“The sun illuminates only the eye of the man, but shines into the eye and heart of the child. The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirit of infancy even into the era of manhood” -from Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson

Outsiders lineup no. 2
Finally I’m done with the Outsiders lineup lol. I posted the original one back in September and started it last June 😭
But it’s done and I’m happy with it!!

y’all have seen the Evie drawing before, but the rest should be new I think lol. I drew most of these ages ago but yk. I like em now! The fact that so many months passed between each of them does mean the style is slightly different for each character, and the heights/scale are kinda bogus but i tried to be consistent istg

I’m a firm believer that Darry owns a leather jacket.

Do you think Ponyboy ever tried to wear Johnny’s jacket? Like a couple years post canon he was moving stuff around and maybe packing for college and he saw it again, still neatly folded and gently placed. Do you think he maybe picked it up and just held it for a minute? Maybe he held it close and ran his fingers over the intricate stitching and he felt Johnny with him. Maybe he swung it around and pulled it on and looked in a mirror and it just felt so wrong. It wasn’t right on him. It didn’t look right on the body of a boy who grew older than 16. It didn’t look right not on the small and scared kid that was Johnny Cade. Ponyboy probably tried so hard to be ok wearing but he just couldn’t. He didn’t get it though, he wore Dally’s old leather jacket all the time, why couldn’t he wear Johnny’s? Why did it hurt so bad even after all this time? Would it hurt like this forever?

I recently just reread the outsiders and decided to draw all the characters based on my interpretation! They’re a mix of both the book and movie. The outsiders is literally my favorite book so I hope I did them justice. <3333
…
I want to keep making art of them so if y’all have any ideas lmk!

there’s something so important to me about the part of the twttin dance scene where ponyboy takes his jacket off and puts it on mark and tells bryon he’s in shock. and it’s not from ponyboy’s point of view, so we don’t get to see his thoughts: how he knows what mark is going through because he went through it himself when johnny died. to when they found johnny in the park, his face bleeding from the socs’ rings. pony’s thinking how he’s not even that close to mark and doesn’t even necessarily like him all that much but mark is his friend, and oh god, is he about to lose another friend? he thinks how wow, this kid laying here on the asphalt bleeding looks a little like dally did that night he died. a little crazed and a little scared. he’s thinking all these things as he takes dally’s leather jacket with the burned sleeves off his own back and lays it over mark while they wait for the ambulance, and he looks at bryon, at mark’s best friend and pseudo-brother looking down at the kid, and pony wonders if that’s what darry and soda looked like when he passed out in the street the night their friends died.
