For those comparing how Belinda was treated to how Martha was treated: Martha at least had the opportunity to openly anger the Doctor, and she chose to join the Unit because she wanted to, not because she was waiting for Kate to call her while she was hanging on a doorframe. Martha hurt the Doctor, at least a little bit — not that Ten cared — but that was a thing. She didn't suffer an imposed destiny and was happy and content, even though it wasn't what she wanted.
