REFERENCIA. hebras naturalmente oscuras se han mantenido teñidas de rubio desde hace ya un buen tiempo, él mismo se corta el pelo y prefiere llevarlo corto para mayor comodidad. su altura probablemente es lo que más destaca sobre él, rondando los ciento ochenta y cinco centímetros. si bien puede parecer que no se preocupa mucho por su apariencia, es asiduo al gimnasio y sigue una rutina de cuidado de la piel. aunque no es un entusiasta de la moda; rara vez busca destacar con su ropa, a excepción de eventos especiales donde se toma la molestia de pensarse bien lo que va a vestir.

01. de infancia no puede destacar mucho, nunca habiéndose aventurado a explorar nada que no fuera lo que sus padres presentaron para él, sucumbiendo fácilmente a los lujos y la opulencia que la riqueza le brindaba. es hasta su adolescencia que comienza a cuestionar su entorno y a distanciarse de lo que por tantos años le pareció natural: el privilegio y la ignorancia de no tener que preocuparse por el dinero. su interés por el deporte, en específico el baloncesto, le proporcionó la oportunidad de conectar con un círculo de personas distinto, y desde entonces surgió su urgencia de distiguirse de su familia, de ser algo más que un niño rico.

02. para la universidad decidió educarse en nueva york, queriendo alejarse de la cotidianidad de su hogar y el reconocimiento automático que su apellido traía consigo en su país natal. optó por estudiar cine, algo no muy sorpresivo ya que desde pequeño se la pasaba con cámara en mano, capturando todo lo que llamaba su atención. pero sí, unos pocos esperaban que siguiera su camino en los deportes.

03. de momento su atención se encuentra puesta sobre su arte, trabajando en filmes independientes y, ocasionalmente, prestándose a la fotografía. no tiene prisa por prepararse para unirse a la empresa de sus padres, ya que sabe que su posición privilegiada le brinda la flexibilidad para explorar sus intereses antes de comprometerse plenamente con el legado familiar.

I've been thinking about Nico's sword lately and honestly? That weapon alone is extremely OP,even more than whatever other weapon we had in the books (that don't include magical artifacts,because those are part af a different category).

Riptide is made of celestial bronze,so it can harm demigods and monsters,and has a special feature of always returning with Percy no matter what because it's enchanted.

IVLIVS could always be with Jason because it was a golden coin that turned into a javelin,but it got destroyed pretty fast in the narrative so we don't know if it had some other frature. It was also made of imperial gold so again,could slay monsters and immortals.

Katoptris's original use wasn't for battle,since Helen used it as a mirror,but with Piper it mainly focus on its special feature: visions. It was quite useful for them but Piper hated it so we never got to know much about the dagger.

Backbiter is a modified version of Kronos's scythe (sick enough with just this,since Luke can open portals and travelable rips through space and time),but it's made of tempered steel and celestial bronze so it can kill mortals,demigods and monsters and sever their souls.

All of those swords have different feature that distinguish them from normal ones,but they are still made of typical materials for demigods: imperial gold and celestial bronze,while stygian iron is only used for one sword in the books. Luke's sword,in this list,is the only one that is similar to Nico's in term of powerfulness,but it's still quite different.

Stygian iron is a magical metal capable of absorbing or destroying the essence of: monsters,Gods,Titans,demigods and Giants. And,unlike imperial gold and celestial bronze,it can harm mortals,monsters and immortals alike,and prevent the souls of monsters from returning to Tartarus,and traps those of the people it touches.

Technically stygian iron is the strongest,of all the metals,in the books. And the only sword made of this material is Nico's. Only the children of the Underworld can touch the material,but the sword itself can only be touched by Nico,otherwise everyone else souls get trapped and things can get ugly.

Like,not even Percy or Luke had this much power in their weapons: Riptide is a "normal" sword,for how much "normal" its user is,and Backbiter had so much power because it got modified to be similar to Kronos's weapon,but originally it was just made of different metals. But Nico? Nico got a weapon of mass destruction and extermination of humanity in his hand every day. And we never talk about how much damage it can cause,and how much OP it is compared to the other swords.

It doesn't even have a name like the others,but people already know to not fuck with a black sword laying around,becuse they know it's Nico's. Because he is the only one to have,use and held that sword. That's just how iconic it is and how unique it is to everyone. And just like Riptide and IVLIVS (before it got destroyed),his sword is always with him since he can summon it from the shadows and the darkness.

That weapon is OP,literally the strongest of the whole main timeline (we are talking about more than almost 20 books) and we never gave it much more than a look.

This is just another moment of Rick "I don't want someone to overshadow Percy but I already added this....I'll just made sure to not use that too much so people will not give it much attention" regarding Nico.

I'll probably do a list for how many times it happens.

truly one of the biggest letdowns in piper's writing in hoo specifically is how it doesn't dig deeper into charmspeak and what a disturbing thing it is to have the power to control someone's mind. like I swear this is interesting stuff and more people would get into piper as a character if this were explored a bit more in the text. you definitely see piper disturbed by her own power and hesitant to use it (and note that like many other characters, i.e. leo and hazel, her powers have always been a source of trouble in her life - like how she got in trouble for stealing a car even though all she did was ask for it), but in my opinion the books spend way too much time in piper's perspectives on other stuff when charmspeak is such an unusual and fascinating and terrifying power that offers so many interesting avenues of character exploration

and I really wish the books would have talked more about the canonical fact that charmspeak is more effective against people who are (or could be) physically/sexually attracted to the user. this is a power that children of aphrodite have - a power that is implicitly tied to sexuality as a defense or offense. like this inherently necessitates that piper weaponizes her sexuality against monsters and deities and giants and any other antagonist that want to harm her. which is crazy. especially because she's a teenager and especially because piper is initially characterized as an underconfident girl who goes out of her way to downplay her appearance (do you guys remember how much harassment piper goes through in the books and what little gravity is afforded to those moments... like she has dangerous characters aggressively flirting with or expressing attraction to her A Lot, and she has to play into that attraction to save herself or her friends no matter how uncomfortable it makes her)

I think there's such a dark undertone to all of this that's worth investigating. we know that piper doesn't like herself, doesn't like her powers, and doesn't like demigod life. hoo has her on a journey to become more confident in herself as a person and as a daughter of aphrodite but it's always going to be fucked up that part of her role in the prophecy seven is becoming confident enough in herself that she gets better at weaponizing her ability to violate the free will of others - and her ability to use her sexuality as an armament of war
