What broke me the most this ep was Chris saying “you’ll be my dad again” (something like that) as if he hadn’t been his dad all this time. Eddie’s been raking himself over the coals because all he wants is to be Chris’s dad, and he’s felt like he failed him. And now Christopher phrases it in a way to makes it seem almost like Eddie chose to stop being his dad instead of how we (and Eddie) see it with Chris deciding to leave. A huge perspective difference.
It’s the classic “you left” vs. “well, you let me go.” Eddie felt like he couldn’t (and was told he shouldn’t) chase him. Maybe Chris wanted to be told no. Or he had instant regret but didn’t feel like he could say so bc Eddie let him go.
I think it all boils down to how we all felt when it initially happened. The 14 year old shouldn’t get to call the shots, and the grandparents shouldn’t be able to override the parent, who is both competent and loving. Eddie got steamrolled when he was vulnerable, and bc he felt so guilty that it gutted his dad self-esteem, he let something happen that wouldn’t normally have been a consideration. The Diazes weren’t swooping in to rescue a child from a dangerous situation, a neglectful parent, or extreme hardship. They took him from a loving home where mistakes happen, but they’re recoverable bc of unconditional love.
I think this scene shows that it’s been hard on both of them, and much like Eddie had to hide his true feelings growing up there, Chris has too.
Which is one of the possible reasons they’ll be back in LA before long. Eddie needs to get him back where he can be himself.

Me: I just think it’s interesting that the last time we saw Eddie in LA he was wearing a muscle tee, guns out, and now all the promo pics of 8x12 have him in shirts buttoned right up to the neck. Something something Texas represents restriction and limitation for Eddie whereas Buck and LA represent freedom
my cat, being forced to listen: I am a cat please make friends.

“I don’t have to fuck Eddie just bc I have feelings for him, and just because I slept with YOU doesn’t mean I have feelings for you.”
And that’s just like. Canon. Buck said that canonically to his ex-boyfriend. & we’re just supposed to be normal about that?????

Buck's dismissal of him being into Eddie because "He's straight".
BUCK. THAT'S NOT A NO.
Classic linguistic giveaway of a lie is when someone is accused of something and either counters it with evidence it couldn't be true, or questions why someone would even accuse them. (Ie: "Why would you even ASK me that?")
Instead of a simple refusal.
'No' is one word. It's easier and comes to mind much more quickly if it's the truth.
"You think I'm in love with Eddie? I'm not!" would have been easier. But he can't say it. Cause it's not true.
---
Side note: it's fucking wild that buck used the phrase "in love with Eddie?"
When NO ONE said he was in love with him.
Tommy said he was competition. That's all. Buck added everything else. He connected the dots really quickly after that. Almost like it's occured to him before.
Tommy said 'it felt like I was competing with Eddie for your attention' and Buck rebuttal 'but Eddie's straight! I can't be in love with him!'
Buck Buckley is the best at telling on himself.
Tim said he didn't want to do the 'queer person in love with their straight best friend's thing. But he's not. Cause Eddie ain't straight.
Tommy was right about Buck and scoffs at the idea of Eddie being straight. Like him or hate him his gaydar seems pretty reliable.

I still feel like I hallucinated the last 9-1-1 episode, and I’ve seen it four times front to back top to bottom. Like. Buck really unconsciously said he had feelings for Eddie. Also meanly implied he didn’t have feelings for Tommy. Tommy fully insinuated Eddie was NOT straight. Tommy literally admitted that he saw Eddie as competition. Buck said Eddie’s name FIFTEEN (15) times, most of which happened while attempting to befriend Ravi (justice for Ravi). Buck called Eddie straight. twice. Buck said the words “In love with Eddie?” OUT LOUD.
That episode is so fanfic-y, I cannot believe it is actually fucking canon??
Anyway, I don’t know what doing hard drugs feels like, but I imagine it feels a little like how I felt when Tommy said “now that the competition is out of the way.”

Imagine loving a guy so much you almost kill yourself to find his baby boy in a tsunami, you claw at the earth when you think you've lost him forever, you crawl under a fire truck to drag his bleeding body to safety with an actual sniper shooting your way, you accept the fact he put you down as his boy's legal guardian in case he dies with barely a protest, you agonise when he quits being your job partner, you take said son to the zoo all the time, you get jealous like a dog pissing on a tree when he has a new friend, you're there when he begs you to fix something you can't fix and you can only hold on to his shoulder to try and shoot the pain, you go to him the second some ugly man dumps you, you throw a hissy fit about him leaving to Texas and sabotage his house showing, and then, you cave. You cave and you give up your housing situation to help him, you move into his house and you let him go. You let him go because you love him that much.
And he looks at you like you set his world on fire and built it back anew, and you hope he looks through the rearview as he drives away, hoping he'll miss you half as much as you'll miss him.
He will. You were struck by the same lightning, you'll forever share a heartbeat.

C /o: people who say Buddie is impossible after Buck's line about not being in love with Eddie.
HAVE WE SEEN THE SAME SHOW?!?!
It strikes me as very weird and unrealistic that any watcher (and especially Buddie fans) would react in this way. I see exactly two possible explanations for this:
1. Low media-literacy
Taking a character's statement at face value without questioning it is very naive, especially in the context of admitting you're in love with your best friend. It disregards potential motives for lying or wanting to withhold information, the possibility that you are in denial or haven't figured it out. Negating something does not mean the topic is not intentionally highlighted. The screenwriters put it there for a reason and negations build tension while also preparing the audience, so an epiphany does not seem too sudden or random.
("Don't think of elephants" makes you think of elephants and "I'm not in love with Eddie" makes you think about Eddie and love)
2. Anxiety
If you feel like you have to obsessively collect and take into account everybody's opinion - that is anxiety talking - and it will make you crave reassurance even more (but it will never be enough for long). That being said, if you're anxiety-ridden, block the Bucktommy hashtag - your mental health will thank you. Forbidding yourself to have expectations and hope is a trauma response and reading weird Bucktommy takes is exactly what will feed the anxiety gremlin in your brain.

THE STAGES OF TOMMY
1. Clocking Eddie as gay and pursuing him by taking him to Vegas etc. Probably feels like it's working bc Eddie acts smitten af when he's talking to Tommy on the phone at work.
2. Realizes there's a thing between Buck and Eddie because Buck gets insanely jealous and possessive.
3. Doesn't buy that Buck wanted HIS attention and not Eddie's but "lol never say no to kissing a hot firefighter. Let him project his Eddie feelings onto me, sure"
4. Breaks up with Buck because he'll always loose to the competition (Eddie)
5. "Oh?! Competition gone?! Eddie's in Texas?! I'm immediately interested again."
6. "Is this Eddie's house?"
7. "Let's try again, with Eddie in Texas I might stand a chance (even though we had sex in his house, where you live now, because that is not weird at all)"

I think the catholic guilt set-up makes it more likely that repressed gay is the one they'll go with. Also, they pulled the "huh, not straight after all" thing with Buck already. But I totally see your points too and will pay extra attention when/whether they'll drop the "(not) gay" word in relation to Eddie - because that makes it way more identity-related rather than just "has/has not the capability to be in love with Buck", which is exactly what the show needs to make it a well-formed story AND character arc for both of them.
with all the emphasis on “eddies straight” i do think his canonical label will end up just being “not straight”. like heavy agree w everyone saying the show does not have the time or nuance or writers to really unpack what eddie being gay means for him and his former gfs i think one episode he will be called straight and he will say what if im not and that will be the canon of it

i know we're all talking about buck burrowing into eddie's shoulder and the smushed ears and for good reason but i don't think we're talking enough about how eddie is leaning his head against buck's. like he's the one actively smushing their ears together.

Drunk Buck: Let's call Eddie and show him what he's missing! Drunk Ravi: Oh, hell yeah! Let's show him you have a new bestie and don't need him anymore! Eddie: Uh Buck? Drunk Buck: Why would you leave me, Eddie? I need you. Eddie: Buck, let's talk in the morning when you're sober. Where are you? Drunk Buck: Ravi, where are we? Drunk Ravi: We're at Sally's! Eddie: I'm guessing he means Sully's. I will have someone come get yo- Drunk Buck: But- but- we're not done drinking Eddie: You're done for the night, Buck. Both of you are. Drunk Ravi: You're not our dad! No matter how many times I've wanted to call you Daddy. Eddie: What? Drunk Ravi: What? Drunk Buck: Hey! Don't flirt with Eddie! He's mine! Eddie: Buck, I am not yours. Drink some water and wait for your ride. Drunk Buck: I love you. Eddie: Ravi: Eddie: What? Drunk Buck: I love you. Eddie: Buck, you're drunk; you don't mean that. Drunk Buck, hugging Bobby: Pops! Did you come to get us? Bobby: Eddie called me. Come on, let's get you two home. Drunk Ravi: Okay, Daddy. Bobby: What? Drunk Ravi: What? Bobby: I want you both to hold my each arm. Bobby: Eddie, that you? Eddie: Yeah, Bobby. Thanks for taking them home! Drunk Buck: Bobby! Ask God how I can get Eddie pregnant. Bobby: I would ask what you're talking about, but I'm scared.

Tfw when men do that thing where they pretend they have no control over their temper. LOL It’s so funny like am I supposed to pretend that I don’t know you’re completely self-aware and present during this rage performance. Or should I pretend you’re the tortured hero in a movie, possessed by a series of fabricated flashbacks of the war and your father
