Now that I'm interacting with the pjo Fandom, I've seen a lot of posts talking about camp half-blood, the weirdest thing about them is how most of you use "cabin mates" or some variation of it. Like... cabin mates??? Do you mean their siblings?????? The people they share a parent with????? 😭😭

Can you do an imagine for Unclaimed! reader being claimed by Hestia as her demigod child and they're taken in by Hestia's Priestesses/Flamekeepers, and reader adorns their veil as a niqab? Reader is from the ages of 11-12.

DISCLAIMER: I have seen and interacted those who have worn a niqab but I do not wear a Niqab nor am I part of the Muslim community. I only had bare information from sheer exposure as an outsider, when I was writing this so take this with a grain of salt and hopefully it was alright.  edit: welp, didn't realize I clicked "post it" and not queuing it, so uh, you guys get an extra ask this week.

When you’re claimed as Hestia’s child, everything seems to stop. You had arrived camp for a while now but since you weren’t the age of 13 yet, the oath Percy Jackson made the gods take to claim their children had not gone into effect. So it was a surprise to see you were claimed and by Hestia herself, a virgin goddess no doubt.

This probably takes place after your time at Camp, seeing and interacting with the Flameskeepers around camp and you felt more at home with them then the idea of being another god’s child. This also came ahead as you asked many flamekeepers what its like and if you could join. Your last conversation was with a little girl who looked to be 8 years old, who was stoking the flames in the early morning.

Despite this, there were faces of knowing and nodding amongst the other faces of confusion before the campfire rose high and bright. Embers were flying yet weren’t burning anyone as they floated upwards like fireflies.

There was a murmur, the braying of a donkey then people were coming up to you, and that’s when you noticed they were wearing very similar veils. It was a modest brown-red veil made of simple material that had a orange glow from the fire, but what set them apart were the various embroidering on each of them and how they were worn; from a simple off shoulder, over their heads, around their necks, around their waists, in the form of hijabs, Al-Amaria, and so forth.

They called out your name as they spoke, “Lady Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth, of Home and Family, of the Sacred and sacrificial fire, and State has heard your prayers and welcomes you to the opportunity as one of Hestia’s Priestesses, and we are the flamekeepers of Hestia.”

They smiled warmly at you, greeting you before guiding you gently to the parting people. In front of you was a donkey, decorated before it showed its saddle. The veiled company helped you on the donkey before they began to lead you and the donkey to a direction, music playing around you. They carried torches lit by the fire, allowing your pathway to be lit.

You were led to Hestia’s cabin, a fire already roaring as they gave you your favourite drink and snack as they explain that you are not Hestia’s direct child as she is a virgin goddess, she does claim others as her own when they are lost or looking for a place around the fire. There’s still a chance you could be claimed by your real godly parent but given your desire and determination, Hestia has claimed you in a sense.

They let you work on a probation period just to be sure if you really want to be a flame keeper after you’ve done some work alongside them, and you agreed. The weeks passed as you felt more intune with a sense of safety, warmth, and community among the flamekeepers.

Even when the probation period had come, you decided to continue and there was a massive yet modest feast cooked by all the flamekeepers that were of your favourite foods and drinks, celebrated around the fire.

That was when you were handed your own veil, weaved together with the help of all the other flamekeepers and blessed by Hestia. You were told it doesn’t matter how you wear the veil as long as you are comfortable. You duck out to change out to change in privacy as you parted and smoothed down your hair, and began to wrap the soft yet durable fabric around your head and hair. You continued to wear it as a Niqab, that provided a sense of security and warmth, especially as you pinned it together.

You were later asked by the senior flameskeeper if you wished to have more pins and clamps, or require any gloves to go with your Niqab and if you had any concerns to come to them so they can work something out with the children of Hephaestus to fashion new accessories and materials. You were also told that when you wear the veil of Hestia, you are protected and no one can ever harm you nor take off your veil from your person without permission because you are now one of the Flamekeepers, priestesses of Hestia as part of their community.

Leo hesitantly reaches for a slice, careful to pick a small one, and shakes his head as Rob grabs the remote.

“It’s an absolute banger from like ninety years ago. Do you think it would be tough to watch?” he continues, selecting his own piece. As he does, he wordlessly stacks another slice onto Leo’s plate and fills his cup with soda. “Drink that,” Rob says. “Doctors agree it’s a health food.”

Leo smiles and shakes his head, and Rob bumps his shoulder into Leo’s, taking the cup for himself. “Suit yourself,” he says. 

“Is it…” Leo asks, reading the description of the movie. “Is it very graphic? Do you think I’ll be okay?”

In reality, neither of them know. At this point, Rob is, at least generally, aware of Leo’s past. Still, he doesn’t know the details of Ivan’s contract, but, Leo thinks, he’s probably pieced enough of it together from the details that Leo has shared. 

“Well,” Rob says. “There’s the slavery, then there’s the sexual assault, and then there’s the forcing people to fight each other, sometimes to the death, for the entertainment of the rich…” He trails off, narrowing his eyes, and picks a different movie.

Hey Hattie :) How do you usually come up with/write your stories? Like for example, do you get an idea and start to plan the whole fic around it until the end, or do you just start and go about it as you write? Do you listen to music while writing? And do you write for more than one fic simultaneously or focus on one fic at a time? Does it take you long to edit?

Hope those aren't silly questions, I'm just really curious cause I'm genuinely in love with your writing and to me, your writing style is so perfectly flowing, captivating and unique, I haven't come across many other fics that I enjoyed as much as yours (I read and loved all of your bsd fics and treasure them so much) <3

First, I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my BSD fics! I know I’ve wandered a bit afield, but I still consider it my home fandom and plan to get back to it once my brain can latch back onto the manga. I nosedived into a new hyperfixation at the same time that I hit “I think I’d rather catch up to this all at once than try to figure out wtf is happening” with BSD, and it sort of threw me out of the writing headspace for them at an inopportune moment.

Now though I’m going to ramble and sound a bit chaotic because the truth is there is no rhyme or reason to how my brain works. And I really, really wish there was.

First, the easy part—I am always writing. I’ll have multiple stories going at once, but not all of them will ever see the light of day and some of the ones that will, I still post anonymously. It’s an old habit and probably a bad habit, but the idea of being Perceived still makes me nervous at times. And sometimes it’s just self-consciousness that I’ve been taken hostage by a fandom or story when I’m in the middle of something for another one. I often worry that it might frustrate or disappoint my friends who read my other works (see: what I tried to do with it’s the good, defining itself, my first Arcane fic, by starting it anonymously. I knew I was supposed to be writing my Detective!Chuuya AU but was kidnapped by codependent gay scientists).

Next easy part—I edit as I go, and then promptly open the chapter back up after posting to fix what I missed in the first place. Also to remove all the times that AO3 wants to add a space in front of punctuation. That part drives me nuts. …But then ANY time I read some part of something I’ve written, I inevitably go back in and tweak my wording for clarity. Or I fix my comma splices. Or to un-italicize words because I often write the way that I would read it aloud, but emphasis like that can be annoying. Or I rearrange a sentence within a paragraph to flow better. I genuinely cannot seem to open something I’ve written without doing that.

Which is why I don’t go back and reread my old works often and why when I get a comment on a previous fic it’s like falling down a rabbit hole in my own brain because “huh. I DID do that, didn’t I?”

Okay, now the harder answers! Sometimes an idea sort of thumps me upside the head and makes me do it. That one always includes when canon is going one way and I inevitably think “but what if it went THIS way instead!” Canon divergence and plot hole fillers are a staple for me. But then there are times where I know WHO I want to write for because they won’t shut up in my head, but I want to challenge myself. I’ve actually used trope spinners for that before, like Wheel of Fic. That’s actually how I ended up with April’s Fool and in its peculiar silence, actually! I had no plans whatsoever, I let it give me simple trope prompt, and then I stayed up all night writing something out of thin air.

…Which brings me to another answer. I veer wildly between being a “pantser” and a “plotter” as a writer. Some things it is entirely by the seat of my pants—and that’s not always just my short fics, either. I’ve got ideas, but pulling them together at the end is as surprising for me as it is for the reader. Sometimes I have things completely timelined, an outline, chapter quotes selected, twenty tabs of history and research open. And sometimes I go through all of that and still throw all of it out the window because something that would be more emotionally evocative came along.

For centrifugal/centripetal, for instance, I have several almost fully-written chapters sitting in a doc that never even made it in because I tossed them for something that hurt more.

Now, music! That… also depends. If I am nose to the grindstone just putting out chapter after chapter, chances are I don’t have music on because my brain is at capacity. But if I’m writing just to write, or as relaxation, I usually put something on. Usually nothing too booming, but I try to find an album or artist that fits the vibe and go with it.

Anyway, sorry for the long answers and thank you—genuinely—for the questions!

Some good ideas for learning to draw newborns!

Get screenshots from The Kitten Lady’s videos or from her instagram to do little kitten arts of. Warning for babies at varying levels of sick, though; she’s a miracle worker and often saves babies who have no chances without her intervention.

Look for photos of newborns and do base sketches based on/over top of them, then lineart without the image. Do this until you like how it turns out! Keep in mind no one tends to take photos of cat babies until they’re maybe a day or so, or until they’re dry if they really wanna publicize it. But not much growth happens between 0-2 days so that still helps.

Just draw a bean with tiny stick legs and smushed cat face. no idea if this is even a good/well-explained idea, thats just how i’ve seen people draw them before

as a note, it’s hard to come by newborns cuddling with mama outside of videos because a lot of people like to have mama out of the photo or just don’t have mama for whatever reason. Something something cute babies > cute mamas with babies, idk the reason. Also kittens like to nurse a lot from my knowledge so that could contribute.

i have no problems with drawing the babies with the parents, really (except it means More Drawing, which is also fine depending on how im feeling that day), its more just trying to get a good picture of what the kitten looks like without them being all smushed up behind another kitten or without being held in a human hand (which is a very common trend for newborn kitten pics, for decent reason, gotta keep the little guys warm and comfy). i do just need to put in the effort to learn to draw kittens but for some reason i cant get their anatomy down lmao. at least for older kittens its just Cat but Smushed Up but newborns are just like little aliens to me. peanut shaped idiots (affectionate)
