Dear Fellow Traveler
There are other vampires in the world, and the world itself is a big, big place. David takes a little trip.
-
Sooo......this is an odd one. Basically so far outside of Lost Boys canon it almost isn't anymore, but it's also a small look into some vampire worldbuilding Berd and I have done. David knows people outside of his pack, and they know him. (They certainly know Max, and that's not a good thing.)
Anyway, here you go. Enjoy?
-
It's not hard to find what you're looking for if you know what to look for.
David meanders down the streets of a late-night San Jose. The place hadn't changed too much since his last visit, a couple years ago. Marko and Paul hadn't been wrong - it was a city of many people, from all over. Most of California seemed like that.
San Jose was not Santa Carla, however. Few places were, David would give it that. Further inland, the air didn't hold salt and brine anymore, wasn't thick with humidity that gripped the scent of whatever organic life passed through it.
The blood here was of a different kind. Smeared on concrete thick with grit and dust. In the ash of smoke from things rolled into cigarettes that even Paul likely hadn't had the time to try all of.
David follows it. It makes no attempts to hide itself.
Humans couldn't smell it, after all.
It takes him past downtown - predictably. Hunting grounds for those with the charm, the grace to stalk the nightclub and bar, and for those without, plenty of pickings in the back alleys and unfortunates sleeping on park benches and bus routes. But one never mixed supper with sleep, and David veered off that path, following the one laid out. He glances up, to the side of a bricked up building. There were less businesses here, tucked away in second-story lofts and between condemned flats. He finds what he expects to see:
A tag, small enough to not draw the eye, in faded brown, sealed below disguising black paint. A calaveras, its grinning teeth showing points at the canines, and the moon in pretty, decorated swirls at its bone forehead.
He'd been following the trail for the last hour. The blood was getting fresher.
The streets are darker out here. Less cars, and those that do pass him are beaters at best. Spaces between buildings are trash heaps, massive junk piles. Sometimes, he thinks he sees something darting out of view when he looks up to the glassless windows of a building. Senses a shift in the air as he passes along a certain way, avoiding the scattered streetlights.
Finally, he comes to a stop.
A warehouse, utterly dilapidated, stretching along before a huge chunk of abandoned manufacturing factory property. Surrounded on all sides by the rusting, decaying waste of metal, the exoskeleton of a once-great beast twisted and scattered to and fro. The back end of it even caving in - but.
If one looked, one could see details in the dark. If one could see in the dark.
Certain places in the roof, patched over with welded bits of sheet metal. Open spaces in the sides, to same. Holes stoppered up. David himself stood before a door to an entryway that used to lead to offices inside, or at least a coatroom of sorts - but the door wasn't just barred with lock and key, no. The hinges had been welded shut to match the patched holes in the roof. To the side, little windows, and behind them nothing but a wall of cinderblocks. One couldn't force their way inside if they tried.
Etched into the glass of one of those windows, another little sugar skull design. Sharp teeth. Moon at its forehead.
"It hasn't been that long, Williams. Can't have forgotten where the front door is."
David smiles, and it's sharp.
"No, it hasn't, and no, I haven't. I was just waiting for a proper welcome, is all."
-
David doesn't know their real name.
Vampires who headed clan hubs rarely needed them, or kept them for long after they took the position.
The vampire who greeted him outside was shorter than David, thinner shoulders, smaller over all, but their face hard set. Copper skin warm even in the darkness, their crow black hair cut short up the back, held in a wolftail with a leather cord.
The leather wasn't animal.
Their clothing was a little more familiar style - not quite the wild fancies of the Boardwalks and the coast with its warm winds and wiles, but something that seemed to fade into the mechanical park above them. Faded denim jacket, bleached into curling, skeletal markings. Lines of fine beadwork amid the torn jeans and hole-riddled long sleeve shirt. Thick boots that had seen more wear and repairs than any sane person would think to use to keep them in working order.
Some of that leather wasn't animal either.
They had brought David down in a new way. A way David, in truth, didn't know. He'd been correct in saying that he'd known the literal doors to the building weren't the way inside, but apparently the real entrance had moved since last he'd come to San Jose. Just before the entrance to the warehouse wasteland, there was a small, unassuming grate laid into the foundations of what would have been a runnoff channel. It came out with only a small application of superhuman strength, and the pair had slipped down - guests first.
The crawl space of a concrete pipe had turned into a constructed tunnel, leading to a basement room where they came up through the floor. Into the clan grounds proper.
David had asked about that, as they climbed the stairs up to the main level, the floor of the half-collapsed warehouse - an aesthetic choice, or a necessity?
"Just young idiots, making noise," the Clan Vamp said.
"Bad enough to warrant a doorman?" David had asked with a raised eyebrow.
The Clan Vamp's smile is thin. "Enough to know you were here when you crossed city limits.
Well, shit.
"This place really has gone to the dogs," David tuts.
"Was it ever anywhere else?"
They exchange smiles - with teeth. Not full teeth, for David's words were not said with malice, and the reply not given in offense. But a flash of fangs to let the other know a boundary had been met. Eye to eye.
They finish climbing the steps from the basement level, and step out into the clan grounds.
In the center of the huge, open space, three fires in low bins flickered. Enough to cast long, dark shadows on the tall walls stretching high above. All around, curtains hung from rafters, some still in their original place, and others torn down and twisted about to form more private quarters. Strings of fairy lights wound through it all, here and there, in mismatched areas of pillows and mattresses, true nests. Further back, in the darker corners, hung bodies, close together or further apart. Those who preferred to roost rather than sleep flat.
Around the fires, similarly were a few groups of couches and chairs and lounges, scattered messes of more places to lay and sit.
And people were sitting. Voices filtered through the air now, shifting like the firelight. Low tones, among groups of twos and threes, occasionally someone taking off to roost in the rafters, or return to the privacy of a nest. Snatches of music came and went, as someone somewhere in the mess tuned a radio.
David takes it all in.
"Is the party over?" He asks the Clan Vamp, nodding at the...somewhat quiet night. He remembers what it was like the last time he came.
They glance at him, a long look full of many emotions, before walking forward, David in tow.
"Sure. Since el caballo de caza decided to come around."
David braces himself.
"How many lost?" He asks quietly.
The Clan Vamp didn't answer right away. They come to a couch, low slung in the age of its use, and they sit themselves down, sinking into a corner of it with familiar ease. They gesture for David to take the opposite end, and he does. Above their heads, in the rafters, the radio is finally tuned, and something slow, melodic and heavy in the bass guitar plays.
The firelight dances across the Clan Vamp's features as they reach into their pockets, pulling out a paper carton. They take two hand-rolled cigarettes, and light one in the flame of the bin fire. They use that to light the other. They hand one to David, who takes it, and draws.
It's not fully tobacco, and David recognizes the taste of familiar drugs, and something unique he's not likely to find anywhere else.
It's a few long minutes of silence, between them. Enjoying the smoke, the amiable air.
Finally, with a flick of a finger to rid the tip of the fag of ash where it puddles on the concrete floor, the Clan Vamp speaks.
"Three packs gone, all come here from Reno. One because they both wanted the same hunting ground, wouldn't listen to negotiation. Other two because the fighting drew line of fire from Hunters."
Loud, young idiots indeed.
The Clan Vamp's unoccupied fingers drum a steady beat on their own thigh. They lick their teeth.
"Lost a childe."
David blinks.
He looks to them. Their dark eyes weren't on him, or the rest of the clan grounds. Rather, they'd focused on the fire, almost transfixed. Their mind elsewhere. Distant.
"Shit," he says flatly.
"No one you knew," they say with a shrug.
David takes another draw of smoke, holding it, letting it curl through him. Watching his own long exhale billow upwards into the dark ceiling. A pair of bodies flitted through the space, unnaturally fast, unnaturally quiet. The pair of vampires above giggling to themselves as they moved about. David's eyes came back down.
As if the knowing mattered.
David thinks about Paul, staying back with Marko, despite the two of them knowing he was going tonight. Wanting to come. Knowing they couldn't.
He thinks about them being here, if...something happened.
"You gonna stay long?" They ask him at length.
David's mouth twists into a grimace he can't quite pass off as a smile.
"Daddy would get worried," he answers.
The Clan Vamp barks a laugh, low and humorless. "Damn. Thought you might'a come out here to tell me some good news, Williams."
"Nope," David drawls, popping the 'p'. "Same as it always was. He's opened a fucking business."
"No kidding."
"Mm. Actual, legitimate thing. Videos and TVs and all that junk. Makes a killing, apparently."
Another laugh between them, only a little bit lighter.
"How long you think he's got?" The Clan Vamp asks, sucking down the last of their cigarette.
David huffs, leaning further back into the couch.
"For as long as the Devil's got patience."
"La bendición."
David grins. It's only a little dulled.

Indeed, we're happy to help! - Cyclonus
We believe all young bots deserve some good in their lives. We're dedicated to making it work for you- just be kind to the staff. - Tailgate
Do you know what Rust sticks are? Blitzwing says he wants them but I have no clue what they are. I asked him and he said their a treat, but rust doesn't sound like a treat to me but agian I'm human so I thought I'd ask you.
-😅
They're a sweet and spicy treat made with rust and some form of binding agent. They begin as a flat sheet before they are rolled up and resemble an organic spice called a cinnamon stick.
Traditional ones sometimes cause allergies to the binder, but @sugarcycloneofficial has a wonderful selection of treats for bots, humans, and terrans who may have dietary needs. This includes both traditional recipes and more modernized ones with fewer allergens. Heed the labels on anythin' yeh buy, 'cause not everything is edible by all species. And yes, they sell rust sticks.

less than 2 minutes into 47 ronin with keanu reeves and this might be the worst movie ive ever seen
it starts off talking about japan as if it were a fantasy setting calling it a series of "magical islands" full of monsters and witches, and protected by a special sort of knight called a "samurai"
honestly they should take this tack with more settings tbh
"A dark world, far from time and memory... a world called the Holy Roman Empire. A place of dark forests, witches, magic, and mysterious creatures... protected by men called Knights. Knights are trained from birth to be warriors, using special weapons called Swords, and clad in metal from head to toe. The honor of a knight is said to be just as unbreakable as their armor... as is their faith in the great spirit they worship, Jesus, a young man born of a woman but the son of a god... who was killed and yet returned from death..."
but like the plot of the movie make it an actually aggressively accurate historical drama about like local barons or something but it's still fucking stylized like a xenoculture exploitation film but the plot itself is just 100% straight european medieval politics or something
but like ALL told through the lens of "this is a WEIRD foreign magical country with WEIRD rituals"
dude doing his evening prayers and it's got like crazy telephone-gamed monastic choir music going on it
like a really dramatic scene of someone lifting up their shield and there's the virgin mary painted on the back
a priest comes in and he's dressed like a fucking wizard in 30 layers of robes and with a 10 foot tall staff of gold with the crucificixion on it
portray the sacrament as them like actually eating flesh and blood

@roseate-lagomorph per your question about Blue and Tweak's names:
It's slang (and not very nice slang at that) a 'tweaker' or someone 'tweaking out' is someone who has taken an upper like cocaine or meth and is acting very hyper, unfocused, unpredictable and jittery. Tweak tends to act this way quite a bit (the why and how will be explored later) so it's earned him his Warren Name.
Blue's own Warren Name (because that's not his legal name either) is pretty easy to see (hah) why he earned it.
A little on the subject of Warren Names, talking of which - what earns you one can vary, as well as who uses it. The concept itself is something only typically found in the Nosferatu, to this extent, any way. Gangrel have non-legal names quite a bit, especially if they prefer running wild, but even those tend to be closer to just nicknames. Malks can earn little titles from people, depending on what they do and how they do it. The Voreman Sisters, rather than just Therese and Jeanette.
A name you earn in a Warren feels different. It's a real, new name. It's like your new face, your new body. Other Nos give it to you. You don't get to decide what it will be, and knowing the Nos, it can range from something fairly mundane (like 'Charlie' is already a nickname for Charlotte, and Zephyr is a chosen name as well) to something aimed to sting, and dig at you for the rest of your nights. You can either hate it and shirk from its use knowing that still won't stop people from using it...or you can embrace it.
Let it become who you are, now.

Original Characters from The Pandora Principle by Carolyn Clowes
The novel has a lot of original character interwoven and expertly used alongside known Star Trek ones, and they deserve their own post.
Part 3: Starfleet
Lieutenant Robert "Bobby" Harper: A starfleet engineering lieutenant, described as sandy haired, freckled, mild manner, having a razor-sharp mind and being quite in demand for ship assignments, yet refusing them for the sake of his friend the Belandrid Obo, but he would very much like to work aboard Enterprise. At the start of the novel, he works in Spacedock shuttle bay #27. He grew up in LifeCity, the largest xenoculture in the Federation, with his mother, Dr. Katia Harper. Bobby is a faithful and kind person and even manages to befriend Saavik on Enterprise. He has a crush on Jessie Korbet.
Lieutenant Fred Di Muro: Bobby's friend and fellow engineer. He is much more career oriented than Bobby, insisting that he should not avoid opportunity for ship deployment just for Obo's sake, and is eager for a ship posting himself. He and Bobby are quite close, with Fred comforting him with Dr. McCoy when Harper learns of his mother's death and his involuntary part in it. He is deployed to the USS-Reliant. He is described as having dark skin.
Ensign Jessie Korbet: An ensign working in the delivery between Spacedocks and Headquarters, piloting the vehicles and ensuring the correct handling of the deliveries. She is described as a young woman of around Harper's age, perhaps a year or two older, of medium height, with a trim figure, soft brown curls, blue eyes and a winsome face. Harper has a very instant crush on her, and she appears to reciprocate. She is smart, duty-oriented and of a genial temper. She also believes in following her instinct and luck, such as having a good feeling regarding Bobby Harper.
Ensign Richards: A young, red-head ensign working at the front desk of the Headquarters building. He is quite obviously a fan of Kirk, and is admirative of the Admiral, informing him that he never expected to meet a living piece of history. He is reading Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson behind the desk, a book which he wants to give to his little brother and about which he and Kirk discuss, considering the Admiral's love of classic literature.
Lieutenant Adjudant Michaels: A junior communication officer with over enthusiastic and officious manners as he converse with Uhura on the comms and transmits orders from Headquarters. He works with Admiral Nogura
Dr. Janet Goldman: Scientist working in the Exo-Science lab on the 18th floor of Starfleet Headquarters. She is romantically involved with Rakir. She is the duty scientist along with Rakir when the mysterious Romulan box gets delivered by Ensign Korbet. She and her colleague/lover conducts InfraScans on the box and accidentally shatters it, starting the contamination in Starfleet Headquarters
Dr. El-Idorn Rakir: On-duty scientist in the Exo-Science lab along Dr. Goldman, he is described as shy, easily embarrassed, and culturally quaint, as his people always were, even to the extreme of celibacy until after a formal exchange of vows. His involvement with Dr. Goldman is, as such, very forward for him. He is described as haing a smooth and noble face. His homeworld, though not named, is described as icy, with blowing snows.
Commander Dorish: Harper and DiMuro's superior officer, he seems to be the authority on the Spacedocks, administering where the different ships and shipments are sent. Harper describes his as "good-old Dorish" implying a good relationship with his subordinates. He has a greying mustache and a portly figure.
Dr. Ayla Renn, lieutenant commander: Acting head of the Exo-Science lab while Dr. Syng was on leave. She has an MD, XMD, Ph.D., and ZBA, along with a service record of six years in Starfleet, three on Earth, and an impressive list of field work. She does not suffer fools gladly and is described by Kirk as being a straight arrow. She is highly intelligent, calm and focus when presented the crisis and is involved in it to research solution to the Romulan bio-weapon. Physically, Kirk describes her as having the face of a china doll, all peaches and cream, with emerald-green eyes and tumbling red hair.
Ensign Maxim Kinski: He is a Computer Expert with a rating of A-7.1., Being only four months out of the Academy, he is not an experienced officer, but with his rating being only eight tenths of a point below Spock, who held the highest in Starfleet, he is selected to work along Renn during the crisis. He is described as having pale skin, with black, electric and overlong hair, a bony frame and intense look. Being on his first serious crisis assignment, he is nervous and at time frantic.
McInnis: He is the Enterprise's transporter operator and part of the engineering crew.
Dr. Katia Harper: she is the mother of Robert Harper, a renowned museum director working in Life City. Being experiences in xeno-cultures, Bobby suggest to send one of the Romulan boxes to life-City, to be examined by her expertise. she catalogued, along with the help of her son on occasion, the artifacts of over a thousand cultures within and beyond the Federation to be placed in the museum of Life City.
2 unamed cadets in the appartement next to Saavik: They argue over one cadet having lost their coffee machine, puzzling Saavik greatly.

What The Fuck Is On The Shoulders Of Rootstock?
If you're anything like me, you have a love/hate relationship with the Human Domestication Guide writing project - which is not to say that I hate it. There's a lot to love!
I love the indulgent depictions of post-scarcity, I love xenobiology and xenoculture, I love the ten-foot plant-monster mommy-dommies, I love seeing capitalism and imperialism smashed into teeny-tiny pieces over and over. I can't get enough, and it's what sucked me in.
However, I also personally disagree with the way certain aspects are handled, and believe they impede HDG in general:
My kinks are not your kinks.
The Affini are too perfect.
Over-focusing on kink.
No sense of scale.
I've started this blog to set up an organised central worldbuilding reference for anyone else interested in taking the same tack with HDG. You should absolutely send in asks if any of this interests you.
Why don't I just go start my own post-scarcity worldbuilding project specifically tuned to my own tastes? One, I've already done that (like, twice). Two, HDG still has the aforementioned elements I love and want to work with, and I want to riff on them alongside others I know who also play within HDG's space.
More detail below:
1. My kinks are not your kinks. This is the big one for me. I acknowledge that HDG was originally started explicitly as noncon intox hypno brainwashing petplay erotica, but that's not my speed. My relationship to submission is about maintaining self-control and making the decision to obey, rather than having my decision-making forcibly taken away from me. Intox, hypno, brainwashing, etc. all run against my ability to enjoy the HDG themes I do like, and I am picking and choosing what's on my plate while still leaving room for others to add the usual stuff in.
2. The Affini are too perfect. This is with regards to the way the Affini are written in "canonical" HDG media as being perfectly-competent supreme overlords who can do no wrong and have negligible rates of failure at anything they do. For me, this is boring. Characters in media are fun because they are imperfect, because they fuck up every once in a while, because things don't always go their way. Mistakes are how people learn, and a character that doesn't learn is very dull. I want to introduce fallibility and limits to the character that is The Affini Compact as a whole, making them a more compelling and interesting force within HDG stories. Conversely, I also want to depict the Affini as having earned their seat on the galactic stage. I want to see them engage in the sort of logistical and political exercises needed to remain such a powerful civilisation. I want to see the kind of underhanded and manipulative tactics you need in order to invade and pacify other cultures without harming them. It makes them feel more powerful and alive.
3. Over-focusing on kink. Just like #1, I feel that most depictions of Affini in canonical HDG stories flatten their biology and psychology to the bare minimum required to be titillating objects. Every single Affini is reduced to a slavering predator eager to abduct and mindbreak her next victim. Yes, HDG is erotica, but where's the nuance? Where's the rest of the iceberg? What do the Affini do when they aren't fucking aliens? How do the Affini maintain such a dominant political position in the galaxy? These things are missing, and so too is any sense of the Affini being real people.
4. No sense of scale. Canonical population estimates sit at some silly number like 10^30 individuals, with a territory covering at least a dozen galaxies. This is comically large, and makes the Affini a dominant supermajority crowding out just about every other species. Also, where are the Affini going to find a floret for everyone? It's just silly.
Q: What does all this mean in practice?
A: It means I'm currently worldbuilding a bigass lore document for Affini, My Way and it's growing every day. It's still in a very rough, draft-y state but I'd love to hear what others have to say about it if this project catches their interest. My personal favourite highlights are "Affini are omnivorous heterotrophs" and the name for Matter Trainers. See below!
Tumblr media
Further up on this canvas are my notes for outlining a planned HDG story set in this style, but they're not ready to be shown to anyone just yet (would love to chat about my ideas, though).

mr. swords anon here! Clarification: your tender scenes are beautiful and heartfelt; I also just really enjoy the scifi tentacles and xenobiology/xenoculture of your original works. You've done well in signposting and content warning so i go into them willingly because i really like your descriptions on the physicality of the speculative biology elements. These specbio aspects can be easily glossed over but I appreciate that you did a lot of thinking and research on how those biological traits can affect the sex/scenario and its something i find deeply fascinating and respect
AA ty again anon 🫶 it's encouraging to know that the world-building and strangeness of my stories resonates with you. Honestly, writing batfish has made me think I should go harder in my original works with the xenobio, so maybe it'll get even crazier soon ;D with "out of orbit," I def have plans for making the antagonist a lot more alien once certain things have been Revealed haha. It means a lot that you like the softer scenes as well!

Ages of Cybertronian History
I'm trying to work through my writing process in public again here, but it does sometime help me to organize thoughts.
I'm still writing The Life and Times of Skywarp. It's close to reaching 400K words and is nowhere near finished. I think this meandering style of writing I often do comes from not pre-planning. Like, if I already knew the major pivotal events in his life, I could skip ahead to the next one and summarized what had happened in between. But I don't necessarily know the order of events in this fan continuity.
Some existing ages (from TFWiki, that can happen differently in various continuities):
Age of Evolution (simple machines, a macguffin, or god happened)
Age of Primes (The Thirteen in charge)
Great Cataclysm/Age of Extinction (Cybertron altered, Predcons die)
Age of Firstforged/Knights/Origins (Non-Prime Legendary figures)
Dark Age (A period of warlords, tribes or city-states at war)
Age of Wrath (Bots vs Quintessons at some point)
Age of Internment (Time(s) of internment for particular group(s))
Golden Age (Time(s) of energy prosperity and peace)
Age of Expansion (Colonization by Cybertronians)
Age of Rust (A Rust Plague Pandemic at some point)
Great War (Time(s) of war, often Autobot vs Decepticon)
Combiner Wars (Time of combination and violent division)
Great Exodus (Most Cybertronians abandon Cybertron)
Great Shutdown (Cybertron and those on it stasis locked)
Pax Cybertronia (Time of peace perceived as forced, probably)
Beast Wars (something techno-organic, probably)
Great Transformation (something esoteric and technorganic)
How I think these exist in my fan-continuity, so far:
Age of Evolution (Simple machines made planet that self-actualized, or religious lore is true.)
Age of Primes (Primes and Predcons co-exist, not all friendly, first contact with other dimensions)
Great Cataclysm (southern hemisphere altered, most Precons die, Unicron theorists suggest...)
Fall/Decline of Primes (Primes turn on each other, die or leave, Maximo made Maximals on his farm, other dimension knowledge lost)
Age of Origins/Warring States (rise of warlords and city-states)
Age of Internment (prejudice against remaining Predacons and Maximals, biped/vehicle supremacy)
State Games (Attempted non-violent resolution between states)
Time of Seduction (First Contact with Quintessons introduces interstellar commerce, xenocultural influence, establishment of senate)
Age of Wrath (Poductization of Cybertronians leads to rebellion and war against Quintessons, enables different Cybertronians to work together against common enemy.)
Golden Age (post-war freedom from productization categories/classifications, mostly egalitarian, trade between city-states, some shipping trade with other planets, but increasing senate corruption)
Age of Expansion (Space Bridge Corps and Titan Projects race to serve needs/wants to expand and attain resources/goods without Quintesson reliance, rediscovery of other dimensions kept from general public)
Age of Games? (political maneuvering on Cybertron and colony worlds, prejudice against constructs and outliers, increasing calls for representation, new State Games, Rise of The Ascent in south rivaling Polyhex Province and Greater Iacon, use of shadowplay and propaganda, factions as politics)
Age of Rust (expansion leads to Rust Plague pandemic. Space bridge technology blamed and defunded, isolationism and purging of xeno population on Cybertron, killing of wildlife believed to carry disease, trade disruption, assistance from another dimension aids in discovery of cure but exposes previous coverup.)
War (factions as identity, conflict between super-powers tips into war between factions, further detabliized infrastructure, exhausted resources)
Great Exodus (most of remaining population abandons Cybertron as resources dwindle)
Time of Seeking? (State of war between factions continues, piracy, seeking resources and artifacts, attempts to locate lost colonies, galactic reputation of Cybertron terrible, a particular collision in the Sol System.)
Something I've been trying to figure out is if war starts before or after Rust, but in this version, it's like they start with cold war, attempt to deal with Rust, and then only when getting the cure break into active combat?
IDK how much this makes sense.
