Guys I'm so brainrotted by Batfam fanfics that i forgot Duke canonically doesn't live at the manor
genuinely not a single thing I've read has followed this
like i only remembered because of this random tweet talking about how he's part of the batfam but isn't actually family
wait im going to rant now
Wait first, I get that it's hard to get into comics and that the only source to get content is a non-canon webtoon that doesn't exactly follow canon. Duke isn't a very popular character so its hard to find accurate or detailed content of him and people aren't interested in the first place. And yeah, it's easier to just put everyone in the same house (Actually, I don't think Dick, Jason and Steph live in the manor either but don't quote me on that.)
Okay now Duke has live parents okay we've been over this, he's not adopted he literally has his own family, that's his whole thing.
I reread Batman and the Signal (for like the billionth time) and yeah, he canonically lives with his cousin Jay, his legal guardian.

But yes, he is basically family to the Batfam like Steph and Babs are. He even attends the mentioned 'Weekly family breakfast'.

Furthermore, much of his character development revolves around his imposter syndrome about being part of the Batfamily.

But that doesn't mean he hasn't lived at the manor at all. After the events of the Robin War he does get taken in by Bruce as a ward (like Dick!!!) and is trained by him. It doesn't actually say when or how he gets put into his cousin's custody but he does make references to Duke being in the Wayne's care.

Now every other comic appearance he's had is very minor and doesn't actually talk about his living circumstances so it is totally plausible that he doesn't have to live at the manor. So basically, not much is going to change about his character just because of where he lives.
I'd say that's the end of the rant but I have one small addition. (I would like to preface this by saying I do not know how the American foster system works.) After he was separated from his parents Batman puts him in the care of Julia Pennyworth and we later find out he has been taken into foster care. But suddenly we find he's now in the custody of a live cousin? A part of Duke's storyline is that he goes through many foster homes as he searches for his parents so i find it confusing that there is suddenly family there for him later in his life and Jay doesn't have a reason to not be there for him.

okay guys thanks for reading and don't feel pressured to change your AUs

The batfamily is kinda weird
so recently i saw a post on how the relationship between dick and bruce is more brotherly than parental and that got me thinking about the dynamics of the batfamily. So in the comics Alfred was killed and out of everyone in his family, Dick was in his will. That post also taught me that Alfred actually had a daughter who still exists in Rebirth. So I guess the writers either forgot or purposefully left her out to have another brucewing or something. I mean i havent actually read that comic but apparently Alfred calls Dick, son in his will??? So that's our first weird quirk. Bruce and Dick are treated more like brothers, especially how Dick is the person who's raised his own son, Damian seeing Dick as a father figure is also a whole other barrel of worms. And we all know how bad Superman and Superboy being anything but father and son is. Both Barbara and Steph are also seen as sister figures even though both have dated members of the family (and one being queer coded with another member) and Babs is also somewhat of a mother figure for Cassandra.

i have a love hate relationship with the young justice show
on one hand it's a great introduction into dc with (mostly) fun and (kinda) likable characters
I've already made a post about how this show is not really beginner friendly but anyways, on the other hand the plot doesn't really let you enjoy the main cast as a whole and instead has 50 different plotlines at the same time and even veers off the main characters in the third season.
wait let me list my gripes with this show
1. mischaracterisation or a lack of characterisation
yj is infamous for not caring at all for it's main cast in the most recent seasons, all while tripling and even quadrupling the size of the cast. Of course there's bound to be some mischaracterisation but when the main cast is a mismash of various teen heroes from various eras of dc their character arcs get completely thrown off and even rewritten to be such unlikeable people (cough cough super boy cough cough miss martian) i mean how are you going to make a show and have your main characters be completely unlikable and even hated by the fandom.
2. lack of focus on the main cast
ooough young justice season 3 oooooh 👻
such an infamous season. i guess the character arcs of all our main characters being completed makes it slightly more okay but having this season focus on two more completely new casts of characters, one of which is very hated by the community, and having them go through two very different storylines, well the plot is vaguely the same but the character arcs are so different. And if that wasn't enough season two is a mess of yj throwing a band of characters at you and expecting you to immediately know who these people are, which leads me to my next point but first,
I must confess, i watched this show for two particular duos (cough cough birdflash cough cough timkon) well you know how well both of those went so im probably just salty about that.
3. the timeskips.
5 YEARS. 5 WHOLE YEARS BETWEEN SEASON 1 AND 2
oh my goodness so much happens in those 5 years, people are introduced, people leave and people DIE and so, so many plot holes that are just summed up to 'eh something must have happened off screen'
don't even get me started on that mess of a game that was supposed to patch the gap between these two seasons (ok i haven't actually played but have you seen those reviews, i must just read the fandom wiki)
another one of young justice's most 'iconic' features is it's perfectly linear storyline and continuous progression with absolutely no outrageous timeskips. we have characters popping out of nowhere i mean who the hell is spoiler- WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIRD ROBIN oh and miss martian changing her appearance every season, honestly i think shes getting uglier and i didn't even know that was possible (ok i guess she looks fine in the last season)
so you see, i dont really need to explain how bad the timeskips in this show are.
ok wait this has been just a post of me shitting on young justice uhhh guysss yj is sooo good you should totallyyyy watch
ok wait if you're just getting into dc young justice is a good watch but take the characterisation with a grain of salt okay, please trust me when superboy and miss martian are not like that. and kal is great but garth was actually the first aqualad and i hate to break it to you but artemis does not exist and spitfire is not real
so moral of the story, watch teen titans instead 🔥🔥🔥

Are the We Are Robin kids Robin?
I've been waiting for it, you've been waiting for it. Another N0-1R rant!

Now I went into this investigation with a strong opinion on whether the We Are Robin kids are considered Robins but I actually came out of this with a different mindset. It been argued that Duke isn't a Robin because that would mean that the entire WAR group would each be Robin too but here's my thoughts:
Now firstly, what constitutes a Robin?
There have honestly been so many that a fixed criteria wouldn't really work.
I'd say that Robin is a young vigilante who operates in Gotham
Because we can't limit it to say, gender or looks because we have Robins such as Steph, Maps and Carrie who are all female, with Steph and Carrie being non-black haired (Even Jason was originally ginger!)

Additionally, there have been Robins operating at the same time, Tim, Damian and Maps so it's totally okay for the We Are Robin gang to be Robin at the same time Damian is.

WAR is a young vigilante group of various ages and genders who operate in Gotham
Furthermore, all of the Robins (after Dick) have been given the moniker by,
(Disclaimer- This is a very dumbed down process of what happened)
Dick - Himself
Jason - Bruce
Tim - Himself with the help of Alfred
Steph - Herself (mostly) and Bruce
Damian - Alfred and Dick
Subsequent Robins usually got it from Bruce
and finally, We Are Robin were given the name (not really but also supplies) from none other than Alfred!
This is where I actually tell you my point which is
We Are Robin are a collective Robin
So yes, Duke himself is not a Robin but We Are Robin are.

Personas/Personae whatever
Note: I dont proofread and i have not played a persona game in a good while so feel free to correct me or something
Very minor spoilers for Persona 1 (mention of a certain death at the start of the game), 5 (mention of a major (unnamed) villain's persona)
So what is a persona? According to Jungian Psychology, everyone has masks, personas if you will, in life. It's pretty complicated but basically these beings they’re awakening to are representations of their personality.
Each character has an arcana eg. Naoya being an Emperor and his persona is a protective diety, which basically sums up their personality, then they have sub-arcana, these can be interpreted as their other masks. You can put on a personality that isn’t your own when you’re talking to someone you don’t like, you put on another personality when you’re public speaking ect. but these masks aren't authentically you, you may be able to portray this mask but perhaps not as comfortably than being yourself. This concept is expressed in the oldsona games with party members having a main arcana and therefore be able to utilise a persona's skills to the fullest and various sub-arcana they may use well but not perfectly. Additionally there may be arcana/masks characters are weak in using/portraying and can only use a few skills or none at all.
The modern persona games include the concept of a 'wild-card', a persona user who is able to wield all (most) personas with ease and reducing everyone else to one arcana and one persona (until they evolve but are still only restricted to the use of one persona). These wildcards are typically of the 'Fool' arcana (jack of all trades, master of none arcana basically) and are therefore, able gain this ability to mask as whoever, supported by the silent-protagonist style of character these are (the heros the other wildcards are just cooler ig) and the (i don't want to say dating-sim-esque but it kinda is) gameplay.
Awakening to a persona is like showing how you: Embrace who you are, Gain courage to face death, the truth, your oppressors ect. You gain a persona (in modern iterations) by facing death and being able to shoot an Evoker, accepting your shadow (personas are essentially tamed shadows) or standing up to your oppressor. Unless you have the ability to wield multiple personas. I guess using your persona in battle is like standing up for yourself, you're facing mind monsters with your 'true self'.
Similar to shadows, personas are monsters from various mythos (with of course the exception of Yamaoka which is an analysis for another day) but may have variations in appearance. For example, Loki, recently there has been two variations of Loki in one game, DLC of Persona 5's Loki and the typical Loki you would see in an SMT game. These show how a persona is definitely not like SMT demons and that personas/shadows can be interpreted differently between people. There have also been multiple cases of various characters sharing personas.

Persona Series Arcana Analysis
what better way to get back into posting that reposting another analysis also i havent played these games in a good while so feel free to correct me ig also spoilers for persona 3's ending (and trinity soul if you care)
Arcana and tarot have a very important role in the persona series. Your persona falls under an arcana, your friends have an arcana, that giant green penis monster has an arcana, that old couple down the street has an arcana, you get it. Note: I would like to specify mostly the major arcana are discussed in these games (with the exception of some characters) but you probably know that already
How is it used
The first few games describe everyone as having a 'main arcana' and various 'sub-arcana' for example 'Boy with Earring's' arcana is the Emperor and his sub-arcana are Strength, Moon and World this indicates that he, his main mask, is mainly a leader, the Emperor, with the ability to act as the Strength, Moon and World. Additionally, the mechanic that is the different arcana compatibility also details arcana that people are incompatible with, are unable to act/mask as ect.
The later 3 games change this system, with 'Wildcards' aka. Fools who journey through all the arcana and end at the World (or Universe) and are compatible with all the arcana, and everyone else only being able to connect with one arcana. This is due to the complete narrative overhaul of persona, with the modern games following as we follow a silent protagonist who is a blank slate and the player helps this protagonist to build personality and relationships.
A big part of the modern series is to build relationships and learn things from the different Arcana. Obviously in Persona 3 the main character dies and the moral of Persona 3 is to value life (honestly if you didn't that that out of that game idk what to tell you) so it's obvious that building these relationships would be a big part of the story. After you have built complete trust with these people, by completing their social link confidant hurr hurr, you are able to summon strong demon hurr hurr uhhh ig this mean you've learnt new things, built empathy and stuff and developed as a person, ergo, Fool's journey.
Additionally, the very well beloved and very much canon anime series, Persona: Trinity Soul suggests ideas that adults lose the ability to summon a persona and/or possess an arcana and require medication to uphold this ability. This is a commentary on how younger generations have more freedom, are rebellious and are still developing their identity. However, as we grow up, we integrate more into society until we lose our identity. Of course, there's a reason why this isn't canon. Persona 2 includes healthy, adult persona users and Akihiko makes a return in P4AU completely different to how he is supposedly like in whatever future this show is set in.

so senior pt interviews were a few days ago (yes ive been meaning to write this yes ive been procrastinating) and my english teacher brought up the fact i was third in my year (in my prestigious selective school 🤓<- no one asked) and she commented "you must read a range of texts"
well you see... the only books i read are school assigned however, i am an avid ~ indie webnovel~ enjoyer cough cough i only read fanfiction
so moral of the story is fanfiction is a perfectly reasonable piece of literature to read and it should count as reading a book
ramble under cut because i can't help myself
i dont get why fanfiction gets such a bad rep even though it's a type of fanart. even some famous books are actually just fanfiction of another series (a well known example being 50 shades of grey originally being twilight fanfiction). i guess fanfiction is know for being badly written fantasies by teenage girls but if you look into particular fandoms with a mostly adult fanbase the works there can honestly be quite beautiful.
Aside from the writing thing, i think the main reason i love fanfiction so much is tied to how i consume media in general. like it's hard for me to pick up a book or show out of nowhere, i have to have some idea about why i would theoretically like it. And when i do get into a game or series, i become obsessed, i watch spinoffs, i read light novels. So it makes sense thati'd want to read about my favourite series and about character's i'm already familiar with. Continuing on that point, i think fanfiction is really interesting in how people can share their own interpretations on how characters act or 'what if' situations where the only limit is your creativity.
so in conclusion, fanfiction should be considered (if not already) a legitimate form of literature, It allows writers to explore ideas and storylines, using already existing characters as a guide as well as having an established fanbase

it's like 1 am right now but i was up thinking about why DC's character design is more effective than Marvel's and i think i got it
DC's characters are gaudy but in a good way.
I mean characters like Batman and Superman are effective because they have a certain idea they embody and they exaggerate that further. Batman is effective because he appeals to edgy, male audiences, which takes up much of their fanbase, a character which the Avengers lack.
To preface, I will mainly be referencing the MCU and the DCU as opposed to the DCEU (because it's bad) and Marvel comics (because their fandom is mainly movie based [who reads marvel comics? not that dc fans read their own]) and also that is what i have personally been exposed to
Superman's character works better than Captain America's because he can appeal to a wider audience. CA's name and design is very... American to say the least. And it limits him because he doesn't appeal to the other 194 countries of the world whereas Superman can be appreciated regardless of nationality. Now I'm not saying that you can't like him but I myself am not American so i find it funny if i say 'Oh yeah my favourite hero of all time is propaganda of another country'
I am in fact, a DC fan so yes I am biased if that wasn't clear already. Now Wonder Woman is the most popular and/or successful female superhero. Why is that? Her character and armoured design are that of a 'Female Warrior' Mmm yes strong woman, very empowering. However she does feature a very low neckline that often exposes cleavage and a short, impractical skirt. Not very good design, not empowering. Another however though, they are appealing to children who embrace their femininity more innocently. Alternatively, Black Widow is the edgy character (design) of the Avengers and wears a full black bodysuit (Unsurprisingly she is also featured with cleavage, more often than not with women wearing such clothing in film, emphasised by the tight-fitted form of the suit) and that's really it. See, the problem with her design is that's its boring. There's no flashy logo, no accessories like a cape or mask, just a whole lot of nothing. To conclude both actually have bad designs thanks to Men but i guess WW is marginally better because she's Marketable
Speaking of, the main reason and the reason i was getting at was. DC characters are more marketable. Most if not all DC heroes have a unique (or as unique as they can get) logo. The Flash's lightning bolt, the Green Lanterns'... lantern, the list goes on. And its great because you can take any random object and slap a logo on it, suddenly your house is filled with all kinds of merch and DC's pockets are filled with all that revenue. (partially a reason why Spiderman is so great but i already talked about that) Now, when i realised it was The Logos i actually sat there (or laid there, in my bed, because i was up thinking about the dumbest things) trying to remember what icons were associated with each Avenger. I mean yeah... Cap's shield... erm Thor's hammer... wait why are these all just their weapons.
ok im going to go on a tangent because i want to rant (somehow i haven't talked enough).
I just wanted to say, this photo I'm looking at of the MCU Avengers, where's the colour? Where the pizzaz? Hawkeye is severely lacking purple here and Hulk's shorts are looking kinda grey here. As a purple lover i find this extremely offensive. So the MCU is very clearly aimed at a more mature audience so the colours are more dull and modern? im not sure how to describe it. Contrastingly (High contrast even), the Justice League is very bright, the combination of Supes, WW, Flash like so many primary colours man, and also an obsession with green i mean, Green Arrow, Green Lantern(s) and Martian Manhunter like thats enough green to solve deforestation. Also i just realised MM is a green 'monster', Hulk is a green 'monster'. MM's logo is a circled X, the X-men logo is a circled X. Dang, is this why the DCEU hates him, i mean other than the budget demands for a shapeshifting green creature. Okay anyways I got a bit off track, so JL, bright and offensively colourful not to mention their tacky logos but wait, that's why their so good. Their colour palettes and branding just makes them more marketable and easy to recognise. If you find them gaudy, that's the point, you're supposed to recognise them
okay that's enough for me thanks for reading

Random thought but yk how whoever has the power of Captain Marvel or something transforms into an ideal version of themselves, or a human and Philemon is revealed to have the same face as Tatsuya...
Now firstly, I headcannon that Philemon looks different depending who is looking at him, or who is the protagonist of the story. Like when Naoya was the protagonist, Philemon had dark hair and eyes and when Tatsuya was the protagonist, Philemon had auburn hair and reddish eyes (i think, i havent played in a long time)
Kind of like Hatsune Miku's lore of her hair changing colour between different people
Ive been reading a few Captain Marvel fics where one way or another Billy is separated from his powers. Captain Marvel would keep his usual form as an idealised version of Billy but I feel like the Living Lightning's form would actually have an unstable form maybe like his eye colour shifts on accident or his height changes from time to time and its not noticable at first but then the changes become more drastic and something has to be revealed
wait im getting off track but basically both are beings that look different based off a certain host or protagonist

whenever i see a tiktok on “when they tell me to play (popular person) and they expect me to play (popular thing by person) but i play (equally popular thing from said person)”
now the original post was about vocaloid producers but this works for basically every fandom in existence but i digress
i always wonder what the original poster expects from that person. Like how do you expect them to react?
"omg wow you're so much more of a fan than i am!!! i guess i should leave the fandom because i clearly don't have as much knowledge of you!!!"
Honestly what was your train of thought? Your superiority complex?
In reality, you're probably just introducing them to more information about that fandom, making them more of a fan, and soon you're not going to be special because that piece of info would be more well known.

Is XG K-Pop or J-Pop - an actual mini analysis
I'm going to begin with the usual 'I'm not in this fandom however...' because I'm not but today i saw some people fighting online whether they were k-pop or not and that got me thinking.
They are a Japanese group that are based in Korea but also they sing in English.
From what I've seen, their entire discography is english, save for a few Korean and Japanese terms but people put phrases from other languages in their songs all the time.
They have also covered both Korean and Japanese songs so there is potential for them to release full songs in those languages.
So basically yes but also no

Supernova- a mini analysis
This isn't the type of content I usually post about but this song has been stuck in my head all week so I kind of have to speak somewhere.
youtube
Obviously I am not familiar with aespa and the group's complete storyline but, as a Vocaloid fan, I am familiar with narrative song and music.
Firstly, the general plot of the song is the three superpowered members, Ningning, Karina and Winter urge Giselle to 'combust' like a supernova and awaken powers by wreaking chaos among the city. From this, we learn of their powers: Ningning - Pyrokinesis, Winter - Flight, Karina - Super-Strength and later, Giselle - Time
a few theories on what exactly is going on go as follow
the Ascension theory
This suggests that the three already-superpowered members are 'Supernovas' who are beings greater than humanity and possess magical power.
This is supported by the general theme of the album being a loss of humanity and eschatology (the part of belief and religion involving death, judgement, and the final destiny of the soul and humankind [Armageddon teehee].) though that delves into the rest of the album and songs that I have not listened to.
Additionally, it doesn't help that the (online) album cover resembles crop circles which are associated with aliens and the supernatural. I would give an analysis on the fashion and appearances of the members and how it reinforces the idea of superhumanity but we'd be here all day (I won't be opposed to it if someone asks though) but one element of the music video is the AI captcha (as seen below) and the weird AI stills near the end of the MV which have an inhuman, unsettling feel.
The reason they provoke Giselle is so she can join them in becoming a 'Supernova'. The motif of '631' in the clock apparently means 'time to join the battle' in terms of eschatology but I got that from a Reddit post so take that with as much reliability a Reddit post can get.
Assuming that is true, this further supports the idea of aespa ascending humanity and wanting Giselle to join. Also, a supernova occurs during the last evolutionary stages of a massive star. Emphasis on the 'last evolutionary stages'
the Supernova theory
Ok I get it, I can't name things but the gist of this theory is that this is a sort of artistic interpretation of how a supernova occurs.
This theory probably isn't true but it's still a pretty interesting interpretation of the music video. Honestly, it actually may be plausible if you pair it with the first theory.
Basically, a supernova can occur due to one of two reasons,
"In a Type Ia supernova, the supernova process happens when a white dwarf accumulates too much mass. The exact cause of the explosion is still an active area of research, but many think that the extra mass makes the core of the white dwarf heat up, which leads to too much pressure and energy inside the star that it is no longer able to support, and the star violently explodes.
In the core-collapse supernova type, the beginning of the supernova is marked by when the core of the star starts fusing silicon into iron. Usually, when elements are fused into heavier elements, energy is released, and this energy is what keeps the star from falling in on itself. Iron, however, is a special element in that it needs to take in energy to be fused into something else. Once the star starts making iron, the iron starts taking in energy and the star begins to fall in on itself. The star quickly collapses and once the core hits a critical density gravity is overpowered by the nuclear force which becomes repulsive, and the matter is violently expelled outward." (space.com)
The previously stated member's superpowers could also be interpreted as the elements of a supernova: heat, pressure and force/energy who are Ningning, Karina and Winter respectively. And they are urging Giselle to combust.
In conclusion, I am now burnt out and I can't write anymore and also that the Supernova MV by aespa is really cool.
AN: I lied, this might be my longest analysis yet.

recently I've been thinking about how media may or may not reflect someone's ideas on actual people. I guess the actual question is 'Does liking loli mean you're a pedo?'
DISCLAIMER- i am no professional i have done zero research and these are from my own experience in fandom. you could totally use this as prompt for your own investigation
i've seen pretty good arguments on why or why not and you may be thinking 'why would it not, that's what a pedo would say' but what i read was moreso if or if not writing whump means you're violent or something.
I guess this topic also leans into if 'Videogames incite Violence'
to summarise the statements of 'media doesn't reflect someone's mental state'
Whump and those associated fanfiction are moreso used as a way to explore a character's psyche and aren't solely used to inflict pain rather, how that character responds to it.
Fanfiction (fanmade media) is used to explore ideas and scenarios. Like an artwork. They are not meant to be viewed as actual people.
However,
Those who consume media such as Loli/Shota and Darkfic do typically do have those 'interests' and ideals outside of fiction.
Additionally those people use 'It's just fiction' as a sort shield
Those pieces of media could affect someone's view of the world eg. women being viewed as objects due to the concentration of media, particularly porn.
In conclusion, the media someone consumes is influenced by their current mental state but does not change it. Media can be used as both an art and a weapon.
