            “I feel I should inform you -- before you get any clever ideas, Mr. Kovacs, your sleeve is not only heavily sedated, but extremely well secured and under heavy guard .... whatever ... tricks you employed at the Wei clinic will be of limited use to you here and now.  So do please, conserve your energy, sweetling -- you’ll need it,” Laurel stated, her tone placid, almost even bordering on pleasant as she watched him stir to ‘consciousness’ in virtuality, her dark, almost scarlet tinted gaze avidly curious as she let her gaze roam freely, appreciatively.   “Well, you certainly don’t disappoint, do you,” she murmured, a pleased, low smirk coiling up the edges of her lips, somehow reminiscent of a lioness circling its prey, despite the fact she had yet to move.

             “You know, for someone who claims to dislike the company of... my kind so very much .... we do seem to be seeing an awful lot of each other lately, Takeshi,” Miriam murmured softly, her fingertips trailing lightly, perhaps even a little longingly over the lapels of Kovacs’ trench coat, cool blue gaze tilting up to catch his, a smile playing over her lips as she watched him.   “Is there anything I can get for you?  A drink?”   A tilt of her head back slightly, her smile widening languidly.  “Breakfast?”

             “I was not aware I possessed a tone,” Poe replied, his tone in fact bordering on indignant even more than it had a moment before.   “Forgive me if I felt compelled to voice a moment of displeasure but as you have surely observed, Officer Ortega has, in fact, yet to return an item that she ... “ A quiet hmmmm of discontent.  “Borrowed from the lobby and I simply assumed that it would not be over much of an inconvenience for you to inquire as to its whereabouts when you see her next.  If I was mistaken, then by all means --”

            “What ... did you not enjoy my husband’s decadent display of wealth and ... ego tonight?”  Miriam couldn’t help the pointed question, even if there was no need for it other than belligerence and vague disdain, her own discontent clinging to her skin like a bad odor she couldn’t seem to shake, fingers drifting away from Finnick’s jaw, catching the edge of her earrings, one and then the other, pulling them free and letting them collect in her palm, fingertips working along her necklace to find the clasp, eager to be rid of all vestiges of the night’s ‘entertainment’ with as much speed as grace allowed.   “Issac and his petulance, Laurens and his obsessions --  I wonder if any of them even know what it is to actually enjoy something simply for the sake of ... genuine pleasure.”

             “If you wanted to come back to town with me, for a supply run, or -- just to get away from things for a while, I’m sure it could be arranged,” Saori offered gently, hating to break into the young woman’s thoughts, but she couldn’t help but think that maybe being dragged into the vortex of solitude and all the inner demons that came with it might be the last thing that Katniss needed right now.  “Or -- if you’d rather, we could go check the lines and traps?”  Some fresh air and getting away from the dull roar of the din of Stronghold seemed in order, however the woman preferred.

                           A shadow of a smile upturned the edges of Trepp’s mouth, slightly, as her cool, seemingly impassive gaze slid up to find his, a light jut of her chin as she lets some hint of curiosity blossom in her features, allowing herself to lean closer to him, with as little regard to personal space as ever.  “I could make a few ... educated guesses,” the mercenary suggested, a crease dimpling her cheek for the briefest of a moment.   “But I’d rather you just tell me.”

                         “I’m too tired to do the paperwork.”

              It was times like this that two instincts collided, competed with each other; the part of him that had been on the job as long as he had wanted to abide by the rules and regulations, wanted to remind her of the importance of all of the parts of the job; the other part of him, the part of him that saw her as the daughter he never had wanted to empathize and ... in this instance at least, it was the latter that won out.  “It’s all right,” he said, with a loose shrug, a hand reaching out to collect the sheaf of paperwork from her.  “I’ve got another hour to kill, I’ll take care of it --”  A pause and a pointed glance.  “If you promise me you’re going to go home and actually rest.”

         @magicandsciencemuses - Finnick Odair gets a starter from Petra Nikonova / aka Petenka Nikonorov (birth name / meth heritage).

             Blending might not be as hard as she’d expected -- some things, it seemed, one never forgot, and the designed beauty and grace of the sleeve she was riding certainly helped, but the place itself seemed to scream at her, everywhere she looked, reminders that she didn’t belong, that this wasn’t her world anymore .... if it ever had been.  Opulence, dripping from them all in equal measure of their disdain for their existence, as if they were above it and above everything else just by -- being --  it made her skin crawl, if she was being honest.  At least when she met these people in her world, they showed their true colors ... the rot and the sickness beneath the surface, rather than the glitz and the glamour and the spit polish shine to every word, every motion calculated and every move three steps ahead of someone else’s.   She felt like she was going to be sick and that wasn’t just from the lack of built in tolerance to the whiskey she’d been drowning herself in with increasing frequency as the night carried on.   She’d elected to stay far clear of the null gravity fight -- if Rei wanted to punish her for it later, she’d deal with it then, but that was literally the last thing she wanted to see now.   “Another, please,” she declared to the bartender; grateful that she was almost alone, at least for the moment, shoving her glass across the counter of the high bar.

            “You’re.... one of Them, aren’t you?”  Wide, eternally tired blue eyes shifted up from the computer console that displayed the ... nearly innumerable options for building a sleeve from scratch -- something she had never dreamed she’d have the opportunity to do, even if it was for temporary use and only when Reileen wanted.   “What ...  do you think would fit in?”  Reileen had assured her that the woman’s confidence was guaranteed, which, if Rei said, she had to believe it.  “With ... a Methuselah, I mean,” she clarified, in case it wasn’t already clear.  It was one thing to cater to a Meth’s ... less illustrious desires.  It was something else altogether to try and pass for one of them.

         “Yes -- I am here to discuss business but -- not only such trite matters, darling,” Miriam cast a languid smile in the redhead’s direction, a hand pressed lightly against Claire’s forearm briefly before her fingers extend to snag the glass of champagne offered by one of the busy bees.  Honestly, she could not bring herself to understand why one of the elite themselves would deign to oversee such mundane matters as overseeing simple clone manufacturing... but she supposed every one was entitled to their hobbies.  “Laurens and I are hosting quite the event in just a few night’s time, all of everyone who is anyone will be in attendance, please do promise me that you will come.”   So long as she promised to leave the wretched younger sibling at home...

        “I probably shouldn’t mention it,” Ava remarked, her words half muffled around the scanner clenched in one corner of her mouth, at least briefly, before she pulled it free to run the device along his forearm, eyes scanning the readouts that scrolled across her corneal output.  “Seeing as how I enjoy both your company, and your credits,” a smile tucked upwards, a glance up to meet his gaze briefly.  “But there are places downtown equipped with the top of the line equipment made specifically to handle synthetic repairs,” she felt compelled to advise him, again.  “I can repair the damage to the nervous system, and patch you up and ... the nanites in your system will repair the damage within a few days time, but it could be done before you walk out the door at one of the higher end shops.”

              “I’m sorry Detective -- I don’t think that there’s anything I can tell you that would be of any help,” Lizzie said, her hands curling in against her elbows as she fought back another shiver, doing her best to keep her focus somewhere on the officer’s shoulder as it offered a far more pleasant view than the handful of lifeless sleeves scattered around the bar’s main area; those that had been past any hopes of saving by the time that the police and the emergency medical services had arrived on scene.  “Everything happened... fast, and ... I was with a -- “  A slight hesitation, the faintest hint of a flush of color over her slightly grey-tinted cheeks.   “A customer, I didn’t even know anything was happening until... the screaming started. I think ...  Jerry has security cameras in the main traffic areas, in case of pick pockets or ... ”  This.

            The fact that he’d gotten dragged into this mess at all had done little for his mood.  Being insulted by the equivalent of a, probably, admittedly smarter than a toaster but still nonetheless still an artificial intelligence housed in a synthetic body with its’ own walking papers was definitely not helping.  The fact that it was still registered, technically, for legality purposes, as the intellectual property of one of the more PR-polished tech genius playboy Meths was just icing on his problematic cake.  “There is no need for us to resort to ... unpleasantness, Mr. --  “  A glance to the corneal readout.  “Vision.”  A barely refrained grimace.  “I can assure you that my officers meant no insult and ... as soon as your personal belongings have been retrieved from holding, you will be free to go.”
