Guys, my 30s are officially over!

I know some of you are scared of turning 30 in the first place and society likes to make us think that life is pretty much over at that point, so here are my 10 favourite things about my 30s:

1. Met some wonderful people and made new friends

2. Got my Master's degree and finally left student life behind me

3. Found a stable and decent paying job I don't hate, with wonderful colleagues

4. Finally didn't have to worry about money anymore, paid off all my debts and can afford nice things for the first time in my life

5. Travelling!! In my 20s I had neither the money nor the confidence to travel anywhere, let alone travel across Italy on my own for 2 weeks. In my 30s I did lots of travelling (including many trips on my own) and it gave me so many good memories, broadened my horizon and helped me grow as a person.

6. I became more confident. Now there's still room for improvement and growth here, but compared to 10 years ago, I feel so much happier in my own skin and I can do things I wouldn't have believed I could do 10 years ago (like the travelling, but also things like speaking at a conference in front of hundreds of people).

7. My mental health got so much better. Again, there's still work to be done, but compared to my 20s I've felt much more stable, don't have panic attacks anymore, less anxiety about the future, know my issues better and can navigate them much better than before.

8. I started to actually feel like an adult (kind of). What I mean by that is that I feel less overwhelmed by normal life stuff, I feel like I (mostly) have my life under control and I don't feel like I'm just faking it anymore. And that, in turn, makes me feel calmer and more secure.

10. I've found new hobbies and interests, and revived old ones that I didn't have time for in my 20s. Like learning Italian, British theatre and writing. So, more things in my life that bring me joy ❤

I'm curious what my 40s will bring! 🥰

40 Isn't Too Bad

I turned 40 yesterday, and it isn't as bad as I feared. I am determined to make my 40s a positive thing. My teens and 20s were awful, and filled with so much self hate and horrible experiences. My 30s were spent trying to deal with the after math, including getting help with health issues, and clearing old debts I had ignored.

The good thing about my 30s is that I learned how to be comfortable with who I am, in my gender and sexuality, and feeling more secure about what kind of person I want to present to the world. And, I think I am going to let my 40s be the period where I don't care what other people think, I am who I am and if you don't like it, good bye.

Simple.

Finding 40 (And Some Purpose)

Finding out your life actually is the one you've always wanted.

I turned 40 this year, and I dragged my unwilling feet up to the big day with dread. It wasn’t because I became farsighted literally overnight. I’ve always wanted the option of a cute pair of scholarly glasses. It wasn’t because of the slow spread of wrinkles across my sun-damaged face. I finally Botoxed most of those away, and my sun damage is still masquerading as a lingering tan from my most recent adventure.

Was looking at refs and since Viktor has two different leg braces I was wondering, do we think he wears them simultaneously?? The refs don't perfectly line up perspective-wise so it's hard to tell but parts of the one he wears during the Hexcore scenes look like they could maybe line up with the brace that he wears over his clothes, but also some parts really don't and look like they'd be super uncomfy. Also HOW does he take these on and off. Experts weigh in

My final 40 things list.

It started as a laundry list of ideas though. I found people who were doing the same thing and I was inspired by some of the things they included on their list. Some were very specific to their particular context and geographical location so I chose the ones which are more generic and which I could relate to and then eventually filtered the list to 40 items.

my 40th birthday is coming up in a few weeks and the dread i feel about it is more or less the consequence of spending most of my life investing in transactional friendships to feel mildly popular for an ephemeral amount of time only to be faced with disappointment that folks do not care about me as a whole person, but just as a general product for limited use because that’s kinda how i started a lot of friendships on my end as well only to not feel great about how the people at those tables treated others and well that’s the bed i’ve made leading to four decades and no social connections to show for it wowie zowie.
