Okay, look. In show, Sokka dated 2 people, and neither time he really asked them out. Just said vauge things and then apparently they were dating. Zuko is oblivious. I'm just saying that Sokka would 100% do the same things, assume they’re dating, and Zuko wouldnt think anything of it.

I think it would go a little something like this.

Z: So, it’s been a while, and you don’t have to accept if you don’t want to, I get it, and if it makes you uncomfortable we can just forget this ever happened, okay?

S, (thinking it’s a proposal): what is it?

Z: I…. Would you go on a date with me?

S: ……

Z: I’ve liked you for a long time, and uncle has kept telling me to just ask, so i figured… uh…

S: ………….

Z: …sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking. Just- forget about it, ok?

S: …you’re joking, right?

Z: ….no?

S (startled laughter): oh, oh spirits. You’re not joking?? What the fuck. Tsu and La what the ever loving fuck.

Z (bristling): look, if you don’t want to you can just say no, but this feels excessive.

S (grabs zukos face): Zuko, we’ve been dating for years.

Z: …what.

S: literally what the fuck, it’s been over 2 years, our 3 year anniversary is in a few months.

Z: I- what?????

S: Zuko, how in the ever loving FUCK did you not know we were dating????

Z: I- why did you think we were??

S, (dumbfounded): because I asked you out and you said yes???

Z: I DONT REMEMBER THIS???

S: it was at the fire festival? We watched the fireworks together?? We stole a boat and went out on the lake after just the two of us???

Z: we- we borrowed that boat…

S: I love you, but what the fuck, man???

Z: you…. you never asked. To go on a date.

S: no?? I litterly did???

Z: you asked if I wanted to go to the festival with you. I said yes. You asked if I wanted to go on the lake. I said yes. You asked me if I wanted to go to your room after and make the worlds worst pillow fort. I said yes. You never asked if I wanted to go on a date.

S: …….oh spirits you’re an idiot.

Z: what??

S: that is exactly how you ask someone on a date. You just described me taking you on a date.

Z: …….oh.

S (snorting): yeah, oh.

Z …….so is it a yes?

S: it already was, you moron. Spirits, I love you.

“I’m considering running away from my arranged marriage,” Zuko confesses. Something in the boy’s eyes makes Zuko want to tell him the truth. At this point, he doesn’t have much to lose, anyway. “Arranged marriage?” The boy’s lips twitch. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Prince Zuko.” (or, Zuko is freaking out about not having met the man he is supposed to marry soon, and his panic leads him to a cute stranger)

Tbh my personal headcanon is that Zuko and Sokka got together when Zuko was a widower.

I'm not super proud of this lineart - I was exeprimenting with my brushes A LOT.
