The thing is...the manipulate jerk that Jake is, he was in her life for way more time than people think. No one understands how much Jake impacted her and broke her. Yeah that can happen in one month too but she literally resents him in a way that makes me think that it wasn't just one or two months. Feel like there's a chance they kept seeing eachother for few more months or like just hooking up. I mean I've read The Moviestar and Me so I wouldn't put it past him to keep coming back to a 21 year old Taylor. He has a pattern

Jake is a POS, Taylor said it was “a kind of bad that gets so overpowering you can't even write about it," Manuscript sings of trauma, and after dating younger boys. I know the WANGBT swiftie-lore is they were on/off, but it was in 2010. Her team said it ended December 2010. To Vanity Fair she said in 2013 "since 2010 I have dated exactly two people.” That is Harry and Conor, so she said she didn't date Jake in 2011.

He also just doesn't sound like someone with who 'the armor falls', 'a worthwhile fight', or the 'golden age of something good and right':

"It was a relationship where I felt very critiqued and subpar. He'd listen to this music that nobody had heard of … but as soon as anyone else liked these bands, he'd drop them. And finally to USA Today: "WANEGBT is a definitive portrait of how I felt when I finally stopped caring what my ex thought of me. He made me feel like I wasn't as good or as relevant as these hipster bands he listened to. So I made a song that I knew would absolutely drive him crazy when he heard it on the radio. Not only would it hopefully be played a lot, so that he'd have to hear it, but it's the opposite of the kind of music that he was trying to make me feel inferior to.

So maybe State of Grace is about some blue eyed fire sign we never knew about... Conor Kennedy is a Leo (fire sign) with brown eyes... or maybe that detail was changed, or its a line she liked from an earlier song. Lots of swifties think its about Jake and that's all cool, but I don't think much of Red is about Jake apart from ATW. ... and I don't' think Taylor does either because:

In October 2013 she spoke with Vulture, “I heard from the guy that most of Red is about,” Swift said. “He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.’ That was nice. Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude."

"Most of Red" is about someone who listens to her music, unlike Jake who didn't listen to her music, did rant at her and she so much wanted him to hear WANGBT that she made it an earworm. And:

oh red <3 i'm actually surprised by this ranking, i thought it would be higher than evermore (i might have been more strict on this one...) either way, this is the album i listen to the most, the genre i enjoy the most. i think her lyricism is at an all time high, and she manages to reach the core of a relationship turned sour. it's a long album, which centers on a single story (the dissolution of a relationship) but it's never repetitive, which i think is achieved by the chaotic tracklist. this was super enjoyable to listen to, and it was never boring (which didn't happen with ttpd). either way, loved the album <3 onto speak now

state of grace: this is one of my all time favorites... her best opener, amazing lyricism, the drums!!!!! 10/10

red: i don't listen to this one enough tbh.... so good!! the guitar is amazing 8,8/10

treacherous: this remains one of the best songs she's ever written... nothing comes close to this bridge. "nothing safe is worth the drive and i will follow you home" GAH! 10/10

i knew you were trouble: i was obsessed with the video when this came out hahah, the song is just fine to me 7,5/10

all too well: although i slightly prefer the 10 minute version i think this one is a pretty much perfect song, and the one which best showcases her talent. a gorgeous song, would rate it an 11 if i could 10/10

22: so fun, i loved it live. it does get me a little whiplash beign right after all too well tho lol 7,5/10

i almost do: i really like this one :( it's so sad, i love it 8,8/10

we are never getting back together: so far, the tvs in this album have been so good but this is um. nawt good. the song gets a goodish grade because it's fun 6/10

stay stay stay: i'm a stay stay stay defender... it's a fun song but it ties in with the theme of staying and leaving and coming back together we see through the album... 7,7/10

the last time: i don't think this one is a fan favorite at all but i really like it?? me and my bf love to sing this one in the car which might be weird hahah but it's very nice to sing along 8,5/10

holy ground: this one used to be one of my favorite songs, i don't reach for it so much anymore but i really love it 9,3/10

sad beautiful tragic: the saddest song on this album and that's saying a LOT. heartwrenching. 9,8/10

the lucky one: my personal theory is that the lucky one and nothing new are the same song, the lucky one is just less personal and vulnerable. i do like it a lot tho 7,9/10

everything has changed: so what if i like this song... 7,4/10

starlight: i kinda hate this one lol, but the new vocals make it slightly better tbh, her voice sounded too high in the original. 5/10

begin again: it's such a nice way to end this album... "for the first time, what's past is past" :'))) 8,5/10

award shows during red era were fun bc I knew no matter what happened swifties would get into some big fight with directioners ... like I'm not even exaggerating, there were discourse after every single one. I don't really remember most of them besides the iconic british accent during WANGBT grammy performance and this one time (I think at the american music awards???) where taylor wore a dress that looked like a dress a model had worn with one direction on a magazine cover. Did I discover the identity of Jake’s friend from the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” studio session?

We’ve all heard the story before, several times. x x x

So I was in the middle of a completely unrelated deep dive when I uncovered a piece of Swiftie lore that’s been unsolved for over a decade: who was the random guy that barged into Taylor’s studio session with Max Martin and Shellback to talk about Jake Gyllenhaal? I think I figured it out.. allegedly. Of course I wasn’t there so I cannot actually be sure. But let’s break it down.

Max Martin tells the story about how WANEGBT was written in this interview. (@ 52:30) He says,

“We had our first day with her at Conway Studios…and Maroon 5 was recording next door— like the next studio next door — and this guy shows up, a friend of theirs, and we literally haven’t started the session yet. He comes over there, ‘Hey, I heard Taylor Swift was here. I’ve got to say hello.’

I’m like, ‘Uh… really?’

And he goes, ‘Oh no, I totally know her. It’s fine. We’re friends.’

So he walks in—and turns out, he didn’t know her. But I’m sort of vouching for this guy, like, ‘Hey, here’s… as you know,’ [and she’s just like], ‘No, I don’t know.’

He started talking about some ex-boyfriend he wanted her to call—it was really messy. And he leaves and I apologize.”

They then work on something else and come back to the idea of WANGBT the next day.

And because we know from Taylor that “Message in a Bottle” was the first song they ever wrote together, Max’s story confirms that this was the song they worked on the day Jake and Maroon 5’s friend walked in.

While promoting the Red album, Taylor mentioned that in January 2012, she told her label and producer that she wanted to branch out and work with new people. She began reaching out and scheduling studio sessions with different producers. In one interview, she recalls emailing Max Martin with an idea for a song, even though she wasn’t scheduled to work with him for “almost six months.” If she sent that email in January, then “almost six months” later would place their first session in late May.

This is also backed up by the Lover diary entry from June 10, 2012 where she talks about spending the first week of June writing “22” and “IKYWT” with “the guys I wrote ‘getting back together’ with”.

So I looked at Adam Levine’s tweets from that time and found a gold mine. Although Maroon 5 had finished recording the Overexposed album— entirely at Conway Studios — around April 14th, they just so happened to be in the studio on May 22nd to record a special edition deluxe track. And Adam has brought along his friend/roommate, Gene Hong.

The tweets about being in the studio and Gene messing with his computer are 5 minutes apart.

So I google Gene Hong and his wikipedia page literally identifies him as the best friend of Jake Gyllenhaal.

So it’s not like they are only friends because of Adam. Jake says he and Adam are still close because of Gene.

After reading through his tweets and credentials (notably, Wild ‘n Out) he seems to be the out-there, comedian type. The type of person that would be bold enough to crash his friend’s ex-girlfriend’s workplace essentially — despite never having met her before, according to Taylor.

It’s entirely possible that I’m wrong here and their first session was actually earlier in the month. But it’s worth noting that she was pretty busy for most of May. She was confirmed to have written Forever Winter, Run, Everything Has Changed and who knows what else. I once thought they had their first session around April 14th while Adam Levine was still finishing up the standard version of his album but because of Taylor specifically saying they were scheduled to write together “almost six months” after she emailed him, that just doesn’t seem likely now.

So MIAB was the first song she and Max Martin wrote together and it was in 2012. That's interesting. Also the songs she chose for the Max Martin medley are interesting too. "Standing here hoping it gets to you" "That's how you get the girl" "please leave me stranded, it's so romantic"

I love that she chose these max songs to celebrate him in Sweden.

Taylor said 'I was in a studio with them writing a completely different song" said it was a friend of her Ex that she hadn't met before. The song they started and didn't finish could have been Message in a Bottle (because it is also with Max) (Taylor said MIAB was first 19 May 2024) but they wrote WANGBT instead, so they were kind of the same time, but WANGBT was finished first.

This post of her in a kitchen is dragged in, but that was the day before not with Max... I think that was about Babe given the timing with H's NZ kiss the day before MIB doesn't make sense. It would also make sense why MIB wasn't finished that day.

Max said WANGBT was first: (52:30 Mins) "Our first day was in Conway Studios. I was quite nervous, quite nervous. A guy from Maroon 5 shows up…" He tells the story about WANGBT.

It's well known Jake is friends with the lead of Maroon 5, and Max said 'guy from Maroon 5', and she wears Jake glasses in the MV. But did she and Jake ever get back together? And it was more than a year since Jake and Taylor broke up and Jake was dating other people.

The thing is Savan Kotecha wrote What Makes You Beautiful, he is Max's protege and wrote a lot in One Directions first records, he is still close to Harry and knew the whole Haylor story. Years after being publicly cut from 1D he was still praising Harry’s songwriting in a (contentious) interview (45 mins). So I will always side-eye WANGBT.

THE Daisy’s Origin may not be what we think…

If you didn’t know, in August of 2012, Taylor released the music video for We Are Never Getting Back Together.

Then with Red singles…I think WANGBT was a good lead and then Trouble is a one two punch but yes then I’d go with All Too Well and Treacherous to continue the move into maturity, maybe end on The Lucky One for a nice meta bookend with how self aware WANGBT is.

wanegbt is a GREAT lead single, but i think a country #2 is a great move. and tbh, i think i bet you think about me would’ve been the perfect choice. like. it’s upbeat and catchy, it’s laying out the themes of the album, it’s a good fucking song, i think it really could’ve worked. BUT assuming the album stays the same, i think holy ground would’ve made a great second single. again, upbeat, portraying a different side of heartbreak than wanegbt, and a good fucking song

from there ikywt and 22 are solid (she actually releases the music videos right after they’re announced as a singles glory glory hallelujah).

and from there do all too well! amazing song, she’s on tour and she knows just how much of a fan favorite it is, and she’s proven country radio will play fucking wanegbt, so throw them a six minute song. take a swing in the name of artistic growth!!

i think everything has changed is a good choice— ed’s exploding, the music video is adorable, it can be played on both country and pop radio, and i like it as the final single for red. just don’t fucking. release the music video a month before it’s released as a single. wtf happened

if you want to do a sixth single, then do begin again. like it’s a great song and music video i’m not keeping it in the vault
