Let's Talk About Pacing Our Fight Scenes.
For Fast-Paced Parts:
Short words with single syllables. Immediately > at once/ endeavour > try/ indicate > point at/ investigate > check out.
Short sentences, the shorter the better.
Partial sentences to blaze through multiple senses and actions within a few lines.
Short paragraphs
Lots of verbs.
Few adjectives and adverbs.
Cut down on -ing form of verbs, as it can make words longer
Use simple past tense
Avoid conjunctions and link words.
Avoid internal thought - your characters are irrational, ruthless and in the flow of pure action.
For Slow-Paced Parts:
Use medium/long sentences
the paragraphs are longer: three lines minimum
Include longer words with more syllables
Use adjectives and maybe a couple of adverbs.
Insert the thoughts of the PoV character.

How do you write age gaps in relationships?
Hi! Age gaps can be super interesting to write, but also a bit tricky. I think the biggest thing is making sure the dynamic feels respectful and balanced, even if the characters are in different life stages. like, if one of them has way more power (socially, financially, emotionally), that can make the relationship feel off, unless you’re exploring that imbalance on purpose.
also think about how the age gap actually affects them. like, do they come from different generations and have totally different references or priorities? maybe one is super future-focused while the other’s more nostalgic or set in their ways. that kind of contrast can be fun to play with, like not in a dramatic way, but more in little things, like the older character not knowing a meme or the younger one being super idealistic about something the other’s already burned out on.
as an example: imagine a relationship between a 26-year-old who’s starting over in a new city and a 39-year-old who’s lived there forever. There’s room for both comfort and friction… Maybe the older one might feel protective but also a bit jaded, while the younger one might admire that stability but secretly wonder if they’ll ever get there themselves. they can challenge each other in quiet ways, without it turning into a power struggle.
I think the key is writing them as equals, not in life experience maybe, but in how they show up for each other emotionally. and just… steer away from anything that feels like one person’s doing all the growing while the other stays still.
Growth should go both ways.

Character Quiz! :D
Here are some questions to ask your character in order to understand them just a little bit more!
What is the worst quality you could ever imagine in someone?
2. If you had to define you childhood with one item, what would it be?
3. What do you wish people knew about you?
4. What traits do you admire?
5. What's the worst decision you have ever made? Was there a reason?
6. What's your biggest fear and have you ever faced it? Do you know why you are so scared?
7. What makes you feel safe? Why?
8. What's your favorite memory and why? It could be a childhood memory or something that happened a couple days ago!
9. Do you think about the future and the past? Why?
10. Who's life do you envy the most and why?
11. What's something you learned that nobody else has learned? It could be a life lesson or maybe a secret?
12. How do you show appreciation? Why?
13. Who is the person you are closest to? Why?
14. What is your main piece of advice?

One thing writing for so long has taught me is that, when you're young, all you want to do is write the most original story. And it's because you believe original = good. You think it's the point. But storytelling is about communication -- all art is -- and the older you get and the more you write, the more you want to be in communion with those who inspired you and those you could one day inspire. All art is an echo of what came before.
If I write something original or fresh, that's great! But I know now that the most important thing is to do the best I can and to communicate. That's what matters.

My childhood imaginary friend just sent me a voice note—twenty years after I buried him.
When I was seven, I had an imaginary friend named "Benny." He wasn’t like other kids' imaginary friends—he was always cold to touch, hated mirrors, and told me secrets about people he shouldn’t have known.
My parents thought it was cute… until I woke up one night with mirror shards under my pillow and Benny whispering, “We’re almost there.”
After a terrifying week, my grandma (old-school Catholic) made me "bury" him. Literally. We held a mock funeral in the backyard with salt, prayers, and a tiny wooden box I was told never to dig up.
That was twenty years ago.
Two nights back, I got a WhatsApp voice note from an unknown number.
It was Benny’s voice. Same raspy whisper. “Mirror, mirror, under bed… bring me back or you’ll be dead.”
I haven’t slept since.
I think something's crawling under my bed. And my bathroom mirror… it’s fogged up, but I haven't used it in days.
What do I do?

Writing What If's
What if people hate it? What if they don't get it? What if that reject it? What if they think it's too dark? What if I went too far?
but
What if they love it? What if it saved their life? What if someone felt seen? What if they understand it so deeply you are one? What if they want to know more? What if your words hit someone so hard they have a life altering realization? What if they can see the other perspective now? What if you changed their view on life? What if they're life is worth living?
and
What if you're free? What if your words are on paper and not in your mind? What if you create such a well articulated piece of art? What if you're beyond proud of yourself? What if it pushes you to be a better person? What if it shows your growth? What if you get a scholarship? What if you win? What if you get published?

There's no colour I know better, than the colour of your eyes, I've looked through them enough, to see through your lies, all we had was a moment, it meant more than a lifetime, they judge us, didn't matter until, it mattered to you, so we sang sweet lies, We'll tell our soulmates, one day in the future, of our broken pasts, and we'll never leave out, our love full of lies, We could have happened, but we let us go, and its okay, love is letting go

Rage That Burns Like a Forest Fire
It starts small. A flicker. A spark. A clenched fist, a sharp inhale, a word bitten off before it can escape. But it spreads fast, turning everything inside him into kindling. His skin is too tight, his pulse too loud, and the world is suddenly the wrong shade of red.
He tastes metal in his mouth, maybe from biting his cheek too hard, maybe from the words he’s swallowing back before they can explode. His hands shake, not from fear, but from too much energy with nowhere to go. He wants to slam a door, throw a punch, break something just to hear it shatter.
Rage doesn’t whisper. It roars. And if he’s not careful, it will consume everything.

Writing tip: literally don't bother with a story at first. Just write notes on a single Word Doc. Just any scene you want, write out how you want it to go.
Example:
"A is meant to be trying to sneak into Place, and B catches them and threatens them at knife point. This slowly devolves into smut somehow. Figure that part out later when it comes to you."
That's it. That's what you write. And slowly, all your notes will turn into a story that you just have to go change a few words for and add transition sentences here and there. And then reread it and never post it until a friend reads it and forces you to post it.

My son won’t stop talking to the man in the floorboards. I never told him we buried someone there.
We moved into my late grandmother’s farmhouse two months ago. My 4-year-old, Milo, has always had a vivid imagination, so when he told me he had a “floorboard friend” in his room, I didn’t think much of it.
That changed last night.
He came into my room whispering, “Mr. Thom wants to come up now. He says you promised.”
I froze.
I’d never said that name out loud. Thom was my mother’s… secret. One I helped bury under the floorboards when I was fifteen.
I told Milo never to talk to him again. He cried and said, “But he’s lonely. He misses Grandma. He said he hears her voice under the dirt.”
I checked the floorboards this morning. There’s fresh scratches—from the inside.
I think he’s trying to come back.
