At the sound of that name, Caesar suddenly felt cold despite the blazing Mojave heat. Looking up, he saw that figure from out of his nightmares standing on the ledge above. Bandages ripped from his face, his bared teeth still stained with Lanius’ blood, his shadow thrown dark over the man below him.

Caesar tried to scrabble away, casting desperately about for a weapon. Graham leapt from the ledge and seized the front of his tunic, hauling him up as though his burns had not diminished his terrible strength, but instead heightened it.

Their faces an inch apart, Graham’s voice thundered like a death knell into the warlord’s ears.

“See now the fruit of your labors, Edward Sallow. Look upon me!”

Caesar looked into the eyes of the visage that had haunted his dreams. But this time it was no illusion—the hideous specter of his nightmares had found him in waking hours at last, full of rage, full of fire.

A single word escaped the warlord’s lips.

“Mercy!”

Felina winced, as did everyone. The snap of Caesar’s spine echoed around the silent, crowded dam, like a dry branch being broken. Graham picked up his weapon from where it had fallen and pointed it at the crumpled figure before him.

“Cast this thing into the river!”

Happy Ides of March! Also accompanied by what might happen if Joshua was at Hoover Dam 2.
