The only possible reason I can think of as to why so many people who’ve already watched the episode have so many questions is bc we’re gonna see Eddie have some kinda realization in tonight’s episode. Nothing verbally will be said but we will all know by the look on his face. And that would definitely arise questions for all of us during the hiatus.
honestly, a lot of the "buck picked the wrong guy"/"buck misunderstood the assignment"/etc takes are kind of rubbing me the wrong way. there is no "wrong guy" or "misunderstood assignment" about buck's first queer experience.
eddie should not have been the first guy buck was ever with. buck being with other guys before eddie (if the show ever goes there with buddie) doesn't diminish their relationship.
"buck got it wrong again! he's still on the hamster wheel!" no he isn't. this is entirely new ground. please toss out any preconceived notions you've been hanging onto since like season 2.
the idea that abc may have just accidentally spoiled the 911 season arc by putting ryan in what is a clearly all-queer-characters-of-911 line-up of actors for a celebrity family feud episode is so fucking funny that i want it to be true so badly it hurts
Guys im literally shaking like I know buck just kissed a man but that boy is in financial ruin.
This tweet wanted to know what the papers were
So I looked at it and it reminded me what I did in my highschool finance class... And omg...
This is what Buck is looking over:
That fully shown paper looks like a check register:
(Which is used to keep track of the transactions and deposits you make.... From what I remember)
Anyways the next paper on top that folded looks like a bank statement
And the last one on the bottom looks like the reconciliation report I had to do in my class, although when I searched more online they didn't look like this one:
And yes, it's smart to reconcile every month/every paycheck, but to me, they wouldn't show this if his finances weren't going to come up later.
And Buck's looking at it like this(?) (and yes he did just hurt his bestie and I might also just be looking into it too much)
Which makes me think he's having issues with his money, so what storyline could be brought from this?
Eddie knows that he loves Buck but Eddie doesn't realize he's queer. Eddie had to grow up fast, got married early and never had the chance to explore or even consider his sexuality. He's always tried to force the feelings he thought he should have so he's alway been uncomfortable in his relationships. He's never gotten to start from a foundation of friendship and trust. He's never been with someone who makes him happy.
Buck knows he's queer but he doesn't realize that he's in love with Eddie. Buck never been taken care of him or put first in a relationship. He's always had to chase affection and settle for what he gets so he thinks love means putting in hard work. He doesn't know that love can feel safe and secure. He doesn't know that real love feels like home.
So, Eddie and Buck both know that they love each other but they don't understand that they are In Love with each other.
A week ago I read this fic that involved the book Taylor wrote get found out by the entire 118, then that got me thinking about if someone really obsessed over that book, like a stalker and now 7x05's title is "you don't know me" I'm clowning but I'm also saying I need outsider pov fic of someone just obsessively in love with the 118.
Here's the fic:
hammersmiths: Into Thirty Separate Parts
And also another one I just found about Taylors book involving Eddie and involving incredibly chaotic and hilarious circumstances
BTW predictability isn't a bad thing in writing. If you set up your characters in a certain way, and reinforce many times through various writing techniques that a character's storyline should go in a very specific direction, then it's not a bad thing to have the predictable thing actually happen. That's called GOOD writing. That's called giving your audience a satisfactory payoff.
911 specificly:
If Eddie experiencing cyclical comp-het, or constantly saying that dating women feels like a "performance" and that he wishes he could be "normal" sounds like a "predictable" set up for a queer realization arc, then it's normal to expect one at some point. It would be a natural next-step in his arc.
If the constant hints at Buck being "not straight", crushing on boys, being receptive to the possibility of dating boys, not shutting down people who question his sexuality, feels like it would be "predictable" for Buck to come out as bi (or otherwise specified queer) at some point then it's not a bad thing to just do it!
The audience doesn't need to be "surprised" and writers don't have to come up with absurd plot twists in order to be seen as ground-breaking or compelling.
Stories reaching their natural conclusions/next steps IS compelling all on its own. Two men discovering their sexualities later in life and having the courage to break all stereotypes and go for what they want IS compelling.
if buck suddenly becomes a Grown Up this season and starts taking accountability....if buck has to examine his relationships more closely.....if buck examines his relationship with eddie.....if buck doing this forces eddie to examine their relationship as well....if eddie resents buck for forcing change upon them....if they are forced to confront things and make decisions about how they fit into each other's lives.....just....if.....
I see people wondering how everything is going to fit into s7, like the cruise emergency, madney wedding, henren baby.... But I feel like all of this could be spaced out evenly even with a shortened season (and it also seems obvious we will be getting a story with a shift between the Buckley-Diaz dynamics in the early episodes)
Like when I rewatch the older seasons MORE was done! And we didn't spend 4 episodes primarily focused on a SINGLE arc with over encumbersome emergencies. (s5 and s6 pacing will always get to me) and I feel like season 3 is the best example of this, I mean they had the tsunami arc, lawsuit, henren trying for a baby then deciding to foster, Eddie's fighting ring, ATHENA BEGINS, Hens ambulance accident which helped shift henren to a healthier place, Maddie getting over what happened with Doug, starting Micheal cancer storyline, plenty of soft scenes between Chimney and Maddie, and comedic things spread throughout the FIRST HALF of the season. All of this was in 10 episodes, whose to say this can't happen again with s7? Because I feel like we lost the plot a little bit on balancing character storylines with each other and with emergencies.
Plus, we can parallel the new stories we'll get, like 911 has done before with storylines (also something s5 and s6 lacked imo) not only paralleling more emergencies to character storylines but characters to characters, keeping a theme for storylines different characters have in an episode! And maybe I wasn't paying attention and they did this in the newer seasons, it just wasn't as impactful. And we desperately need more narration.
Just think if we have a parenting storyline. Hen and Karen relearning what it's like to take care of a baby again, Buck realizing he has a much more parental role with Christopher (I really think s7 is leading up to that), a segment that really talks about Athena having an empty nest (and please just explain that Harry went to live with Michael because of his trauma in LA it makes sense), honestly Maddie and Chimney would probably have a soft family scene at the beginning/end.
Or there's an episode about Maddie and Chimney finally getting married, and it goes over how Bobby and Athena got married fast, Hen and Karen sorta having the most experienced out of everyone, and the soul searching in sure buck and Eddie will be doing.
