Because the theme-making community deserves to come together and build a strong network of cooperation and mutual help, and to fight the lack of active networks that focus on the amazingly talented designers across Tumblr, @baechys , @themehive , and @grangersdesigns took things into their own hands and created CodingCabin, a Discord server made by theme-makers, for theme-makers.
The server is open for each and every theme-maker, established or just starting out.

UPDATE #1: Theme 01
i started working on my very first theme! my vision for this is just a very simple minimalistic header theme, with a sticky navbar. here's what i did today:
general styling of the body
added the header
added the header image and navigation bar
created theme options (header image style - square, rounded square, or circle; customizable links; font options; body width; and colors)
i will be posting updates here whenever i work on my themes, but you can also visit the sideblog im using to test my themes @12demo!
(also, i am using @evansyhelp's theme skeleton as a guide. thanks!)

✧ THEME SKELETON — BY EVANSYHELP.
In the link below, you’ll find a skeleton for Tumblr themes. This is the absolute bare bones. No styling, no scripts, nothing fancy; just the fundamental essentials that every theme code needs, to spare you the time of putting it all together with every new project, and to give beginner theme-makers the leg-up they need to get started. Please like or reblog this post if you find this helpful. Credit isn’t necessary but it’s always appreciated!

hello tumblr. i've been on this hellsite on and off since 2014. i've had many different accounts and been on many different sides of tumblr: the personal/just using it for memes side, the fandom side, the gay side, the grunge aesthetic side, the ed/depression side, the studyblr/langblr side, and the feminist side (may or may not be in order). throughout my time, my favorite part has been tinkering with my blogs' themes. i'd spend hours looking for a theme that's Just Right for my blog, and then spend even more time editing the code to personalize it. and then i'd do it all over again because i'd find a better one. i loved being creative with it and challenging myself.
now, i'm on the theme making side of tumblr. i have zero background in coding/website development besides the years i've spent on the "edit html" corner of tumblr. i figured, surely i could make one from scratch if i try hard enough, right? so here i am, challenging myself to make 12 tumblr themes all from scratch. why 12? i just think it's a cool number lol.
that's it for now. happy coding!
