The Cost of Loyalty

After more then a year I finally got to the point I decided to share the keypoint of Zach's lore. Because he's part of my lil universe for a reason... and oh boy, it did hurt a lot to take these screenies 🥲

⏳ Timeline: The Beginning. Before Hogwarts. Before Cass even set a foot on her grandmother's manor.

The stone was cold.

It pressed against his knees, rough and wet with old rot.

The door groaned open again.

Heavy leather boots struck stone.

He didn’t need to look up to know who it was.

Harlow.

“Still alive, I see.”

Zach stayed silent.

“You’ve been rather… stoic. Impressive, even. Your mistress certainly formed a true soldier. I’ll grant her that.”

The toe of Harlow’s boot nudged his ribs.

“I don’t know who you think I am,” Zach replied, voice low and even, “but clearly, you’ve mistaken me for someone who gives a damn about your theatrics.”

That earned him a dry chuckle.

“You’re clever,” Harlow murmured. “And loyal. But loyalty’s only useful when it’s pointed in the right direction, yeah?”

Zach finally looked up, eyes sharp. “Is that what this is? A job offer? Forgive me if I’m not exactly leaping at the chance to serve under a greasy halfwit with a God complex.”

The spell hit without warning — a flash of red, unyielding and searing. Pain ripped through his spine like a burning wire. His vision flickered. Darkness crept at the edges.

But he didn’t scream.

He wouldn’t.

The pain subsided. Zach exhaled slowly, jaw clenched, breath uneven.

Harlow straightened, brushing imaginary dust from his lapel.

“Oh, I think you will, Boniface. Because somewhere in that cold little brain of yours, you’ve already figured it out. You’re not getting out of here. Not alive. Not whole. Unless…”

Zach raised his head. His voice came sharp, unwavering.

“You can curse me. Beat me. Bleed me for hours.”

He spat on the stone between them.

“But I am no traitor.“

Harlow paused for a second. Then smiled wickedly.

“What you don’t know,” Harlow continued, “is that your little mission was pointless. We dealt with the parents. Sloppy of them, really — hiding out in the mountains like sheep. Thought silence would keep them safe. Fools. But the girl….”

His tone shifted, darker now.

Zach’s attention snapped into focus, gears turning. A girl? Mrs. Montague had never mentioned a child. But if she was truly Augustina’s heir…

His orders were clear.

“What‘s the deal?” he asked at last, voice flat.

“Ah, finally. There he is,” Harlow laughed coldly. “It’s simple. Your life, in exchange for the Montague heiress.”

He stepped closer, eyes gleaming.

“And all I need from you… is your word. A vow.”

One of the most underrated jokes from Game Changer has to be Zach Reino's improvised newsie joke of "Extra, extra, read all about it! The fish are gone."

It knocks me out laughing every time I watch the episode. I cannot imagine a funnier headline to come up with for a local newspaper.

And the fact that he somehow managed to tee up the next joke for Zeke by cosmic coincidence is just *chef's kiss*.

Long promised. Finally got round to it.

May I introduce: Zacharias Boniface - Cassandra's former tutor, the devil's right-hand man and Sebastian's personalised nightmare 😂

Hair color: pitch black

Hair style: slightly wavy

Accessories: He often wears sunglasses (even indoors). Eyes are the mirrors to the soul and he doesn't like having his mind read.

Other distinguishing features: Scars. Quite a few. But I won't reveal where just yet.

Traits: loyal, protective, direct, outspoken, dangerous

Likes: Parties and dances. Absinthe. A well-tailored and well-fitting suit. Kneazles. Good food, preferably home-cooked.

Dislikes: Snooty business partners (and competitors). Winter. Sebastian Sallow.

Hobbies: brewing potions and experiment with different ingridients.

Fears: to loose the trust of the Montagues, specially Augustinas since she is kinda a mother to him. Or at least some kind of parental figure. Loosing Cass.

Tracking and hunting down people

Backstory

Zacharias is the son of a muggle-born witch whose parents were strictly religious. When they realised that their daughter could work magic, they turned to a Roman priest.

However, the priest they approached was not a good man. He persuaded the parents that their daughter needed to undergo an exorcism - but in fact, he was actually abusing her.

She became pregnant with Zacharias, but died in childbirth. Zacharias then grew up in a monastery.

During his youth, he repeatedly showed that he had inherited his mother's magical powers. But he was unable to categorise these phenomena. When he finally found out that his mother was a witch and his father the priest, his magic manifested itself to an unprecedented degree and caused the church where his father preached to burn down.

(Zacharias himself is traumatised by his childhood and suffers from selective amnesia. This means that he remembers the fire that he started, but not his difficult childhood).

At the time of the fire, Augustina Montague was on a business trip to Rome to buy cursed relics at auction. When she learnt about the magically gifted boy, she decided to take him in. Zacharias learnt to control his magic under Mrs Montague's tutelage and over the years became her most important hitman and right-hand man. On a risky mission in enemy territory, however, he was caught, captured and tortured.

After this incident, he intensified his knowledge of potions. Shortly afterwards, Augustina's granddaughter appeared at the clan's country estate. At Mrs Montague's request, he began to teach Cassandra.

Academics

Zacharias did not attend a wizard school. His curiosity and ambition led him to learn and acquire many things on his own. The rest he learnt from Augustina or on the go on missions (Augustina has a more practical approach).

Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025)

Final Destination: Bloodlines has one scene of emergency vehicle strobe lights, lasting about 3 or 4 minutes, and beginning immediately after someone suffers an open-brain injury. There are some mild to moderate electrical effects, as well as flickering flames, in the final scene of the movie.

While all of the camera work is either stationary or very smooth, the opening sequence takes place at extreme heights. There are a couple of brief shots taking place inside a moving RV.

Flashing Lights: 6/10. Motion Sickness: 6/10.

TRIGGER WARNING: This film has loud jump scares and very bloody and gory death scenes. These include, but are not limited to a degloving injury, various impalements, graphic bone breaking, and close-ups of the processes of a tongue piercing and the application of a tattoo.

I knew jumping on commissions from @theartingace was a good idea — just look at Ash and Zach! This seriously captures them so well: the height difference, the smiley vs serious, the fantasy elements with the horns and the ears… !!!

Final Destination Bloodlines

Summary: College student Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) returns to her family after having recurring nightmares of a disaster involving her grandmother to try and save them from their gory fates.

Tony Todd scene highlight, callbacks to previous films not obnoxious. Overall refreshing take on series, even if the CGI's embarrassing.
