The Application of Custom-Built Hot and Cold Mirrors
Optical mirrors are commonly used for a wide range of specialized applications in various industries. Experts in the astronomy, metrology, engineering, aerospace, and life sciences utilize these reflective mirrors for various purposes.
These quality mirrors—both hot and cold mirrors—are used for a number of applications including illumination, beam redirection, imaging, and interferometry. Optical mirrors offer industry experts the ability to boost the precision of their practices, improve the quality of their experiments, gain more reliable results, and enjoy better performance.
Hot Mirrors
These specialized dielectric mirrors are used to reflect light back to its source; they separate visible light from heat. Produced with high quality Borosilicate-type Glass, these durable mirrors are coated with a thin dielectric film that reflects infrared radiation (IR).
Unlike what its name suggests, hot mirrors don’t reflect heat itself. By reflecting IR and UV and transmitting visible light, hot mirrors offer efficient thermal energy blocking.
Hot mirrors are often utilized in applications where waste heat can cause considerable damage to components and have an adverse reaction on other characteristics on the illumination source.
With a thickness of about 3.3mm, hot mirrors reflect about 90 percent of the infrared radiation and transmit about 80 percent of visible light. Offering a high operating temperature—of up to 400°C in some cases—typical applications of hot mirrors include:

Cold Mirrors
The other type of specialty mirror used in industrial applications is cold mirrors. These dielectric mirror works to separate infrared radiation from the non-IR elements. What sets cold mirrors apart from hot mirrors is that they transmit infrared heat energy and reflect light energy.

Aluminium checker plate thickness
Recently some customers asked about questions of aluminium checker plate thickness. Some found that the plates they bought are too thick to be installed perfectly in given areas.
In fact, aluminium checker plate are divided by surface pattern types. Generally, there are large five-bar aluminum plates, small five bar aluminum plates, diamond aluminum checker plates and lenticular pattern aluminum plates. The thickness of all these plates can be obtained by a math formula: the thickness of the bottom substrate + the surface pattern thickness = total thickness. But sometimes suppliers do not include pattern thickness in their specification list, since patterns are only ornaments sometimes. And there is an industrial rule that the thickness of surface patterns should not be less than 0.2 times of that of base plates. For example, if a base plate is 3mm, then its pattern should be at least 0.6mm thick or more.
The base plate of a 3mm large five bar aluminium checker plate is usually around 2.7mm thick, and its five-bar pattern 0.5mm to 0.7mm thick. Therefore, the total thickness of such a five bar plate ranges between 3.23mm and 3.3mm.
Measurement Methods of Aluminium Checker Plate Thickness
A. Measure the base plate section with a ruler;
B. Measure repeatedly different sections of a plate
C. Do math to obtain the average number, which turns out to be the thickness of the aluminium checker plate.
An aluminium checker plate is embossed on the surface of the aluminum plate by mechanical equipment, so that the surface of the aluminum plate and the aluminum plate appears embossed. It is used for decoration of the bottom of ships and cars, bus steps, bathroom floors, etc. The patterned aluminum plate is beautiful, light, and non-slip , Good preservative effect and other advantages.

The UNO range of thermometers is designed to satisfy all OEM requirements and has a wide selection of infrared radiation thermometers available.
Each series of thermometers offers a choice of built-in time functions – peak picker or averager; and a range of temperature spans and operating wavebands to ensure optimum accuracy of measurement for the chosen industry and application.
The standard range of UNO thermometers feature precision through-the-lens sighting with focusable optics, which guarantees exact viewing and measurement of the smallest of target areas.
Adjustable emissivity/non-greyness compensation, peak picker and averager time functions are built-in as standard.
The thermometer provides a 4 to 20 mA linear output. Thermometer type, temperature range, spectral response and optical characteristics are chosen to suit the particular application.
Radiation Thermometers
The thermometers utilize proven reliable electronics combined with a high quality optical system to provide accurate, dependable temperature measurement.
They are housed in a rugged die cast body with a high quality electrical connector to provide reliable performance.
The single wavelength and ratio thermometers all feature throughthe-lens sighting with a 6° field of view. Adjustable focus with a circular graticule gives precise alignment on to the smallest of targets.
Two optical variants are available: Standard and Short-focus. Close focus lenses are also available permitting measurement of targets as small as 0.45mm/0.017in. Ask for separate leaflet for full information.
Fibroptic Thermometers
Fibroptic thermometers utilize a flexible fibre optics light guide enabling the detector and electronics enclosure to be located in a less hostile environment.
The fibroptic thermometers are available with an optional built-in laser targeting system which defines the target spot for accurate sighting.
The use of fibre optics permits viewing of normally inaccessible targets, where there are high magnetic fields or in high ambient temperatures up to 200°C/400°F without cooling of the optic head. There is a choice of three optic heads and three light guide lengths.
Peak Picker
The peak picker function is used when measuring the temperature of intermittent targets or where the hot target surface is obscured by cool areas such as scale on rolled steel. The peak picker decay rate is adjustable from 1.5 to 30% of span per second.
The peak picker function can be reset from a remote switch connected to the DPU.
Averger
The averager function is used to smooth unwanted variations or rapidly fluctuating changes in the thermometer signal to maintain a valid temperature reading.
The averager time constant can be adjusted from 5ms (U1 and U2 thermometers) to 5 seconds to give a smooth temperature display.
