The first time I made a GotG artwork was last October 2023, and the first time I made a GotG edit was last December 2023! So yeah, here's my collection so far!

Fun Fact: The iconic high five shared between Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket, and Drax is a pivotal moment that beautifully encapsulates the core themes of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It's not just a sign of friendship and teamwork; it's the physical manifestation of their entire character arc. Here's what it represents for each of them:

For Peter Quill (Star-Lord): It’s a human gesture, a piece of Earth he brings to the cosmos. Having lost his family, he yearns for connection, and this high five marks the moment he forms a new one.

For Gamora: Raised as a living weapon and taught to trust no one, her participation is a massive step. A gentle thaw begins—her guard yielding, making space for trust and companionship to take root, tentative yet profoundly felt.

For Rocket: Wrapped in isolation and guarded pride, even a fleeting high five reveals a fracture in his defenses—a quiet, unwavering signal that he still longs for connection. In an unguarded breath, he surrenders to the vastness around him—no longer a lone flame, but a quiet spark in a roaring constellation.

For Drax: The literal-minded warrior often struggles with social cues. His participation shows his willingness to embrace the strange customs of his new companions, signifying his complete and earnest integration into the group.

For Groot: As the living embodiment of their bond, his participation is the purest. It is a simple, joyous expression of unity and belonging, which is all Groot ever truly wants.

At its core, that one gesture captures five fractured, isolated souls deciding to heal by becoming whole together.

I put this up a little bit ago but honestly I’d like to know what you think cuz I think imma try use it in one of my comics (even if I have to try learn how to draw a raccoon XDD)

“ I feel like it could be cool to use the guardians of the galaxy as a way to ‘info dump’ to the avengers the severity of galactus/the herald. Since the avengers wouldn’t really get the whole “let’s hit casually jump in our lightspeed rocket to check and see if this silver lady is legit”

Plus Johnny in universe is seen as v attractive and id just like to imagine him interacting with drax who is apparently quickly enamored with handsome men XD”

YES YES. I love the guardians of the galaxy and I was thinking they’d be such a good idea to bridge the gap from earth to space. This is kinda of spoilers for my fic but it’s only a first draft idea: the guardians witness galactus devouring a planet (perhaps responding to an emergency call) and johnny and them interact. he probably also hears the loud earth music, spots the raccoon, and the human, and is like what? (there’s a very brief fear of what if this is the f4)

the guardians are exposed to space weirdness so I don’t think they’d be ‘freaked out’ by Johnny’s design in particular compared to people on earth for example, so I would say they’re more fascinated than disturbed by him (NOT the planet being eaten). Drax is deffo ‘interested’ because A: johnny is in fact a good looking guy, and B: he probably looks like a warrior with the silver and fire and Drax admires- I mean respects strong warriors and demonstrations of power (he probably thinks the dying planet is that)- “That is a real man, Peter Quill.” “Dude, come on.” Basically the Thor fangirling but on a different level.

the other are uneasy because they find it a bit harder to overlook the whole ‘this guy just came from and is watching a planet being eaten by some thing’. Last Johnny checked the only people who could space travel this far were his family, so he would go investigate- similar to Shalla, he can pass through things by turning his body into plasma (I haven’t figured that out yet 😆) Based on Mantis and Johnny’s interactions in marvel rivals (I forgot the exact quote but “your soul nearly burns as bright as your flames”) I think she would get a feeling from him that would lead her to reach out and therefore burn her hand BUT she does feel his pain and determination out of love.

I doubt anyone really listens to her at first because this guy is overseeing a planet’s destruction why do we care if he’s sad. The guardians likely have similar tech to Reed- especially how rocket is a genius, so they can track johnny’s energy signature to follow him to earth and BOOM PLOT.

the gotg are my favourite marvel characters and it’s gonna be so fun to write all their dynamics. so sorry for the worddump 😭

So, how hyped were we for Superman? Let's take a look.

Superman had a fucking juggernaut of an opening weekend. It hit theaters to $125m which is just phenomenal. Bearing in mind that opening weekend is a measurement of hype, not quality, this shows that fans were amped for this new direction for Superman and for the DC universe as a whole.

How amped? Let's put it into perspective by comparing it to the DCEU. If we were to slot this movie in with them, the hype levels for Superman (2025) would put it in the #3 slot for DCEU films.

1 - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice - $166m 2 - Suicide Squad - $133.7m x - Superman (2025) - $125m 3 - Man of Steel - $116.7m 4 - Wonder Woman - $103.3m 5 - Justice League - $93.8m

Literally the only DCEU films that beat it on the hype charts were Suicide Squad and the one where Batman and Superman met for the very first time in film.

Speaking of Batman, if we stack Clark next to Bruce's movies, he doesn't come up quite so high. He slots in at #4 on the Bat-hype charts.

1 - The Dark Knight Rises - $160.9m 2 - The Dark Knight - $158.4m 3 - The Batman - $134m x - Superman (2025) - $125m 4 - Joker - $96.2m 5 - Lego Batman - $53m

But that's really more a testament of what a cinematic juggernaut Batman has been in the 21st century than anything else.

I'm not sure we even need to go into Superman's own franchise history because Man of Steel was the highest-grossing Superman solo film with the highest-grossing opening weekend for years and, as established up there, 2025 just wrenched the opening weekend champion's belt away from it. But, for the record:

1 - Superman (2025) - $125m 2 - Man of Steel - $116.7m 3 - Superman Returns - $52.5m 4 - Superman II - $14.1m 5 - Superman III - $13.4m

Superman's had relatively few cinematic outings compared to Batman and most are from the 80's so inflation hit these charts pretty hard. There's not a lot of useful information to glean from that one.

Lastly, just for fun because I come from the Marvel side of the rivalry, what MCU movies would Superman (2025) stand shoulder-to-shoulder with in the hype domain? It obviously doesn't compare to the hype levels of Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man: No Way Home nor would anyone reasonably expect it to, but it actually fits rather comfortably between two previous James Gunn projects.

All things considered, given the company it's keeping, I find it ultimately unlikely that Superman will cross the billion-dollar mark. But an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- rating on Cinescore shows that it performed well with both critics and that rabid subset of fans who were eager to see it day 1.

So I can tentatively say we can expect this movie to settle comfortably into the $800-900m range, but we won't have a solid picture of whether it has legs until we see the second and third weekend takes.

It’s gotta be jarring to be one of the ten Guardians of the Galaxy fans that had to experience whatever shift was forced upon them after the 2014 movie came out.

Like, I recently rewatched the “Michael Korvac” episode of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and I skimmed the first issue of the 2008 Guardians the other night and my god, what must it have been like to have so much changed for brand synergy.

No blue and red uniforms, Rocket doesn’t have a British accent. Adaptations have made Rocket British for years, it was in Marvel v. Capcom 3 like, 2 years before the movie came out.

Gamora still had her cape and Rocket still had his uniform in Lego Marvel Superheroes (2013). In Lego Marvel Superheroes 2, the Guardians are their movie incarnations. Gamora’s in black leather, Drax has an uglier color palette, Peter Quill’s iconic design is now “red jacket and helmet-less mask” and his new favorite traits are being a cocky adult child, Baby Groot is here.

it’s truly dawning on me what sort of things had changed in order to make a more mainstream marketable version of the guardians for the movies and the ripple effect it had on everything else around it.

I think because they were so little known that Marvel felt like more liberties could be taken with their iconography and traits.

But like, these are still pre-established characters even before they were guardians. Sure they were more obscure but Drax was more than just big dumb loud guy who didn’t understand metaphors.

Drax Throws Rocket Across the Chasm But Vocoded to Voltes V no Uta

i liked that in iron man 2? 3? he had panic attacks. i liked loki in the avengers. he was a dick. i liked the use of diegetic music in guardians of the galaxy. paul rudd was pretty personable in ant-man ('damning with faint praise' huh?). doctor strange had some interesting visuals (was actually told to watch it for ref of a game i was working on at the time). strange 2 reminded me i like sam raimi's directing. no way home was awful but it turns out i have a soft spot for toby maguire and andrew garfield so i dont hate it as much as i should. i wouldnt watch any of those a second time. venom was shit; i liked it. the first spiderverse is a visual feast and v fun movie overall. i liked logan too and not just because hugh jackman is wolverine*. havent seen it in years but i remember liking how worn down and depressive it all felt. the dark knight's existence is justified by heath ledgers performance imo. the actual plot is like whatever. and batman sucks. but then heath pops his beautiful lil face up and im like.. awww ok i'll keep watching. Birds of Prey likes women so i like it for that reason (also im a sucker for harley quinn).

the batman was actually surprisingly good. some gorgeous shots. liked the tone. batman/batman returns have some of the most gorgeous sets ive ever seen. and i love michelle's catwoman. oh i forgot, constantine is actually a dc movie isnt it? i thought that one was genuinely good.

i have watched so many more marvel/dc super hero movies than this but i have nothing nice to say about the rest of them 👍
