Hi! This is a question about your (really cool) Scuglang. Now, I have noticed that you sometimes use the Rain World symbols and script for your Scuglang. Because of the language not being a European-based language, I'll assume that there isn't really an alphabet, so to speak. How did you apply the Rain World symbols to your Scuglang, and how does it work enough to be able to be written?
Edit: Here is a link to a reddit comment where I've posted up some info about a Yongasabi font that I've developed, as well as a download link for the font. The glyph documentation document is here, though it is largely information taken from this post and elaborated.
Hello and thank you for taking interest in my (really cool) Scuglang Yongasabi, I am very proud of it. I have yet to make a more comprehensive guide as to how the writing system works but I threw together a very rough and simple guide on my work computer with mspaint and a mouse just now. I have since added some new images so this doesn't apply to all of them anymore. So this should actually cover everything about writing in Yongasabi. Have fun!
Tumblr media
Here are all the isolated consonant and CV syllable glyphs in Yongasabi. Note that the first row is for isolated consonants. Not included are punctuation or CVC syllable blocks because I'm not hand drawing 1734 glyph combinations, and it would be incredibly unhelpful to do so. Instead I'll just explain how to synthesize CV and CVC blocks below.
Tumblr media
A key as well, since that may help.
Tumblr media
So at its core, Yongasabi uses an abugida, so all regular consonant characters are pronounced with an added A by default (ka, ga, ta, pa, etc...) As you can see by this diagram, writing a line above the character changes the A to an I (so ka becomes ki) and a line below changes it to an O instead (so ba becomes bo).
Tumblr media
Then there's the long vowels. For standalone long vowels, the Monk symbol is written within the long vowel characters. When combining the with a consonant, the Monk symbol is replaced with the consonant (as you can see here with P and S).
Tumblr media
CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) syllable blocks, syllables that start and end with a consonant, are written by stacking the consonant characters. By default, they are read as CaC, but writing a line above turns it into CiC. Separating the characters makes it CoC.
Tumblr media
CVC syllable blocks with long vowels, including CaeC, CuC, and CeiC, are formed differently. CaeC and CuC are formed by encompassing the equivalent CaC syllable block within the long vowel glyph. There is a special rule for Caeh blocks, as noted below.
CeiC syllable blocks are formed by surrounding the initial consonant glyph with four marks and placing that above the final consonant. As noted, n and d glyphs in initial position will join to the final glyph.
Tumblr media
VC blocks (vowel-consonant) where the syllable starts with a vowel and ends with a consonant, are formed like CVC blocks but with the Monk symbol in place of the initial consonant.
Tumblr media
Here are some more specific rules that I've finally written down properly (and edited into this post several months after originally posting it). It can get to be a lot to memorize, but it's possible. Several people have already reverse-engineered all the rules just by observing the behaviors of the font I developed, which is bonkers to me.
Tumblr media
Punctuation in Yongasabi has fewer strict rules than English and tend to reflect the way one would speak. The symbols are as follows:
Full stops act like periods, marking the end of a sentence.
Pauses act like commas, marking a natural pause in speech, such as when listing items or separating clauses and ideas, though it is sometimes used to mark the end of a sentence with a less complete pause than a full stop.
The text end symbol is used to mark the end of a text, usually the end of a section, chapter, or book.
Gate brackets are used like parenthesis, to add additional information that may not be necessary.
The exclamation and question marks behave as in English.
Arrow brackets are sometimes used like gate brackets, but more often are simply used for decoration.
Long dashes are used to express an elongated sound like (aaa would be writing instead like a—) and to intensify exclamations and questions (!!! and ??? are instead written as !— and ?—)
Ellipses represent the writer trailing off or becoming quiet.
Short dashes are used almost exclusively to link names and titles to addresses (maki-andae, omi-tei, maya-ijun)
Quotes are quotes.
Tumblr media
Here's an example of the language written with the writing system, then romanized, translated, and broken down into its grammatical parts. It took a lot of time tuning the writing system to account for all the possible syllable block combinations but I'm happy with the results! Funny enough, it started as an attempt to make a working writing system out of Rain World's glyphs, just as a thought exercise, and eventually I wanted to make a whole language to support the writing system (then the writing system changed radically to support the new language.) Thank you for asking, and hopefully I'll have a release post for the language ready soon, since it is actually finished at this point.

Activity 7: A Short Story with a Local Landmark
Nothing Changed, Only Us
The sound of the suitcase wheels rolling smoothly along the wooden floor filled the old-designed house and a noise can be heard after some time. A gust of wind swayed across the curly curtains, letting the golden ray of sunshine pass through the chilling cold atmosphere of the house. The golden hue rested on top of the face of a mid 20s girl, whose body bolted in shock at the sudden tap on her shoulder.
“Lizi? Ikaw na ba yan?” A voice that almost sounded like a whisper made the girl — Lizian — jump a little and turned her back. Her eyes lowered down, landing on the image of an old woman whose hair is filled with gray streaks, wrinkles folded her skin, posture who looked like a shrimp and yet Lizi couldn’t help but tear up a little. After eight years in Los Angeles, she has finally seen her beautiful mother. “Oh my mother, I have missed you so much!” Lizi didn't hesitate to hug her tightly.
“Kamusta ka na, anak? Marunong ka pa ba mag Tagalog?” Her mother let out a giggle, which Lizi rolled her eyes playfully but still managed to laugh. “Ka-ya ko pa po ma-g Ta-ga-log” She answered back, pronouncing every single syllable like it tasted different on her tongue. Her mother raised an amused eyebrow. “See? Marunong pa ako, di ba?” she said, her accent unmistakably American, her pronunciation halting, almost like she was just reciting lines.
“Na-mi-miss ko na ang... uh... low-to... niyo po.” Her mom chuckled, massaging the bridge of her nose. “Ay anak … mag-aral ka na ulit ng Tagalog, para kasi ako yung na no-nosebleed.” Lizi clutched her heart dramatically, pretending she was hurt. “Ouch mother, I was trying my best!” Her mother let out another laugh and patted her arm. “Tara? Uhm paano ba sabihin ito sa Ingles? Let’s travel around the house!”
Lizi took off her white sneakers and placed them on the shoe rack, stepping barefoot on the cold wooden flooring. She looked around slowly, as though seeing everything for the first time — and yet it all felt strangely familiar. The walls were still painted with old brown, the capiz windows were still intact and still smelled oddly like buko pandan. Then, her eyes met a wooden cabinet with picture frames — some new, some old. One of them was a childhood photo of her and a boy covered in dirt carrying an ice cream cone.
“Wow, this photo is still here eh?” Lizi asked, holding the frame gently in her hand.  Her mother, who was preparing a sweet snack, glanced over. “Eh, di ko kasi matapon. Walang araw na hindi mo binabanggit ang lalaki na yan noon.” Lizi covered her mouth and laughed softly, remembering the old times. The way they played in the rain even though they were strictly prohibited too, eating ice creams everytime Manong Ray rings his bells, and also playing bahay-bahayan — she was the mother and he was the father. A streak of blush painted across Lizi’s face remembering all the sweet moments of her and … what’s his name again?
“What is his name again, mother? Andeng or Adeng?” Her mother raised all of her eyebrows, shooting a judgemental look. “Anak, Andeng is his palayaw, his real name is Andrei. Kung gusto mo full name, Andrei August de Leon.” Before she could reply back to her mother, a deep voice resonated from outside.
“TITA MANING! Adda ditoy ti saging saba a kiniddawmo a gatangen (Eto ang saging saba na pinabili mo).”  Lizi looked towards the open door, and there he was — a tall guy in a dirty plain white sando, with a tan probably because of planting in the fields, black hair drenched in sweat, a towel hanging from his shoulder, and a voice she didn’t remember being deep.
He was carrying a small plastic bag with the saba peeking through the top. Her mother stepped forward gracefully, grabbing the plastic bag and patting the shoulder of Andrei. “Oh Andeng, right timing ka. Nakauwi na si Lizi,” Maning looked towards her and pointed a finger in her direction, “Ayun oh.” Their eyes met and the world seemed to slow down in Lizi’s point of view. Even though a lot of things have changed, he still has that scar on his right cheek due to him falling down a tree — trying to save Lizi, his fluffy hair, and the feature that made Lizi fall in love with him, his golden brown eyes.
“LIZIAN CLARA MARIANO?! IKAW BA TALAGA YAN?” Andrei came running to Lizi and hugged her tightly. Despite his sweaty and sticky sando, he doesn’t have any body odor, only the scent of sweet cotton candy. He looked down and pushed himself out of the hug. He placed a hand on his neck, feeling embarrassed. “Patawad Izi, mailiwak kaniamon (I missed you).” She looked at him, clearly confused. She can’t even understand some Tagalog anymore, what more in Ilocano? “Nice meeting you again, Andrei.” She tried to brush the heat coursing through her body and act nonchalant, but she missed him so much — words can’t even describe it.
“Ngayon na nandito ka na, hintayin mo ako maligo! May pupuntahan tayo, binibining Clara” Lizi made a disgusted face because Andrei called her second name, Clara. “Ew, don’t call me that, Andeng.” Andrei rolled his eyes and walked towards Tita Maning and asked if he could use their bathroom to take a half bath. Lizi decided to sit down on the old woven bench by the sala and leaned her head back against the wooden wall. She closed her eyes, her chest still slightly fluttering from the sudden reunion. The sound of splashing water echoed from the bathroom in the back of the house. Her mother had gone to the kitchen again, busy humming while slicing the saba’s and preparing minatamis na saging — one of Lizi’s childhood favorites.
Just as Lizi was about to fully drift into a nap, she heard a loud “HOY!” from the bathroom door. She jolted. “What now—?” Andrei appeared, hair still dripping wet, now wearing a cleaner gray shirt and shorts. His skin glowed even more now under the sun peeking through the windows, and the towel was now hanging in his arm like a waiter in a fancy restaurant.
“Tara na, Clara.” He grinned wickedly and raised his eyebrows playfully. She groaned, grabbing a pillow and throwing it towards him. “STOP IT. Hu-wag mo-ng ta-wa-gin that cursed name.” He laughed mostly because of her pronunciation on the words, catching the pillow midair. “Kahit nasa America ka ng ilang taon, arte mo parin.”
“Whatever. Where are we going, anyway?” she asked, standing up. Andrei tilted his head and smirked. “Secret. Basta sumama ka lang.” Lizi crossed her arms. “Do I need to wear, like … boots? Or is this some muddy bukid adventure?” “Nope,” he said, walking backward towards the door. “Pero baka gusto mong dalhin yung camera mo atsaka atsaka isang man lang Tagalog-English dictionary.” “I hate you, and also how did you know I have a camera?” she muttered under her breath, grabbing her tote bag anyway and slipping on her white sneakers. “Palagi ka naman may dala non eh atsaka if you really hate me, bat sumasama ka pa rin,” he teased. She rolled her eyes. “Only because I’m bored.” But deep down, she wasn’t bored. She just wants to spend time with him again.
“Okay, be serious. Where are we even going?”  She asked while scratching her arm because of mosquitos around the area. “Ganyan ka na ba uhm, anong word yun sa Ingles … AH HAH oblivious?” He shot her a mischievous grin from the back. “Pupunta tayo sa ating favorite spot noon, Vigan!” Lizi’s eyes shone with anticipation, Vigan was their safe place when they were kids. A place where most of their memories were created, and now she was about to see it again — how nostalgic. “Miss  Lizian Clara Mariano, welcome back to the Philippines. Now, accept my present for your home coming, a visit to Vigan.” Andrei gestured his hand towards the entrance of Calle Crisologo. Lizi smiled widely as the familiar view of kalesa roaming around, the old houses preserved in the Spanish-colonial era still there, and more importantly, the shops.
“Vigan still hasn’t changed, eh?” She took out her camera from the tote bag and took a shot on every possible house she could see. Andrei followed her wherever she went and asked Lizi something, “Hey, anong oras na?” She looked at her wristwatch and it read 6:15 pm. “6:15 pm, why?” She put a halt on her steps and looked back. “Uhm wala, picture ka lang jan.” Lizi’s footsteps echoed slightly on the cobbled stone path in Calle Crisologo. The sun was beginning to dip, casting golden hue on every house, creating the perfect scenery for Lizi to capture with her camera.
The houses towered on either of her side, some windows were open, half-open or just closed. Below, where the stone and wood meets, were stores with homemade things such as: a chicken in a wood platform, kalesa keychains, “I Love Vigan” shirts with matching scenery of Vigan itself, small scaled kalesa hanging on by a string, and old books about the history of the place.
Across the street, there was a cafe designed like a vintage house too. As Lizi came closer, she could see what was inside. Old vinyl collections hang on the walls as the scent of  coffee lingered in the air even outside. The tables were the ones you could imagine being in a Spanish times movie, and the chairs had a shiny wooden frame, complementing the tables really well.
When she turned her back, a kalesa was waiting for her and surprisingly, Andrei already boarded the left seat. “Ang tagal mo naman, kanina pa kami ni Kuya Ray naka stay dito oh.” Kuya Ray? Lizi thought to herself. Wasn’t Kuya Ray the ice cream vendor back in the days? What’s he doing here with a kalesa? Andrei grinned as if he read Lizi’s mind. “Oo sya nga, Clara. Ayaw na daw kasi ni Kuya Ray mag ice cream, kalesa na raw vibe nya ngayon.” He patted the seat next to him, signalling Lizi to board. She stared at Kuya ray — now a bit older, his signature hat was still in place, only a bit worn out. He gave her a toothy smile and said “Welcome back, Ms. Los Angeles!”
She chuckled and finally climbed in, settling beside Andrei as the kalesa slowly rolled forward. She closed her eyes only focused on the sound of the hooves clicking on the ground. It reminds her of the sound of keyboards clacking which always makes her satisfied in some type of way. “Okay, I missed this so much.” It was intended to be a whisper to herself but it came out louder than expected. “Ako rin, na miss ‘to.” He said while looking at the side profile of Lizi while she was busy aligning her eyes on the lenses.
‘Okay lovebirds, nandito na tayo sa … Plaza Salcedo. Right on time kasi,” Kuya Ray looked at his watch and it showed 6:53 pm. “Seven minutes nalang mag statsart na ang dancing fountain.” Andrei jumped out of the kalesa and went on the right side and bowed to Lizi. He held out a hand, pretending to be a knight accompanying a queen. She gasped slowly and grinned, accepting his offer and went down the kalesa in an elegant way.
As they walked towards the dancing fountain, they headed first to the Metropolitan Cathedral and Parish of the Conversion of Saint Paul, most commonly known as Vigan Cathedral. They looked at their intertwined hands and Lizi was the first one to let go. “Uhm … let’s pray first.” She said awkwardly, suppressing down her jumping heart who wants to separate from her body. “Ay oo nga pala, uhm sorry.” He laughed but it came out as a forced one, Lizi could tell. Both of them tapped their heads, chest, left shoulder to the right, the familiar rhythm of the Sign of the Cross. They placed their hands together and recited a quiet prayer only themselves knew. After an “Amen”, they left the Cathedral and now looked over the fountain — it was about to start.
Children were running barefoot on the ground, trying to catch the fountains. The plaza was buzzing softly, but all Lizi could focus on was the fountain. Streams of water shot up in rhythm with the music, glowing under lights of pink, blue, and purple. Each jet moved as if it were dancing — twisting, spinning, reaching towards the stars. Andrei stood beside her, arms crossed loosely, watching her instead of the show. “Natatandaan mo pa rin ba ‘to?” Lizi smiled faintly, her face glowing with the streaks of the fountain. “How could I forget? This was our spot.” Her voice became a hush as she realized Andrei had already intertwined his hands with her. “May gusto akong sabihin sayo.” Her heart once again thumped in her body, like a beast waiting to be free from its cage.
“Uhm … yeah? What is it?” Andrei looked at the fountains, still dancing with the night. Imaginations of Andrei confessing filled Lizi’s mind and she can’t help but hear the four words she had been waiting to come from his mouth — I love you, Lizi. Moments passed but all she could hear was his shaky breathing. “Hey, don’t be shy, spit it out!” She encouraged him, but what he said next was something she was never prepared for. “Papakasal na ako.” Lizi’s mind stopped functioning, the fountain still was dancing but why does Lizi’s world felt like it stopped? She doesn’t know what to feel — happy, because her best friend is now getting married and yet, she feels angry and sad. Everything he did, was there really not a meaning behind it? Or was she only putting a definition into the things he did?
Her throat burned into flames, making it hard to breath and swallow everything down. Was I the only one holding on? “Hey Lizi? Okay ka lang ba? Sana di masyado nakakagulat yung sinabi ko.” He said, oblivious to the fact she is now holding back tears. “Yeah … congrats Andrei! Hope you’ll enjoy your wedding.” Her voice cracked into millions of pieces and tears were now streaming down on her face like a waterfall. “Agyamanak, Lizi. (Salamat, Lizi).”
Now, silence hangs in the air as none of them mutter a single word. The dancing fountain, moments ago so alive, now dropped to the ground and stood still.  She stood motionless still processing everything. Andrei looked at her and maybe that is where he realized Lizi was crying. “Lizi …” She removed her hand from his and took a step back. “I should go,” she said, brushing away the tears using the back of her hand. “I — uhh, I think my mom is waiting eh?” She turned away before he could say anything, offer a hug, or even an explanation that’ll make her heart shatter more.
And in that very moment, Lizi realized that the goodbye she wasn’t ready to hear had already happened, but not in the way she was expecting.

Japanese language lesson! Focusing on "Pika" and "Biga."
I'll keep things fairly simple by using Katakana, as it's the simplest to look at, but I'll transliterate the two terms as initial example: ピカ (pika) and ビガ (biga). As you can see, the symbols are very nearly identical. with the accent marks being the main difference between them. "pi" and "bi" are both modified versions of "hi" (ヒ).
In Japanese, many syllables can be modified to sound different with the accent mark " whereas only h- syllables use the °. With the addition of the ", Ka becomes Ga, Ta becomes Da, Sa becomes Za, etc. Basically, it makes the consonant part of the syllable a harder version. The ° solely turns h- into p-, so not much to say about that one.
But this is why making Pikachu shouting "PIKA" would sound like "BIGA" because the syllables share symbols and sounds.
Also, I know the Ask that brought it up used "Bega" instead of "Biga" but e and i are very distinct sounds in Japanese; "e" in a syllable is always pronounced as "ay" like in hay and "i" is always "ee" like in meet.
Honestly Japanese is a fascinating language but seems like a pain in the ass to learn and I applaud all that do.

Good morning 25
I guess you’re no longer reading these.
I guess sda knows na separate nata. I didn’t tell them but kahibaw
I remember telling aira days/ a week after sa cannabis thing.
(Naingnan na tika ato kato ga pizzahut pata. Kato felt like your concern was more on how people reacted to me not on jealousy or something )
Before i told aira, mao to akong first hilak in months
Wala gihapon ko na feel free completely after i told you. Perhaps if you reacted negatively i would have.
I needed someone to tell me it could be concerning
I told aira the cannabis side first, then the feelings
She laughed at me and the situation
She told me it was normal. and that ma wrong na if nakoy buhaton anything to pursue
I immediately responded na of course, and i said immediately na “si Virla akong e marry”
na clarify na nako sa previous entries na i believe what i wanted to believe mao to ang naka blind.
But with a straight face ko ni ingon na ill marry you. I was sure of that bisag wala pakoy kwarta.
I was no longer sure katong ni ana naka na with a straight face na “wala naman ta vin”
Said like a stranger with hints of disgust.
I think na agreed upon na nako sa akong self nya ni admit rasad ka on your own na you can be cold.
Pero i trained myself sa atong years na eventually mo warm raka and ang kana na ka warm would worth tanan hints of cold nimo
But i fought to the end or im still even fighting until now
Last sentences nato sa atong last date did not directly say na let’s not break up
I gave you what you wanted . I wanted our last night to be remembered as great, full of warmth
Gave me relief sa akong drive home bisag sa akong pinaka guol na nafeel ever
Im about to say something selfish or maybe fair:
But you left me. I caused all our pain but you left me. You chose to cut your feelings. I did not
I hate the decision. I cant hate you.
Ill never marry
If relationships are about trust. I trusted the best person i know nya she left me. How can i trust anyone else
I lost the beautiful thing that proved my beliefs.
Now we are normal like actually conforming
Yours wont qualify as betrayal to everyone else but me because we aren’t together anymore
But itll still hurt a lot
Labels . Voluntary bound
Feelings. Ang natural. But gives us no right. (but i have a right to feel here)
Why did you leave me? - to heal
or theres nothing left in me for you to love
how can i stand after that
How can i not want to turn into a ghost
I guess nibalik nani : i love you but I don’t want this pain, but i also do. I waiting for your warmth that will probably never be back to me again

What if there was a language or culture in which pronouns aren't tied to gender. Gender is still a thing and point for discussion, etc. Pronouns just aren't gendered.
Instead, they're numbered. The first person/thing mentioned in a conversation gets the 1 pronoun. The second gets the 2. There's probably a prefix if a person/thing is unknown.
So, let's pretend that the pronouns are these:
er- = unknown la/lir/lan = first ba/bir/ban = second ka/kir/kan= third ta/tir/tan = fourth na/nir/nan = fifth
"Did you hear about Haley's cousin?" Haley is mentioned first and gets la/lir. The cousin will be ba/bir.
"No, what about er-ba?" The use of 'er-' suggests that this speaker didn't even realize Haley had a cousin.
"Ba crashed lir car." This speaker doesn't use er b/c they know the cousin.
"You're kidding! La must want to kill er-ban. What did er-ba do?" The speaker has chosen to continue using the er- prefix, but honestly could have stopped. But they're probably operating from the assumption that the other speaker knows the cousin more/better.
"Ba's going to take it to Marin's shop to get repaired and pay for whatever insurance won't."
"Oh, good. Ka does really good work. Ka fixed my car after I got into that fender-bender last month with that bastard who decided to slam er-tir's brakes in the middle of the street and then peel off without a word."
"Still salty, I see?"
"Always. Someday er-ta will feel my wrath."
"And the gods shall tremble."
---
And I feel like you could like nod toward someone or catch someone's eye and start with just using a pronoun without saying who you're referencing because you both know who the conversation is about.
Trick would be knowing how many pronouns to create, but I think you could tie them to numbers. So like they're the first syllable of each number 1-9 and then the first letter/sound + ir for the possessive form and +an for the object. Etc.
Or maybe they're the letters of the alphabet in order or something. In English that could be like ba for first, ca for second, da for third, fa for fourth, ga for fifth, etc.
ETA: There should be a suffix for when you join a conversation and you don't know who a pronoun references. Let's say "ki." And maybe we can use the suffix -hasa for plurals.
Alys: Can you believe how much homework Ms Prynne assigned?
Ben: La hates us. And fun. And the sanctity of weekends.
[Callie walks up at this point and starts walking with Alys and Ben as they continue talking.]
Alys: Do you think we could complain to the principal about lir? Say la is unfair in lir homework practices?
Ben: Maybe, but I doubt it'll do anything. Ba talks a big game about student voice, but ba never actually listens to anything we say, does ba?
Callie: The school board could help with la-ki, maybe?
Alys: Ms Prynne and that's a good idea. I'll ask my mom about contacting ta-hasa. I think ka is friends with er-ta. Aka, I'll ask my mom about contacting them [plural]. I think she's friends with one of them.
Ben: Awesome. Doesn't help with this weekend, though.
Alys: True.
Callie: I'm so glad not to be in lir class with you! Our only homework is to pick a favorite song. Na says we'll share them next week. Callie doesn't label who 'na' is, but context clues suggest it is her teacher. Also, she uses 'them' here instead of the next pronoun. That is because it is a short-term use. I think they/them is only used immediately after a reference when the antecedent is clear and is only used when the speaker doesn't expect that particular noun to become part of the conversation or discussion. Callie has no expectation that the conversation is going to turn and be about favorite songs, especially the favorite songs she and her classmates will choose.

Luck of the Draw
Summary: Anti’s up to his old tricks, it’s up to the Septics to stop him.
A/N: Saint Paddy’s Day is my excuse to have all the Septics in one story. Enjoy.
KA-THUD!
Anti awoke to the sound of a lightning bolt ringing in his ears. He had just reformed after running into Dark. In his defense, if he’d known Dark was more red than blue he would have kept a 40-foot pole in-between them.
There was a thunderstorm out now. Something that both thrilled and unnerved him. Thrilled because he partially fed off of electricity since he was a glitch demon, but it also unnerved because he . . . he had . . . he was . . .
It was probably unimportant anyways. If it was important he would have remembered it.
He buried the uncomfortable churning in his soul by tracking down Henrik. He always felt better after pissing off Henrik.
By the time he found them there was a lull in the storm and Henrik was with the other Septics. All six of them were seated around an outside café table. A couple of them had sandwiches, but everyone had various types of coffee.
Anti was moving before he was even sure what he was going to do to piss off Henrik. But he saw that Henrik was right under the edge of the mental awning of the café. There was still some water.
Marvin got the warning that Anti was nearby right before Henrik got a bucket’s worth of water right on top of him.
There was a glitchy cackle and Anti was leaning over the edge. Henrik wiped the water out of his face, turning in absolute fury to Anti and starting to shout at him in a mix of English, but mostly German.
Chase and Marvin looked a bit worried and upset, mostly because they’d been also hit by the water, but J.J and Séan were just watching them with different levels of amusement. J.J in particular calmly sipping on his tea in his chair. Unlike Marvin who got some water on him, J.J was in a perfectly shielded spot, which Séan could only stare in suspicion at since J.J had been very eager to go for that seat first. Robbie was just looking between everyone, clearly looking for some social cue. Usually he was good at it, but today he’d been having some problems and the two drastically different reactions from his teammates were not helping.
Anti was just cackling, grinning at Henrik as he leaned on the edge of the awning.
Then . . . something struck him in the side of the head. It was a high caliber round but it struck Anti in the head and neck and if he’d been possessing a body the shot would have killed it. Since he wasn’t, his aura just devoured the bullet and Anti’s whole body glitched.
Immediately he froze and started looking around for the assailant. Someone had pissed on his fun and he wasn’t going to let that slide.
Eventually his eyes landed on a shooter standing in black and Anti recognized him instantly, “Brody, yer kid’s gettin’ a new face.”[1]
The glitch demon shot off towards the rooftop and Paddy, Chase’s eldest son, dropped his rifle for a handgun and once Anti was close enough shot him point-blank in the chest.
This round however wasn’t a bullet, it was an EMP dart that jolted through Anti’s body and he was out. The round wasn’t enough to discorporate the demon, only stun him.
Paddy looked inordinately pleased with himself and was about to stomp on the demon’s face when a dart hit him in the arm and he froze, confused. His arm was already feeling numb.
The confusion caught the young sniper off guard at exactly the wrong moment when gas was shot in his face and dropped him. A magical barrier drawn around Anti and shielding him from magical or human eyes.
Paddy woke up while he was being dangled off the edge of a building, Anti holding him by the collar of his shirt, magic keeping him from dropping . . . for now.
The young teen let out a farther undignified, terrified squeak.
“Yeh[2] awake?” Anti cackled. “Good. This’ll teach yah ta mess with me.”[3]
“Give him here Anti!” Marvin flew over, magic at his fingertips. Jackie zipping up behind the demon, J.J and Chase following behind the speedster. Robbie and Henrik who were at the foot of the building braced to catch Paddy or intercept Anti.
“Give me back my kid!” Chase ordered.
“He shot me in the face!” Anti spat.
“Why do yeh care? Yeh can’t get any fookin’ uglier.”[4] Marvin dared.
Anti hissed at Marvin.
Chase took a step closer and Anti threw Paddy over at the sharpshooter. “I fookin’ see him again, an’ he’s dead.”[5]
“Yah[2] okay?” Chase asked his son as Anti disappeared in a flash of pixels.
Paddy pushed himself away in anger, “I had him!”
“Why were yeh goin’ after him?” Chase demanded as Paddy collected his things and started putting them away. J.J was standing off to the side of the roof, close to the corner and just watched the group as everyone left the roof and Paddy stomped off to get away from Chase.
Back up at the roof the Septics had been on Anti was still lying where he’d been dropped. It didn’t take him long to get back up but by then the storm was rolling back into the area.
Anti was pissed, he was going to find that kid and take his fingers.
When he got up, there was someone on the roof with him. It was dark but Anti could still see and he was out for blood.
He moved forward and suddenly the other person was right in front of him and punched Anti in the face.
The glitch demon hissed at his assailant. The figure stood against him, rain falling off the sleek black suit, a silvery-brass spade symbol on the front.
Anti couldn’t detect a scent, he couldn’t see an aura, but something in him absolutely hated this individual. The glitch demon was letting out a low growl, accented by the lightning around them.
There was a stray bolt of lightning that crashed down dangerously close and when the blinding light cleared there were four almost identical people standing against Anti. The only difference between the suits was that a different card suit sat on their chests. Spade, Hearts, Diamond, and . . .
“Hello Anti,” Clubs greeted, the distorted voice covering up anything that could be used to identify the individual.
Anti summoned his knife, “I want fook all ta do with yeh so back off.”[6]
“No one needs to get hurt today,” Clubs reminded. He motioned to Spade. “My friend here is an expert on both tech and glitch demons. We could have killed you at any time.”
“I don’t like yeh[2] freaks,” Anti snarled. “An’ I don’t like bein’ told what ta do.”[7]
Spade pressed something on his arm panel and something in Anti’s form felt like it was being twisted. He screamed and his form started floating.
Clubs magically shuffled the deck, cards floating in the air until the whole deck disappeared to six cards. The aces of spade and diamond, the jacks of clubs and heart, and two jokers. Each had faces on them. Each face in order was Logan, J.J, Chase, and Ethan. With Marvin and Nate on the jokers. “All we need is for you to keep your eyes on them and tell us where they are. If you want to fight them or ignore them otherwise, we don’t care.”
“I think yah all should just go fook yerselves,”[8] Anti dared.
“You either assist us or this is the last conversation we have,” Spade threatened.
Anti let out another violent hiss, glitching even more than before in his anger.
“Now, now,” Diamond chuckled, the tone a little lighter than the other two, a slight grainy tone to the distortion. “There’s no need for threats.”
“You know there is,” Spade retorted. “He will answer to nothing else.”
“Why don’t yah go an’ fook a band ‘a needles, then?”[9] Anti flipped him off.
Spade took a step, his hands turning into long spikes. “You’re all bluster and no substance.”
“Spade,” Diamond warned.
“Yeah Spade,” Anti baited, “why don’t yah listen ta the bastard holdin’ yer leash?”[10]
That electrical jolt passed through Anti’s form, feeling like it was trying to rearrange his insides. Anti collapsed to the ground, trying to fight the screams and Spade walked over to slam one of his spikes into Anti’s shoulder, the pain ripping through the glitch’s soul, making him scream.
Right before the pain could discorporate Anti’s form, Spade backed off and it stopped, the aftershocks rippling through the glitch demon.
Something was thrown in front of Anti’s face and spade commented, “Well leave you some time to think on it.”
When Anti picked his head up the four figures were gone. The object was Henrik’s hospital ID and something in Anti absolutely boiled with fury.
Threatening him was one thing he couldn’t tolerate.
Threatening Henrik was another. Henrik had nothing to do with them.
He wasn’t sure what he was going to do to make them pay but he did know that it wasn’t going to be quick. Anti was going to make them bleed.
And he certainly wasn’t going to help them find anything.

Note
hii, if you don’t mind- do you think you could write that one (iconic) car chase for the big hero 6 au? thanks!
One of the best scenes.
Car Chase!
Charlie peaked out from behind the storage unit he cowered behind. He closed his eyes, trying to think.
He knew he’d wanted to find the man in the mask. But he hadn’t truly thought through what he’d do when he accomplished that.
From what he could gather, the man hadn’t seen him yet. That was good. The boy could vaguely hear a voice in his head, telling him to run. It sounded vaguely like Jack’s. Gripping at his chest, Charlie tried to keep his heart from breaking out.
He had to focus on the man. He had to figure out what this man wanted.
This man had started the fire. This man was the reason that Charlie’s only constant in life was dead.
Still unsure of the man’s intentions, the boy turned back to the robot beside him. “Okay, Baymax, time ta use those upgrades!” he encouraged quietly.
The big machine blinked and raised up its arms in a defensive position. And Charlie turned to make his way out to face the man in the mask.
That is, before a blinding light caused a spike of panic to shred through his veins. He covered his eyes, ready for some kind of fight, until he heard the sound of a car door opening.
“Charlie?”
“Oh no…” the kid groaned. Not them. Not this. Not now. “You guys can’t be here! You have to go!”
The four of them stepped out of the car together. “Kid, what are you doing out here?” Spot was at the least, looking down at him with worried eyes. Race stood behind him and Katherine and Albert stood calmly by the car.
“No! Nothin’! I’m not doin’ nothin’! Could ya just-“
It was hard to miss the way Race squinted starts the robot behind him. It was even harder to miss the hurt in his eyes when he realized what it was. “Is that Baymax?” He stepped around Charlie to get a closer look at Jack’s last creation. Charlie watched as he took his hands out of the pockets of his leather jacket. Those blue eyes looked over at him, almost angrily.
Charlie just shook his head. “Yes, but-“
“What did you do to him, Crutch?” the older boy asked, crossing his arms over his chest and waiting for some kind of explanation.
But Baymax spoke before Crutchie could come up with any response. “I also know ka-rah-teh,” he stated, moving his arms around in front of himself, as if to prove it.
Squeezing his eyes shut in embarrassment and feeling the stress gripping at him, Charlie whirled around, away from the disappointed gaze of Racetrack Higgins. “You guys need to go!”
He found that Katherine was standing right in front of him, leaning down to put a hand on his shoulder and glaring at Race for a moment. When she looked down at him, Charlie sighed. “Don’t push us away, Charlie… we’re here for you… that’s why Baymax called us…”
Charlie went to respond, but was once again cut off. “Those who have suffered a loss, require support from friends and loved ones-“
“Okay, but I-“
“Who would like to share their feelings, first?”
It was almost comical how fast Albert’s hand shut up. “Ooh! I’ll go!” he shouted, stepping even closer to Charlie and smiling around at the group with a wave. He always was the one that made everyone laugh. But the teen was not in the mood. “Hi! My name is Albert and it has been thirty days since my last- holy mother of Megadon!”
A commotion broke out above them. What sounded like a hissing of snakes turned out to be Charlie’s own invention gone mad. A storage unit was lifted from its place on top of another.
And there stood the masked man.
“Am I the only one seeing this?” Albert asked.
Katherine was quick. She grabbed her phone and snapped a picture.
That was when the masked man shook his head, freezing for only a moment, before that large metal container was thrown down at them.
Spot let out a cry and ducked down, waiting for the weight of the thing to crush him. But he gasped when he was able to open his eyes. Turning to his left he found Baymax on his back on the ground, lifting the metal compartment up over their heads. “Oh my God!”
“Spot get outta there!”
Race sounded panicked.
Charlie barely had time to make sure he was still breathing before he was slung over someone’s shoulder. “No!” It was Spot. They were headed back towards the car. “Baymax, get him!”
“Cheese it, kid! We gotta go!”
Spot set Charlie down by the door, expecting him to get in. But the boy had other ideas, moving to run back towards the man, only to be grabbed around the waist and shoved into the backseat and have the door slammed on him. “No! What’re ta doin’?!”
“Savin’ your life!” Race informed from the passenger seat, slamming his own door just as Spot put the car into reverse. “Go, Spot!”
“Baymax can handle that guy!” Charlie tried to defend, only for his statement to be proven wrong a split second later when a loud crash sounded from the top of the car. They all had to duck to avoid the collapsing roof of the cheep car Spot was driving.
Katherine shook her head. “Go!” she demanded, wrapping an arm around the kid and holding him close to her in attempts to stop his fussing.
It wasn’t working.
The car was set in reverse and Spot slammed down on the gas pedal.
Race fished in his pocket for his box of cigs. He lit one quickly, hardly even thinking about it. But Spot reached over to try and snatch it. “No smokin’ in my car!”
The younger boy leaned just out of his reach. “You ain’t tellin’ me not ta smoke right now!” he spat, shoving Spot’s hand away and turning in his seat to face Jack’s little brother. “Charlie! Explanation! Now!” he demanded.
Frantically, Charlie tried to put it all together himself. “Those are my microbots!” he came up with, pointing at the things that were shifting and rushing around the man in the mask who was now following them. “He started the fire! I don’t know who he is!” The microbots came rushing towards them. Charlie looked up quick. “Baymax! Palm heel strike!”
Baymax followed the order, effectively stopping the microbots for a moment and getting the car turned around with one hit.
But that only seemed to enrage the man all the more. He was gaining.
“Turn left!” Race instructed, catching sight of their attacker in the rear view mirror.
Spot shoved at him, but did what he was told.
Albert turned to look out the back window. He watched the man expertly follow them, using the microbots as transportation. They were fast. “That mask… the black suit…” he noted out loud. “We’re under attack from a super villain, people!” he exclaimed excitedly, leaning forward to press his palms up against the window. “I mean… how cool is that! I mean… scary, obviously! But how cool?!”
Race rolled his eyes. And turned back to face out the front window just in time to feel the car speeding to a halt. He gasped. “Why are we stopped?” he asked breathlessly.
“Lights red!” Spot explained, gesturing ahead of them. He looked frantic. And Race took another puff of smoke into his lungs, irritated
“There are no red lights in a car chase!” he screamed.
“There’s cameras! I’ll get a ticket-“
“Is that really your biggest concern right now-“
“Just go!” Katherine yelled from the backseat, watching as the man reached out towards them with the microbots, almost touching them, before the car sped off again.
Trying desperately to keep control of the car on the wet streets, Spot dared to ask the question they were all thinking. Except maybe Albert. “Why is he tryin’ ta kill us?!”
Scoffing a little, Race rolled his eyes. “Oh gee, I don’t know, let’s ask him… um, sir, why’re you tryin’ ta kill us?” he mocked.
Charlie tried to ignore it. Race had been so bitter. Ever since Jack died it was like all the sarcasm and standoffish behavior had taken over his once fun and playful manner.
He couldn’t think about it right now. He could only let Albert lean forward in excitement. “It’s classic supervillain! We’ve seen too much!”
“Are you really putting your blinker on?!”
“I’m indicating my turns! It’s the law! It’s force of habit!” Spot defended, making a sharp right.
But Race wasn’t having it. “Oh, Jesus Christ,” he growled, cracking the window and throwing his cigarette onto the street. Then he was reached to push on the bar beneath Spot’s seat and the older boy went sliding backwards with a shocked cry.
“Race!”
Race slammed down on the gas and glared out at the man who had managed to make his way in front of them. His blue eyes narrowed with determination as he sharply turned right just before the reached him.
Everyone in the backseat screamed.
The young man drove faster than he ever had before, maneuvering the car onto the sidewalk to try to avoid the machinery that had been turned against them. He turned down an alley way and scared some birds and somehow managed to go even faster.
The man found them again, trying to build a wall to make them stop. But Race thought quick. He switched gears and slid sideways into what looked like a sort of ramp that the microbots has created halfway to their goal and let the car jump into the air and onto a bridge behind it.
Charlie ripped himself from Katherine grasp. “Stop the car! Baymax can handle this-“ he tried to say, just before the car door was ripped off by his own invention and he was falling towards the fast moving, solid ground beneath them.
A hand tightened in the back of his sweatshirt. It stopped him just before his skull collided with the street. Before he could speak, he was lifted back into the car, set in the passenger seat and a hand was securing the seatbelt around him. Charlie looked up and gave Baymax a sheepish smile.
“Always buckle up before you begin driving,” the robot encouraged.
No one even flinched.
And Race kept going.
“Race,” Charlie heard Spot warn. He looked up. The train tracks were up ahead. There was a train coming. “Race,” the man wanted again, more urgently. But Race was not listening. “Race!”
They dove over the tracks, colliding with the ground on the other side just as the train took off behind them, almost crushing them. And Race was not phased.
Charlie tried to catch his breath. But he looked over to his right. And there was the man in the mask, staring right back at him.
“Did we lose him?” Katherine asked, gripping at Albert’s arm a little too tightly.
And just as Charlie might have answered, the hiss of his microbots came around them. “Watch out!” Spot warned.
Race tried to turn and avoid them, but they were creating a tunnel around them, attempting to box them in, to crush them. And the tunnel was getting smaller and smaller. “We’re not gonna make it!” Albert cried.
“We’re gonna make it,” Katheine countered, watching Race try desperately to make the car go faster.
It was closing in around them. Katherine and Albert fought back and forth until Race broke out at the last second, sending the car back down onto the pavement. “We made it!” Spot assured, only for Race to gasp when he looked out the window.
He slammed on the breaks. But it was too late.
The car was submerged in water before anyone could blink.
It filled up fast. The water. The car. Charlie couldn’t breathe. He pulled at his seatbelt. It was stuck. He looked over at his brother’s friends who were struggling to get out too.
But when Charlie looked over to his right, he found Baymax’s armor falling to the floor.
Charlie grabbed Race arm. And he pointed up to his brother last possession.
They all latched onto him.
And then they were rising to the surface.
The air hit Charlie fast as he began coughing for air. It was freezing.
But Katherine let out a laugh. “I told you we’d make it!” she stated, reaching over to clasp Race on the back as they all gripping onto Baymax for dear life.
No one else could bring themselves to be that giddy about the situation.
“We should get outta here…” Charlie suggested, looking over at Race who just lay his head down on Baymax’s stomach.
But Albert was the only one to respond, a small smile spreading onto his face.
“I know a place…”

[Chorus]  All:

Madoromi de nijinda smile
Enough that it melts away
With more of that free style
A patterned dyed image
I want to wander ontop of the palette so take your time
A wavering light a single swaying spice
A winding, colorful maze
daydreaming, with no signs of wake
A smile spreads while dozing off

Don’t forget our promise made the other day dancing through the passing days
Suddenly, the illusion dissolves in a brillant manner
Again, a plentiful collection of tall tales
With them I’ll turn over a brand new page
Or not, certainly, that’s a lie

TL notes:
A Shrike is a species of small bird that is carnivorous and hunts its prey by impaling them on twigs or thorns. Its name in Japanese literally translates to “hundred tongues”.
Poker term meaning to make the first bet.
Another poker term meaning to match a bet or raise.
Both terms “straight” and “showdown” are used in poker also. a)       Straight refers to a hand of five sequential rank cards or when used with an amount, indicates that the speaker is referring to the total bet, versus the amount being raised. b)       A showdown is when if more than one player remains after the last betting round, the remaining players expose and compare their hands to determine the winner or winners.
Pinzoro is the highest roll you could get in the game Chinchirorin, if you listen to drama track 2 of Fling Posse FPSM, you can hear how devastated Dice was when the others pulled it off.
Cantare is Italian for “to sing”.

Season 1: Next Gen Ninja Episode 2: Green Pastures (Part 1)
*Note: In this episode and onward, you may see Japanese followed by a translation. The translation may not be 100% accurate as Google Translate was used, so we apologize in advance if it was butchered. So please, refer to the given translations. As for why there is Japanese in the first place, it is to signify the difference of language between Ninjago (which would likely have a language similar to that of a mix of East Asian languages) and English. Due to the story being in English, naturally we flipped it to where the 'English' is in Japanese. We are sorry for any confusion.*
"Ah, Ace, it has been a while since you last called," a calm voice came from the other end of the phone, "Is something troubling you and my nephew?"
"Hi Sensei!” She smiled. He wasn’t really their martial arts instructor anymore, but he always used his words of wisdom to teach them something. “Nothing's wrong, but we wanted to see if we could arrange a trainin’ session for everyone's kids."
"I see," there was then the stirring of a teapot, "Have you asked my nephew?"
"Yeah, that’s what ah meant by 'we'."
A teaspoon tapped an unseen piece of ceramic, ".. You seem to misunderstand me. I teach no longer. I have put everything into your team and I am afraid to go further is no longer within my destiny. It is as my father once told me, 'Knowledge is a river. When the first bit of something is understood, it wells up like a spring. From there, more and more knowledge is added by others as tributaries until finally, it is deepened like the ocean.' For I have already contributed to the river as much as I could. It is time that the river deepened."
“Wait.. ya want Lloyd ta replace you..?” She’d known they’d have to teach, but also knew that Lloyd would probably try hard to make it an evenly shared responsibility, as he was not too thrilled about the idea of being a sensei, at least to other Elemental Masters that is.
"It seems that while my lessons took you time to get used to," Wu spoke, "that like a turtle heading for the waves, you found your way in the end."
“Actually it was a lucky guess," she chuckled, “But I’m not sure. I’m scared he’ll freak out if I ask him."
"Does he not already teach other children to defend themselves?" her former sensei spoke, "For I had taught him all that I could so that he may teach others. It was his choice after all."
The girl sighed and went to put the phone down. “Ok, one sec, I’ll ask him."
Lloyd was waiting for her to return. Standing where he was before she went to take the call, he was now on his phone texting. Most likely texting his other friends he had trained with about having their kids train together. Upon hearing his wife approach, he looked up, "Hey Ace, what'd he say?"
“He said..” she nervously rubbed the back of her head, “He wants you.. ta be their sensei..”
Lloyd texted something quick, putting his phone away afterwards, "But I never trained Elemental Masters before! I mean, how do I know if I'm doing it right? Like sure, I've taught some martial arts to kids but it's not like I ever had to train ACTUAL ninja! I just…" He sighed, "I don't wanna mess up. I messed up things before, as I'm sure you're aware. Plus, the guys were wanting to hang out while the kids trained and well.. seeing as I don't have an idea what I'm doing, I will probably need their help.."
“So..what shall I tell him..?” She looked at Lloyd, expecting that response.
Lloyd looked away, staring into the kitchen as if it had suddenly become interesting. It took a moment, but he turned to her and spoke, "What do you think? Do you think that we can do it or that we aren't ready to?"
“Well..” she too, took a moment to think before speaking, “I didn’t think I was ready ta do lots of things.. like I wasn’t ready to admit that I loved you.. but I knew that if I waited til I was ready, the moment could pass..” she then looked at him, “I think we should."
"Then.. I guess the guys are gonna have to change their schedules, huh?" Lloyd playfully smirked, "Plus, what's life without a challenge?"
“It’s like a video game that’s too easy. Boring," she also smirked, knowing Lloyd loved anything to do with video games. She wasn’t good at them herself, but a relationship is, among other things, compromising. She liked to mention them whenever she could, just so that she could see the excited and also proud smile it would bring to his face.
And on his face was proud and playful smile, "Yep. Good thing difficulty settings exist. Now go tell Wu we'll all do it, as a team." At this, he made a fist in the air, seemingly already pumped up. Putting down his arm, he gave a more affectionate look to Ace, "And before you go, I love you too." With that, he gave her a kiss on the cheek and got his phone out, back to his normal self, "So while you do that, I'll explain the plan to the others."
Feeling his lips press gently against her cheek, Ace let her pale, shortbread coloured skin flush red. At least on her face. Not like she had a choice. But there was a time when she might have tried to hide it. But now, she felt there was nothing she ever had to hide from Lloyd.
Smiling, she picked the phone back up. “Ok, we’ll do it, but Lloyd said he’s only in if we do it as a team!” She smiled, looking back over at Lloyd.
"Well, as they say, 'Brothers in arms are brothers for life.' But, if you require any guidance, I shall be here," the old man spoke, "Perhaps I may visit when the tea is slow to sell."
“Well it’d be nice ta see you again!” she smiled on her side of the phone.
"Indeed," the wise man may not have been seen, but the nod could be felt, "I wish you well in your endeavors. May the Golden Dragon shine upon you all." With that, he hung up.
Putting the phone down, the girl turned towards Lloyd and smiled happily, “So, what’s for dinner?” Lloyd did most of the cooking, as ace had never learned how. He had taught her a few things, but they were working their way up to big meals. Ace still remembered how proud she was when she made her own English muffins, and even more so how proud Lloyd was of her. It made her feel warm inside to know that she could go at her own pace, and not only would he not rush her, but would stand by her side with an encouraging smile.
"Well," Lloyd looked to her, "Ninjagoese or British? Plus, we have to think about what the kids will eat. As let's just say, I personally know how picky kids can be sometimes." Lloyd was largely known for hating vegetables when he was physically younger, that is before his age became perhaps one of Ninjago's greatest mysteries, yet he has eaten them without much retaliation since he had grown both mentally and physically.
“Well, what are our options?” She tilted her head in thought. Not realising how adorable Lloyd found this.
Lloyd crossed his arms, looking to the floor in thought, being silent for a few moments before speaking, "Off the top of my head I know we can do noodles, rice with chicken and other toppings, sushi, and whatever British things you know we can make." He looked to her, "I mean, you can ask the kids too if they have any ideas."
“Well..noodles sound nice!” She smiled, being a picky eater herself, it was a good sign when she liked something. As that’d often be one of the only things she’d eat. “But.. since Lucas had a rough day, why don’t we let him choose?”
"Alright, you wanna ask him what kind of noodles while I fix you some?" Lloyd always made sure to accommodate Ace, as while most of the family will eat meat, she was understandably a vegetarian, as of course with her powers she was used to hearing the words of animals that to others would just be noise. "If so, tell me what you want on yours," Lloyd added, so if she did get Lucas he could get started.
“Just plain is fine," she smiled, already excited about eating them. Thanks to Zane, Lloyd's cooking was top-notch! Plus making food for his son, daughter, and wife, he’d had lots of practice!
As the small woman made her way up the stairs, she looked around the hall, smiling to herself as she passed all of the drawings Luna had done that they’d pinned up. Sometimes Luna would draw potential video game characters that she and Lucas had made up together! So even though Lucas hadn’t drawn anything, an expression of both their talents sat proudly on the wall.
“Lucas?” She called out gently as she knocked on the door before opening it.
Lucas was staring at a bunch of code on the monitor, elbow on the desk as he looked between what was there and the open coding book under a desk lamp in the corner. He often did this to get away from the world. "Yeah?" he responded after a few seconds.
“What d’ya want for dinner?” she asked him softly, walking in to give her beloved son a quick hug. For his sake or for hers? Well.. admittedly a little of both. It killed her to think about her son upset, and she wouldn’t feel better until she knew for certain that he did.
So slowly, and gently, she gave him a warm, caring hug.
Having been given an unexpected hug, he seemed almost uncomfortably squished for a second before relaxing with a heavy sigh escaping him, hinting at the turmoil in his mind, "Onaka ga suita no ka wakaranai.. (I'm not sure if I'm hungry..)" This was one of those times he'd slip into English, as being bilingual he'd often find himself slipping into English or Ninjagoese at a whim. Usually he spoke English when he was frustrated, with the benefit of no one but his parents knowing when he was giving an insult. Today, it seemed whatever was going on in his head was driving him into speaking the first language that came to mind.
“...Ah ya sure..? Not even a little..?” as always when one of her children was upset, she spoke with a soft and gentle voice, “Not even ta see ya family…?”
Turning to face his mother and going back into Ninjagoese, having realized he had changed languages earlier, "I guess. I just.. didn't have a great day and I'm worried that I made Luna think something was wrong. I mean, I deal with bullies all the time, I'm fine, right? After all, no one has gotten hurt and it's been this long.."
“Well..I think she was just worried because your dad told her you got to come home early. She probably just worried that something more serious had happened. Ya know how much she cares about ya," her lips seemed to curl into a small smile of encouragement.
"Yeah, I know," Lucas sighed, "I guess in a way I don't want to seem weak to her and let her down. Plus, it's not even like the one serious thing that happened was on purpose! In fact, I don't even know why my Golden Power kicked up when I was in art class, after all, I seemingly blacked out and set my own desk on fire before coming to. Whether the teacher believed me was another story." Lucas had mumbled the last part as he remembered that story, he was in 3rd grade when that happened and no one really understood why yet, just that it may have something to do with the fact that Elemental Masters have a tie with their powers through their mind.
“Well.. the element of fire has a pattern. Like all elements do. Which is that certain traits tie into them from the person who has the power. With fire, it’s passion. Were you passionate about what you were drawing or painting?”
"I don't know, I blacked out," Lucas sighed, "But Dad never blacked out from using his Golden Power so why do I? Plus, my own powers barely even work right.."
“Well..maybe ya great uncle Wu might know? He’s very wise. Plus when it comes to elemental powers,he knows everything there is ta know! We could visit his tea shop on a quiet day," just like his mother, Lucas was easily overwhelmed by crowds.
Lucas gave a small nod, "Alright, but first, what's for dinner?" He looked to his mother, his mood a bit better, seeing as he was willing to eat, "Besides, I'm getting tired of staring at this code. I'm having a problem with connecting to the physics engine and haven't figured out why yet."
“Well, we’re thinking noodles, that sound good?” she smiled at him, not knowing a thing about coding.
"Yeah," he smiled and nodded a bit, then gave a concerned look, "Are you going to be alright if I have it with chicken? I mean, I know you're my mom and all, but I don't want to make you upset."
“Yeah," she chuckled slightly, despite feeling a little nauseous, she was delighted that her child was so considerate. When others around her ate meat, as they so often did, she’d simply avoid looking and think about something else. As long as they didn’t make a mess of it, she’d be fine. Though she still remembered that one time that Jay put a chicken on his hand and made it dance around. She spent a while in the bathroom with Lloyd holding her hair back, having instantly thrown up at the sight of it.
"Thanks," Lucas smiled a bit and got out of his desk chair to go draw instead. While doing so, he placed the bracelet of Benchstone in a desk drawer for later. "If you don't mind, I'm going to draw a bit," he looked to his mom, "unless you need help with dinner?"
“Well it’s not me that’s cookin’. But you’ve had a rough day, you stay and draw," after a gentle ruffle of his hair, she headed back downstairs.
"So what did he say?" Lloyd asked from the kitchen, currently trying noodles while preparing the soup to put said noodles in, "Also, do you know what Luna wants?" At this point, he has had so much training, he practically knows when anyone enters or leaves the room and who it is, all without looking up.
“He said he wants noodles with chicken. I haven’t asked Luna but she’d probably want the same." Luna believed just as her mother did, that all animals had a right to live, but as a child, she was difficult with her food. She figured she’d probably become a vegetarian when she was older and a little more mature. But right now, as long as she didn’t think about it too much, she loved chicken!
"Alright, wanna watch the noodles while I deal with the chicken?" Lloyd asked. He often did this as a way of teaching Ace to cook, taking things one step at a time. However, when it came to meat, he always dealt with it himself for his wife's sake. Plus, he did like showing off how well he could use a blade, another thing he could thank his training for.
At this point, she seemed to go a little pale. “U-uum..” she was very uncomfortable around a stove, anything in a pan for that matter. She was so sure she’d slip up or burn herself..
"Don't worry, I just need to make sure they aren't burning," Lloyd replied, sensing her hesitation, "Plus, I'll be nearby if anything happens."
“H-how will I know if they’re burning..? W-will they go a certain color..?” What a stupid question she’d just asked..
"Yeah actually," Lloyd answered, "They'll turn dark and hard instead of off-white and wiggly. Think you can do that?" By this point, Lloyd had already got the chicken out of the fridge and began to season it.
“Uuuh..o-ok..” Yeah.. if they started to burn, she could just tell him! He’d sort it no problem! She then internally thanked the Golden Dragon that he was so understanding. No matter how stupid the question, he’d never scoff, or laugh. Just smile, and answer.
*****
"Guys! Wash your hands, dinner is ready!" Lloyd called out. He was proud of the progress Ace made with learning how to cook. Truth be told, he was glad he got to teach her what he knows, to him it was a way of bonding.
As for the kids, Lucas took his time to get ready to eat, he was never really in a rush for anything, unlike his dad who pretty much lives for an adrenaline rush. He was also the quieter one, so it would make sense that he would take his time after all.
However, Luna seemed to practically fly down the stairs, more than ready to eat.
"Alright, so I got some exciting news for everyone!" Lloyd spoke up as everyone began to eat, "So you know how I told you two that you were training tomorrow?" With this question came a set of chopsticks pointing at the children at the table, some noodles in their grasp as the noodles made their way out of the bowl.
"Yeah?" Lucas tilted his head a bit as he looked at his father between his helpings of noodles that his own chopsticks held.
"Well, looks like tomorrow morning you're meeting the rest of your team for your first training session!" Lloyd excitedly announced, he hasn't seen his whole ninja family in a while and couldn't wait to see how they were doing! They were always close to one another back when they themselves were in training, despite the sarcastic comments and fart jokes.
“Yeah! You get ta learn spinjitzu and make some new friends!"
This caused Luna to gasp in excitement. “Really?? Yay!! What are they like??”
However on the other end of the spectrum, was Lucas with pure panic on his face. He never really had good encounters with others his age and got well… a bit protective of his stuff. Clearly, alarms were ringing in his head.
“They’re very nice," she calmly told them, to make the poor child feel better. Truthfully, she wasn’t sure what the children were like. But the parents were practically family. “Brothers in arms” as Wu had called them.
"Besides, we know their parents well," Lloyd added, knowing how Lucas could be at times, "So if anything does manage to happen, it'll be sorted out. As for where you're all meeting, we haven't decided yet, so do you two have any input on that?"
The children both shook their heads, Lucas being an introvert and preferring to stay home, not knowing the city well, and Luna just unable to think of anything.
"How about you, Ace?" Lloyd asked his wife, wondering if she had any bright ideas they hadn’t thought of. For Lloyd knows that Ace has seen the kinds of ideas they have unsupervised, sometimes great ideas, but usually crazy ideas. At times, it's almost surprising that they didn't get seriously injured.
“Well..what about the old monastery? We could clear the rubble and pieces of the building that ah still standing out of the way, and use that space? Plus if it starts raining we can put up a big tent," she shrugged, stuffing her mouth full of noodles.
"And there might still be some salvageable components in Jay's hidden training course invention the others told me about," Lloyd added, "So he may be able to rebuild it if he has the right parts."
"Excuse me for interrupting," the oldest child spoke up, "but didn't you tell Luna and I that your other teammates said they barely had enough room for them? So how do we expect to have over double the amount of people? It's not like mountains grow in a day."
“Interesting point..” Ace muttered, going silent as she thought some more.
After a second, an idea flashed in Lloyd's mind, "That's it. We grow a mountain!"
By the look on Lucas' face, he didn't quite follow. In fact, no one else probably did. This usually meant this was one of the ideas that fell into the "crazy" category.
"I was once told that I could move mountains right?" Lloyd looked to the table, having forgotten about his bowl of noodles for the moment, "So, therefore, if Lucas has Golden Powers, he can do the same thing! All we got to do is figure out how to set off that particular aspect of his powers."
Feeling his father's eyes on him, Lucas mumbled as he put his hood up, "Nande watashi?... (Why me?...)"
“Yeah, can’t you still do that?” Luna looked at her father, kind of unclear on the situation.
"About that," Lloyd looked to her a bit nervous, "no. I gave up my Golden Power so the other could use theirs naturally. So, it'd have to be Lucas at this point. Sorry." While Lloyd didn't regret his decision to help his friends, there were times that it didn't help a situation, such as this one.
“Well.. is there any other solution that would put less pressure on Lucas..?” Ace looked at Lloyd, concerned for her son, knowing that in this fragile state, he’d probably crumble under pressure.
"Well," Lloyd thought for a minute, "that would entirely depend on if it's in Cole's range of abilities. If not, we'd have to make two separate trips to the Temple of Light, which may take a few days at least. By that point, they might not get a chance to train until later."
“Why don’t we just hire a community center?” Luna tilted her head, not understanding why they were complicating things.
"Wait, hold up, that's a thing?" once again, Lloyd's lack of experience with the world strikes again. Funny how he can make the impossible look easy, but has no clue how most of society works, that is at least to the people who know about the fact he didn't really have time to understand society. He then turned to Ace, practically clueless but trying to not look like an absolute fool, "If that is in fact a thing, why didn't you tell me earlier?.."
“I wanted to see what other creative things you’d think of," his beloved wife told him with a smirk.
Lloyd then got quiet, speaking in meet mumbles, suddenly remembering his noodles, "Thanks, but now I look dumb.."
Lucas gave a sigh, partially from relief as he put his hood down, "Kono kazoku dake de.. (Only in this family..)"
“I don’t think ya look dumb," she told him in reply, “I think ya look cute."
At this, Lloyd had begun to blush a bit but decided not to mention it, "Uh, thanks. Most people would just use the word 'childish' though."
“Well, I’m not most people."
With this, Lloyd smiled a bit at her, starting to feel better before seemingly wiping away whatever emotions were in his head, "Ok, but what about weapons training? I'm pretty sure they don't want a bunch of kids with swords."
“Wooden swords?” she shrugged.
"Maybe you can use it while you try to find something better?" Lucas then suggested, then a bit nervous at the fact he'd have to be at whatever place they choose.
"Great idea, Lucas!" Lloyd practically beamed, "I'll just have to work things out with the guys after dinner. Speaking of which, we better not let it get cold." With that, he began to eat faster, occasionally glancing out the window, feeling seemingly watched but with no evidence.
*****
In the morning, Lucas found himself woken up by a knock on his door.
"Lucas, get up, training starts soon!" the voice of his father rang out. Of course his father would be waking up him early, his dad already wakes up before dawn anyway. It was likely he was heading to Luna next, judging by the footsteps.
"Luna, time to get up for training!" there was the knock and call that Lucas waited for.
With a sigh, he got up and began to change and get ready for the day.
Groaning, his sister followed, yawning as her hair stuck out all over the place.
"Sleep well?" her brother asked in the hallway, while he may not have wanted to wake up this early, having Energy powers kind of makes it difficult for him to be truly tired. "To be honest, I was having a nightmare," he mumbled afterwards.
This seemed to wake his sister up, as she ran over to him, practically grabbing him by the shoulders. “What happened?!”
"Anxiety but worse," Lucas sighed, "You know, everyone gathering around you as they say mean things to you as well as pressuring you. Just the typical nightmare of anxiety." Lucas then shrugged, "But it's fine. I can handle it. Let's just get this all over with."
“You don’t sound fine..” she muttered, highly concerned, “Just cuz something doesn't physically hurt, doesn't mean it’s fine."
".. I'll be fine," he looked away for a second then back at her, "Plus, Dad's expecting us to be ready, so unless we want to disappoint him, we better hurry."
Luna let a frown befall her usually cheery expression. “He’ll understand," she sounded almost angry, “Now, unless you wanna worry your family, maybe you should let us help." It was rare that Luna would speak so sternly, and she’d NEVER do so to Lucas, but this was not the first time he’d said something worrying, then said he’d be fine.
Luna's powers allowed her to hear things all over the house, even if she didn’t want to. Which made sleeping at night time very tricky. Her room was right above the kitchen, which is where her parents used to talk about things at night.
And it was becoming increasingly clear that they were very worried about Lucas. Especially their mother. She remembered it very clearly. She remembered hearing the words: “What ah we gunna do?! My baby is hurtin’ and I can’t help him!!” She remembered very clearly thinking that her mother was crying. And if he continued to say everything was fine, nothing was going to get better. They couldn’t fix a problem they didn’t know about.
“Please, Lucas," she started again, this time a lot softer, “We just wanna help."
As their mother had mentioned, all elements had a pattern. Energy included. Yet what made Energy different also made it more dangerous and hard to handle. For Energy's pattern was stubborn determination, so much so that it could end up being their downfall in the end. Lucas, while an atypical Master of Energy, was still one all the same.
"Luna, I'm your older brother," Lucas began before sighed, "I'm supposed to protect you, yet you keep protecting me. Besides, my problems aren't ones that anyone else can solve. I just.. haven't found a way to solve them yet, ok? Just, have faith, alright? They say the Golden Dragon helps the hopeful after all."
“B-but..we’re creative thinkers! Maybe if you told us, we could think of a way to help in some way! And if not..at least do something to help you feel better..like getting your favourite ice cream or something."
As a happy-go-lucky child, Luna didn’t really understand that not every issue is black and white. But even though she might not understand sometimes, when she knew her family were upset, she’d often stay up all night trying to think of nice things she could do to cheer them up a little.
"Luna," Lucas looked to her caringly, "I really appreciate it, but I have to work this out on my own. I get it might not seem right to you, but some issues can only be dealt with by the person who has them. So, if you really want to help, you'll give me the time and space I need to solve my problems, ok? But don't worry, I'll still be there for you, I just have to sort out my problems on my own time."
The usually lively child fell silent. Had she made him mad..? Her brother didn’t want her near her! Believing this, was it any wonder she started to snivel?
"Luna, please don't cry," Lucas tried to calm her, "I didn't mean anything harsh by it.." He may not have known why exactly his sister was sad, but he was in no way trying to upset her, "I just want you to know that I'll figure things out while I help you, ok?"
“B-but I wanna help you! ..A-a-and that made you mad! Y-you d-don’t want me around..”
"Luna, I'm not mad," Lucas shook his head, "I never said I didn't want you around either. What I meant is that I have to figure this out on my own. That doesn't change how I feel about you. Now come on, let's head down, alright?"
“B-but..I-I wanna make you feel ok again..” the child let out a rather loud sniff as she started to calm down.
"Then, maybe we can do something together later, ok?" Lucas compromised, knowing she likes spending time with him, no matter how little he thought of himself.
“O-ok..b-but only if you want to..” she had to be helping him! Not the other way around. Just so happened, their company made each other happy. Most of the time. Luna just had to make sure that this was one of those times! Yeah! She’d grab his favourite snacks, and his favourite movie! He was going to feel better in no time if she had anything to say about it!
"Of course," he smiled and bit, giving her a gentle hug, but something seemed off. It was like after a while he wasn't really there. She had seen this before.. he had a black out. What power this is, well, who knows if she wants to find out?

Joker recaps [3/3]
[tw: mentioned csa, suicide, obvious-murder-case-related-deaths, questionable treatment of the trans character]
----
Before Ryuuguu reveals his solution to the case, he asks Kirika to explain the locked rooms first.
First, the Stage of Light surrounded by snow. While everyone assumed it’d been the murder scene, the Artist actually killed Ryousho and Fuumonji somewhere else, and later flung an axe and some frozen blood to the Scene from one of the towers. The ice was melted once the reflected sunlight hit the Stage of Light, and the blood with anticoagulants would flow around like it was fresh.
Second, how the Locked Room was filled with water. The murderer must have created a thin wall made of ice that separated the majority of the room from the part near the door, filled the bigger part with water, closed the door, and simply waited until the ice melted.
Ryuuguu interrupts Kirika as he wants to talk about who the Artist is before revealing the last few locked rooms (although he still has no clue about the head in a helmet).
The key to the case is a certain theme that showed up each time a body of a writer was discovered.
Flowing blood. A mandarin orange. The yellow Room of Judgment. A weeping fig. Water. An indigo carpet. Amethysts.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. The colors of the rainbow.
Like the rainbow, niji, contained in Nijikawa’s name.
Nijikawa killed seven other writers and himself, resulting in eight sacrifices. Even if his room was guarded, he could’ve just employ a simple psychological trick (a G.K. Chesterton trick, as Ryuuguu calls it), casually walked out, and the exhausted police officers would just think they hallucinated it, or fell asleep for a second and only dreamed about it.
What pushed Nijikawa Ryou to murder? It’s too late to discover the truth. The answer will forever remain in the shadows.
The curtain has fallen.
Everything ended.
--
--
The curtain was brought up once more.
--
“It was a magnificent case, Mr. Ryuuguu,” says someone from the dining hall’s entrance, and it’s only now that everyone notices the two men standing there. One is Tsukumo Juku, his long hair and sunglasses instantly recognizable, and the other is his assistant Hikimiya Yuuya.
Kirika asks just how long the two have been standing there listening.
“Since about five pages ago,” Juku answers.
“You’re going to investigate too?” a police officer asks him.
“Forgive me, but I cannot do that… since I’ve already solved this case.”
Juku then takes Nemu along and leaves for a few minutes to check a few places in Geneijo, and Hikimiya takes a moment in the library to count something in Dakushoin’s manuscript, but soon everyone gathers in the dining hall again.
Juku finally announces the Artist’s name: Satou Ichirou. One of the police officers thought to be dead in the case. Juku doesn’t explains anything just yet, instead saying that he’ll continue his reasoning after the meal.
Once the meal is done, Juku says Satou Ichirou was NOT the Artist, and while Juku’s very sorry to tarnish the name of the dead like that, he had to say it so he could observe everyone’s reactions to the news during the meal. This allowed him to make sure of the murderer’s identity.
The Artist isn’t any police officer, or any Geneijo employee, or detective, or Tae. It is someone already dead.
But before the reveal, Juku tells them that there was something that everyone missed. If you transcribe the first kanji of every murdered writer’s real name and put them in order of their deaths, you’ll get:
Ka-rei-naru-(h)o-tsura-kuno-tame-ni. “For the Great Downfall”. There should be a ‘bo’ instead of ‘ho’, but that was exactly what the symbolic dakuten was for.
As for who is the Artist... Nijikawa was unlikely to do a rainbow-themed crime, as he was likely colorblind, just like his daughter Megumi. The latter fact was easy to guess: just like it was noted in Dakushoin’s manuscript, Megumi looked at Wasserman’s innocent painting of a castle and saw a monster. Wasserman seems to have put a few secrets in his paintings that could be noticed only by a colorblind person like him… and anyone who would just happen to be always wearing sunglasses.
Juku shows everyone a suicide note signed by Nijikawa that was found in Tae’s room. The writer of the note shortly describes the crimes, claims that he wanted to poison either Miyama or Dakushoin but it went wrong, and that he didn’t kill Megumi. He wasn’t trying to fulfill the 30 elements at all. He recalls the event from when he was a child and his father, a mystery writer, murdered his wife in a drunken rage before his son’s eyes, and later fell from the stairs and died while attempting to chase the terrified child. Since then Nijikawa believed the mystery novelists were monsters desensitized to human death. He decided to infiltrate the ranks of mystery novelists and enact revenge. But soon he realized that he turned into his own father, and so chose eternal slumber.
But if we assume this note was really written by Nijikawa, then it shouldn’t be found in Tae’s room.
Everyone gathered is losing their patience a little, so Juku announces the name of the Artist:
Miyama Kaoru.
--
The note found in Miyama’s pocket said “boku mou TAErarenai”, but as far as Juku knows from reading the manuscript, Miyama only ever used the pronoun watashi. So even if it was written by Miyama, it wasn’t Miyama’s suicide note, but a fake one that she intended to put next to Nijikawa’s body.
Miyama’s death wasn’t suicide, but neither was it a murder. At the time of her death at 3 am, Miyama happened to be in the middle of arranging a scene of Nijikawa’s “suicide” for later, standing on a chair and tying a noose. She couldn’t have predicted that a sudden earthquake would make her lose balance in the most unfortunate way possible.
But before she died, Miyama still managed to arrange Dakushoin’s death: she put a thick sheet of ice on top of two taller statues, towels on top of that, and Dakushoin drugged with sleeping pills on top of that. The ice eventually melted, making Dakushoin fall and get impaled on another statue.
Nijikawa’s death, on the other hand, was simply suicide.
Megumi’s death was accidental. She slip and fell after being startled by… something (Juku carefully doesn’t elaborate, but Ryuuguu suspects that the ‘something’ may have been Shouri knocking on the door, and Juku doesn’t want the boy to blame himself.) She hit her head on the floor, and the impact made the flower pot fall off the shelf and hit her again. Since she broke her left wrist falling, she had to use her right hand to write the message.
As for that upside-down painting of Mother Mary, Miyama as a Christian just couldn’t help but make it look proper.
Since Miyama was good enough in baseball pitching to teach it to Shouri, it would also make her able to accurately fling the axe and frozen blood to the Light Stage.
Dakushoin brought attention to facts like that in his manuscript, almost like he knew and desperately wanted someone else to realize the truth. In fact, there was a random poem inserted after the scene of finding Megumi’s body, and the first syllables of each line made the sentence “ko-no-ka-ba-tsu-ha-shin-ji-tsuwo-tsu-ta-e-te-i-ru...”, “this Kabatsu [a shortened name of the manuscript] is conveying the truth”. Similarly, reading the names of each big chapter of the sadly unfinished manuscript revealed a message: “Han-nin-no-na-ma-e-ha” (“the name of the culprit is...”), proving that Dakushoin knew the truth.
The message was so well hidden that only someone specializing in reading the intention of a writer would be able to find it.
But wait! There’s more. Juku shows everyone the 99 cipher and points out a tiny line near one of the numbers. If you read the numbers left-right, top-down (so in the normal Western manner) and stop at the line, you’ll have read 82 numbers, exactly how many numbered subchapters there is in Dakushoin’s unfinished manuscript. The prologue had 4 subchapters, the 6 normal chapters after that had 13 subchapters each. Dakushoin probably wanted to write another ‘prologue’ and another chapter afterwards, which would bring the total of subchapters to 99. One for each number in the cipher.
If you write down the title of each subchapter in hiragana and pick the consecutive character the number in the 99 cipher points to, and also read it backwards, you’d get a message…
[missing part] Kare wo sodateta tokushuna kankyou ga kare wo shite renzokusatsujin he to hashirashimeta no de aru. Nijikawa no shi ha jisatsu. Ta no hankou ha kare naraba jyuubun ni ji(tsu)kou ga kanou de aru.
Translation:
[missing part] Unusual circumstances in which he grew up pushed him to serial killing. Nijikawa's death is suicide. If the other crimes were [commited by] him then this could be an accident.
Of course Dakushoin couldn’t know about Nijikawa Ryou’s future death – who he meant by ‘Nijikawa’ here was Nijikawa Megumi. He correctly assumed that Miyama would be able to kill everyone else but not the girl. He wasn’t that off on the ‘suicide’ part, since Megumi’s death was technically caused by her own actions. Dakushoin probably didn’t know about Miyama’s gender and so used the incorrect pronouns. If he had a chance to write the last 17 subchapters, their deciphered titles would probably directly accuse Miyama Kaoru.
--
But the case reaches much, much deeper than that. Dakushoin was smart, but wasn’t able to notice a certain astounding series of coincidences. The events of the case – the way Dakushoin wrote it, even – were all foreshadowed a thousand years ago in the famous work The Tale of Genji.
Out of 53 chapters of The Tale of Genji, each one’s title was somehow referenced inside Dakushoin’s manuscript. Some are more obvious (aoi, kirigirisu, sakaki…) and some are deeply convoluted worplays on details like what exactly the characters ate or what was the name of a random police officer’s girlfriend that was only ever mentioned once. [Juku spends entire pages going through FIFTY THREE CHAPTER NAMES and explaining whatever horrible pun is related to it. It’s kinda amazing.]
When everyone is still stunned, Juku says that from this moment on even he’s not sure of his reasoning, but he believes he knows the truth. He turns to Teru and asks:
“Mrs. Mamiya, wouldn’t Miyama Kaoru happen to be your and Kirigirisu Tarou’s child? Or should I say, your and Hirai Genji’s.”
Teru can’t deny that. She guessed that Kirigirisu was her Genji, but decided to keep quiet. Hirai Tarou admits he knew about Miyama’s true identity too, but couldn’t recognize his brother after all these years.
Since the man was named Genji, then he obviously could name his child Kaoru, just like the legendary Genji’s child was called. The pen name ‘Miyama’ is fairly close to ‘Mamiya’ as well, as if intentionally chosen. Miyama apparently knew the identity of her mother. After Genji and Teru split, they left the baby in Geneijo, and Hirai Tarou had to give it up for adoption. Maybe Miyama’s motive was a revenge on Geneijo itself, the place in which she had been so profoundly rejected.
--
After everyone but the detectives leave the dining hall, Juku adds that, intentionally or not, the Geneijo case managed to fulfill all the 30 elements from Dakushoin’s list.
The others think that maybe if they were as capable as Juku, they could prevent the last few tragedies… but even as they thought about the past, they had to keep moving forward and finally leave Geneijo behind.
Hoshino Tae leaves Geneijo too, having both lost and learned so much.

On 31st December that year, a day before Tsukumo Juku is supposed to leave for England, he returns to Geneijo carrying flowers for the dead.
He’s not the only one there. The First Group’s leader Yaiba Somahito is already waiting there in silence. After some pleasantries Yaiba says that he checked the Geneijo case files once more and noticed that Dakushoin had been found to have terminal stage cancer. The man truly put the rest of his life into his writing – for the sake of a grand downfall.
As an aside, Yaiba also contacted Dakushoin’s editor and learned that there was some other book planned that Dakushoin’s sister Nagisa was supposed to be writing under a weird pen name, “Seiryoin Ryusui” or something like that.
Yaiba and Juku stand in silence for a few moments before Yaiba asks:
“Tsukumo, why did you lie that Miyama Kaoru was the Artist?”
“What do you mean, Mr. Yaiba?” Juku’s voice is still beautiful, but without its usual warmth.
Yaiba shows him an envelope with a message saying just “Please help me. TEL”. TEL was Teru’s signature. She knew Yaiba and tried to summon his help, but Yaiba returned to Japan from a case too late to read it in time.
Yaiba explains in a voice full of sadness: “Miyama Kaoru was mine and Mamiya Teru’s child. 22 years ago, my family was employed by Geneijo. My father was the butler before Kosugi Kan. When I was 12, Mamiya abused me. Since I know from her that Hirai Genji wasn’t able to have children, only I can be Miyama’s father.”
In The Tale of Genji, Kaoru wasn’t actually Genji’s biological child, but was fathered by another character, Kashiwagi. Kashiwagi was also the last name Yaiba once had.
Yaiba is convinced that Juku’s meta-reasoning told him the truth about the case and he just disregarded it in favor of a fake explanation. Yaiba’s only question is why. Was Juku protecting the actual culprit? There was obviously someone else who could commit the murders – the only other person who trained their baseball pitching well enough: the butler’s son Shouri. That’s why some tricks seemed childish. That’s why Shouri was hanging around in the greenhouse before a murder was committed there.
Juku finally admits that the true culprit of the case was Kosugi Shouri. But at the same time, this wasn’t the truth. Shouri may have been the “perpertrator”, but it’s unthinkable a boy like him would come up with the entire plan on his own. There was a mastermind; a frightfully powerful someone.
This case is truly unsolvable. Finding a solution would probably require them to unravel the strings that hold the world, the story and all the mysteries together, would take some sort of divine reasoning.
Dakushoin knew about it too, and put one last clue in his manuscript; maybe even by sheer writer instinct more than actual knowledge. A well hidden “AB ; 10101011” that seems like a random error of the word processor. AB meant 171 in hexadecimal, and 10101011 meant 171 in binary. 171 = i(chi)-na(na)-i(chi). Inai, meaning that something doesn’t exist. There was also a seemingly random part named Kimi~1/2 Hanashi. Kimi ½ = a half of “kimi” [“you”] = half-person = literally a han-nin = hannin [culprit].
Hannin ha nashi = “There is no culprit”.
Lost in thought, Juku looks up at the sky for a long time.
Yaiba still wants to know the ultimate truth, and Juku says that this shall stay a secret between them just like Yaiba’s past. Juku can only give one clue -- the personality of the mastermind can be derived from answering a few questions: who would want there to be so many misdirections and tricks? Who would want there to be a lot of unexpected twists in the case?
Juku adds that after the case was done, Hikimiya led by his detective instinct counted how many times each writer’s full name showed up in the manuscript. 37 for each of them. 37 = mi-na [“everyone”], so if everyone had ‘the same 37 times’ worth of mentions, then maybe the message was that “everyone is the same”. Anyone can be anyone. Maybe it means that all the categorizing of people based on their race, gender and so forth is meaningless; people are in the end just people.
The two detectives finally leave Geneijo and the story.
--
(There is one more chapter after that, called the Phantom Chapter. It’s long and poetically complicated, but the gist of it is that the story rests in the hands of the reader. For example, if a Reader stops reading the book in the middle out of boredom, then as far as that Reader is concerned, the true criminal is someone else. If after long years a Reader will forget the disliked parts, the story will show another face, and the Reader will think the true criminal is someone else.
The last answer bestowed by the godly detective isn't certain. Nothing is certain. Knowing this, the Readers may decide for themselves how they want to explain things. (For example, what if all the misdirections were in fact the signatures of the culprit(s)?)
The truth can be understood only by the reader who – as the narration prompts in the end – uses the 99 cipher to discovered the missing part of Dakushoin’s long message, using the titles of the last 17 sub-chapters of this 99-subchapter-long book called Joker:
Shin-han-nin-ha-da-re-de-mo-i-i-no-de-aru
The true culprit can be anyone.)
THE END

@unfindableauthor
sorta! they're ordered by the gojūon (fifty sounds) system, which is also how words are written in pretty much every japanese dictionary i've seen (heads up– this is not a whole lot of dictionaries. like four or five max).
here are the hiragana that are still in use today (there are a couple that are considered obsolete) in the gojūon order:
あいうえお (a, i, u, e, o - although the pronunciation is closer to ah, ee, oo, eh, oh, respectively)
かきくけこ (ka, ki, ku, ke, ko)
さしすせそ (sa, shi, su, se, so)
たちつてと (ta, chi, tsu, te, to)
なにぬねの (na, ni, nu, ne, no)
はひふへほ (ha, hi, fu, he, ho - the pronunciation of へ is often very similar to え)
まみむめも (ma, mi, mu, me, mo)
やゆよ (ya, yu, yo)
らりるれろ (ra, ri, ru, re, ro)
わを (wa, wo - を is almost always pronounced as お)
ん (n)
you may have noticed that there are some sounds missing. for example, prominent bnha character bakugou katsuki has a name with both "ba" and "go", neither of which are listed here.
this is because those sounds are voiced sounds. to explain what that means, let's first look back to the kana for the ka group, sa group, ta group, and ha group.
かきくけこ
さしすせそ
たちつてと
はひふへほ
now, these kana may occasionally have a symbol by them that resembles a quotation mark. this is called a dakuten, and it makes the kana look like this (and changes their sounds!):
がぎぐげご (ga, gi, gu, ge, go)
ざじずぜぞ (za, ji, zu, ze, zo)
だづでど (da, dzu, de, do - ぢ is very rarely used and pronounced very similarly to じ, so i just skipped it)
ばびぶべぼ (ba, bi, bu, be, bo)
in japanese, these are called muddy sounds, or "dakuon". in terms of gojūon organization, they are grouped with their dakuten-less counterparts (also called clear sounds, or "seion"). there are also handakuon (half-muddy sounds), written with handakuten that turn は (ha) into ぱ (pa), but that's not relevant here so we'll skip over it.
the gojūon system ignores variant kana (the ones with dakuten and handakuten, as well as a couple others i haven't explained here but we'll get to that), but they still have a place in the line-up. essentially, they're treated as being the same letter, although if you're putting them in a line then the unvoiced kana would come first (so ga would come after ka but before ki -> かがき).
now, let's jump to class 1-a.
Tumblr media
let's start with the first column of students (shown here in a row bc english is read horizontally from left to right rather than vertically from right to left):
aoyama (あおやま), ashido (あしど), asui あすい), iida (いいだ), uraraka (うららか)
aoyama is first bc the first two kana in his surname are "a" and "o". if aizawa was a student in their class instead of their homeroom teacher, he would be before aoyama, as his surname begins with "a" and "i".
jumping down to the third line, we see shouji is before jirou. so now i have to explain yōon, or contracted sounds. these sounds are when the ya group kana are shrunk down and placed behind larger i-sound kana, like so:
きゃ (kya)
にゅ (nyu)
みょ (myo)
shouji (しょうじ) has this in his surname, and uraraka (おちゃこ ochako), jirou (きょうか kyouka), and todoroki (しょうと shouto) have them in their first names. seating arrangements are done by surname, though, so only shouji's matters here.
much like voiced kana are grouped with unvoiced kana, yōon sounds are grouped with the first kana that forms them (i think of it as sorta like a parent kana lol –> しょ baby yo with papa shi), so both shouji and jirou have names grouped in the "shi" category, despite neither of their names starting with a "shi" sound.
so the students whose surnames start with s sounds are ordered as follows: satou, shouji, jirou, sero
さ before しょ before じ before せ
this is also why bakugou is behind hagakure - in english, we put b a few letters before h, but in japanese "ba" is just a voiced "ha". since "ba" is a dakuon, it goes after the seion "ha".
so if honenuki was in class 1-a instead of 1-b, he'd be in-between bakugou and midoriya, as ho comes after ha but before any m sounds (は->ば->ほ->み = hagakure, bakugou, honenuki, midoriya). in a similar vein, shiozaki would be in front of shouji (shinsou would also be in front of shouji, although he'd be behind shiozaki).
so the class 1-b seating assignment would likely look like this:
awase, kaibara, kamakiri, kuroiro, kendou (あ->かい->かま->く->け)
kodai, komori ,shiozaki, shouda, shishida (こだ->こも->しお->しょ->しし)
tsunotori, tsuburaba, tetsutetsu, tokage, fukidashi (つの->つぶ->て->と->ふ)
honenuki, bondou, monoma, yanagi, rin (ほ->ぼ->も->や->り)
in other words, hagakure, bakugou, midoriya, mineta, and yaoyorozu are all perfectly positioned to stare longingly out the window, contemplating their past, presents, and futures whilst dramatic music plays.
anyway this has been my essay on reason number fifty-six billion that the traitor should've been hagakure hope you enjoyed byeeeee
reading bnha fanfiction has made me very aware that a not-insignificant portion of this fanbase hasn't realized the kids' seating arrangements are in alphabetical order

BNHA Name Meanings
Hello! So, I really really love name meanings and symbolism in names, and since I’ve already made a ton of posts like this on my sideblog for the Persona series, I thought it’d be a good idea to come over here and make some for My Hero Academia! This is only gonna be Class 1-A for now because there are a lot of characters but I will be doing more of these to cover other characters.
If you have any correction feel free to let me know; I’d be happy to hear them!
A couple of quick notes before I get into this behemoth: I’m including both given names and surname, and the names are written given-name-first with the Latin alphabet and surname-first with kanji. The name meanings come from these specific kanji because some names can have the same pronunciation but different meanings because they’re written with different kanji. They’re in order of their seat number.
Yuuga Aoyama | 青山 優雅
Yū(優) means excellent and superior, and ga(雅) means elegant, graceful, and refined. All words that I have no doubt he would use to describe himself.
Ao(青) means blue or green, and yama(山) means mountain. If both kanji are translated as one word together, their meaning is lush mountain.
Mina Ashido | 芦戸 三奈
Mi(三) means three or third. Na(奈) means hell. The first kanji, 三, can also be pronounced “san” which is the same way that, 酸, the Japanese word for “acid,” is pronounced.
Ashi(芦) means reed, and do(戸) door. Ashido also sounds like the Japanese pronunciation of “acid.” [Thank you to @tsuzascribbles for pointing this out to me! After learning this it prompted me to check out the wiki to see if there was any relevant trivia.]
Tsuyu Asui | 蛙吹 梅雨
Tsu(梅) means plum, and yu(雨) means rain. But translating both at the same time as 梅雨 gets rainy season!
A(蛙) means, of course, frog. Sui(吹) means to blow on a wind instrument.
Tenya Iida | 飯田 天哉
Ten(天) means heaven. Ya(哉) is how you write the interjections “how!” “what!” and “alas!”
Ī(飯) is an old way of saying cooked rice, and da(田) matches by meaning rice field.
Ochako Uraraka | 麗日 お茶子
O(お) is written kana and so it doesn’t have an accurate translation, but cha(茶) and ko(子) translate to tea and child respectively. Ochako, all translated at once, means tea ceremony.
Uraraka(麗) means beautiful and lovely, and ka(日) day. As one word, her name means a glorious spring day.
Mashirao Ojiro | 尾白 猿夫
Mashi(猿) means monkey. Rao(夫) means man.
O(尾) means tail, and jiro(白) means white.
Denki Kaminari | 上鳴 電気
Den(電) means electricity, and ki(気) is spirit. The word 電気 means electrical. If you haven’t noticed yet, some of these names are very literal.
Kami(上) means upper part. Nari(鳴) is to ring. Kaminari is pronounced exactly like 雷, the Japanese word for thunder.
Eijiro Kirishima | 切島 鋭児郎
Ei(鋭) means sharp, ji(児) means newborn, and rō(郎) means son.
Kiri(切) means to cut, another very fitting translation. Shima(島) means island.
Kouji Kouda | 口田 甲司
Kō(甲) means armor, and ji(司) means to rule.
Kō(口) means mouth. Da(田) means rice field.
Rikidou Satou | 砂藤 力道
Riki(力) means power or strength. Dō(道) is translated to path.
Sa(砂) means sand; tō(藤) means wisteria.
Mezou Shouji | 障子 目蔵
Me(目) means eyeball, and zō(蔵) means storehouse. Which make the whole name a storehouse of eyeballs.
Shō(障) is to harm, ji(子) means child. A shōji(障子) is a Japanese sliding door.
Kyouka Jirou | 耳郎 響香
Kyō(響) means reverberation, and ka(香) means fragrance.
Ji(耳) means ear. Rō(郎) means son.
Hanta Sero | 瀬呂 範太
Han(範) means example, and ta(太) means thick.
Se(瀬) means rapids. Ro(呂) is the kanji for spine. Along with these translations, his name is also a pun on “serohantepu,” the Japanese pronunciation of cellophane tape. [If the anon that pointed this out to me is reading this, thank you for the help!]
Fumikage Tokoyami | 常闇 踏陰
Fumi(踏) means to walk through, and kage(陰) means shadow. So a full translation of Fumikage is to walk through shadow.
Toko(常) means everlasting; yami(闇) is darkness. His full surname is everlasting darkness, making this the most goth name I’ve ever seen.
Shouto Todoroki | 轟 焦凍
Shō(焦) means to burn, and tō(凍) means to freeze. Another fun and literal name.
Todoroki(轟) means to roar like “a roaring fire.”
Tooru Hagakure | 葉隠 透
Tōru(透) follows the pattern of literal descriptor names by meaning transparent.
Ha(葉) means leaf. Gakure(隠) is to disappear.
Katsuki Bakugou | 爆豪 勝己
Katsu(勝) means to win because of course it does. Ki(己) means self.
Baku(爆) means bomb, and gō(豪) means powerful, making Bakugou mean powerful bomb because of course that’s what his name means.
Izuku Midoriya | 緑谷 出久
Izu(出) means to leave but also can mean one’s turn to go on, ku(久) means an old story. So a plausible translation of his name is one’s turn in an old story, which could be a reference to his status as the newest bearer of One for All.
Midori(緑) means green, and ya(谷) means valley.
Minoru Mineta | 峰田 実
Minoru(実) means diaper boy truth or reality.
Mine(峰) means rat summit, and ta(田) means bitch rice field.
Momo Yaoyorozu | 八百万 百
Momo(百) means one hundred.
Ya(八) means eight, o(百) means one hundred, and yorozu(万) means ten thousand. So, being a nerd, I looked up how to say really big numbers in Japanese and it turns out that Yaoyorozu is how you say eight million. The kanji in her surname for ‘o’ is the same kanji used for her given name (百) which makes the nickname Yaomomo even cuter to me.
Tada! That’s the whole class! Don’t worry I’ll be coming back and doing other characters if people are interested (or not interested cause I just genuinely love doing this).

Housamo 2017 Christmas Event, first half of Story 1a
Recently, the Housamo people announced that the main story quests (for the currently released chapters 1-6, at least) are going to have an English translation in game. As a result, I’m focusing on the event quests that are outside the main story. Please forgive me, I’ll be starting with the current special event instead of going back to try the earlier ones.
For some reason, the quests are labeled like 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, etc. This post is the first half of 1a. Sorry, there’s a TON of screengrabs, and I’m really bad at this, so I’m tackling it in pieces.
Please accept this first batch--88 screenshots, representing the first half of the introductory quest 1a.

[I can't directly translate ギロリ (girori). Jisho.org thinks it might be a form of ぎょろり (gyorori), meaning staring or glaring? I'm inclined to believe it]

ブラックサンタ?: お前らは。。。 「悪い子」だな? Burakku Santa?: Omaera wa... "warui ko" dana? Black Santa?: You guys... are you "naughty children"?

[The ending 生易しいモンじゃねェぞ (namayashii mon ja nee zo)... I have no idea what that is. In isolation, "namayashii" is "simple/easy"... but I don't know what that katakana モン (mon) is, so I'm guessing at how this "beating you like a drum with my bags" sentence is ending]

Tumblr media
ブラックサンタ?: 逃がすかよォッ!! 喰らいやがれ。。。 Burakku Santa?: Nigasu ka yo!! Kurai yagare... Black Santa?:  Running away, eh? I'm gonna devour you--
[喰らい (kurai) uses an irregular kanji 喰. It looks close to 食 (from taberu, for example), and apparently has similar meanings--to the point that searching on Jisho for "喰 kurai" brings up results for its partner 食 as well.]

Tumblr media
ブラックサンタ?: 「振鐘」必罰、 デア・ヴィルデマン!! Burakku Santa?: [See note below] hitsubatsu, Dea Virude Man!! Black Santa?: "Swinging Bell" inevitable punishment: Der Wilde Mann!
[Note 1: "Der Wilde Mann" is his in-game charge skill.]
[Note 2: The furigana over the 「skill name」 reads "Shinshou". This renders the entire thing as "Shinshou Hitsubatsu", for "sure punishment or reward". However, the kanji for that phrase is 信賞必罰. But they've kept just the "sure punishment" last two kanji. The first two were swapped out for 「振鐘」--which, near as I can figure, is "swinging bell"? Maybe "fu-kane"? Months ago, I started translating the first chapter, and I remember Housamo doing this a bit. They'd provide kanji with one meaning, but then give furigana that didn't actually match the literal kanji, though it would provide insight into the meaning...
Anyway, there you go. They're referencing the phrase for "sure punishment or reward", but pulling out the kanji for Faith 信 and Reward 賞, to replace them with the kanji for Swing 振 and Bell 鐘. Whatever. Focus on how cool this guy looks in his 4-star form, and ignore the weird linguistic stuff]

[Here it is again. The kanji at the start of the second line 英雄 is "eiyu", which means hero. But the furigana over the kanji is ヒーロー, the katakana for "hiiroo" (hero). So the furigana gives you the same idea, but it's not a literal translation of the kanji, just like the charge skill back on part 59. Housamo plz]

Another year will be...
 Hello everyone.
in the next few days I will be turning a year older. Yes, OLDER. Thinking about it gives me goosebumps. We cannot escape reality. All of us will turn a year older somehow, one way or another. Do I have a choice? That’s life’s gift. Makes you appreciate that you live another year. Pasalamat ka pa naabot kag isa pa ka tuig.
Anyway... I am writing my blog because I want to share my reflection as another year has been added. Before that let me share something that neither my closest friends ever knew about this. I was not a wanted child. In short, I was not planned nor expected by my parents. At that time, when my mom gave birth to me, she was already 40 years old. Menopausal na si mama. 6 years na gud ang nilabay after sa akong kuya and here I am. Surprise! Shookt si mother uy. You know what is the shocking part as well? She was planning to dispose me. Basura lang hahahaha. Di bitaw. Denial akong mom na buntis siya bisag kabaw siyang buntis siya. Inom2 kunuhay siyag tambal para as if matagak lang ba naturally. But hahahaha jokes on her! I am strong. Mao gurong buang ko sa?
Why am I sharing this? Wala lang. Because there are numerous times in my life na I was not wanted. Di lang sa nahappen nako since birth, other people doesn’t want me. Narealize lang jud nako. Di jud ni sa pagdrama. Kantyawan gani kos karsada. Bisag di mi close sungogun ko na tambok, majimbo, big show, etc. But I was firm. Wala ko nagpadala. Mao sad sauna katong grade school ko coping nako ang maging bully instead akong ibully until nag highschool. But enough of that. Naabot kog 27 years na ingani ka strong diba? Bisag unsa pa nang panaway sa uban.
Ngano di ka mag diet? Ngano di ka magchange? Well... I have the luxury to eat eh hahaha jk. I don’t know. Seguro ka million times ko na githink but nah. If di ko dawat ninyo, so be it. Anad nako since birth way nidawat nako. Ni mama gani nako wa kadawat nako kamo pa kaha? Now kasabot namo ngano init kay mig dugo sa akong mom?
Why am I sharing this now? Because a lot of things happened to me sa 1 year. Pag 26 nako first time nako mulet go sa akong comfort zone, which ang Sykes. Gibyaan nako akong beloved na TL to try something new. Usa siya sa mga tao gipafeel sa ako na bahala unsa ko ka imperfect, laban lang jud daw. In the process, gibyaan na sad ko sa tao na abi nako dawat pud ko. In the end, he found someone new. Abi nako magbalik mi. Edi tanga si inday wa diay. But I moved on. Ni work kog new environment. Who would expect ma CX ko na nahibawan ra man ko anang ts, unsaun pag connect sa device sa Internet, asa makita ang phonejack, unsay software iupdate etc. I met special people again. They were like a family to me. I don’t know if dawat ba ko nila. But with them, it feels like home. It felt home jud naabot ko diria. Bisag naa pa ning COVID. Iya jud gibabagan akong birthday litse.
Before sad na add akong year, wa ko gaexpect ma in love balik. Pero different sa katong usa. Kanang love na unconditional jud siya. Bisag akong mga best friends wa ga expect hahahaha. But that proves me na nawala na jud ko atong toxic na love. Kabaw ko di ko dawat niya but he made me realize na okay na diay ko. I thought forever ko trap atong toxic na love. But he made me realize na I can love beyond what I had before even without expectations. Mao ra to. Nainlove ko and mao ra. End na dayun. But even if it was a passing feeling... it made me feel the spark of being alive again. Na naa pa diay ko chance magkafeelings balik. Na abi nako si 2 years and a half na jud ko ma stuck up. Thank you.
Diba bongga kaayo before ko nag 27. Before I put behind another year and work on a new year, I want to say thank you. Thank you sa akong mga best friends (Nini, Adette, Carmz, Chang, Ate J, Frances, Kristel, Jade) ug sa mga wa pa na mention. Thank sa new found family sa TDCX na you made me felt at home. Thank you sa akong family, bisag unsa ko kabadlungon naa man gihapon sila most especially to my parents. Thank you papa G for another year. I am excited to be 27 na. I can’t wait to put another year behind. Sige pa ta ani? Laban!
I will end this with a quote, “ Sometimes, people use age as a convenient excuse. Life isn’t about your age. Life is about living.”
