Thank you so much! I'll answer two asks in same post because they overlapped nicely :) Brushes and program: I know it's not ideal, but for various work-related reasons I'm still using Photoshop. For brushes I tend to change specifics because i get bored easily, but for these paintings I mostly use brushes from packs by Iben Krutt and Jens Claessens. Their works are huge inspirations and brushes pure perfection! Sketches/drawing process: So I mostly only share sketches with clients and when needed to..but I've seen this question couple of times now so I'll let you peek behind the curtain. My deep dark secret on why I never post early sketches online nor record speedpaints is that my sketches are just plain bad/goofy!

Here you can see initial sketches for Knight and deep-set venom and Knight and the kiss of blade...I really try to speedrun through this stage, because it's merely a necessary evil for me personally. Somehow my abilities to sketch on paper don't translate at all digitally so I've kinda given up on that.

Ahhhhh insane with the idea that the Dark Urge was forced to kill their parents, the people they loved most in the world, at a very young age, and this was only the first stage in what would be a constantly evolving notion of love and relationship with themselves.

First was grief. Regret. Feeling ashamed and monstrous and wicked. Crying at night because they had loved their parents and now they were gone, and it was their fault. Directly. That's a lot for a kid to handle.

But with Scleritas whispering in their ear, and the threat of Bhaal hanging over their head, the grief becomes fear. Terror, that it might happen again. They stay away from people they knew before, kids or adults who knew them in Baldur's Gate. Maybe they can't resist the urge but they can at least ensure they don't hurt anyone they love. Maybe they can control themselves. Maybe they can keep their wretched body still. Maybe they will not be the instrument of pure death and chaos and evil incarnate.

But then the only companionship they have is Scleritas Fel, and he's a wicked little creature, constantly bringing the worst out of them. And as time passes and they live their life in isolation, that terror starts to fade, as do memories of love and friendship and kindness. And the urge is impossible to totally ignore. So where before they felt intense guilt or fear, now there's no feeling at all. And since they're so distant from other living beings, people start looking like meat puppets to them. Empty dolls of blood and viscera and mucus. No longer the feeling of home, but carcasses in the making.

And you know, I don't think leading the Temple of Bhaal would help. I can see the Dark Urge completely forgetting about their old life, and the warm feelings of intimacy and affection. How long can you go through life feeling afraid or numb? Maybe the only joy they could find was in embracing their urge. In dedicating their life to Daddy, to the point where they had a crippling fear of disappointing him. If they couldn't be happy, then they could at least be perfect. They could at least have purpose. They were once afraid of how monstrous they could be. Now, they aren't.

But then.

they meet Gortash.

and it's like... well.

Durgetash is, at its core, love spun on its edge and ripped open with fangs.

It is two vicious creatures, being soft with one another, but not soft like the fur of a puppy or the heads of dandelions, but soft like carrion, like the lining of a coffin, like the whisper of the morgue.

But it is still love.

And how would the Dark Urge react? Well, unloved beast that they are, I would imagine it would sneak up on them. Neither they, nor Gortash, seem as though they have even an ounce of love or compassion in their bodies. So they can be at ease with one another, surely? Nothing about Gortash is soft or gentle the way they vaguely remember love being. So they think they're safe.

And that was a mistake. Because they haven't felt safe since they were a child. So he became their first step backwards. After years of constantly moving forward (because if they stop moving, they fear that they might die).

And it gets worse, because the more they admire him, the more they enjoy their time together, the stronger their alliance becomes... the more dangerous it feels.

Hence the prayer of forgiveness.

The Dark Urge would have to reassure father that they were still strong and obedient. They would tell him that it wasn't love, because they are not capable of it, not anymore. Gortash is just... an ally. Just an asset. A pawn, like everyone else. A meat sack.

But they're lying.

Gortash was the first crack in their armor. They had no one for so long. They needed him. Wanted him. Could only be with him at all because he had the same goals as them, and they could use them as an excuse, a shield, against the idea that they were in love or attached.

And then we get to the amnesia... the reset... the rebirth. And...

The Dark Urge starts again. They unlearned all of their pain, their agony, their sadomasochism. They find friends. And lovers. And they find comrades in arms. They find a hero within themselves, one that could not live alongside the evil built into their very blood.

And they embrace love, even though it means death.

Even if it means being obliterated, they welcome the end of all things, over returning to the loneliness of before.

And it's lovely. It's a fascinating idea to me, the dark urge and their relationship with love.

I am obsessed with the idea of a character who is not saved by love, but destroyed by it.

Someone who cannot embrace love and become stronger like all the other protagonists of the world. Someone who does the exact opposite. They want to love, but have learned it will only hurt those who could love a wretched creature like themselves. And it will only break them in the end.

But when given the chance to start all over... this time, they are not alone. This time, they have the strength to do what is necessary. The bonds that hold them together just as they pull them apart.

Friends, I'm sorry for the rambling.

But I love the potential of the Dark Urge as a character.

u don’t have to answer this if u don’t want to or u feel u don’t have anything to say on it (obvi) but how do u deal with jealousy and comparison?

i genuinely just like my shit. i love how i look like, i love my stuff, i love where i come from, i love my family and friends, and i appreciate all the circumstances (good and bad) that have led me to be the person i am today. i've done a lot of esteemable things that have bolstered my confidence growing up, like getting an extremely hard degree and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone more than ever before. i treat other people w kindness and respect. i make sure to be a source of support rather than needless negativity. what people think of me (or have) doesn't get under my skin anymore, bc i've already proven my worth to myself. the fact of the matter is, i'll always hold my own opinion of myself higher than i do other people's opinions of me. i'm at a place where i just don't care that much. i've lost the need to correct people on their takes of me a long time ago.

my own happiness is king--everything else is secondary. if i like it, that's enough for me.

i find it pointless to compare myself to somebody else, simply because no two people have been dealt the exact same cards. i wouldn't compare a rose to a lily, so why should i be comparing myself to people who're--no matter who they are, no matter where they're from--never gonna be me? i'm me. the only person i should be comparing myself to is my past self. i am only in competition w myself. that is all.

as for jealousy, viewing people who have things i want as proof of concept has really helped. if another person gets a higher score on a test, i don't get jealous that they outdid me. i just view them as proof that i can get that score if i studied more efficiently. someone else's success isn't a lack of your own--it's just proof you can reach that success, even if the route doesn't look exactly the same, even if it might take longer.

contentment is entirely subjective. i've known wealthy people who're incredibly miserable. i've known people who struggle financially but could not be happier. other people's advantages don't rattle me, bc i don't care about them, bc i'm so eternally grateful for what i already have. i've also never really been that materialistic to begin with, so i've always understood that a person's worth lies in who they are rather than what they own (whether it be things, money, opportunities...). i can say w my whole chest that i wouldn't swap places w the most famous, most rich celebrity there is. i legitimately don't want to. i know that even if i have to work harder for things, i'll have more to say by the end of it all, and that in and of itself is so profound. not to mention the satisfaction from having challenged myself to get there--and i love a good challenge.

i've unleared the idea that i should view other women as competition. life is hard, we all struggle, we'll be living in a man's world for a long time, and it's just not worth the energy. yeah i'm ambitious, but not at the expense of other people. there's enough room for everyone. another woman's achievement doesn't mean less space for mine. we'll all be fine.

w all that said!! there are bad days. no human is just confident all the time, doesn't feel jealous all the time, doesn't compare themself all the time, doesn't let people's opinions get under their skin all the time. don't feel bad for doing it every now and then. it's natural and normal and just part of the human experience. nobody is perfect. just focus on you, view other people as inspiration rather than competition, and compare your progress to nobody else's but your own. it's been a game changer for me :)

Ok, I think I have been so much into inspiration mode with my newest WIP I barely wrote anything on here about it. Oopsie.

So, who wants to hear more about a magical university with the students being all descendants of humans who either made a deal or married/fucked a fae, elves, succubi, witches, animal spirits and such, learning the in and outs of their magic while also learning the secrets of their kind.

All the protagonists are 21-23 with various upcomings and magical traits.

We have themes of sins of the ancestors, breaking free of family trauma, becoming your own person, unlearing bias and more.

There is also a romance subplot.

On the Crimea peninsula:

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine launched a significant number of remote unmanned kamikaze boats filled with explosives targeting Russian ships off the coast in the vacinity of Chornomorske, dealing significant damage, if not destruction to at least one of the targeted ships.

It is unlear from the videos how many ships were hit. It could be the same ship getting hit multiple times and there would be no way to know it from the videos. Also, it's worth noting the targeted ships are not particularly large ones. Still, one wonders how this persistent problem continues to go unaddressed.

Production:

Meanwhile, Russian authorities announced that due to the increases in the production of military equipment by the Russian Federation, the Russians have built or modernized upwards of 2'000 tanks in 2023.

In the Kherson direction:

In the territory of the southwestern Dnieper islands, Russian Forces were bombing and shelling Ukrainian positions and fortifications built up on the Dnieper islands somewhere to the south of Kherson city.

According to Russian sources, Ukrainian Forces have been concentrating manpower and equipment on the islands in preparation for offensive operations south of Kherson city.

Both sides are heavily dependent on drone warfare in this area, with Ukrainian Forces publishing video of clearing operations south of the village of Krynky.

For both sides, heavy drone usage comes with heavy electronic warfare usage as is evidenced in drone videos from both sides all along the front. As soon as they arrive near a target, the video turns to static before disappearing completely if the drone gets too close to the jamming source.

However, it is worth pointing out that Ukrainian Forces in the Kherson area have had less issues with jamming than the Russians in the region.

In response to the concentration of Ukrainian Forces in the area, Russian Forces have been heavily reliant on FAB500 guided bomb strikes and the Type-38 missiles on the staging presence for offensive operations in Baryslav and Lvove, as well as using a Type-38 missile to knock out a bridge north of Kherson in the vacinity of Velyke Artakove.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction:

Ukrainian Forces launched ground operations in the vacinity of northeastern Novoprokopivka, with Russian Forces publishing video of the operations being targeted on the northern outskirts of the village, however Russian sources claim the operation was repelled.

This explains the previous week of attempts by Ukraine forces in this area to broaden their western flank and widen the channel they've been funneled into to Novoprokopivka.

Russian Forces continued heavy use of FPV drones in the vicinity of Western Robotyne, but once again, it is worth mentioning that FPV drone footage from this area shows significant evidence of the use of suppressive equipment and jamming technologies.

To the east of Robotyne, in the vicinity of the western outskirts of Verbove Russian Forces used significant numbers of TOS Flamethrower systems to hammer Ukrainian positions west of Verbove.

Russian Forces launched ground operation after the heavy bombing towards Ukrainian trench networks along the treelines and in the fields west of Verbove, however Ukrainian Forces in the area repelled the attack and held their ground.

In the South Donetsk direction:

Russian Forces using type-38 missiles struck a Ukrainian ammo depot in the vicinity of Novomykhailivka. Secondary detonations were recorded.

Operations continue in the direction of Novomykhailivka, with Russian Forces working steadily towards enveloping the city from the north and south.

In the Avdiivka direction:

Another powerful missile strike was launched by Russian Forces targeting Ukrainian facilities in the village of Tonenke, with video of the strike published by Russian sources.Ukrainian Forces were using FPV drones to target Russian equipment and vehicles in their positions south of Avdiivka, in the northern outskirts of Vodiane.

While a second published strike by Ukrainian Forces in the area a little further south near the village of Piski gives evidence to considerable concentrations of Russian equipment in the southern Avdiivka direction.

In the north of Avdiivka, according to multiple Russian sources, Russian Forces were continuing ground operations in the vicinity of Stepove, with sources claiming Russian Forces crossed the railways and have reached the outskirts of the village, managing to estsblish control over a small forestry plantation. It would be safe to say the village of Stepove is now solidly in the grayzone.

According to Russian sources, Russian Forces were also able to expand their zone of control on the north of Kransohorivka along the rail lines.

To summarize, Russian Forces in the Avdiivka sector are advancing in three directions, one from the south towards Tonenke, one from the north of Avdiivka towards the south targeting Berdychi and the third towards the north of Kransohorivka.

In the Artemovsk direction:

Russian Forces continue two main avenues of attack in the Artemovsk area, one from the north of Artemovsk, in the Yahidne direction towards the south of the Berkhivka Reservoir and along the rail lines towards the Bohdanivka and Khromove directions, and the second line of attack from the south of Bakhmut, in the direction of Klischiivka and Andriivka as part of operations to prevent the redeployment of elite forces in the Avdiivka direction.

In return, Ukrainian Forces rely heavily on FPV drones to strike enemy vehicles and equipment in the area south of the Berkhivka Reservoir, without much evidence for progress slowing Russian advances in this area.

In the Siversk direction:

Russian Forces were heavily bombing and shelling Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Spirne and positional fighting continues in this area.

In the Krimmina forest area, Russian Forces launched operations in the area northwest of Bilohorivka from the area southeast of Kuzmyne in two directions attempting to take some territory in the forest areas.

In the Kupiansk direction:

No changes in the Kupiansk direction, though positional fighting continues in the area of the highway between Orlianka and Petropavlivka.

Ukrainian Forces continue bombing and shelling Russian movements of armoured vehicles in this area along with drone assaults on Russian positions while Russian Forces say they repelled an attack by Ukrainian Forces on their positions in the forests and fields north of the road.

Russian Forces have concentrated considerable military power along the Lyman/Kupiansk/Kharkiv line, but operations on the ground have been minimal to non-existent as of yet.
