bday diary...rambling look away...

birthday weekend was very special. i was happy to just journal, run errands, and go for a cute intimate dinner on the actual day. i continued the lil bday tradition w myself watching a rohmer film alone. this time it was le rayon vert and it was the perfect movie for this time of my life

Alright Nivi, these are my predictions from first glance. Will start at Sweet 16!

Sweet 16:

UCLA v Baylor (side note: Baylor v Ole Miss in the second round should be a good and close one, but I think Baylor edge them out).

Florida St v NC State (Yeah that's right, i'm going with Florida St upsetting LSU in the second round. Admittedly, I made that pick with my heart more than head but I also wanna advance my Latson and Timpson agenda on the national stage even if I have them losing to NC state here).

South Carolina v Alabama (Alabama v Maryland should be another fun one but I think Alabama just edges them out)

West Virgina v Duke (honestly this bottom part of Birmingham 2 was difficult for me to pick, like there could be two totally different in this Sweet 16 matchup instead but imma go with this for now and I'm gonna go WV here cause I think it'll be close and I know Duke struggles at the line so that might be their downfall)

Texas v Tennessee (I know this might be blasphemous of me as a UConn fan, but I really like the Lady Vols this season and while they've been disappointing in the final stretch of their conference play, I still think they can make a run, so I'm going with my heart here hahah)

Notre Dame v TCU (Would like both teams to lose here if possible lol but alas I have to pick one and ultimately my love for Sonia made me go with ND)

USC v Kentucky (I'm actually not certain if Kentucky get past K-State but I gave Kentucky the home court advantage, and then I think USC's a little too tall of a task, but if Clara Strack can turn it up, then this could be closer than expected)

UConn v Oklahoma (no notes)

Elite 8:

UCLA v NC State (Lauren just too much for NC State methinks)

South Carolina v West Virginia (we know no one's really challenging SC in this region)

Tennessee v Notre Dame (fuck it, i'm riding with the Vols for as long as I plausibly can)

Summary of my weekend.

Saturday : not much, some people came over and me and my brother hid in the kitchen to yap, and at the end of the day I did 2 hours of knife sharpening, ending at 10pm

on a kvthm note i TOTALLY get it ngl the more i found out about their relationship the more flabbergasted i got with how people usually view it and their prior falling out. ive seen several people (especially early on in the sumeru arc) say they sincerely dislike alhaitham because they see him as egotistical (?!), but for me ive always found his bluntness and lack of uh. “social propriety” very admirable? i love that he lives according to his truths (even if admittedly hes so forthright in his beliefs that its like a…. social bulldozer lololol) call me crazy but i think haitham is actually very sincere and honest and even though hes reserved about his emotions, he’s ultimately a humanist through and through!!!

im really curious to know more of your thoughts on kaveh since hes the big reason you got into the pairing!!! tbf i dont think about kaveh much (HAHA sorry kaveh…) but hes always struck me as deeply flawed in a way that i think gets skimmed over since hes so… relatable (idealism that gets shattered, kindness thats ends up being fruitless charity, wearing his heart on his sleeve, really tragic family backstory etc.) that makes him really sympathetic (and also easy to relate/project on LOL) to the point that people um… i guess oversimplify him and his relationship with alhaitham?? i dont really think they suffer that much from flanderisation in fandom but ive always thought kaveh got a lot of grace for his actions (i just realised i probably sound a bit mean about him. Yeah it's one of the reasons I really couldn't vibe much with the tropes from reverse lane. I've bought a lot of doujin from that side (like 40k yen worth lol) even though it's not my lane I could tolerate it so I could observe the themes/tropes/interpretations. What I found was that Haitham was always portrayed as either stoic/no real feeling toward Kaveh?? or just used like he's Kaveh's dildo or whatever with no actual significance- It upset me so much because I think Alhaitham is such an interesting and deep character... I love him with my entire fucking heart so seeing him be treated in such a way made me so sad hahaha;; Of course it's not every content and I understand a lot of people just want to be self indulgent but sigh...

I'm agreeing with literally everything you've written, thank you omg... ;v; In my opinion Alhaitham IS very sincere, honest and caring. He's a freaking HARAVATAT bro... I just think that the way he goes about things is true to his personality and resolve. He's not someone who wants to water down who he is, and I sincerely believe that he said those things to Kaveh fully knowing that it'd hurt him, but he also knew he was the only one who could say it and have Kaveh wake up?? He was willing to jeopardize their friendship because he knew it would help Kaveh in the long run, but it's not like Alhaitham abandoned Kaveh either ya know... he's literally described as the one thing that is unchanging in Kaveh's life, I really equate this as Alhaitham being his one "constant" and "pillar"...

Okay so ironically I do have a lot to say about Kaveh, my stories tend to focus around him after all, funnily enough. These are just my interpretations and impressions upon reading about both sides of what happened but Kaveh really left a sour taste in my mouth. I still love him a lot, but I'm definitely a tsundere for him now.

I just want to say what you've described is 100% accurate and saying you don't think about him much makes me think you're a liar bc I swear you understand him way more than people who claim they know him.

It frustrates me so much how much people project onto him and forget traits that are LITERALLY IN CANON. The amount of times there is a discourse about "Kaveh can't hold his claymore" or "Kaveh is feminine and dainty" or "Kaveh is an indoor person" or "Kaveh is not athletic" it makes me want to sCREAM.

FOR ONE he CAN hold his claymore and has been depicted to be doing so even in official merch... Genuinely, what did people think he used to do before he met Mehrak? I guess he just ran away from enemies bc his hand is too owie to hold a claymore. Also, it's fine that Kaveh is feminine and dainty but it doesn't mean he's not also very handsome and charming in a masculine way??? Literally he's Howl Pendragon to me... ALSO KAVEH IS AN INDOOR PERSON IS SO FREAKING DELUSIONAL HE LITERALY HAS A VOICE LINE WHERE HE SAYS IT'S NOT GOOD TO STAY COOPED UP ALL THE TIME AND ALSO HE'S ALWAYS OUT AND ABOUT AT ARCHITECT SITES ETC HE WAS LITERALLY AT ONE WHEN SUMERU NEEDED HIM MOST..!!!!! I am getting so worked up, also about him not being athletic? Yeah he might not be the most athletic but he's NOT a whimpy stick..? He mentions he's taken swimming electives like can we please... just... ugh... it's ok to have headcanons but the way it's always pushed as FACT freaking gets me so GHAIWHEKAWHEIAWE screams.

Also, the thing I get from Kaveh is that yes, he has empathy, but a large part of that empathy comes from GUILT. I can't help but view him as someone who has a people pleaser tendency. It's his ugly truth, and something that ALHAITHAM has pointed out.

Let's be real, we all know someone like that, that's why I can recognize him, we know they're not a bad guy but, sometimes we're like "why are you doing these things that ultimately hurt you?" for the sake of someone who 1) will not even appreciate it that much 2) it's literally not your problem. But Kaveh has a problem with walking away from situations because he thinks of himself as the one person who can help and it's so fucking DESTRUCTIVE.

I also think fandom really defends him too much, Ohhh babygirl could never do any wrong! babygirl is so sad and it's not his fault!!! LISTEN UP. they just don't want to swallow the fact that he's done wrong. He's hurt Alhaitham, and he's quite honestly an offender to me. You're right in saying that he gets a lot of grace for his actions. I'm just gonna paste a past rant here:

imo Kaveh is someone who doesn't lack in inspiration and ideas. The man actually has TOO MANY ideas and TOO MUCH motivation. It's to the point where his projects are too grandiose for what he can even realistically pull off, and that's what bogs him down. Not from art angst.

If anything what makes him attractive to me is his unwavering confidence and pride in his work. He knows that he is good, and he knows his work is worthy of leaving a mark in Sumeru's history. I love that about him so much. HE IS THE GENIUS ARCHITECT AND HE INFURIATES ME..!!

My favorite headcanon is when clients tell him what to do and he's like "are you all kidding with me right now do you have any idea how ridiculous this proposal is, why on earth would I try to design something with THAT materia- ah I see, your budget, well... it's still hideous"

"let's see what other material we can go with, or actually I wouldn't mind if we cut my pay to use better material, it'll be more beautiful. While we're at it why don't we design a bit more to give the place some more oomph, oh right your budget, so how about I do this for free?"

But yeah despite him being a walking red flag he's very attractive to me because I love the passion and confidence he has in his chosen discipline... I love that he dreams of grand things and doesn't doubt his ability to realize them. He is an angry hotheaded mansplainer and people don't want to admit that.
