even then he gets you a present just to make you feel better. <3
