Writers challenge.
If your Wip(s) were adapted into a video game, what type of video game would it be ?You can make it simple or completely detailed.
I'll start.
My novel ,Tara, could be adapted into an indie game like Life is Strange, mystery and choices, and maybe Adeventure, which is narrative heavy.
Longer version: It would be an independent game, narrative heavy with themes of physiological horror with choices and boss fights and I know Stranger Things isn't a videogame or think of Silent Hill Other World for our characters, fully scripted and scary monsters. It would be scripted, heavily so almost like a mini movie's.Sci fi would also be a theme and some areas even a bit of survival horror.
(I am very into Horror Games but even I have to do research on its genres.(
Since one of my MCs mental health depletes with a bar over his head and you have to keep him from spiraling with hobbies, people and books. We would see a lot of cutscenes, long cinematics and running. And even a dual Pov, where we meet other characters apart from the main two. I weirdly imagine it to be 3rd person where you see our characters interact with others and their thoughts.
There would be mechanics were you're timed and have to fight beasts and even people who aren't human or even puzzles for finding stiff. Like hide, run , inspect.
And romance, cause why not.
Enjoy.

Finding the Write Time - "Did you think I would be okay with this?"
I'm taking part in @did-i-do-this-write's monthly, writing challenge, Finding the Write Time!
This month, the prompt was "Did you think I would be okay with this?", and I used it to write about what happened just before this story I wrote for February's prompt!
I love this challenge, and I'm especially glad that I got to flesh out something that I wrote earlier this year!
(Plus, there's a bonus little thing at the end!)
@meteorify if you're interested :)
----
It's been six months, three weeks, and two days since my life ended. I might still be alive, but the light of my life, the person that kept me going through everything died that night, and my soul died with her.
Even now, as I sit slumped on the floor, staring at a photo of the five of us from over a year ago, all so young and full of life, I wonder how there's any way that I can move on. The hole in my chest just feels like it's growing larger and larger as I stare at her face, eyes tracing the features that I knew so well for the millionth time, her smile frozen in time and so far from the pain that I saw in her eyes on that night.
In one of the Lair's other rooms, I can hear Kai and Ash. They're laughing softly to each other as the TV chatters in the background, and I can't imagne how they can stand to laugh, to even smile, in a world where she isn't here anymore. What's the point of smiling in a world with no joy?
As I bite back the tears that threaten to drown me, I'm shocked out of my thoughts by the harsh electronic sound of the phone ringing.
I pull myself up from the floor with weak arms, and stumble to the desk where the radio lay abandoned, and flick my finger in its direction. The accept call button weakly pushes down and I use all my energy to will the radio closer to me. It slowly slides over the table, and no sooner is it next to my ear than the overly-cheerful voice of Jane Doe spills out.
"Hello there! Who am I speaking with?" She sounds far too happy considering there's nothing in this world to be happy about. "It's Skywalker, Jane. What do you want?" I put on my best Leader voice. "Ah, Agent Skywalker! Just the man I wanted to talk to!"
That doesn't sound good.
"What did you want?" "I need to ask you about how the hunt is going for a new member of the Band! You know, the hunt that you assured me would be over in a week or two... three months ago."
I choke back the groan building in my throat and opt instead to say nothing.
"Ah." She sounds significantly colder. "Your silence speaks volumes. Do you have at least one candidate?"
More silence. She doesn't want to hear what I have to say, so I might as well not tell her.
"Not even one? I must say, Skywalker, this is a disappointment." "What do you want me to say?" I burst. "There's no one on this planet that could replace her, how can you expect me to try? Why would I want to? She's gone, and there's no way to bring her back, so sorry if I'm not exactly in the mood to try and replace her!"
Now it's Jane's turn to fall silent. I hear her inhale deeply two or three times before her voice finally returns.
"Well. I didn't want to have to do this, Skywalker, I really didn't, but you're not leaving me much choice here."
My stomach drops. "What- what don't you want to have to do?" "If you and the Band do not manage to find a new member in the next - oh, I don't know - two weeks, then the faculty and I will have to step in and we will assign you a new member based on new recruits and how long they have been waiting to be assigned a taskforce. We wanted to give you as much freedom to mourn as we could, but enough is enough."
My breath catches in my throat, and my thoughts speed up to a thousand times their normal speed.
A new member- assigned by Jane?!
"But we- we agreed! The Band could choose someone that worked well with us, that we all got on with, but you- you planned to just pick someone else!? Did you think that I would be okay with this- did you think that we would be okay with this? This isn't the choice that you said you'd give us!"
She sighs. "I wanted to give you that choice, I really did. But you just took too long. Now you have a fortnight until we make the choice for you - up to that point, it's still up to you. I suggest that you make the most of this time."
I open my mouth to protest, to say something, anything that could make her reconsider, but she hangs up before the words come out.
I barely manage to make it to the couch before my knees give way. I collapse next to the discarded photo, and I pick it back up.
Carmen's face stares out from the center of the photo, one eye on the camera and one on me as she clasps my hand in hers; I can almost feel it now, the warmth of her skin against mine, just like all the times that we shared when she... when she was still her.
My whole world died that night, and now Jane wants me to find someone else, someone with all her spirit and fire, that understands us the way that she did, in two weeks like it's nothing? It's impossible. But if we don't...
I can't think about the alternative. I don't know what to think about. What the hell are we going to do?
-----
And as an added bonus, this is the photo that Riley was looking at! I drew it a while ago, and I thought that it would be cool to incorporate sme of my art into my writing :D

The Coppe's Webbe - Scareuary 2025
A staple in the Scareuary horror writing challenge, the Coppe's Webbe has you randomly generate a word from this list (simply refresh the page to generate) and create a spooky web of stories, snippets, or even poems related to the word you've generated.
COPPE'S WEBBE SCHEDULE
February 1: Generate We'll be generating our words and sharing them! You can also share any preliminary ideas that you have for creepy stories/snippets/etc to write based on those words.
February 2-7: Spin the Web! Having trouble with your word and want a brainstorming buddy? Send your word in as an ask and I'll respond with 5 different spooky ideas to get you started.
February 7: Story Share For those who are going to try and complete a story, drabble, poem, or any other kind of horror fiction piece by the end of this first week, the 7th is the day we'll share them! If you haven't written a full story but have a synopsis, you can share that, too.
This month, I want to give adequate time to feature each theme/event. That's why I've set date ranges. However, that does not mean that you have to do them at the time I will be featuring them.
In other words, even though I've scheduled some fun stuff for Coppe's Webbe from FEBRUARY 1st -> FEBRUARY 7th, you can take the whole month to do the challenge or decide to do it later on in the month.
Not quite sure how to proceed?
Check out this example from last year.
Send in an ask!
I will try to compile all Qs into a FAQ post for convenience for next year's Scareuary.
Want to be tagged on posts? Let me know!
I'll set up a tag list so you'll never miss any posts ^^ And remember! Use the #scareuary or #scareuary2025 tag so everyone can find your stuff!

40k in 42 days with @the-wip-project!!
I'm working on something new for this, and I'm so excited to be doing this! I don't really write on the weekend, so I started today, on day two of the challenge!
Day 2 of 42.
today: 2531
total: 2531
progress: 6%
I'm having a blast with this story so far! The words have come really easy, and for the first time in a while I find myself daydreaming about the story when I'm driving or in the shower. It's nice to get back into that!

ALMOST TIME FOR THE 12 DAYS OF WHUMPMAS!
What is it? It's a mini-challenge running from December 25th to January 5th (aka the 12 days of Christmas). So if you need something to keep you occupied during break/vacation or need a distraction from family chaos, look no further!
For each day, there are three prompts -- two words/phrases and one dialogue prompt. You can pick and choose or use all three. Create whatever you want! Original, fandom, whatever! The important thing is that you get your brain working and create something.
You can use the tag #12DaysofWhumpmas to share your stuff, it doesn't matter if you write something after the challenge is over.

Fuck NaNoWriMo
It's always been a shit way to write a book. Slamming through fifty thousand words in a month leads to burnout and a garbage draft you'll spend more time unfucking than if you'd actually just paced yourself.
I'm proposing Novel Outline November
Start with your idea on November 1st.
Write something for your novel every day. The only unacceptable amount is 0.
Attempt to complete the plot in 50K words. Stick with that as a limiting factor so you focus on what's most important to your story.
When it's done it's done! Everyone is a winner!
You will
Develop good writing habits
Challenge yourself to write long form
Create a base that can be expanded into commercial fiction (70-100K) or genre fiction (100-110K)
Happy writing!

How many drafts should you go through before deciding your novel is ready?
There's no specific (official) number, but to create a foundation that ensures you don't burn out quickly, overwork yourself, and get tired of your work, I'll say four. It's the same number I use for my students since most of them have other engagements outside writing that take up a copious amount of their time.
1. Initial or Zero Draft:
This draft is also called the 'just write' draft. Focus on putting that idea down. As the creative juices flow, let it all out. Don't worry about perfection or coherence; the goal is to capture your raw ideas and get the story out of your head and onto the page.
2. Second Draft:
This is the plot draft. Read through what you have written to see if every detail you added was meant to be. Here, you focus on the structure of your story. Ensure that the plot makes sense, the pacing is right, and there are no major plot holes. This is where you might add, remove, or rearrange scenes to improve the overall flow of the narrative.
3. Third Draft:
Character development draft. In this stage, you look deeper into your characters. Make sure their motivations, backgrounds, and arcs are well-defined and consistent. Flesh out their personalities and relationships, ensuring they are compelling and believable. This is also a good time to refine dialogue and make sure it sounds natural and true to each character. That's for this drafting stage.
4. Fourth Draft:
Grammar and punctuation draft. This is the polishing stage. Focus on correcting grammatical errors, punctuation, and spelling mistakes. Pay attention to sentence structure, word choice, and overall readability. This draft is about making your manuscript as clean and professional as possible.
Keep in mind that the goal is to define what completion means for each draft. Once you reach the goal, take a break and return to it for the next drafting stage.
Some writers pay people to carry out some of the drafting stages for them, so if you fall into that category, you might have fewer drafting stages to handle yourself!
Reblog to save for later 😉
Thank you all for the support 💜!

Finding the Write Time - "We have to try"
I'm taking part in @did-i-do-this-write's monthly challenge, Finding the Write Time!
This month, the prompt was "We have to try", and even though I'm submitting this at the last minute, I still managed to have some fun with writing some backstory for Phoenix and the Band taking part in the Karaoke Kontest!
I let this idea brew for a while, but I managed to plan and write it in about 45 minutes, so I'm happy!
I'm starting to like it here at the A.R.A. - I've managed to work my way into the others' lives, ad they've made their way into mine.
As I think about this, lying on the couch with a sci-fi book, I can hear Niamh training, Riley on a call with a senior agent, and Ash and Kai laughing at some episode or another of what I assume to be Doctor Who. The realization that I understand these people and know as much as I can about all of them isn't an unpleasant one, and I feel a small smile creep its way across my face as the thought develops.
Of course it's this moment that someone chooses to knock on the door.
"Phoenix, could you get that?" Riley's voice echoes from the back room, and I shout a confirmation as I pull myself up.
Stumbling towards the front door of the "Lair" as the blood returns to my legs, I reach for the handle and just manage to wrench it open in time to see a flash of orange hair disappear round the far corner at the end of the hall.
"Hey! Was that- oh they're gone." I give up on shouting after whoever it was just as quickly as the words leave my mouth.
I'm about to shut the door when a small spark of neon yellow catches my eye. Below me is a small flyer, with bright colours and a cartoon microphone almost leaping off the page.
"What the..." I mutter as I bend down to pick it up. It's nice quality paper, and the colours are even more striking up close.
Above the microphone are emblazoned the words TEAM BUILDING EXERCISE along with a date, time and location - 12/06/25 17:00, Grand Hall.
November 12 - it's in a week. The Grand Hall, though... for as long as I've been here, which I'll admit isn't that long, I've never heard of anywhere like that. It might be offsite, but that seems like a lot of effort for something that doesn't seem compulsory.
"Riley!" I call out as I shut the door, hoping that he's done with whoever he's talking to. "Yeah?" He doesn't seem too annoyed at me shouting for him, so hopefully that means he's done. "Do you know what this means?"
I run into the back room and show him the flyer.
His eyes immediately narrow.
"Where did you get that?" "Uh- I think someone left it outside? It was just lying on the floor outside the door. What is it?" "It- well."
He takes a deep breath, and moves over to one of the chairs in the corner, collapsing on it with a slow exhale.
"Okay, well. So, for the last few years, there's been a monthly event for all the taskforces, organised by my friend Jae - you remember them?"
I nod.
"Right, them. The faculty told them that we - the taskforces, that is - had to all bond somehow, and so they came up with the monthly team building project. We used to participate a lot, but now..." "Oh. Right."
I don't need him to tell me what happened to stop them from taking part
"But what is it?" "It's a-" He looks up at the cieling with a small laugh. "It's a karaoke competition." "Sorry, what?" "You heard me." "And the Band... took part in this? Willingly?"
His eyes flick away from me for a second.
"Not all of us were as- enthusiastic," he starts, clearly choosing his words carefully, "but she made up for all of us." "Oh."
Somehow, it always links back to her. Carmen worked her way into every single part of their lives, and now she's inescapable. Everywhere I look, traces of her memory remain.
"Wait- if Jae's organising this, don't they know that you're not doing it anymore?"
From my admittedly limited interactions with Jae, they seem to really understand Riley and what Carmen's death did to him.
"That's what I thought." Riley sighs and stares at the wall opposite him for a minute.
It doesn't look like I'm getting any more information out of him, so I wander out of the back room into the lab, where Ash and Kai are still watching Doctor Who, Kai lying on top of the couch with Ash sitting cross-legged on it in front of him.
"Hey guys?" I start. "Yeah?" Kai glances over and points his "screwdriver" - apparently a glorified TV remote - at the screen, pausing the episode as I walk over. "Do you guys have any idea why someone would leave this in front of the door?"
I hold up the "team building" flyer, and I see Kai's eyes widen for a second.
"Is that-" He looks from the flyer, to Ash, to me, back to the flyer. "Yeah. I asked Riley what it was, he told me it was some kind of karaoke thing?" "Shit..." Ash sighs.
"Someone left that outside?" Kai asks. "Yeah. I didn't see who it was." I shrug. "Huh..." He tilts his head to the side slightly, thinking about it.
"Do you have any idea who it might have been?" I ask, but he shakes his head. "Could be someone trying to fuck with Riley. Might not be an actual invitation." "Is there any chance it might actually be? A genuine invitation, you know." "It's unlikely..." He starts, but Ash perks up her head with a start and interrupts him.
"Wait-" "Yeah?" Kai jumps. "It might actually be an invitation - if not from Jae, then maybe from someone else? Ollie, maybe?" "Why would anyone want to invite us back? We were pretty clear when we said that we wouldn't be coming back."
Ash shrugs.
"Maybe they heard that we had a new member, thought we'd want to rejoin." "Why would we? It's not like Phoenix is going to jump at the chance to spend one night a month singing random songs with us."
"Can you not talk about me like I'm not here?" I interrupt. "Who says I don't want a part of this?"
I don't really know why I'm encouraging this - it doesn't sound anything like my kind of fun. There's just this thought, somewhere in the back of my mind that somehow... I could bring them back together, the way that Carmen seemed to when she was still around. Some optimistic corner of my mind seems to insist that I could be the one to fix this broken group - and maybe karaoke is the way to do it.
I cringe even as I think it, but the thought won't leave me.
"Do you- want to do the contest?" Kai sounds just as surprised as I feel. "Why not? It might be fun. Especially if you all used to do it, people might like to see you all back doing it, especially now there's a fifth person."
Ash nods. "It's not like we can use the four man band excuse anymore."
I don't know where the courage comes from, but I straighten up and finally decide to stand up for my idea.
"We have to try, right? Someone clearly wants us there, so we might as well take them up on it, don't we?"
Kai's wings bristle as he glances back and forth from me to Ash to the floor.
"I don't know..." he mutters softly, "Riley might not be as enthusiastic about it..."
Ash exhales heavily before pulling herself up and standing beside me.
"You know what?" She says finally. "If you're really serious about this, then we should go for it. Show Jae and Ollie that we're back in business, even if it was some kind of shitty prank." "Seriously?" I can barely believe that she's on my side. "Seriously." She smiles. "I'll handle Riley, don't you worry. You and Kai work on what we're going to sing next week."
Her face breaks into a grin and she lightly punches my shoulder.
"Carmen'd be proud of you, kid."
I try not to show how much that means to me, and I mask my joy with a small smile.
"Let's do this, then."

30 Days, 30 Lines
Day 02 - from Cheerful Oblivion (FC5 fic)
A lone tear cut through the blood on her cheek and she sat on her knees with one wet hand on the floor. God must have a sense of humor. John couldn’t have set the scene any better. “Little Miss Wrath has some explaining to do.” He said with equal parts amusement and chastisement, trying to conceal the other emotions brewing beneath the surface.

yet another list of "beautiful" words
to try to include in your next poem/story
Book-bosomed - coined by Sir Walter Scott; means "carrying a book at all times." If you love books, certainly you've been book-bosomed at times in your life.
Caliginous - misty, dark
Dithyramb - a usually short poem in an inspired wild irregular strain. This word comes from the Greek word dithyrambos which was the name for a wild and irregular poem honoring Dionysus, the god of wine, who was often lauded throughout the year during festivals at which poems of this style were read.
Embonpoint - plumpness of person; stoutness
Farinaceous - having a mealy texture or surface
Farouche - marked by shyness and lack of social graces
Florilegium - a volume of writings; an anthology. The word was borrowed into English from a New Latin word that comes from Latin florilegus meaning "culling flowers." Think of a florilegium as a bouquet of writings, specially selected and arranged for your enjoyment.
Goety - black magic or witchcraft in which the assistance of evil spirits is invoked
Lachrymist - one given to weeping
Lamia - a female demon; vampire
Osseous - bony
Phantasmagoria - a bizarre or fantastic combination, collection, or assemblage
Stygian - extremely dark, gloomy, or forbidding
Tenebrous - shut off from the light
Theurgy - the art or technique of compelling or persuading a god or beneficent or supernatural power to do or refrain from doing something
If any of these words make their way into your next poem/story, please tag me, or leave a link in the replies. I would love to read them!
