Holmes and I have been involved in many adventures which are unlikely, for a variety of reasons, to see the light of publication. Perhaps the most singular of these was the extraordinary case of the fiendish Norbury and the Giant Rat of Sumatra. In that instance, we received aid from a most unexpected source at a moment when our situation was indeed dire, and the terrifying rodent was expertly dispatched by a remarkable feline that had once been the property of the cruel stepfather of one of our fair saviours.

My friend Holmes has, in the past, described women as inscrutable and untrustworthy. I have not heard him do so of late.

Woo it's been a few months, my apologies, it's been such a nightmare for me, and I'm trying to get my FTH piece JUST RIGHT before I show it to the bidder, but I really wanted a break from that so I decided I would get my ass in gear and get a Pride piece done for this year!!

It's been awhile since I've drawn something Johnlock, but I knew I wanted to get y'all a pride piece of them for this year. Went through some of my old reference photos and found this one I liked, so slapped John and Sherlock on it :) Quite happy with how it turned out minus the background, but I'm never happy with those so I hope you guys will excuse that, hee hee.

I love all the archiving and list making work that you do! I feel so lucky to share a fandom with you 😊. I was wondering - with all the work on the lists do you actually get much time to read fic? I would love to know a bit about your fic reading - do you return to favourites over and over or are you always reading new things? Do you have any favourite tropes/types of fic that you're especially keen to see requests about?

I've been trying to answer this one for awhile because it's interesting and I think lets a bit of insight into how my brain works, LOL.

Firstly, thank you so much for your kind words!! I'm so happy you enjoy your time here and I only hope I continue to be a place where y'all come to just vibe! :) I make this blog mostly for me, and it pleases me so that it continues to be a happy place for y'all too :)

Next, let's answer your questions one by one because they all interest me so and I don't want to miss any of them:

with all the work on the lists do you actually get much time to read fic?

Yes! I actually do a bulk of my reading on the bus to and from work, and at night to fall asleep. Because I have SUCH a backlog of stories bookmarked and already filed (I've been doing this for over 5 years now so you can imagine how much work went into the initial filing), it's just a matter of knowing what I tagged fics as on my offline lists and plopping them into my lists.

I would love to know a bit about your fic reading - do you return to favourites over and over or are you always reading new things?

So these days, unlike the past, every single fic I read, regardless of fandom, I actually keep track of the tags on my Notes App as I'm reading them, so it's tough for me to *truly* enjoy a new fic because every new fic I read is literally work for me. It's become second nature to just file them, because of how much work it was for me to go back and re-read over (at the time, years ago) 600 fics so I could tag all my bookmarks properly on my offline list. While kind of tedious, it saves a lot of work in the end. THEN I tend to RE-READ the story again if it's a new one so I can fully enjoy it without interrupting myself.

I'm ashamed to say that nowadays, also, I go back to a LOT of my old favourites, and it's been a few years since I've stuck solely in the Sherlock fandom (which is why I don't have a lot of newer fic lists for BBCS). I've been fandom hopping for about 2 years now, and when I get into a new fandom, I tend to binge everything in the ship tag of that fandom that pleases me (right now it's Disco Elysium). Then save all the fics into iBooks and reread them over and over if I really REALLY loved the story. Some stories just... MOVE you in ways that make your heart sing, you know? I also highlight lines or sections in those stories that I loved to bits so I can find them again. Right now I'm on a re-reading binge of various stories I KNOW I loved because I like falling asleep to them, and then filing them to a "Favourites" collection in my iBooks. For some reason I can't seem to get back into the Sherlock stories, I don't know. I do try every few weeks, just reading something new, but it never goes beyond one or two new stories then having a MONSTROUS urge to read a random ship I hadn't read in months. It's SO bizarre.

Do you have any favourite tropes/types of fic that you're especially keen to see requests about?

Actually, now that you mention it, I've been REALLY into crossover AUs or just Alternate universes. My fave tropes are pining and jealousy fics, bedsharing, and "for a case"/fake couple type stories.

Ooo. Hmm. I think the things I'm actually keen about are more Sherlock AUs of the other fandoms I'm in right now??? Like I'd love to see a Sherlock AU of Detroit: Become Human, Disco Elysium, or Loki! And definitely have wanted a Skyrim or Assassin's Creed AU for Sherlock too. I just LOVE those kinds of stories where it's not a crossover but a fusion instead and all of those worlds are just ripe for a Sherlock AU. I like stories like that. One of my fave AU stories ever is Perdition's Flames which is basically Star Trek: Into Darkness, with Sherlock as Khan. It's BRILLIANT. So yeah, I love stuff like that!

Sherlock fandom.

Utter Madness

John has left him. Not left, left. Sherlock can’t even consider what that will entail. A life without John is unthinkable, unbearable, preposterous, appalling, devastating, et cetera, and so on.

No, John needs fresh air. Again.

“It could have been worse,” Sherlock calls after him when he storms out of the flat, coughing loudly.

John doesn’t need air to clear his mind, to walk off his fury, but to breathe in less infested air than 221B can offer at the moment.

Sherlock had obviously been prepared for the outcome of the experiment and was wearing his gas mask. It had been John’s once, and it still smelled a bit of its former owner, which had distracted him from the other thing he was supposed to do. The experiment was fascinating, and Sherlock failed to warn John before he came into the kitchen after his morning shower, hence the hasty retreat to the street.

He sees John pacing in front of Speedy’s when he opens the windows to get the foul stench out of the flat. His hands are fisted in his hair, and he looks a bit like that mad professor from a film he had bullied Sherlock into watching. Something about going back in time with a Mandalorian car.

Carefully, Sherlock removes his mask and leans out of the window.

“You know that the London air is quite polluted too,” he remarks.

“Too early, Sherlock!” John hisses.

“Oh,” he says and goes to open the kitchen window as well.

The stench is fading rapidly, a fact Sherlock had calculated. He heeded his promise to John regarding no more foul-smelling experiments in the flat. Well, the long-lasting ones. Sherlock had meant to warn John, he really had.

“You are insane, and I am utterly mad to still live here,” John’s grumpy voice informs him from the doorway.

A sudden pain in his chest, makes Sherlock wince. He’s quite certain his face is even paler than normal. His hand reaches for the kitchen table to steady himself.

“Deep breaths like John taught you.”

“Hey, hey. What’s wrong?”

John’s worried voice draws him back up to the surface. Firm hands are cupping his face and those beautiful blue eyes are scanning him for any injuries or discomforts.

“I…I just...I thought you meant…”

John sighs and leans in to place a warm kiss to his forehead.

“My darling, Sherlock. How many times do I need to reassure you? I’ll gladly do it, but this,” he waves a hand to indicate the test tubes on the table, “will never be a reason for me to move out.”

Relief washes over him and he buries his face in the crook of John’s neck to breathe in the intoxicating scent of him.

“What we are doing, what we are, it’s utter madness,” John begins. “But I wouldn’t have it any other way, do you understand?”

Sherlock hums in agreement but John is in one of his relentless moods and needs him to vocalise his understanding.

He withdraws and looks seriously at John. His right hand cradles John’s face and his voice is sincere when he recites his vows.

“Us against the rest of the world. Forever and always. I will love you until the end of time, John Hamish Watson-Holmes.”

As usual, John gets emotional when he hears those words, so Sherlock pulls him close, perhaps a bit too fiercely, but no protests are forthcoming. Instead, John melts in his arms, whispering love declarations and promises of his own.

“I will always love you, sweetheart, and I will never leave you. This is forever. I can’t live without you. You are my world, my heart.”

He sniffs, not able to prevent the tears in his eyes to well over.

“Warn me next time, yeah,” John murmurs while he wipes away Sherlock’s tears.

“I intended to,” he tells him.

“I believe you, love. You got too engrossed again, didn’t you.”

“I did. Besides, the mask smelled of you,” he admits and blushes.

“Aww, you adorable man,” John beams and kisses his lips softly.

Sherlock scoffs and rolls his eyes but it’s all in vain. They both know it’s the truth.

It could certainly be worse; Sherlock thinks and pulls John in for a proper snog.
