Post E6 update

We have another seven characters added to the board, and an important bit of history revealed to us by the exterior of the Fish Market, The Snake's theoretical benevolence is gaining more evidence by the minute.

Fun fact, this is the first time we've had interactable characters who are Clients, rather than Employees, of Alley Buisnesses/Services.

Same about the whole Mick calling himself a monster thing. He does it in eps 1 and 3, too.

I love Mick 70s-80s style, too. I like his how he dressed in present-day (present at the time it was filmed), too:

I had the same thought about the 25 year old bottle.

I never noticed the lemons and apples, or at least I never acknowledged them. But he does have a coffee maker and coffee because he makes some for Beth and Josh. I also assumed it was for clients.

Lee Jay is the worst.

I love Josef's casual style, too. It's not a far cry from Mick's casual style. (See gifs above).

Now that I think about it, it is pretty funny that Beth barely knows Mick but trusts him anyway and is willing to risk everything for him.

I also assumed he robbed a blood bank. Or he maybe he had emergency packs in his car or something.

I have a headcanon that he called Josef after Beth presumably runs off after finding out he's a vampire.

Mick in that final scene made my heart physically hurt. The way he is hunched over himself and staggering out of the elevator shows the agony that he must be in. The scene made me hurt not just because of his obvious physical pain but also because of the shame in his body language and his voice when Beth came into the room. Alex's acting here is 💯 Oscar worthy.

I love Josef's protectiveness and tough love in this episode.

There is a goof in the scene where Lee Jay shoots Mick. We see Mick get shot in the front of one shoulder, but when he turns and falls onto his front, the holes are on the opposite shoulder.

Moonlight rewatch for millionth time

Episode 2 random thoughts and feelings I had while rewatching again: cause I’m bored and have nothing else to do or watch. And I love this show

Mick: monsters don’t get happy ever after. Me: Stop saying you’re a monster! Stop it now

I like Mick’s early 80’s look, it had a 1970ish vibe to it

I know Mick probably panicked but he should have just snapped Lee Jays neck before running off

I like how Beth’s like talk about my feelings? No I’d rather get to work bye lol same girl

I think I’ve said it before but I think Beth purposely picked out a 25 year old single malt to maybe catch Mick in a lie or maybe get some sort of reaction from him

My head canon is that Logan and Mick met over World or Warcraft and Mick beat Logan who then threatened Mick (think end game with Thor) and Mick was like oh okay I’m so scared then Logan hacked him and went to his place and was like oh shit my bad uh friends? When he realized Mick was also a vampire

I love him but Mick really needs to think things through before he acts

Ilene deserved better I’m glad she gets justice in the end

Mick says vampires don’t have a club house that they hang out at and yet we have this episode where we have vampires at a club that has freshies then several episodes later another club where they all play pool. So what’s the difference?

I like how Beth is a ride or die when it comes to Mick. She’s only known him a week but she’s already willing to break the law and go against her boyfriend and friend to help prove his innocence

I wonder what happened to Julia after this episode, I’m sure she went to therapy for everything that happened but it’s just strange we never see her again especially when Josh died

Is it bad that when Mick is running and jumping on the rooftop that StarWars bad lip reading of Yoda singing “now run jump” etc etc was playing in my head? Lol

Where did Mick get that blood packet from and why didn’t he get help for the silver buckshots in his body? Did he just rob a blood bank ? Because I highly doubt Guillermo would let his friend go off on his own in such a vulnerable situation

I like how they didn’t drag out the vampire secret for very long. Sometimes I feel like when writers and directors drag things out like that for too long it becomes a bit stale once things are actually revealed

and some of that good medgrapes. something something Their relationship was super slow developing because Medkit has a very hard time trusting people and Mindgrapes was the first person to treat him tenderly without ulterior motives. They were just friends for a lot of it because Medkit wasn’t ready for a relationship and Mindgrapes picked up on that so they were just a genuinely good friend to him as much as they could be and ultimately it turned into Med’s life is fucking weird, he has feelings for the zesty bat, why not

aaaand firepi. they just are. they’re my “ouhhh oh soft. ouhh old couple.” indulgence. firebrand’s kind of Bad at this but pi thinks it’s cute and she enjoys being openly allowed into the inner workings of the world. i fffeeel like i can’t make a statement on firebrand’s disappearance in relation to pi because umbrella might know what’s going on with it based off of the SFOTH QnA but it’s still super dubious so. Let’s just say when he disappeared it was for a planned reason and pi thought he would be coming back and then He Didn’t

i think i need a viscerally depressing Finn fic to cure my mental health. i need him to curl up on the floor and sob. weep. cry. i need him to wonder why. why he has to lose people, why his parents were awful, why he continues to mess up. i need him to cope and wonder and succumb. i think it would make me feel real again, you know?

and jake would be there, too. he’s always been a strong foundation for Finn throughout the series and given really solid advice through the medium of silly, goofy adventures. he’s a good brother.

maybe a visit or two from friends. bubblegum brings sweets, marceline plays him some sad music to really cycle out those rough feels, stuff like that. i think what i need most is a real feel episode where Finn just gets dragged through the mud. i know we’ve had episodes like that before, and they were really good!! i just need something infinitely more visceral and raw than AT could provide me while still being child-friendly.

While at the topic that there should be more dhampir Kate Bishop fics i rise u this, Kate's eyes in the hawkeye show are contact lenses because the character has blue eyes in the comics, sure! BUT other mcu actors dont need this compatibility so why should she, actually they are contact lenses to emulate the uncanny valley of daywalkers not exactly being humans like Wesley Snipes' eyes in Blade but looking human ENOUGH that u take longer to do a double take.

Oh and the half vampire parent in the mcu is obviously Derek Bishop and Eleanor is the one with the capacity for persuasion powers killgrave style, ok not really killgrave cause in the comics bishop's power is empath based i think? Like raven from DC but still!(they do switch the parents roles in the mcu)

Could the City Between and the Dresden Files conceivably share a universe? How would Harry Dresden fare in the City Between?

oh HMMMM

They might be able to! The main conceit of City Between, worldbuilding-wise, is basically that the Fantasy Dimension is occupying the same space as the Human Dimension as a default thing - Fantasy Dimension is Behind - and Between is the soft space in the middle that things and people can go through. This does not exactly exist in Dresden Files, but I feel like it could validly coexist with its worldbuilding.

On the other side of things, the fae and other Behindkind seem to live in a more limited world than the Dresden Files? They're very firm that humans don't have magic (though whether they're right is another question), there seems to only be one kind of werewolf, etc. However, this could easily mean that the Behindkind just don't interact enough with the human world to be aware of all the forces in it.

Politically it's a little trickier - the ruling class of Behindkind are fae, which ought to have some relationship with the Winter or Summer Courts of Dresdenverse. However, they have their own ruler, the King Behind, who is a sort of Fisher King-figure to the whole world/dimension of Behind. (I don't think his authority practically extends over everyone in his territory, but certainly there are no other sovereign powers in opposition to him.)

I think if you explained Behind as its own particular dimension of what Harry would call the Nevernever, and glossed over some details on both sides, you could make it work. The main points are A) putting it outside of Mab and Titania's jurisdiction, B) explaining why these fae don't have apparent history with the White Council, and C) minor details like "do these lycanthropes/vampires/etc. match any of the Dresdenverse ones" and "why do the Behindkind have Seelie and Unseelie lords that aren't in the Dresdenverse Courts."

(I do default to explaining other canons within the framework of the Dresden canon, simply because there's so much of the Dresden canon and it seems designed to keep fitting new elements.)

As for how Harry would do there?

Well. First point to make is that the titular City Between is Hobart, Australia. I do not think Harry would enjoy being in Australia. :P

Strengthwise, it depends where he is in his own series, but I think Harry would be a match for most of the CB players in combat. Taking fae and such by surprise is kind of his thing, and they're culturally arrogant enough that I don't think they would be prepared for either a human spellslinger or a gun. They're good at carnage! But he's very good at magical-mundane scrapping.

Magically, Between would probably annoy him because it's a lot more fluid than the dimensions and systems he's used to, but he'd also be fascinated watching people work it. He is a magic nerd, after all.

Morally and intellectually he would not vibe with fae culture, nor with Pet's three "psychos" in their earlier appearances. They have an explicit disregard for human deaths that would make him MAD. They're also pursuing a long-term serial murder investigation (focusing on fae murders, though humans have also incidentally died), which he would obviously get into the middle of somehow as an upstanding wizard PI. He would probably solve it significantly sooner, too, I have to say!

Man, that would be messy.

So yeah, watching these fae and vampire tramping through human society and brushing aside the collateral damage their society is causing, all while (inefficiently, as far as he can see) investigating an apparent immortal serial killer? Harry would be feuding with them very early in his own investigation. Hopefully not tipping over into outright war, but the relationship would not be smooth.

Oh! And there's a teenage human girl in their household who keeps trying to get everyone to play nice together. Tripping all his protective chivalry instincts.

He WOULD like Pet. He would be so so stressed about her but he'd respect her moral compass and determination, and try very hard to make sure she could count on him as a human ally. And Pet would appreciate that! She'd need him not to try and get between her and her psychos, because she gets attached to them quickly, but having the option of a human wizard protector who understands all her moral issues would be kinda great.

In conclusion... I think if Harry showed up during City Between canon, he could turn it into a Dresden Files book. I think his resolution to their issues might well be just as good as the way things go in their canon... but differently good. I wouldn't trade that universe for canon but I think it would be fascinating to see.
