It didn't hurt your feelings, in so much as you'd never let yourself have feelings about this situation at all.

Your husband doesn't seem to share the sentiment.

"You thought I would cheat on you?" he's angrier than you've ever seen him. In fact, this might be the first time he's ever been angry at all, so easy going and carefree in your presence, you'd assumed that was his neutral state.

He closes in on you with a predators gaze, and for the first time since you signed the documents, you consider that you may have misunderstood this situation entirely.

"Let's get your bags packed," he says with a caustic smile. "Time for a renewal of our vows. And this time I'd like you to really think about what til death means."

can you even imagine what a fucking horror show the early game is from spite's perspective, though. not only is this funky forcibly severed little slip of the fade having to deal with the reverse cosmic horror of physical reality as perceived by a spirit and being trapped in it against its will -- existentially confused and disoriented and hurting and nothing makes any kind of sense, at the mercy of human cruelty at its most deliberately sadistic. and then the one source of comfort and compassion and some kind of safety and clarity that lucanis surely must have been to him in the ossuary despite everything just goes and shuts himself in his room inside with a seemingly passive aggressive number of locks between them and no explanation and won't speak to him and they're STILL in the fucking ossuary. rook came and found them and they could be free now (rook is here!) and still lucanis keeps them in the ossuary even though he PROMISED he promised they'd get out of there together!!! what the fuck DO you think at that point? like did he trick me that whole time??? he wasn't like zara before, so why is he doing this to me now? why isn't he saying anything? 'he won't move. I can't reach him'. at least in the ossuary they had a deal, a goal, a hope -- each other. at least he wasn't entirely alone, before.

this poor poor poor little spite spirit really was ferried into the real world like 'hey welcome to reality! as your first introduction to it you're first getting horrifically tortured and then getting to vicariously experience one of THE most distressing and harrowing psychological conditions the human brain can cook up for itself (a fully fledged and deeply entrenched freeze response flaring up with catastrophic severity due to an unbroken ongoing and unlikely to let up any time soon chain of Unfortunately... Recent Events). I think spite is being extremely reasonable and patient about the whole thing, when you put it into perspective. I'm not saying let him eat the self-lighting candles or anything, but he's got some extremely valid points along the way lol. spite is not only child-like, the metaphor work going on is a lot more pleasingly flexible and complex than that, but he is also helplessly existentially dependent on lucanis in a way that, if anything, is a heightened version of the way a child (or child part) has to depend on a parent to navigate the world and survive.

tl;dr: we truly don't give enough sympathy to spite for having to live in the head of lucanis dellamorte. a place even lucanis dellamorte would prefer not to be. to be fair to him I think lucanis would be the first person to agree with this lol

magic reveal where arthur doesn't say a word and starts walking away and then merlin is at his heel calling for him, pleading with him to talk, to let him explain everything, begging for him to turn around and look at him, his voice breaking with grief. arthur has never been able to deny merlin anything and turns but he is still hurt and angry and merlin can see it in his eyes before he even opens his mouth to spew accusations. merlin stands, demure, as he shakes his head yet he doesn't say anything - fallen silent under arthur's rage. arthur walks away and around a corner, merlin doesn't follow. merlin breaks down into heartbroken tears and sobs and arthur is just around the corner, leaning on the wall for support, and listening to merlin fall apart.

There's gotta be some fucked up moments post canon Binghe experienced that made him pause and go "how did he know that" about SQQ. Like,,, not to keep bringing it up but do yall ever think about how fucked up it would be for someone to know your trauma so intrinsically that they could avoid triggering you without you saying a word about it? How your lover knows without you saying that you can't eat certain foods because that's what ever you could scrounge up in the Abyss tasted like? That you can't talk about certain creatures because you know how they act when they're trying to kill you?? How you fear certain things that are so normal to do that even a small child can do it, yet he never does it once in your presence?? Do you think about it?? He knows you from the most basic interaction to the deepest dark thought, and yet you don't even know his real name?? I think about this CONSTANTLY. Binghe is living the most eldritch horror romcom plot there ever is post canon, good luck man

The Death of Nagi

"It doesn't matter how you live... but just don't die before me, you know?"

Parents were not meant to outlive their children. Nagi was never meant to outlive Reo -- he never wanted to in the first place. He only ever came to Blue Lock because Reo promised to "stay with him until the end," only ever played soccer because "it was the first time someone had ever showed interest in a guy like [him]."

Because of this, Nagi didn't fear [Death] the same way that Reo did.

Nagi had always lived half of a life. [Death] just meant returning to those listless days. But Reo...

Reo became hyperaware of his inadequacies from the moment Nagi left him in the second selection. He's been overwhelmed by his fear of his dream's death for hundreds of chapters. Reo thought he was the weak link, that his death would be the end of his dream with Nagi.

Meanwhile, Nagi lived with lazy confidence in both him and Reo. He didn't even comprehend the possibility of Reo's or his elimination.

Nagi had never acted on "pure survival instincts," because he'd never feared [Death]. By Ego's definition, then, everything he did in Blue Lock was out of Love.

Only when Ego had said it out loud did a small fear of [Death] sprout in Nagi for the first time. All he had known before was that he didn't want Reo to die (Nagi was driven by Love), but he hadn't considered that dying himself would also mean losing Reo.

He panics.

The tragedy is that Ego's spiel about dreams hits him just a bit too late. He's always been willing to die -- [Death] wouldn't affect his love. But now... now he's realizing he wants to live for his love. To stay by Reo's side, to support him and be supported. He doesn't want to leave. He begs, desperately, for his love to manifest as ego, so that he can stay, so that he can live.

Many have characterized Nagi as selfish. I don't think this is the case. He makes every decision based on what he thinks will benefit Reo. His survival in Blue Lock has been a consequence, not a priority. But here, we see Nagi finally turning selfish.

He's the one afraid of being without Reo.

He's the one afraid of being alone.

The same monster that enveloped Bachira envelops Nagi.

But while Bachira could separate his love for soccer from his love for Isagi...

Nagi... could not.

Nagi wants to play soccer to stay by Reo's side. He's always been satisfied, as long as he was together with Reo. He never manifested a dream beyond that. The undead don't dream.

He pursued a goal of beating Isagi, after seeing how upset Reo was from losing to him, and he won. He avenged them. All he wants now is to be by Reo for as long as he can.

But dreams like that don't survive in Blue Lock.

Nagi and Reo have always been Ego's foil -- the question of whether Love could overpower Ego.

And Love (Nagi) died.
