TONGUE HEALTH AND ORAL HYGIENE
Tumblr media
Just like your tongue speaks a lot of your personality through the words you say, it speaks a lot about your oral health too! Maintaining a good oral health is an essential component of your overall health development. Let us see today what it tells us!
1) Bad Breath: The wastes from bacteria in the mouth, the decay of food particles and poor oral hygiene leads to the odor. To eliminate the bad breath, remove bacteria from the back of your tongue with a soft bristle brush.
2) Red and Swollen Tongue: If a red tongue is accompanied with a sore throat and high fever, it is best that you visit a doctor. These symptoms are usually of scarlet fever or even vitamin deficiency. Visiting a dentist or a doctor could prove helpful in treating these symptoms.
3) Ridges on tongue: Some tongues have ridges or indentations and is nothing to worry about as they are result of how your teeth press against your tongue. However, they can also be symptoms of fissured tongue. This is something that you are born with and it鈥檚 nothing to be worried about.
4) Striped Tongue: If your tongue appears to have strips it could be the result of your immune system fighting off cells in your mouth. If this is the case, you can also experience dry mouth. This could turn into a serious condition if ignored and could also point to some gum diseases or breakdown. Consult a dentist as soon as possible and consider taking extra care of your oral hygiene.
5) White Patches: This is not necessarily an indication of bad oral health, but it can be a result of overgrowth of yeast in the mouth. Consider increasing brushing and using mouthwash.
6) Coated white tongue: Again, it is nothing to wear worry about as it is often a result of dehydration. It could also be because of overgrowth of candida. Use a good mouthwash at least twice a day!
Tongues tell a lot about your oral hygiene! Get your mouth checked today and see if you need any treatment of enhancement of oral hygiene. Book an appointment with 32 Smiles today!

5 FUNDAMENTALS FOR HEALTHY GUMS!
Tumblr media
While focusing on maintaining a good oral hygiene, we mainly focus on our teeth structure and forget the gums! Having bright white teeth doesn鈥檛 necessarily mean the person has good and strong gums. In fact, gums are a very crucial part for having good teeth. These are basically the roots of your teeth. Gums are the lining of soft tissues which surround the teeth and seal around them. So if you have damaged gums, there is no point in treating just the teeth, treatment has to be done from the foundation
Today let us look at some of the gum heath basics:
聽 1) What to look out for?
a) Blood: Have you noticed small droplets of blood in your mouth while brushing or cleaning them? It can be either because you are brushing too hard, but it can also indicate the building up of plaque or tarter. Consider seeing a dentist if the bleeding increases or doesn鈥檛 stop
b) Color: Healthy gums usually have a color ranging from medium pink to brown. Dark red gums are a sign of some underlying issue. Consult a dentist immediately for this c) Recession: Have you noticed the gum pulling out or exposing a tooth? This is called gum recession. This is in majority caused by thick deposition of tarter on gums. Unfortunately, there is no going back from this. It can also result in increasing the sensitivity of teeth. d) Bad Breath: There can be various causes of bad breath, and poor oral health is one of them. It can be symptoms of gingivitis, gum disease, tonsils, etc. You can try upgrading to a better mouthwash and still if the bad breath continues, go see a dentist immediately!聽
聽 2) What to do about it?
a) Paying close attention: If something doesn鈥檛 feel right, it usually isn鈥檛. Pay close attention to your gums, if you see any of the above basic gum issues signs, its time you see a doctor!
b) Change your habits: If you brush your teeth twice daily and still see some plaque deposits, consider thoroughly cleaning your teeth after lunch or dinner too! You can also start using mouthwash and floss if you aren鈥檛 using them already!
c) Regular checkup: You can schedule monthly visits to a dentist to get a regular check up done. Like they say, prevention is always better than cure. It is always better to see a dentist and keep your oral health under check!
