ive seen so many people wondering how starkid makes such good straight couples (lautski, paulkins, etc), but i think we really need to talk about this.

in a lot of todays modern media, shows centered around straight couples are heavily focused on the sexuality of it. while they may take a few episodes to flesh out a small pining story, starkid takes that to a whole new level.

let's look at lautski for example; our first introduction (I KNOW HE WAS IN TGWDLM AND BF I DONT CARE HE WASN'T TRULY INTRODUCED UNTIL NMT) to pete and steph was nmt2's episode, 'abstinence camp'. sure, we know that sexuality played a big part in this episode, but if you pay close attention, you know that nothing ever actually happens between steph and pete, they get caught by lumberaxe and then boy jerry before they can do anything.

before then, though, we get a back story of them meeting, it's shown how steph likes him for his little quirks and oddities, and how pete is happy that someone took the time to get to know that about him. before they join showers, they talk for what feels like forever, going back and forth.

however, in nerdy prudes must die AND the guy who didn't like musicals BOTH, neither of the couples even kiss, they get close but they don't. even npmd which centers around two high school seniors over the course of a few months, not even a peck on the cheek. HOWEVER, in scenes like the summoning, we can see steph and pete both trying to hide the other behind themselves.

in tgwdlm, paul sends himself into the theater to go take down the meteor so emma has some hopes of a life.

while it's implied that they love the other in a romantic sense, it's never outright said, because you don't make romantic bonds in the situations they were in!! they made the romantic connections before the actual plot of the musical gets started!! they're so close and care so much because of the shit they went through together!!

the reason why we're so captivated by straight couples from starkid is that they don't have to be couples to show how close they are and how much they care, because at the end of the day the lang brothers know that a bond is deepest when it's pure. if you care for someone enough, you'd do anything to keep them happy, even if it isn't with you.

this except it’s will byers turning into a minion. so now will is a minion, and mike is like “will why ru a minion🧐” and will catches him up on all the minion lore! and mike transforms into a minion as well. and theyre like woohoo we’re minions now, then they rember that vecans still being spooky. so they go in upside down using their minion powers. so they show up and r like “haha vecna henry 1 ur sooo ugly and stinky we dont like u😡” then mike and will use their epic gay minion powers and vecna dies🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🥳🥳🥳🥳🤩🤩🥳🥳🤩yippee! and now vecna is dead for ever! so u know what that means😏then byler gyat freaky🙁but not supa freaky they just kissed bcuz theyre 14-15 and some ppl needa get a grip🤗🤗also chappell roan started playing🫢and everything thing was right in the world cuz byler is canon!!!!!

SPOILERS FOR LAZARUS AND ALSO SOME THEORIES

Interestingly enough, all the intros from episode 1-5 explain why each Lazarus member took hapna but i dont think they actually did:

The intro serves the purpose of showing hapnas effect on the world through the point of view of our characters

Leland: he took hapna as a recreational drug, with no real intent to hide or remove his suffering he describes as a childish "take it if your feeling down" the way he describes it as well he never changes his childish boyish tone when speaking about it as if this situation is just normal, but it's a bit out of character for Leland to be this nonchalant, Leland us very expressive by nature I think he would be angry or even sad this has happened to him if he ACTUALLY took the drug but notice how he only ever says we the personal pronoun "i" Is never used

Doug: the is the first intro so it does a lot to introduce to this world but it also gives us a look into his mind "iv always imagined how the world would end ever since I was a child" which represents his ever so cynical and nonchalant personality very well, but he's far from uncaring or rude he does genuinely care for the world, he wouldn't be going trough all this trouble if he wouldn't be also find out later trough out the episode that he's a brilliant mind who had opportunity and opportunity snuffed out , he never goes out to explain if he took hapna or not he just describes what it did to the world

Chris: I think her intro really solidifies my theory, she starts off by explaining her thought process when hapna entered the market " why do humans go trough so much grief ? Can't we just have fun " but I think that's a bit out of charcter for her she is bu far one of the strongest characters mentally going trough so much trauma and grief and actually leaving that life behind and creating a new identity for herself while still being this fun loving person is an insanely difficult thing to do, now here's the second part "SOME PEOPLE were even saying it cured the pain of heartbreak" and the next says : but I though that was kinda weird, how can you get over heartbreak" " What if we were duped?" BASICALLY IMPLIYING THAT SHE NEVER TOOK HAPNA because she never got over her heartbreak !! She doesn't know if she was duped or not because she never took it

Elaine: her and axel are the only ones that explicitly say they took hapna but I also feel like both of them are unreliable narrators, from the episode heaven is a place on earth we know that elain was raised In a cult where the ai developed by SKINNER HIMSELF AND WAS A COPY OF HIM was treated as a god she literally says at the end of the intro " I started thinking of him as a god" if that's not irony I don't know what is , I think the drug she was talking about was the fantasy of the cult in of itself her happiness with Hanna the quick dopamine hapna gave these 2 things are not exclusive from each other

Axel: the shortest intro but also the most interesting IMO, just like elain he also directly says he took it, it was just circulated in the prison when it was released so he just took it without thinking much, THING IS HE SAYS IT DIDNT HAVE MUCH OF AN EFFECT ON HIM?!??! MHHHH???!?! WHAT DO YOU MEAANNN IT HAD TO EFFECT ON YOU he also has the least amount of personality in his intro even tho he is FILLED with it, he's sarcastic bastard who gives no shits and does whatver he wants whenever he wants while would his intro be so plain? Why would he wanna take hapna in the first place ? Oh axel you grief stricken whore I love you

On another note I do think this theory makes more sense from a literary standpoint, the name lazarus is generally used as a reference to restoration and resurrection and what better name to name the group who's literally going to revive humanity ? Neat isn't it?

Do you think there's a contradiction in Brienne and Jaimes journey in asos ending on an oath? Since the entire book and even before that, ever since Brienne was introduced, we're being told that oaths don't actually matter in order for a person to act morally, and seemingly this decision doesn't really align with what's being told across this arc. Or is it more like a last (sorta) attempt at naive idealism/chivalry before the total collapse of it in Briennes story/Jaimes 'idividualization' in affc and the confrontation with stoneheart?

+ the oaths i think are a little bit more complicated than “they dont matter at all.” the system and they themselves shouldnt dictate your morality and jaime’s arc does properly deconstruct them but there are promises that are worth keeping and ideals that r meaningful to reach towards, so i think this tension is a key component in the thorough investigation of knighthood in the story. but again, u see the interesting aspect here of jaime doing things he didnt actually swear to do. ntm we know that jaime will continue to break his little oaths (valonqar for instance 💀, hell what he is doing rn is fucking off w brienne & abandoning his duty to save an enemy lol “my place is with the king”) and feast overtly highlights that the contradictions obviously still exist.

and u r right that there is an element of “naive idealism” present again and a lot of navigating with jaime regarding what it even takes and what does it mean to be a good person. and ive said before that to me “kingslayer” is a better person than “ghtj” (and how he is trying and failing to be that)

ultimately we r gonna land on “what is the right thing to do?” instead of “if u manage to keep ur vows u succeeded and r a certified #goodperson.” and the vow to cat is more that than anything else: it is the protection of two innocent little girls who were victims of the world and specifically your family. it is not even just the repayment of a debt it is trying to complete the wish of a dead mother who with her family was destroyed by house lannister and the ideals of knighthood that embodies on a deeper lvl.

Lived there his whole life actually. A very sheltered kid due to being raised by grandparents that were in Octaria at one point. So they wanted to make sure nothing really happened to him

An only child but he had his cousin (Nakji, Takoyaki) of the three, he'd be the middle child with Nakji and the youngest.

He's got two friends (three if we count malachite -- the smallfrt) outside of the platoon. Dulce, and (unfortunately) Scara

He dating Melon (oc of mine), we know this

Kinda funny it started as her just battling with him cause he was good but then it turned something more

His time before the platoon was mostly

"Hey are you related to that Sauz idol?" Or "hey, you related to that Sauz wrestler?" It got annoying very quickly so he started introducing himself as croissant and nothing else

Aside from that, if he wasn't turfing he was at home reading or watching shows. Guys a very boring person

hi shui, im a big fan of your writing, artwork and other posts on here! i was wondering if you had a theory on why in 'Second Skeleton' when brad and anna are talking, he says "I haven't felt like this in a long time. Since Kate"? within the direct context of the conversation, it sounds like he means it as a response to the "rush" he gets when working with true artists, saying he's "met the right person", presumably dana, but i'm a bit confused by this because tbh it doesn't seem like to me that brad and dana really have that much of a connection? they haven't even really had any meaningful one-on-one conversations at this point (or ever) - mainly its just jo+dana+brad talking about cozy galaxy stuff. i figured the "rush" and "met the right person" were just the same type of bragging-about-how-good-my-life-is-to-my-competitive-ex stuff he and anna had already been engaging in, but then he mentions kate (and is actually honest to anna about who she was), which makes me think he was being honest about that sentiment, though i don't fully understand why he would feel that way at this point? what about where he's currently at in terms of work / life / relationships could possibly be comparable to the innocent childish happiness he presumably felt before kate's death and his subsequent trauma?

haha thank you ! not sure how much of this will make sense but ill try to explain my own thoughts on it:

to me, the "rush" hes talking about is the feeling of being exposed, since he said it specifically after anna told him, "you were naked but now, you're exposed." — i dont think its necessarily in relation to working with a creative, but letting himself be vulnerable in a way he hadnt been before .

we havent seen any of dana and brads actual in-depth interactions which is one of the qualms ive had with s4 . why introduce a very interesting dynamic that influences both the characters greatly if youre not going to use it to the fullest ? but their impact on one another is definitely there, and it makes me sad that they didnt explore that much this season because it could be something very interesting . but the effects are there; brad being more open with his feelings, something he criticizes dana for, and dana being more evil, something she wouldve criticized brad for in earlier seasons

i think what makes this "rush" comparable to kate is having a vulnerable point, something to protect; and he places that feeling in dana a little bit as a way to project his vulnerability onto something more tangible, when in reality its more of the concept of having a weak spot now . dana is a weak spot, but its much deeper than that

the theme for brad this season is him hunting himself: trying to target his own vulnerabilities, forcing himself into a corner again and again . thats the rush . him attaching himself to kate, making himself vulnerable and getting hurt — that is also him hunting himself . so what hes doing this season is exactly that . its just kate all over again

ive never really viewed kate as a character or a thing, but more as a ... concept ? i guess ? a plot device . something that lingers in the back of brads mind, haunting his narrative . so its not "dana = kate", its "his current situation with attaching a vulnerable target to himself = his previous situation with attaching a vulnerable target to himself"

CAINE:

spoils you, a lot, as well as kind of babying you. will it do you any good in the future? probably not, but for now it works since hes putting you before everything else. makes sure IHAs arent too hectic, though... it took him a while to find that sweet spot between too crazy and too boring, caine isnt really good at mellowing himself out.. has probably spooked you at least once on accident since he has this large booming voice and hes kind of out there.... he didnt mean to startle you, please dont cry! he makes funny faces to try to make you stop crying

POMNI:

very bad at comforting someone when theyre crying and i think this would still be an issue with you even if youre her kid/adoptive kid.. younger sibling... something.. tries the basic stuff you do to calm a crying kid down; funny faces, candy, toys, ect ect. over time she does get better at identifying what you need in scenarios where things are upsetting you. speaks for you a lot of the time when there can be a possible conflict, kind of shields you from things that could hurt you out of fear that something is going to hit too hard. long run its not ideal, but similar to caine, it works in the moment, you know?

RAGATHA:

very sweet and patient with you, hardly ever raises her voice at people and she will never raise her voice around you. gently urges you to try to speak for yourself and stand up for yourself when someone is being a little mean (though, to be fair, i cant see any of the current cast being intentionally mean.. we'll get to jax in a minute hush). very encouraging, too. kind of a mix between letting you be sensitive, but also urging you to try to get a little tougher, you know? never makes you do things youre not comfortable with doing, though. lets you hang out in her room if youre getting too overwhelmed with something, lets you play with and mess with some of her sewing stuff (supervised! needles are sharp!)

JAX:

teases you but is gentler with you, though with how sensitive you are sometimes even softening himself isnt enough. while the others try to shield and protect you from the world around you, hes likely going to try to push you to be more... bold, tough, you know. not sensitive. i feel that he might be too pushy with you and may thrust you into the deep end before youre ready for it, so either youre going to need to speak up, or someone else will... generally not ideal since hes more of a big brother figure that kind of messes with his younger siblings rather than a parent.... shrugs.. does stand up for you the second someone else makes you cry, regardless of if they do it intentionally or not

KINGER:

the dad. the father, the papa. the grandfather, even. maybe its because i hc that he already has kids out in the real world and he instinctively knows what to do with you... but i think he would be really good with you developing a thicker skin. does not shame you for who you are, though. actually i feel like he would also remind you that being sensitive isnt a big deal and it doesnt exactly make you weak compared to others. it just means you have big emotions, all the better to connect with people, you know? good dad. probably plays catch with you... those talks kids and dads have when theyre fishing that carries a life lesson... or maybe admin was introduced to really specific scenarios growing up... shrugs

ZOOBLE:

cross between jax and pomni i think. zooble is bad at comforting people, but i do think they would push for you to grow a spine and snap back at someone when theyre messing with you. though unlike jax they dont immediately throw you into it, rather i think they would have one on one time with you where you guys just talk about the stuff... still stands up for you, though they tend to give you a minute to speak for yourself during situations to say youre not okay with whats being done to you. probably teaches you little comebacks and insults to say to people when theyre being assholes

GANGLE:

honestly? she can relate. i can see this going two ways... perhaps being both at the same time...? shrugs.. she can relate to you because shes also sensitive, and it leads to you guys having this sweet sibling connection where you guys dont feel so bad for crying so easily. or it inspires gangle to try to be tougher, for your sake, so you have someone to lean on during tougher days. i think both are nice, in my opinion. similar to ragatha she lets you hang out in her room, drawing.. you both use art to express yourselves when wording things get too hard

her name is iris, i was planning on revealing that in a drawing or something but i guess i have to call her that now since you need something to call her right? in her early designs, shes an angel though i dont know if i ever will solidify that idea. i do like the idea of her being unsettling and having that non-human vibe hence her blank eyes. i also though that since demons exist in the sally face universe, surely angels too right?

she's heavily modelled after me, basically my persona. i fully look like her except the white hair and facial piercings, I only have earrings right now 😅 (and also maybe the height I WISH K was that tall irl oh well). shes punk and admittedly im still very new to the scene so ive yet to really incorportate that to her design. shes filipino, i don't know if you've noticed but some of my doodles have her speaking in bisaya. I rarely make her speak especially with Sally next to her. She likes him (like really likes him and tbh who doesn't? look at him he's so cute.) She has a funny way of showinf it tho, maybe in future drawings you'll see it

Sal and Iris meet through another oc that a friend of mine made that I haven't introduced yet. Her name is Mary, she and Iris are besties. Mary and the SF gang are friends from college, and there's a party that they all go to (actually the animatic I'm working on rn) and Mary brings Iris along (forces her to go out more like it) where Iris meets Sal.

okay now can we PLEASE be chill and normal when i say this? Im not defending canon junko, not saying anything about her, just saying what i as someone who enjoys these concepts of the danganronpa characters and writing characters believe is more compelling

Okay. Junko Enoshima. ICONIC character, shes not the most cosplayed character for nothing, but shes also very... characterless? She has NOTHING really going for her at all. In thh we see mukuro, not her, so we dont learn much there, and every other time we see her its all "despair despair despair" which is FINE, keep her on topic, but i just cant help but feel like she could be a better villain if her motivation was more than just "boreddd!" or her personality was more than despair, bored, and fashion diva.

Danganronpa, to be fair, isnt the best at characterization, especially for its female characters. It falls into the tricky trap of making the characters. Well. *character* all around their talent. I see this a lot with danganronpa oc's! Dr like to throw one or two personality traits at one of the 16 characters and top it with the figurative talent bow and some tragic, needlessly dark and trope filled most the time, backstory. (Ex: himiko- sleepy, likes tenko and angie, mage. Done. I understand she CAN be written deeper, but i only ever see that done by fans, in game she and so many other characters are so shallowly written)

So how does this apply to Junko? Well, like i said earlier, her whole shtick without being the shsl despair is shes a fashion diva, she has an opposite twin (ive never seen any of the animes, does any of that ever get explained? The last name thing, looking totally different, anything? I dont remember it, but i could be totally overlooking something) and shes kind of a bitch

That is. SO boring. Her design is the only thing going for her, its cute, her monokuma clips and pigtails are iconic and adorable, sure im keeping that the same. But by the GODS give me something to work with!! If i asked anyone to make me someone who looks like a fashionista theyd give me 50 copies of junko i assure you. The personality is so nothing to me. And do not get me STARTED on her despair motivation, that comes later, NOW we rewrite her personality.

Im not totally renovating her, dont worry, just SOMETHING compelling, so not including any despair stuff i think Junko is absolutely the straight girl who compliments your shoes and then giggles to her friends, someone who winks and smiles sweetly before clawing her way to the top. I like to think she and mukuro are similar in that way, that theyre both ruthless to get what they want

For her backstory, she obviously came from a rich family. Like look at her. Again, no clue on most of her and mukuros actual backstory because it made me gag reading two lines in but to explain the last name change and different childhoods, i think they were seperated at birth. Mukuro living in a poorer area, growing up fighting tooth and nail and becoming the soldier she is, and Junko fighting tooth and nail in her mansion for every drop of attention she could get. Then, somehow, mukuro was introduced to junko with the knowledge that they're twin sisters as young kids/tweens maybe. Mukuro seems more introverted and almost shy, so junko wouldve probably used that to her advantage somehow, both elated to have a sister (she more than likely had plently of empty friends she just kept around, but a *sister* is different! That's what she thought at least) and angered by the lack of attention. She seems like the older sibling who lies to your face and tricks you as a prank, just for giggles. I can definitely see her liking pranks. She OBVIOUSLY has so many disorders, including rich spoiled and/or neglected child disorder (this wouldve been a fun detail to parallel with togami somewhere too!) but i think the lack of treatment on that wouldve caused her to spiral more and more, not understanding WHY she wants to hurt people or cause chaos, but doing it anyway and acting out more and more as an outlet. Attention, positive and negitive both, she cant tell the difference, is all she really wants at the end of the day i think.

Ok. Designs. I said i wouldnt change it, and im not, just adding small details here and there. Firstly they look hella different for being "identical" sisters (i assume anyways) which i KNOW is possible but youll rip the "junko dyes her hair that color" headcanon from my cold dead hands, she has black hair and freckles too she just wont show it. Also! In offical art her eyes go from blue to grey to whatever colors all the time so im also headcanoning that she and mukuro have grey eyes, but junko puts blue contacts in. Cant be a fashionista without looking the part, she always reminds herself!

Alright. Second to last we can do this. This ones my least favorite though. Her and mukuro. You can manipulate someone without sexually assaulting them, i assure you. Shes smart enough to be able to, obviously, im sure shes seduced people in the past but theres no point to throwing that in there as another reason to hate her. She kills people!!!! She ran a killing game!!! Obviously she sucks!!! Its never stated in game and they have to shoehorn it in, its stupid and im getting rid of it. Its not like korekiyo where its a lot of his motivations and backstory, the enoshima/ikusaba incest detail is so unnecessary and gross. Similarly to korekiyo, its awfully done too. Its not representing a tragic abuse story between sisters, its another "oh, but dont you hate this character sooo much?" throwaway buzzword. Im ignoring it, its stupid.

Last one!! Her despair motivation!! Okay, her being "bored" is sooo whatever. Youre not izuru, you can pick up a hobby or two. What. Go watch a movie. Get a job. I wasnt really sure what to do here so my rewrite would lean into her desperate need for attention, as well as whatevers wrong with her head wanting to hurt people/see people hurting as an outlet. She has mukuro who had hurt people so so often as a soldier by her side and said. "Wow. Im a god. I can do whatever i want. I wonder if i *could* do this" and then she fucking did?? Im sure her parents were like super big governmental people, and mukuro seems like she loves her sister a lot (IN A NORMAL WAY. POINTS TO ABOVE PARAGRAPH.) and if she was given puppy dog eyes would go. "Sigh. Yeah okay we can try to end the world." And gave her the military related information she had. Junko was bored, fucked in the head, wanted attention, and most of all. She COULD do it. So why wouldnt she?

Dont think she regrets it at all, she likes feeling bad because its new, its unpredictable, shes felt GOOD in her privileged life and she wants to hurt others and herself now, i mean, she said she was going to kill herself before she created the tragedy
