Favourite thing about them:

The way he talks. It might just be because of the words and writing style that were used back then. Every story he will go on some grandiose speech about something that will span paragraphs and pages. But if you condense it down, it’s usually just about how much of a galaxy-brain, alpha chad he is. Sometimes there’s a disconnect in the way he thinks of himself and reality, and that’s part of what makes it so funny as well. 

Least favourite thing about them:

See above. 

Favourite line: 

Oh there are so many lines, I have a dedicated folder of stupid shit that Lupin says. Every single time he looks in the mirror and describes about how handsome he is, his inner monologue about how he’s horrified by people who commit tax fraud in full seriousness, his broad shoulders, how car accidents are only for stupid people with his car crashing in the next three sentences, and most importantly, as he would like everyone to know, his very fine figure. 

However, none of those can beat this one.This mysterious “if inspector Béchoux doesn’t love me, then only death remains!” line that was missing in the original French, but was somehow added in this one (1) English version. 

It rattles around in my skull like a coin in an empty jar. I wake up in a cold sweat at night thinking about it. Where did it come from? Why was it added? Why this translation in particular? WHO added it???? The world may never know.

OTP: 

Béchoux/Lupin and Narrator/Lupin. 

nOTP: 

(S)holmes/Lupin- I just don't think their personalities are compatible with each other at all in a romantic sense and I can't see them together under any circumstances- Besides, (S)holmes already has his Watson :^) 

Random headcanon:

The books say he’s of “average height.” I like to think that he’s around 176 cm and is really by no means short. But he has the unfortunate luck of always surrounded by people taller than him. Even highschool detective Beautrelet is described as “very tall” in the books. 

Although it is not uncommon for men to wear fancy dress shoes with heels back then, so he probably makes up for it that way lol.

Favourite thing about them:

He’s just??? such a gremlin???? Especially as Conan. You’d think Kaito would be the resident gremlin, and he is to some extent but Shinichi/Conan is just as much of a gremlin if not even more. He knows he has puppy eyes as Conan and he WILL use them to get his way. 

I actually have a bunch of screenshots from the cel-animation period of the anime saved, they have very big gremlin energy. 

Least favourite thing about them:

I haven’t watched or kept up with Conan in a long time so nothing is coming to mind uhhhHHHhH his cowlick is too biG. Yeah, terrible. Unbelievable. 

Favourite line:

"Is a reason necessary? I don't know why you would kill someone but as for saving someone... a logical mind isn't needed, right?"

brOTP: 

Jigen & Conan! Their dynamic in the crossover movies are just so much fun, also I just really like the Lupin III gang in general. 

OTP:

Same as my answer with Kaito, none atm. 

nOTP:

Hmmm I guess when with Akai or Amuro in particular- I keep seeing those two shipped with Shinichi and/or Conan on Twitter.  

Random headcanon:

Conan has Jigen’s contact information, among other numbers that a normal person wouldn’t have. They don’t regularly talk or text or anything, he just has it. Lupin probably got Conan’s contact from Jigen, and occasionally randomly sends things when he feels like teasing the kid. 

Unpopular opinion:

This is probably not that unpopular???? But I think Shin-chan is a terrible nickname, especially in Kaishin fics.

The Gentleman Thief Aesthetics™. It is definitely because of Kaito that I fell down this rabbit hole of a trope lol. 

Least favourite thing about them:

The skirt flipping gags and the general pervy behavior are just Not Great.

brOTP: 

As of right now, Akako and Kaito actually. I’d like to see more of them interacting beyond just Akako being his fortune teller. 

OTP: 

None atm. I used to multi-ship Kaito with almost every other teen character and was really into Kaishin/Shinkai but I’ve been slowly losing interest in the series in general oop. 

nOTP:

Nothing really in particular. Any ships involving the adult characters of the series ig?

Random headcanon:

I like to think that he’s actually an introvert who needs time and space to recharge. While he does like attention, he also spends a lot of time cooped up by himself, either planning out magic tricks or taking care of his birds. 

Unpopular Opinion:

While I do like how cool he gets to look in the Conanverse, the movies and the more recent chapters, I enjoy his goofier side from the older manga chapters more. 

I like how he begrudgingly goes along with whatever weird things that just keeps happening to him, but he always still genuinely tries the help the people he meets. Best examples are some of the chapters that I really liked but never got adapted in the anime like:

Ch. 5 (The underwater pirate ship)

Ch. 8 (Japan’s most irresponsible prime minister)

Ch. 11 (The boy who bet on the ball)

It’s definitely not as grand as murder conspiracies, exploding planes, museums on fire and whatnot, but they had a lot of heart and gave me a cozy feeling reading them.
