Corporate America

So I am at work this morning, and I have become increasingly sad with each passing day. I work hard, I don't call out and I hardly take any days off. I do my job and what is expected of me, and so much more. I have given this specific company my youngest and best adult years. Aside from the fact that I am over worked, and under appreciated, this is not what I want to do with the rest of my life! And it's putting me in an extremely dark place.

It was never a dream of mine to be so dedicated and loyal to a company that they are able to hang my livelihood over my head, and in turn treat me like a child. Being surrounded by brainwashed co-workers and micro managing supervisors is enough to depress anyone. But when upper management takes it upon themselves to withhold funds from you, that's a different ballgame. That is that absolute last straw.

I am not happy here, I am TIRED of clocking in for someone else, plus I am mentally and emotionally exhausted once my shift is over. How can I be the best mom I can be? Or the best daughter, sister, aunt, friend or girlfriend? I can't if at the end of the day I have nothing left to give, because I've given it all to my job.

I was completely at the end of my rope this morning. I thought about walking out, telling them I was done and in that moment I didn't care about the consequences. Too far? Maybe, considering that I have bills to pay, and apparently less money to do so now. So I turn to the computer, and one of the FEW social sites that haven't been blocked yet is this one. I dabbled in blogging a couple of years back, and I became super discouraged thinking that because there were so many bloggers that were way more talented than me, that it was a waste of time. Well, how can that be when this morning, the one and only thing that made me feel better was the thought of writing? My first and most beautiful true love.

I thought that at this age, I would be much further along than I am now. I thought I'd be rolling in money, I'd have a huge house, my dream car....the American dream I suppose. As I grew older and my life changed, I learned that everyone's path is their own, and should not be compared to anyone else's timeline of lessons or blessings. I have also learned, that the American dream is indeed a dream. The amount and price of the things you have is not a testament to how successful you have become. So Although there are many things that I would like, I just want to be able to look nice, travel, and enjoy my life. I haven't been in a position to do all three at the same time, ever in my life. But I would like to, so I declare that today is day one, and that "one day" is no longer an option. Writing my truth and sharing it is step one. Step two....not so sure yet. Maybe I'll do a YouTube video that relays this message as well. After that...I'll continue to write and share about my experiences, hoping that it helps someone. I'll dedicate my spare time to working on my book ideas, and actually turning them into books that can be published. Who knows where this thing may actually go.

People tell me that I am talented and that I should open up and share more. I am typically super guarded because I haven't known many healthy relationships of any kind. But here I am, attempting to find the path that I abandoned so long ago. I have no idea where any of this may lead me. I don't know what the steps look like nor the timeline of my path. I just know that I have to stick with what makes me happy. Hopefully someone will be touched by this, and will find encouragement to do what they love. Take it one day at a time, one step at a time. Do what your heart leads you to do, and trust in the process. Things may look up for you sooner, or later, but trust in the fact that as long as you put in the work you can do whatever the hell you want. You do not have to be confined to the restrictions of another company. You can have your own and make  the rules.    

As for me, the first thing I'm going to do once this is posted is take a break, talk to God, and try to stay positive so that I am not completely depleted at the end of this work day. My job will be a little easier to handle today, because I know that I have taken the first step in a process that is sure to be amazing. Take your first step today. It can be a huge step, or a baby step. But please, do not allow your talents to sit while you make someone else rich. It's not fair, and you deserve so much more! We all do!
