1. Source attachment isn’t evil in the slightest; almost every Introject starts off with some form of source attachment. It’s not a moral issue. People saying this are assholes, and I’m sorry you’ve gotta deal with them.

2. Source detachment is a major step of recovery, but it will look different for everyone, especially for folks at different stages. For instance, we have two introjects, and both are very different in how they’re detaching. One is still almost completely attached to source, but has very few pseudomemories, while the other is detaching a lot, but often gets caught up in pseudomemory flashbacks.

Our tips aren’t the most informed, as we only have ourselves to go off of, but:

Changing names can help remind introjects they’re their own person. Do you need to? Of course not. We aren’t! But it can help some people.

Some folks find it helpful to review their source and spot the differences. Some find it more helpful to avoid their source entirely.

For us, a big one was a change of language. Roy found it very helpful to call himself Real Roy, and his source Book Roy. Rather than saying “I remember when I did that,” he says “I remember when Book Roy did that.” It’s helped him work out a lot more of what memories of his are just recollection from his source, and which ones happened beyond the book. He “remembers” things that happened outside of the books (which reflect our trauma), and those are his memories — not the source.

I’m traveling right now and have spotty wifi, so I’ll leave it at that — but i hope more folks chime in with advice!

I'm very attached to source right now because it's what happens when I'm triggered or stressed. It is not healthy for me, but I cannot help it. That's why I want help on how to detach from it

And every post talking about it is "source attachment is evil and anti recovery, you need to disregard your source and see all your memories as fake if you want to Heal ♥️ also do it for my convenience. Please feel ashamed for being attached to source (because it's a terrible choice you made)! xx"
