When a character bucks up or arches off the surface they're lying on in pain- no matter how limply they've been lying there, the sudden spike of pain has their muscles tensing and contracting to send them reflexively lurching up.

Erik (whumpee) goes through a lot. He gets beaten up by boys his age and nobody does anything. They also torture him by throwing hot and cold water on him witch leads to burns and hyperthermia. At home he has an abusive father witch whips him. His father thinks his son is bad for the family when he is the abusive father. In revenge he then kills Erik's dog. The series has looooaats of whump. You should watch it. Thanks to anon for introducing this series to me and us. Hope you like it<3

Thinking about whump where caretaker just can't do anything :(

Everything's been done to deal with the injured/sick character's condition, they've been given the pain meds they're allowed (maybe none at all, depending on the condition) and there's nothing left to do but wait out their suffering. And it sucks. They're uncomfortable, poisoned, sick, hurting, whatever; but there's nothing to be done about it and they just have to sit there with a frown on their face or tears slowly sliding down their cheeks. Maybe they try to sleep restlessly. Maybe they're grumpy and irritable and just want to go home. Maybe they're in the hospital and they hate the constant monitoring. All caretaker can do is hold their hand or stroke their hair, hushing them with soothing reassurances that 'it'll be over soon' and 'I'm here' or even an 'I know, I know.'

Everything sucks, but at least they have someone there to wait it out with them :')

whether they stay calm without a sign of worry or tremble with fear at the possibility of losing whumpee, they remain whumpee’s only source of comfort until help can arrive.

Whumpees with pneumonia. Whumpees bedbound, wheezing, drifting in and out of consciousness because they're so exhausted, having to be propped up every so often by Caretaker when they inevitably fall asleep and sink downwards. The fevers that grip them through the night, that sap them of so much energy that even breathing becomes a Herculean labour.

When they cough, their chest hurts so badly, and they're delirious enough that they don't understand it's better for them to cough it up. Caretaker has to slide in behind them, one hand on their chest, the other on their back, rubbing and coaxing until the coughing becomes productive and Whumpee brings up a small amount of phlegm onto a tissue that Caretaker holds up for them.

"Good job, Whumpee." Caretaker whispers, brushing back the sweat-damp hair from their forehead. "You're doing so well."

All Whumpee can do is groan miserably, too tired to even cry.
