Don Paolo was in love with Layton, not Claire, which is why he became his nemesis.

Observe:

Don Paolo is watching Layton and Claire talk and is obviously pining. The game wants you to believe he's watching Claire, but I think he's watching Layton. After all, stalking Layton from the shadows is what he's known for.

When Claire unexpectedly kisses Layton, Don Paolo reacts with complete shock.

But when Layton smiles and returns the affection, Don Paolo completely deflates.

He is completely focused on Layton, smiling and in love. He barely glances at Claire.

And that's when he starts crying.

He doesn't acknowledge Claire at all. Instead he cries out "LAAAAAYTON!!!"

He's not mad at Layton for stealing his girl, he's mad at Layton for breaking his heart.

So he declares Layton his enemy and vows to get his revenge for making him look like a fool.

Everyone knows the very concept of a nemesis is pretty gay. As the famous saying goes:

"If a rivalry lasts longer than 7 years then you are no longer rivals. You are Gay."

Also, was anyone gonna tell me young Don Paolo wore a purple version of Luke's outfit or was I supposed to notice that by myself?

AU where Clive joins the game from eternal diva

So...the AU goes like this

Clive felt really tired and stressed, so decides to take a rest for a while. He gets a ticket for the opera held in crown petone, but he didn't know about the game of eternal life

Many people came to the opera, mostly rich people. He just stared at the people entering and OH MY GOD IT'S PROFESSOR LAYTON

He was surprised the professor who comforted him came to watch the opera. He wanted to say hi but the opera was about to start so he goes back to his seat

The opera was good, the scenario was good, the actors were good. And...there's a kid who is clapping alone. But wait, the kid looks like his younger self. What a coincidence

And after that the game begins, people who tried to go out all fell down, crown petone is now a floating on the ocean, and there are sharks in the ocean

So Clive goes like 'Wait what I wasn't here for this WTF'

Anyway Clive participates because it seemed impossible to quit. The puzzles were easy for him so he survives

He encounters with Professor Layton but Layton didn't know he was the kid 7 years ago. Clive thought maybe he can say about it later, so he helps the professor first

Clive is interested to Luke, since he has a similar appearance to his younger self. Also Luke thinks Clive as "rich person who came to watch the opera without knowing this was a game", and a kind person

Crown Petone explodes, the boats are heading to somewhere, Clive is still confused about this situation and isn't sure if he'll survive

Okay I don't know what will happen more so I guess I'll end it here

Laytober 2020 Day 6 - Bitter

Stepping away from the OG cast, here’s Lucy!! I have this headcanon that Al likes his coffee like, super dark and therefore super bitter. I imagine Lucy coming into the office in the morning feeling like a zombie and deciding to steal some coffee from Alfendi. First and last time she makes that mistake. Based out of literally nowhere but my own head, here is the 6th prompt of the month: “Bitter”.

I probably should’ve done this one for “London”, which is day 9, but, ehhh.

I am super grateful for the ruler tool in FireAlpaca. It made this piece super fun to draw and super satisfying to finish. I decided to use Layton and Luke’s arrival to the future to describe the third prompt: “City”.

Day two! This one and Day 3 will be posted a little late, since I had a power outage :(

This one is just a re-draw of a screencap for a clip! Azran Legacy is one of the few Layton games I haven’t gotten around playing yet, so this one was a little tricky. However I had lots of fun! I have zero context as to why Layton and Luke are ziplining in the middle of the air, but as soon as I find out, I’ll make sure to let you guys know.
