I love how 'beats their child' has become shorthand for 'evil character, do not sympathise' in period dramas. Is it at all historically accurate? No. But it is pretty amazing that it's taken us less than one human lifetime to go from 'this is perfectly normal and expected' to 'if you do this you're the scum of the earth and will burn in hell'.

Sometimes remembering what the world used to be like 10 years ago feels like remembering life before the zombie apocalypse. I do wonder if there will come a point that I totally forget what life was like, and the absolute certainty I had in the delusion that people are mostly good and that the progress in the world was basically inevitable. I didn't even realize how much I believed in the future until I didn't believe in it anymore.

I'm getting tired of seeing posts and videos of people in the trad community saying that cooking/baking is a skill girls (only girls) should be taught. Everyone needs to eat and it feels like such a disservice to not teach your boys how to make food, both to the boys but also to the girls they may marry in the future if that's their calling
