Americans, I know we're going through it, but why do I keep seeing stuff like "I'm sorry world, we'll fix this in 4 years"? But like... what do you mean "4 years"?
We have midterm in 2026, yearly local elections, special elections, primaries, etc.
We have the right (dare I say responsibility) to contact our representatives and the right to organize and protest if/when they don't listen.
We need to find a meaningful way to educate people about propaganda and media literacy. We need to convince people to be willing to educate themselves. The habit of only checking in to politics on presidential election years needs broken.
I understand how defeating today feels, but we, especially those of us who could conceivably make it through these four years unscathed, need to stop this proactive surrender.

Time for Citizens to Hit Elon with a Privacy Act Violation
Email Template
Subject Line: Civil Liberties Complaint
Hello,
I am making a civil liberties complaint under the Privacy Act of 1974, 5 U.S.C. § 552a. It has been brought to my attention that Elon Musk and his associates, under the guise of a directive of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) (an IT office in the White House), have acquired access to Treasury Department Records in Systems of Records as defined in the Act. As an individual covered by the Act, I believe that there may be records about me in these Treasury Department systems, and I am concerned for the following reasons:
Elon Musk is not an elected official.
Even if Musk were an elected official, the System of Records Notices (SORNs) governing the Treasury Department Privacy Act systems do not allow for disclosure to Musk and his associates per the Routine Uses.
Disclosure of personally identifiable information (PII) and sensitive personally identifiable information (SPII) to Musk and his associates would be an unauthorized disclosure and therefore breach of information.
The Treasury Department must (1) quickly investigate what Privacy Act records that Musk and his associates have unlawfully accessed, (2) reveal to the public what unauthorized disclosures were made, (3) stop further access, (4) force any files acquired by Musk and his associates to be returned and/or permanently destroyed, and (5) seek criminal penalties against Musk and his associates for violations of the Act.
Sincerely,
[INSERT NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION]
Privacy Act of 1974
The spirit of this law is rooted in presidential drama and corruption. It was passed as a direct result of the Watergate Scandal which uncovered the federal governmentās scheme of illegally investigating and maintaining records about individuals. So in an effort to provide transparency to the public and an assurance that the government would not misuse records about us all, the Privacy Act of 1974 was born.
Multiple unions have now filed a lawsuit against the Department of the Treasury and the Bureau of the Fiscal Service under the Privacy Act as well as other privacy laws. They are seeking a civil remedy in the form of a restraining order to prevent DOGE from accessing records. But the Act also allows for criminal penalties to be assessed. The two that could apply to Musk and his associates include:
āAny person who knowingly and willfully requests or obtains any record concerning an individual from an agency under false pretenses shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined not more than $5,000.ā 5 U.S.C. § 552a(i)(3).ā
āAny officer or employee of any agency who willfully maintains a system of records without meeting the notice requirements of subsection (e)(4) of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined not more than $5,000.ā 5 U.S.C. § 552a(i)(2).ā
The first applies to Musk accessing Privacy Act records from the Treasury Department under false pretenses of carrying out official government duties.
The second could apply if Musk creates a system of records in the DOGE office without complying with the law. For example, if he began using his IT office role to create records about individuals in the government or who receive government assistance, that would be a violation. It is very likely we will need to demand an investigation into DOGE and what they have on US citizens, too.
Email the Treasury Department today with the template up above. We deserve to have our privacy protected, and some loser who isnāt even from this country shouldnāt be allowed to stomp all over our rights.
ELON MUSK IS STAGING A COUP AT THE US TREASURY!!! He has not right to be there, no authorization for what he's doing, no oversight. AND THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS INSTEAD FOCUSING ON DICKFACE'S INSANE GAZA COMMENTS.
Write emails. Call your senators. ALSO, TODAY, MARCH. Every Us capital city in every state. And if you can get to DC or are in DC, hit the streets.
#stop musk#elon musk#us politics#coup#american politics#do not let them distract you#he has our social security numbers#he has our user data#he has our bank account information#resist

uhhhh sorry about last night yāall. anyways: eco-terrorist enjolras.
donāt get me wrong i love fics where les amis have their meetings about. general injustice? however. you canāt tell me that enjolras wouldnāt take one look at people tying themselves to trees, committing arson, and sabotaging oil pipelines and Not join in.
like. this man would have to have a bail fund large enough to buy a private island.
(this wouldnāt be accurate at all but i think itās really funny if marius joins because he meets cosette and she has a very nice garden and he wants to impress her so he joins the first eco activism group he meets)
musain is a flower shop they meet in the back of
grantaire as a tattoo artist who goes over to draw the flowers and somehow gets roped in to joining bc of course he does
#i miss tattoo parlor and flower shop aus#and i want enjolras to commit actual crimes#les mis#enjolras#les amis de l'abc#les miserables#enjoltaire#cosette#marius pontmercy

the end of les mis is so fucking good. like, yeah we just turned this whole ending around from a feeling of tragedy and profound loss to one of hope, interconnectedness, and an understanding that the bounds of human love and the innate bonds in the rich tapestry that our lives are woven together into exceed even death. that loss will not stop the future, because the memories of those who dreamed of change will always live on. and this all is achieved in like 20 seconds before credits roll.

A Thought:
in a world where valjean does not wait until his Literal Deathbed to tell cosette about his past, he inadvertently raises a tiny little acab baby. somehow, this leads to her meeting enjolras, much earlier than when she meets marius in the brick. and look, i know canonically women werenāt allowed in les amis but. let me have this okay?
so, cosette works with enjolras (maybe even pre-formation of les amis?) to solidify her ideology, and jvj also gets roped into this (doesnāt want to make cosette upset lol), offering enjolras a more⦠realistic? view of some of the issues enjolras wants to address.
idk i donāt really have any other thought but!! one day jvj comes downstairs to see cosette and enjolras talking abt something and realizes he has TWO blond anti-royalist children.
anyways bc jvj helps them more they all survive and live happily ever after :)

okay the interesting to me about les mis is that the main conflict between valjean and javert can be summed up in one line from literally the first song: āmy name is jean valjeanā
like. thatās its! thatās the whole thing! more than just introducing his name to the audience, jvj is asking javert to see him as human, as more than just his number and prisoner/convict status. but as we the viewers know, this is not compatible with javerts rigid worldview of prisoner vs officer. he only ever really refers to jvj by his number (or by his title monsiuer le maire, but thatās a different conversation), thereby reducing jvj to his crime. and by doing this, javert doesnāt have to recognize that there are or can be extenuating circumstances that drives a person to crime. it allows him to avoid the cognitive dissonance of himself being born in a jail, because since he does not have a number, he remains human, remains innocent.
of course, this all falls apart once jvj saves his life, and we see this in javerts suicide. this is one of the few if not only places javert refers to jvj by name, and even goes so far as to say āitās either valjean or javert.ā either he clings to his old views, in which prisoners are evil by nature and cannot change, or he acknowledges that jvj was right all along to assert his humanity. this song is equal and opposite to jvjās soliluquy, where new experiences in the form of the bishop lift jvj from his status as a criminal. jvj is able to overcome this internal conflict because he has always known he was somewhat innocent, while javert cannot overcome this internal conflict because he has spent his entire life suppressing his past as a victim of the justice system, being born in the jail cell. perhaps suppressing is not the correct word here, but more fighting to uphold the systems that would oppress him, as the child of two convicts.
to take this a little further, while javert condemns his family, jvj seeks to provide for them by any means possible. itās interesting because in this way, it is javert who is insisting to society that he is human, that he is more than his parents criminal status, whereas it is jvj who is willing to degrade his status as a member of society so that his sister and her children wonāt starve. these experiences have shaped their worldview, and means that they cannot coexist is the same space, and all of this can be seen in one of the first lines in the musical
anyways sorry this really got away from me but i was baking while listening to les mis and got in my feels lol
#les mis#jean valjean#les miserables#javert#ok this is probably pretentious as hell but#iām tired and needed to get this out

I wonāt accept āEnjolras DIIIIED for NOOOOOTHING he was SOOO YOUNGā when Victor Hugo wrote a novel that inspired two dudes to write a musical where Enjolrasās featured song has been used as a protest song across the world for decades now
#enjolras#that kind of pessimism is what those in power want you to believe!#they are the only ones who benefit from believing nothing can ever change!
