Navigating the Silence: When Your Voice Feels Lost and Your Worth Overlooked
Ever felt like you're shouting into the void, only to be met with indifference or dismissal? You're not alone. The struggle to be heard and respected is woven deeply into the human experience. Whether in relationships, the workplace, or personal reflection, this yearning for validation is universal. When unmet, it can stir emotional turmoil and erode our sense of self-worth.
This exploration aims to offer clarity, support, and actionable strategies to help you cope with these emotions and foster more meaningful connections. The truth is, feeling unheard and disrespected is a shared experience, but with intention and the right tools, positive change is within reach.
The Weight of Being Unheard
At its core, feeling unheard is the painful sense that your thoughts and emotions are overlooked or misunderstood. It’s that invisible barrier that isolates you, even when surrounded by others. This emotional disconnection can range from mild frustration to profound loneliness, often chipping away at self-esteem and trust in others. Over time, these experiences can leave you questioning your own worth.
The Sting of Disrespect
Disrespect, on the other hand, strikes at your inherent dignity. It can be blatant, like an insult, or subtle, like being repeatedly interrupted or dismissed. What defines disrespect varies from person to person, shaped by personal values and cultural backgrounds. Yet, the emotional toll—anger, hurt, shame, or even fear—is universal.
Where the Two Intersect
Often, feeling unheard and disrespected go hand in hand. When your voice is ignored, it’s easy to feel devalued. This dynamic can stem from mismatched communication styles, unmet emotional needs, or power imbalances in relationships. In the workplace, it might manifest as being overlooked for your contributions or having your ideas dismissed.
The Internal Struggle
Sometimes, these feelings are rooted in internal factors. A passive communication style, self-doubt from past experiences, or difficulty expressing emotions can all contribute. These patterns can lead to a cycle of emotional distress and reinforce the belief that your voice doesn’t matter.
The Ripple Effect
In the short term, frustration, anger, and sadness are natural responses. Over time, these emotions can morph into anxiety, self-doubt, and social withdrawal. The chronic stress of feeling unheard and disrespected can even affect physical health and lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Reclaiming Your Voice
Self-Reflection: Identify what being heard means to you. Is it validation, empathy, or uninterrupted listening?
Assertive Communication: Use "I" statements, like "I feel unheard when..." to express your needs without blame.
Active Listening: Show genuine interest in others' perspectives and mirror their words to ensure understanding.
Setting Boundaries: Clearly define what behavior is acceptable and follow through with consequences when boundaries are crossed.
Building Self-Worth: Practice self-compassion, challenge negative self-talk, and celebrate your achievements.
Mindfulness and Emotional Regulation: Use grounding techniques and mindful breathing to manage emotional overwhelm.
Seeking Professional Support: Therapy can help unpack past experiences, develop healthier communication patterns, and build resilience.
The Path Forward
Healing takes time, but every step toward self-awareness and assertiveness strengthens your ability to connect with others and protect your emotional well-being. You deserve to be heard and respected. By prioritizing your voice and valuing your own experience, you can create spaces where your truth resonates—and your presence is truly seen.

This post reminded me of the time I got entranced by the idea of in-universe rpf and wrote an "excerpt" of a hypothetical accidental selfcest fanfic.
The Lore tm is that in a universe where Bernard never met Tim, he became a prolific Capes RPF writer as well as conspiracy theorist, and that the popularity of the Bruce Wayne/Batman ship gave him the fun idea of pairing up the Wayne kids with Batclan counterparts, which lined up surprisingly well! Tim, who frequents the Gotham Capes RPF tag for normal reasons (as a kid he wrote a surpisingly popular series of gen fics where his self insert oc got adopted by Batman, he was like 11 don't judge him) sees this fic and finds certain details, such as, y'know, shipping his family members with themselves, highly suspicious. He must investigate this person and find out how much they know.

“What are you doing here, Nightwing?” Officer Grayson sighed. He looked tired, the hero noted. He understood that. A city like this could make a man tired in his soul. “The case is over. There's no reason to see eachother anymore.”
It didn't take long for Nightwing to find a reason. “There's no Batman in Bludhaven,” he said. “I need to take allies where I can get them, and you… I think you're in the same boat.” He remembered the photos of young, pretty Richie Grayson, smiling in the tabloids,  and thought about how the force could beat down someone like that. “I know you want to make Bludhaven a better place. We can keep helping eachother, working together. We need eachother.” That was all true. But none of it was why Nightwing had come to the officer's apartment balcony.
Grayson rubbed a hand over his face. “I don't think you understand how much trouble I could be in. If the other officers found out I was slipping information to a vigilante…” He frowned, the dark circles beneath his eyes even more pronounced with the expression. “They don't trust you.”
“Do you?” Nightwing couldn't help but ask.
Grayson clenched his jaw, and his gaze on Nightwing became piercing. Looking at him, the vigilante knew—he had been beaten down, but not broken. His free spirit compressed into something stronger, harder. There was fire in his eyes. “I don't know,” the officer said, “should I?”
In some ways, the display of dominance was adorable, and Nightwing couldn't help flashing his signature sharp grin. “You can,” he promised. “It's up to you. But I could show you.” He hopped onto the balcony's railing with his inhuman grace, and held out his hand. “If you put your trust in me, I'll make it worth your while.”
The man looked dubious, gaze flicking from Nightwing's shielded eyes to his outstretched hand. “How?”
“You used to be an acrobat, didn't you, officer?” the hero asked.
Grayson looked away. “That was a long time ago.’”
“Well,” said Nightwing, still grinning that wicked grin, teeth flashing in the dim light, “how would you like to really fly?”
The officer's eyes went wide, and for a moment, Nightwing worried he would close the door, shut him out, and it would all be over. Then a determined look swept over him, and he stepped forward, reaching out.
Grayson's hand slipped into his, and Nightwing took the leap.

End notes:
😭 why did you have to become a cop richie how am i meant to acab like this????
like yes cops are Bastard but like. Richie Grayson was an outlier and should not have been counted. he's perfect your honor. he's never done anything wrong in his whole life. no one tell me otherwise pls

merlin feeling awkward around the druids seems a bit of a fandom trope, and don't get me wrong, I get where it comes from. they call him emrys and treat him like a messiah and he finds that off-putting. but I want to see more of merlin just. just vibing with the druids. I want him feeling like he's finally found his tribe. he goes spend a couple of weeks with a druid clan for diplomatic reasons after being made court sorcerer and he has the time of his life. they sit around the fire and he mentions feeling the world vibrating and nobody looks at him like he's lost his mind. they teach him new healing spells and give him tips on how to use medicinal herbs. they all get high on some sacred plant at some point probably. do you see what I mean

Finally introducing my Fame DR after a year…
This is my main DR. I’m permashifting, so this one in particular is very personal to me and I love it. I would’ve done this post around a year ago, but I didn’t, and I have no idea why, because I love these boys and they match my energy. I’m so excited to shift cause I haven’t managed to do so yet…
ENOUGH OF THAT SHIT
——————————————————————————
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My 1D DR
Name: Chloe Lilian Adams
Face claim: Gracie Abrams (except I have blue eyes)
Birthday: 12/03/94
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Birthplace: North Yorkshire, England
Friends: Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles
S/O: Harry because he’s the loml. We don’t start dating until 2011 though
Nationality: British
Backstory: Grew up in a small town in North Yorkshire. Could often be seen in the local park with my mates, or up in my room playing on my guitar or my drum kit. Music was always my passion and it was the only thing I was really confident in growing up. I loved singing too, I had a YouTube channel that I would post covers on and it went viral. I decided to audition for the X Factor in 2010 when I was 16, and I was put in a band with five boys.
——————————————————————————
I really ought to talk about this DR more because I adore it but I never really get the chance to. Anyway, I’m glad I’ve finally had the chance to talk about it cause it feels good to finally say something… :)
Anyway, you have a good day/night. Regardless, I hope we all shift soon <3

one day I wish I could actually like understand songwriting especially for theatre so that I can I dunno actually put to use the random tunes I have in my head that just spontaneously appear while I'm doing the most mundane of shit. anyways patron has the concept of an opening number now
#im gonma call it Silakbo#the gist of this is um LOOK TO REALLY EXPLAIN WHAT PATRON IS UMM#understand that patron was originally two separate musical ideas whose events occur At The Same Time To Teach Other#so like yea same universe#Patron (pronounce it in the Filipino way) is about modern student activism in the philippines and the nitty gritty of it#Patron (english pronunciation) is about a young filipino playwirght struggles to find their voice in an american landscape (new york)#especially in the context of the events of Filipino Patron#both discuss what it means to be a young filipino revolutionary in this day and age#so um i first thought of this when i was 17-18 - and now im 20 and like the masochist i am i have decided to have them become one project#dual protagonist - one a new and rather sheltered stude of UP Diliman and one decorated young progressive writer in New York#the former is a journey of looking beyond privilege and what it really means to be among the masses#the latter is a story of how privilege blinds - and how susceptible we are to american neoliberalism#that it dulls once sharp pens + the irony of succumbing to such amidst environment and communities that scream for resistance#and whatever one protag does affects the other protag - whatever happens in america affects philippine events and vice versa yay#anyways openign number Silakbo is the arrival of these two protagonists to their respective settings - both with their own musical styles#(UPD protag progresses from broadway belts to pinoy hiphop - NY protag progresses from pinoy hiphop to broadway belts) (this is A Clue)#and most of UPD protag songs will be sung in Filipino while NY Protag will um progressively grow into being fully English#and silakbo can be used synonymously with storm so its basically a storm is coming who's gonna bring it#a change is approaching who's gonna chase it#tbh this out of all of my works is gonna be inspired heavily from lmm's work because tbh this is gonna be a beast to even conceptualise#so um yea thats a mini patron ramble woo hope its um understandable at worst 😭#personal shit#also yes the NY storyline is based on um once progressive Filipinos becoming subservients to conservative and harmful politics#either out of ignorance or power or simple nonchalance#i can name a lot of namess gjdjd

admittedly this is "old man yells at clouds" energy, but I think it sucks that modern fandom often only conceives of community in the form of discord servers

random senpai is an otokonoko ramble but honestly?? I think aromantic saki aoi is still fully possible in canon and dare I say implied even after the finale of the manga (manga spoilers below)
during her confession to makoto and her introspection before that, she says what she's feeling for them "might not be normal, and might not be the real thing," suggesting that even at the end, saki didn't know if her feelings were romantic or not. and she wouldn't have even considered confessing to them or asking them out if makoto hadn't confessed to her first. what saki does know is that she really likes makoto, wants to see them, wants to stay together with them, wants to make them happy, wants to tell them how she feels. no, makoto wasn't the first and only person she really fell held over heels with. no, her feelings for makoto haven't changed to be overly, indisputably romantic. but makoto helped her realize that it's okay if she doesn't experience love in a so-called "normal" way. and she likes them a lot, she wants them to have their feelings be reciprocated, she wants to be with them and for them to be happy, so why not?
and like, aro people can get into relationships without having romantic feelings necessarily. or they can get into relationships that aren't necessarily romantic. but it's still love. and I think that's what aoi is experiencing. obviously, the author never explicitly states what aoi's romantic identity is and probably didn't set out to write a character that is aro, but she's still very aro-coded even in the finale. and I completely understand people who say the ending felt rushed, and there are so many threads in this story that had so much potential but were never wholly cemented and it would've been so cool to have a character come out and say this is what they identify as. but idk that's the climate of getting a story published. I'm just here to tell you your hcs are not dead!!! and even if this isn't the most groundbreaking story ever I still loved it and I continue to adore it and it makes me happy
also I rlly wanted to see these three become a poly they're just so cute together :(( I didn't have any expectations that they actually would become a polycule but they would've been so perfect and in the ending it's literally the three of them together. but hey that's what fanfiction is for

I feel like communication on tumblr would go a lot more smoothly if people realized that reblogging a post and adding something onto it is done with different lenses, if that's the word. Attitudes?
Sometimes people are picking up the phone to call OP or prev directly and say "here's what I think of the thing you said."
Sometimes people are standing in a circle at a party with OP and prev and dropping their own contribution in.
Sometimes people are turning around to their own friend group (read: their followers) and going, "Look what I found, and here's what I think of it."
And a lot of people do multiple depending on the post!
I remember a post where someone was complaining about when people post something like 'one way to beat executive dysfunction is to give yourself little time limits, like finish unloading the dishwasher before the oven timer runs out,' and someone responding to the post going 'I have anxiety and that would throw me into a panic attack.' The point being, well, clearly this post wasn't for you, then, was it!
But like. If you read about this trick in a magazine and picked up the phone to tell OP that, it would be incredibly rude, yes. But, if someone at the party mentions it, and you're just there, contributing to the conversation, it's not that weird to be like 'haha couldn't be me.' Was the person taking the post as universal, really, or are they just fumbling their conversate roll? Or are they turning around with the magazine to their besties and going 'imagine me trying this, hoo boy!'
I also scrolled past a post recently where an ask wanted to know what they could do to feel less helpless in the political climate, given that they were not able to run for office themselves. OP gave some thoughts, and a few back-and-forths with other folks later, the topic of running for office came up again. I'll call them person B.
Person C says something about how good local change can be. Person D is like, "Hey, asker was clear about not being able to do that, they're a spoonie, sometimes this just isn't possible for people!" OP goes, "1, [person C] is the last person you need to explain that to, 2, I'm aware people other than the asker are reading my posts."
First, I thought person D was talking to person B, and second, I, like person D, totally missed where this stopped being a phone call with asker and became a bunch of people chatting about political change at a party!
or what about the "I am not your cousin who's allergic to salad" post? Sometimes a person is just like "here's a vaguely related thing that made me think of, the other person's turn appears to be done, I'll toss it in." Much more obvious in person than online.
One obvious rebuttal to this post is 'well you're supposed to do the third thing, maybe even the second, in the tags.' Yeah, well, I follow at least two people who put tags in the tags and whatever they have to say in the post itself. One of which is person C. Yes, it's easier to read a statement as meant for one's own circle when it's in the tags instead of the post, but not everybody does it. And not everybody is capable of on-the-fly filtering by degree of relevance to see how their statement is going to come off.

you mentioned the "first reansmasc haircut" thing and i gotta say its not just a white thing, i did the same thing lol
I didn't want to be overly presumptuous because hairstyles are incredibly diverse, but... it's nice to know this is a thing we can share regardless of what The Haircut happens to have been 🙏
