Sneak peek chapter 13 - Scars

Hello beautiful people! here is a short sneak peek of the upcoming chapter of Scars:

We rounded another corner, and Daryl held up his hand. We saw walkers, slowly shambling toward us. Daryl began counting silently with his fingers, ready to signal when to engage.

But before he reached three, the prisoners broke rank. They surged forward, yelling and flailing their weapons. It was chaos.

They swung wildly, hacking at the walkers' torsos and limbs, aiming everywhere but the brain. One walker lunged at Big Tiny, who barely managed to hold it back. Tomas and Axel stabbed and punched at its stomach like amateurs, accomplishing nothing.

The scene was so ridiculous I couldn't help but scoff, rolling my eyes. "Boys," I muttered under my breath, the word heavy with exasperation.

Stepping forward, I approached the mess Tomas and Axel were making. "Move," I ordered, pushing past them. I raised my knife and drove it straight into the walker's skull. Big Tiny staggered back as the body crumpled to the ground.

I moved on to Oscar and Andrew, who were kicking another walker they'd cornered.

"Step aside," I said, my voice sharp. They quickly scrambled out of the way. Crouching, I gripped my knife tightly with both hands and buried it in the walker's forehead. It went still instantly.

Standing up, I turned to face the prisoners, my patience wearing thin. "I thought I was pretty clear about why we don't break rank," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm.

Rick and the others joined me, their expressions matching my frustration. "You were," Rick said curtly, his tone as sharp as his machete. He looked at Tomas and the others. "Don't do that again."

And welcome to Gianna's story. Gianna, 19, had once lived a normal life—loving parents, a safe home, and friends. But one night changed everything. Her father came home drunk, his anger turning to violence. She didn’t understand why, but it never stopped. His abuse, both physical and emotional, became routine. "Stop crying. You're not a little baby," he’d sneer, teaching her that pain was something to endure in silence.

Her mother, too afraid to intervene, turned a blind eye. Then, just as Gianna turned 18, her mother was diagnosed with cancer. Chemotherapy left her weak, but against the odds, she began to recover.

One night, her father came home drunk again. The yelling, the violence—it was nothing new. But this time, he pulled a gun. The shot tore through her leg.

She blacked out and when a strange man woke her up in the hospital, her life would never be the same.

Right now I have published 11 chapters, the first few are a little shorter but these days I like to have chapters of at least 10.000 words.

This story is about Gianna finding herself and finding where she belongs en the people she belongs with. Daryl is her love interest. It's a slow burn, both Daryl and Gianna have not known a lot of genuine and healthy loving relationships so it doesn't come easy for either of them.
