the day was warm, the sun shining down with minimal clouds in the sky. honestly, this was more than you could have hoped for when planning out today’s date. ever since sonic asked you out, you have been eagerly waiting for the first date.

however, after two weeks went by with no mention of a date, you decided to take measures into your own hand. 

and now, here you were. 

laying underneath a big umbrella, sun glasses on, you find yourself trying to relax. in any other circumstance, you would happily be in the water, splashing about. but today was different. when you had picked sonic up today. his enthusiasm was lacking. which had came as a surprise to you. 

sonic was always enthusiastic and open to affection. that was one of the reasons why you found yourself crushing on him. hard. 

so that’s why you were so confused when sonic barely made any effort to keep the conversation going. you thought he was just tired and that he’d perk up once you got to the beach, but he hasn’t. and now you were confused and almost hurt. you really thought sonic would enjoy this, had really put effort into planning a date you’d both enjoy. 

maybe you were wrong. 

“hey, i’m going to get some ice cream. are you wanting anything?” you asked, looking over to where sonic is sprawled out on his back. sonic just waved his hand and you didn’t hang around to see if he’ll say anything. 

making your way towards where you had seen the ice cream shack, you just couldn’t help feeling dejected. you thought the two of you were a good couple, that you suited one another. but maybe you were just getting ahead of yourself? ah, you just didn’t want to think about it anymore. 

“good afternoon, welcome to icey’s shack. what can i get you?” the deep voice broke you out of your thoughts. glancing up, you come face to face with someone who resembles sonic. though, the main difference was that this person was coloured black and red instead the familiar blue. 

you faltered, hands coming out to rest on the counted of the shack. “oh, uhm, can you just give me a moment, please?” you studied the worker in front of you, taking note of the name badge pinned on their apron. shadow, it read. 

that was a very fitting name, you thought. it… was interesting, made you intrigued.
